  • position 0 completely turns off the PZD.

The most favorable place for installing KamAZ PZD is the front cross member of the frame, where more efficient operation of this device is ensured, the essence of which is the supply of fuel from the tank from the fuel pump of the heater. The incoming combustible mixture is directed through the open solenoid valve towards the nozzle. Then a certain amount of fuel is injected into the internal burner of the heat exchanger of the preheater.

As the fuel spreads, it mixes with the air flows emanating from the fan. The fuel mixture begins to ignite and burn, which heats up the coolant. The more combustion products that enter the oil crankcase, the higher the oil temperature.

Fuel accumulates in the heater tank, the amount of which increases depending on engine speed. If fuel does not flow from the tank, its supply can be activated manually - to do this, you need to use the fuel priming pump. According to safety regulations, regular monitoring of the condition of the fuel supply system is necessary to avoid leaks of the combustible mixture and coolant. So, in this case, attention is paid to the tightness of pipes, taps and other components.

Operation of the pre-heater on KamAZ is possible in several modes depending on the boiler temperature. For example, if it increases to 85 degrees, the PZhD switches to the blowing mode. Thus, the device can be turned on again only after it is completely turned off when it reaches 85 degrees.

How to work with PZD correctly

The presence of a characteristic hum during the operation of the diesel engine indicates that the process of fuel combustion continues, and exhaust gases exit through the exhaust system. If the system is working properly, there should be no smoke or open flames. If there are technical problems with the operation of the fuel rail system, the first step is to adjust the fuel consumption using the pressure reducing valve. Turning the valve to the left increases the fuel supply, and turning it to the right decreases it. Thus, the fuel supply system is debugged taking into account temperature changes. Correct settings will ensure uninterrupted heating and significantly reduce refueling costs.

Below is a detailed principle of working with KamAZ PZD, consisting of several stages.

  1. The PZD turns on when the battery switch is activated. To do this, the operator activates the PZD switch button
  2. To fill the system with fuel, the driver opens the valve on the fuel tank
  3. After setting the knob to position III, the heating system is activated, the efficiency of which is adjusted depending on the ambient temperature
  4. The handle is moved to the reverse position I until a characteristic sound appears, which indicates ignition of the fuel
  5. Switching the PZhD into automatic continuous heating mode with the specified parameters.

Seasonal maintenance of the preheater (service C) in the fall:

Secure the pump unit, heat exchanger, pipes, and preheater outlet pipe.

The tightening torque of the pump unit mounting bolts is 44-53 Nm (4.5-5.4 kgf-m);

The tightening torque of the heat exchanger mounting bolts is 44-53 Nm (4.5-5.4 kgf-m);

The tightening torque of the M10 bolts of the pipe is 44-53 Nm (4.5-5.4 kgf-m); exhaust pipe bolts - 15-25 Nm (1.5-2.5 kgf-m).

Wash the channels and filters of the solenoid valve, the heater fuel tank tap, the preheater nozzle, clean the electrodes of the preheater spark plugs, the combustion chamber and the heat exchanger flue, check the operation of the preheater, and eliminate malfunctions (in the fall).

Before washing, disassemble the heat exchanger and remove carbon deposits.

Wash the solenoid valve filters in kerosene, the injector in acetone, and the remaining parts in diesel fuel.

Normal operation of the preheater is determined by the uniform hum of combustion in the heat exchanger and the release of exhaust gases without smoke or open flame.

If necessary, adjust the fuel flow using the fuel pump pressure reducing valve by doing the following: unscrew the cap nut on the fuel pump; loosen the locknut of the adjusting screw; By turning the adjusting screw to the right (the fuel supply increases) or to the left (the fuel supply decreases), adjust the heater operating mode.

After completing the adjustment, lock the adjusting screw with the locknut and screw on the cap nut.

To ensure normal operation of the heater, adjust the fuel supply when the ambient temperature is below zero.

After washing the car or fording in the cold season, remove water that has entered the air tract of the fan by turning on the pump unit for 3-4 minutes (put the switch to position III, having first disconnected the wire going to the electric fuel heater)

Installation and maintenance of PZD

It is best to install the pre-heater on KamAZ vehicles at a specialized workshop (service station) equipped with all the necessary equipment. Technical inspection of equipment is carried out before the onset of the winter season.

Before starting operation, it is extremely important to ensure the proper condition of the PZD components. This requires timely maintenance, and before leaving, it is recommended to check the system for functionality. To do this, you need to pay attention to the following components of the fuel rail and fuel system of the car:

  1. Checking the level of anti-freeze fluid in the engine cooling system
  2. Checking connecting nodes for leaks
  3. Electric motor diagnostics, as well as checking for fuel leaks and open flames
  4. Test run of the PZD for 20 seconds
  5. When washing the car, water may enter the air fan. You can remove it using a pump unit, to turn it on you need to switch the pump to position III and wait two to three minutes.

PZD errors and their designations
