In areas such as the construction of objects for various purposes, geological or engineering work, it is impossible to cope without drilling and crane machines. They are presented in numerous versions and have a wide range of characteristics. The equipment can be combined with various drilling equipment, which can significantly expand their scope of application.
Advantages and main types of mounted drilling rigs
The main advantage of mounted drilling equipment is the ability to quickly install it on the base chassis and dismantle it if necessary, which ensures the versatility of using the special equipment on which it is installed, ensuring its use for solving a wide variety of tasks. These installations are characterized by relatively low cost, low weight and dimensions, simplicity and efficiency in operation.
One of the typical representatives of special equipment on which various types of drilling rigs can be installed is the MTZ-82 “Belarus” wheeled tractor produced by the Minsk Tractor Plant. It is distinguished by high reliability, unpretentiousness and cost-effectiveness in operation, as well as special versatility in the ability to use attachments for a wide variety of functional purposes, including carrying out various types of drilling operations.
The drive of the main units of the drilling rig is carried out from the main tractor engine through a special power take-off box and an additional cardan shaft. For stability and unloading of the base chassis during drilling, the rig is equipped with additional supports with hydraulic jacks.
According to its purpose, design features and functionality, a mounted drilling rig based on MTZ 82 can be of three main types:
- Pit drills.
- Drilling and crane machines.
- Installations for drilling wells for various purposes.
Next, we will consider the features of using various types of mounted drilling equipment for MTZ-82 and the technical characteristics of some individual models.

Purpose and features of pit drills
Pit drills based on MTZ 82 are designed for drilling shallow holes in the ground for the installation of columnar foundations, installation of fence posts, light poles, holes for planting trees, etc. Their characteristic features include:
- small drilling depth, usually equal to the length of the auger drill;
- the use of an auger drilling method using bladed drills of a certain length and diameter;
- the use of additional equipment for flushing or purging during drilling is not required.
Some models of hole drills have auger drills of a telescopic design or the ability to increase their length using additional extensions, which allows you to drill deeper holes.
The NBU-1300 hole drill allows for drilling holes up to 1.3 meters deep with an auger drill with a diameter of up to 360 mm with a mechanical rotator drive.
The BM-205V hole drill with a hydraulic rotator drive is used for auger drilling of wells up to 3 m deep and with a diameter of up to 80 cm.
Purpose and principle of operation of tractor-based hole drills
The drilling tractor is used for creating holes in the ground of various depths, installing piles, pillars or supports, as well as for loading and unloading operations. They are widely used in housing and communal services, for example, for planting trees.
Regardless of the size of the drill holes, their main purpose is:
- water supply: drinking or technical;
- sewerage;
- underground lines for pipelines (for example, oil pipelines);
- laying cables.
The principle of operation of such equipment is based on installed drilling equipment, which usually consists of: a mast, a rod, a rotating mechanism (or another, such as an impact mechanism), a drill and a hydraulic cylinder. The mechanism is transported in a horizontal position; during operation, it moves to a vertical position; stability is ensured by external hydraulic bases.
The drill rotates by transferring energy from the machine engine to the drill mechanism. The process of well formation occurs by repeating identical cycles: raising and lowering the drill. This helps lift the soil outward.
The crane mechanism is operated using a winch. Some models provide a cradle (for lifting people).
Purpose and features of drilling and crane machines
A drilling rig based on the MTZ 82 type of drilling and crane machine is used for auger drilling of shallow holes when carrying out various construction works, drilling wells under water, and can also perform various types of loading and unloading and repair and construction work. This is ensured by installing various additional devices (crane load hook, mounting cradle, excavator bucket) on the crane boom instead of the drilling tool drive.
The BKM-2MT installation provides auger drilling of holes up to 6 m deep, as well as water wells with a depth of up to 20 m and a diameter of up to 300 mm through the use of auger drill extensions.
The BUER 1030 drilling machine is used for auger drilling of wells up to 4 m deep and with a diameter of up to 600 mm.
Advantages of drilling tractors on crawler chassis
The main advantage of tracked hole drilling tractors is the ability to be used in open and densely populated areas. Thanks to their good maneuverability, they can be used in places with limited space.
High cross-country ability allows drilling in sand quarries and mountainous terrain. When working on slopes, machines cannot tip over due to the lower center of gravity.
Another important advantage is high productivity. The advantages of a powerful engine of crawler drilling tractors are the ability to drill wells with a diameter of up to several meters and a depth of up to 150 m, vertical (with a certain angle of inclination) and horizontal drilling can be performed.
Convenient operator position allows for high productivity work. In some modern models, remote control is possible when performing work in hazardous areas.
