Review of the Husqvarna 135 chainsaw. Technical characteristics. Features of use and safety precautions

Description

The Husqvarna 135 chainsaw is a basic model that is lightweight and very convenient for use at home for cutting wood, collecting firewood, performing garden work such as trimming branches and branches, working with wood in construction, and more.

Chainsaw Husqvarna 135

The Husqvarna 135 chainsaw is the latest generation of saws that minimizes harmful emissions. The tool is equipped with a two-stroke gasoline engine with a power of 1500 W. The engine cylinder capacity is 40.9 cc. The engine is designed using X-Tord technology, which ensures economical consumption of the gasoline-oil mixture and reduces the amount of harmful emissions.

The difference between the Husqvarna 135 chainsaw and the Husqvarna 140 model is as follows:

  • the 135th saw has a quick-release mount for the air filter;
  • power of the 140th model - 1600 W, 135th - 1500 W;
  • Another difference is the price; the 140th Husqvarna chainsaw costs more than the 135th.

Both chainsaws fall into the “standard” or “regular saws” category, as stated by the manufacturer itself. They are perfect for household use and ordinary woodworking tasks; they have similar technical characteristics, namely the same engine size and tire length. The fuel consumption of the 140th model is 930 ml of fuel per hour, while the 135th consumes 1.1 l/hour.

Preparatory stages, launch

First of all, the operator of a Husqvarna 135 chainsaw must correctly prepare a fuel mixture of 92 gasoline and original Husqvarna oil for two-stroke engines in a ratio of 50/1 (0.1 liter of oil is taken per 1 liter of fuel).

We offer the following algorithm of actions that allows you to properly prepare gas-powered tools for work:

  • chain saw assembly;
  • headset installation;
  • tensioning the chain mechanism;
  • refueling a chainsaw;
  • filling chain oil (original Husqvarna or ER 90 transmission);
  • starting the unit;
  • checking the operation of the saw at idle speed (carburetor adjustment may be necessary);
  • checking the brake operation;
  • checking the lubrication supply.

Basic equipment

Basic equipment of the Husqvarna chainsaw:

  • packaging - cardboard box;
  • instruction manual with warranty card;
  • hand brake (located on the right hand side);
  • tool start and stop switch;
  • carburetor adjustment screws;
  • muffler;
  • saw chain, sprocket, tire blade;
  • rear handle, with right hand protection;
  • clutch cover (available on 135 and 135e models);
  • saw blade protection;
  • universal key for assembly.

A complete overview of the components and working parts of the chainsaw is given in the instructions for the tool.

The country of assembly and production, according to the manual of the Husqvarna 135 model, is Sweden. Depending on the production series, there may be chainsaws assembled at the Husqvarna factory in the USA or China. To ensure the authenticity of the instrument, we recommend checking the serial numbers of the products using the search database on the website of the official manufacturer.

Owner reviews

Oleg, 33 years old

The saw is excellent, it fully pays for its cost and even more. Thanks to its light weight, it is comfortable at heights, and the quality is excellent. When I bought it (2.5 years ago) I was choosing between the 135 and 140 models - I looked for the differences for a long time, but I couldn’t find it, I’m happy with the purchase.

Advantages: Husqvarna is powerful, light, durable, excellent assembly.

Alexander, 39 years old

I bought the 135th Husqvarna six months ago. It was working great, running in as expected, but suddenly it stopped. The service center refused to repair it (the piston was jammed), they wrote that I was using the wrong oil (I used Tilev’s, the best) and gasoline (I used the best, 95!). That's how I ended up with this saw - what to do with it now!? It costs a lot of money.

Advantages: Husqvarna sawed well.

Disadvantages: it broke down quickly, they refused service, it’s also impossible to change it, complete garbage.

Alexey, 42 years old

I bought a dacha, and a Husqvarna saw to go with it. I decided to go with the 135 model; it is one of the last and is also small and weighs a lot. The site was transformed: bushes and old trees were removed, a bathhouse was cut down, and the waste was used as firewood for it. The saw was useful both during clearing and during construction. When servicing, I strictly follow all the instructions in the instructions - I learned from bitter experience with the previous unit (“Bison” did not last long).

Advantages: excellent cut, compact, convenient, powerful, does not break.

  • assemble the chainsaw according to the instructions for the tool;
  • prepare the fuel mixture, if you plan to immediately start working with the saw, fill the mixture and start working according to the manual;
  • adjust the carburetor using the idle speed screw, remember that the carburetor is adjusted at the factory during assembly of the saw, the recommended number of revolutions at working speed is 9000 per minute;
  • check the condition of the muffler every time before starting work;
  • storage duration of the fuel mixture is 4 weeks;
  • Clean the air filter every 50 hours of operation;
  • The spark plug is replaced every 30 days.

Fuel and oil, lubricants for Husqvarna 135

Recommended type of oil for creating a fuel mixture: Husqvarna HP 2-stroke oil. The mixing ratio for the fuel mixture is 50:1. Type of gasoline for refueling chainsaws: AI-92, AI-95. Use genuine Husqvarna oils to lubricate the chain and bar. Lubrication frequency: The chain and bar must be lubricated constantly while the chainsaw is in working order and while it is being used.

According to technical standards, the fuel mixture is replaced after break-in, that is, after 5 hours of using the tool, and then as fuel is consumed. An oil change is also performed after break-in and subsequently every 40-50 hours of operation (approximately once every 90 days).

Duration of operation of the Husqvarna 135 chainsaw

The Husqvarna 135 chainsaw is designed for 30-40 minutes of operation with a full fuel tank. The rate of fuel consumption is not the same and depends on the operating mode, the number of engine revolutions, the load on the tool and the frequency of turning the engine on and off during the sawing process. During break-in, less fuel is consumed because the chainsaw is not working at full capacity. At the end of the run-in, consumption may increase.

We are all familiar with the legendary Stihl MS180 chainsaw, which for many years did not have a worthy competitor. And now it has happened, the Husqvarna company, which has lost its position in the household segment for the last decade, has finally released a model worthy of attention under the Husqvarna 135 label. Looking ahead, let’s say that this is indeed an excellent chainsaw. But let’s understand what exactly it is further.

About the manufacturer and scope.

The Swedish company Husqvarna has a long history, initially producing motorized bicycles, motorcycles and even sewing machines. In the second half of the last century, the company completely switched to the creation and promotion of motorized saws, where it achieved excellent results. At the moment, the company's line consists of many household and professional gasoline-powered tools and gardening equipment, without a doubt being one of the world leaders in its niche.

The Husqvarna chainsaw line includes many models of different classes, but in the household (amateur) class, not everything is so smooth. Several not entirely successful Husqvarna 140 models were produced, then Husqvarna 240, produced in factories in China, and for which there were many complaints. They were replaced by the Husqvarna 135 - a modified model of the latest generation, assembled in the USA.

The scope of application includes both light sawing at home and long-term active work:

  • Firewood harvesting
  • Felling small and medium trees
  • Garden care
  • Repair and construction

Construction and design features of Husqvarna 135.

The basic design is the most typical for modern saws: motor, handles, front brake, chain and bar. However, in this chainsaw Husqvarna took into account all the shortcomings of previous models and the wishes of consumers. Many high-quality innovative components were introduced into the 135:

  • Economical X-Torq engine
  • New Air Injection cleaning system
  • Quick release top cover and air filter
  • SmartStart easy start system
  • Ergonomic rubberized rear handle
  • Spring multi-point anti-vibration system LowVib
  • Combined throttle control

Agree, quite a lot, and all this was done very high quality and to the point, as shown in the illustrations below.

Technical characteristics of Husqvarna 135.

Idle speed, rpm2900

Perhaps we need to make a small digression here. The engine power according to the passport is 2 hp. with a volume of 40.9 cubes, hence the greater weight of the chainsaw (for the Shtil MC180 it is less than 32 cubes with the same power), i.e. logically there should be more power. The fact is that all new Husqvarna models are equipped with an economical X-Torg engine and an environmentally friendly exhaust system. This dampens the power a little, but in fact there is more of it and that’s a plus.

Warranty and equipment Husqvarna 135.

It's nice to know that from January 1, 2022, Husqvarna provides a 24-month warranty on its chainsaws, instead of 12. There is only one condition - the household class will be used no more than 150 hours per year. This is an excellent competitive advantage, and for the buyer a clear confirmation of the high quality of the new line, which includes the 135.

The starting package looks normal and, in addition to the mechanism itself, includes:

  • Chain and bar
  • Universal key
  • Protective case
  • Instructions and warranty card

During the purchase, the seller is obliged to start the chainsaw and check the functionality of all components. Please note that during operation it is better to use original Husqvarna two-stroke oil and use fresh fuel, otherwise there may be a failure in the event of a warranty claim. We also note that dealers often launch promotions for free pre-season service or other gifts with purchase, stay tuned for news from the company.

Advantages and disadvantages of Husqvarna 135.

If you have carefully read everything that has already been presented in this article on the Husqvarna 135, you will probably say that this is an almost ideal chainsaw of its class with a lot of positive qualities and no flaws. In general, this is exactly how it is, but we have identified some shortcomings and grouped the advantages.

Powerful and economical X - Torq , producing more torque, consuming less fuel and producing less gas emissions.

Excellent ergonomics and balancing of the Husqvarna 135 are simply impressive, everything is done here for easy use: rubberized handle, quick-release cover, clear control panel with throttle, easy SmartStart.

A high-quality saw set is typical for a premium manufacturer, and it also comes with a long 16-inch bar.

An effective centrifugal cleaning system under the brand name Air Injection, as well as a high-quality air filter, perfectly protect the system from contamination.

The anti-vibration system is spring-loaded and does a good job of absorbing the “shaking” that is harmful to the user, reducing fatigue when sawing.

The 2-year warranty is a good addition, just keep in mind that for the 135th model it is valid for no more than 150 hours of operation per year.

Low max speed (9000 rpm), which is much lower than that of direct competitors. This directly affects the sawing speed, which will be lower.

problems with oil supply to the saw set; it consists of a small leak of oil from the system, and this is a constant puddle under the saw and irrational consumption.

An unsatisfactory service base is common for Husqvarna, and it can be difficult to find an official dealer in the periphery. In addition, buyers often note the poor attitude and incompetence of service technicians, but this depends on your luck.

Expensive spare parts and components will be an unpleasant surprise during non-warranty repairs - this is the downside of new technologies. Plus, original spare parts still need to be found; there are practically no analogues.

Repair and maintenance Huskavarna 135.

We have already pointed out some of the disadvantages of servicing Husqvarna chainsaws; I would like to go over this topic in more detail, in particular about the 135th saw. The main feature is the American assembly of the saw and the comparative novelty of this model, which explains the high cost of spare parts. The situation is complicated by the lack of any inexpensive substitutes. In the event of a breakdown, you will have to fork out money. Yes, some analogues are appearing, but when it will become widespread is a big question. In addition, in 2019 an updated line is being replaced, and on the counter you will see the name Husqvarna 135 MARK 2, which will be assembled in China and have some design changes. So let's see how this affects positive quality and service provision.

As for the repair and maintenance itself, it will not cause any difficulties for an experienced technician, and some things can be replaced yourself. Everything is arranged logically and clearly, like most chainsaws from other manufacturers. Based on requests to workshops and reviews from numerous users, several typical faults of the Husqvarna 135 have been identified:

  • Unstable engine idle speed
  • Chain oil supply system leaking
  • Capricious work on low-quality oil and fuel
  • Excessive vibration as a consequence of unstable speed.

The 135th is equipped with a fairly reliable carburetor manufactured by Zama, but, nevertheless, it is clear that the main problems are related to the speed; tuning will be required. Lubricant leaks on the chain are, on the one hand, a minor problem, but quite unpleasant. About half of new saws suffer from this, which is certainly a lot. Otherwise, the chainsaw performs quite well.

If you want to know more about this, follow the link: Repair and diagnostics of chainsaws

Conclusion.

The Husqvarna 135 is truly a worthy model - finally a chainsaw has appeared that can compete with the impeccable Shtil 180. This is a fairly new model and its reliability needs to be confirmed, but we can already say for sure that the saw has been modified and all the significant shortcomings of the previous generation have been corrected. I am glad that there are many innovations in the engine, cleaning system and ergonomics - the chainsaw is very comfortable.

Most of the shortcomings are related to service, but let's hope that this shortcoming will be corrected in the future. There are also negative reviews, there are few of them and no one is immune from a small number of defects. So this is an excellent saw for the home and garden and will last a long time, subject to careful use and regulated maintenance.

Don't forget about safety precautions and good work!

Advantages and disadvantages of the model

Reviews about the advantages of the Husqvarna 135 chainsaw:

  • easy chain replacement;
  • sufficient power for cutting medium-diameter logs;
  • very simple starting system, starts well even in the cold season;
  • truly effective vibration damping system;
  • light weight;
  • comfortable, non-slip handle;
  • economical gasoline consumption;
  • convenient to tension the chain;
  • easy replacement of spark plugs and air filter.

According to the owners, the disadvantages of Husqvarna 135 include the following:

  • expensive spare parts;
  • quickly loses efficiency when running on low-quality oils and fuels;
  • Relatively fast chain grinding.

Repair and service

The model is new and there are few spare parts on the market. However, it has been noted that the chainsaw is not prone to serious damage if it is used correctly. The internal structure is simple, so minor repairs or replacement of units can be done independently.

As a result of observations, the following problems were noticed:

  • It is difficult to adjust the carburetor.
  • Jumps in idle speed.
  • Unstable engine operation in case of poor quality fuel or oil.
  • Increased vibration when speed increases.
  • Spark plugs fail.
  • The “native” chain wears out quickly.
  • Oil leaks from the barrel if the saw is lying on its side.
  • Air enters the system when the fuel is completely consumed.
  • Constant oil leakage despite good assembly.

The model is equipped with a Zara carburetor, which has proven itself only on the good side. Nevertheless, problems constantly arise with it: either the engine stalls at idle, or during operation the speed jumps. It is not clear what this is connected with, but I regularly have to turn off the saw and adjust the carburetor. This is a massive problem for all chainsaws of this model, even new ones. Otherwise, no serious shortcomings were noticed. The saw does its job properly and does not break under increased loads.

Carburetor adjustment

The traction parameters and efficiency of the power unit depend on the correct settings of the fuel system. The work involves preliminary cleaning of the air intake and warming up the engine to operating temperature. The carburetor is adjusted in a given sequence by rotating the quantity and quality screws.

The factory settings are made according to average parameters, therefore, taking into account external factors, it needs to be adjusted. A properly tuned engine is characterized by good throttle response, stable speed in all modes, and the absence of increased smoke and detonation noise.

If the adjustment does not give the desired result, you should check the quality of the fuel, the absence of water condensation in the carburetor, the cleanliness of the jets, and the presence of the gap recommended in the instructions in the spark plug.

Headset

The list of removable cutting equipment includes a proprietary 14 or 16 inch guide bar and a wear-resistant Husqvarna H45 saw chain with a 3/8 inch pitch, driven from the drive sprocket crown. The saw clutch mechanism provides the chain with a smooth, forward and reverse transition to operating and idling modes.

When choosing a headset from another brand, you should take into account the engine power, pitch and number of links, and the configuration of the drive sprocket crown. The price of the kit, taking into account the quality and durability of operation, may vary significantly.

Lubrication and safety systems

The design of the saw provides for lubrication and cooling of the headset by supplying oil to the working area. Chain oil enters the pump inlet with a constant flow rate of 13 ml/min from a 250 ml reservoir located in the housing.

The lack of automatic dosing is compensated by the simple design of the pump and its almost trouble-free operation.

In the event of the saw being thrown back or a traumatic situation occurring, the movement of the chain is blocked by the inertial emergency stop mechanism.

The brake is activated by the movement of the protective barrier in the forward direction. Working wear of the chain is compensated by a tensioning mechanism with a convenient lateral location.

Owner reviews

It seems that advertisers overpraised the 135th model a little. The new instrument's exhaust noise is at the level of Chinese consumer goods, I had to urgently buy headphones. Starting the engine after 2-3 attempts, it holds speed well, but still gets very hot. Inconvenient access to the filling necks; the reliability of the tensioner does not inspire confidence. Stephen

After many years of using Husqvarna chainsaws and gas mowers, the level of confidence in the products of this manufacturer has increased significantly. Proper use and qualified maintenance, refusal of fuel and lubricant substitutes are the key to trouble-free operation of not only professional, but also household equipment. Vadim

A new chainsaw, Husqvarna 135, bought by a neighbor in 26-degree frost, started on the first try and in one go sawed an oak log in half, about 30 cm in diameter. These were the most convincing arguments in favor of choosing this model, so for the second week now I have been the owner. The saw is characterized by a comfortable grip, smooth start and chain movement. The brake switch is a little too tight for my liking, but it works instantly. The tank lasts for 35-40 minutes. This is not bad, but chain oil is quite expensive, and the pump drives too much. Fortunately, this problem has several non-standard solutions. Ivan Nikolaevich
