Review of the Husqvarna 236 chainsaw - technical specifications, carburetor adjustment, and owner reviews

The Husqvarna 236 chainsaw is a TOP model produced by the famous Swedish company Husqvarna. The history of this company began back in 1689, at that time it was famous for its weapons, which were produced for more than 280 years, and only in 1970 the brand retrained and began developing and producing garden tools, machinery, tools and equipment for construction.

Today, the Husqvarna brand owns several brands that have taken leading positions in terms of sales and popularity in the world market.

Chainsaw Husqvarna 236

Scope of application

Like its predecessor, the Husqvarna 236 is designed for occasional work in light conditions. It can cope perfectly with trimming branches in the garden or with the annual preparation of firewood for a barbecue or bathhouse. It is better not to use a chainsaw as a professional tool, because its resource is not designed for this, and accordingly, it will quickly use it up and require major repairs.

In order to increase the service life of the chainsaw, carefully read the instructions that the manufacturer supplies with the saws in any configuration. The operating instructions can be downloaded from our manual catalogue.

Also, the saw does not have enough power to solve tasks that professional models of Husqvarna chainsaws can handle. Professional saws include the following Husqvarna models: , 359, 365, 555.

The design of the saw, its weight and technical characteristics are not designed for commercial use, but many do not take this into account and believe that the saw should serve faithfully, indefinitely. Believe me, miracles do not happen; if you need to work 6-8 hours every day, then it is better to choose more powerful saws designed specifically for these purposes.

This model is popular among builders for cutting timber, boards, and bars. Due to its low weight, the chainsaw is used when carrying out work at heights, for example, when building roofs or trimming tree crowns.

The main characteristic of the Husqvarna 236 chainsaw is its power rating, which is average for this class. Average fuel consumption is 200 grams per kW. Weight with filled fluids and installed accessories (bar and chain) is 5.6 kg.

The Husqvarna 236 chainsaw develops maximum power at 9000 rpm.

The tool is equipped with an oil pump to supply lubricant to the saw chain, which automatically regulates the flow in proportion to the increase in crankshaft speed. This system allows not only to effectively lubricate the rubbing elements of the saw set, but also to save oil in idle mode.

Husqvarna oil pump

As standard, the Husqvarna chainsaw is equipped with a saw chain with a pitch of 3/8, a groove width of 1.3 mm and a length of 52 links. If necessary, you can replace the tire and drive sprocket, which will allow you to install a chain with the required number of links and chain pitch.

Try to use only Husqvarna branded oils, this will reduce the load on rubbing parts and increase their service life, which will ultimately save money.

Check the saw chain in a timely manner and, if necessary, sharpen it. This will reduce the load on the chainsaw engine and increase productivity.

Operational advantages of this model

First of all, it should be noted:

  • excellent quality of materials used and high precision processing of components;
  • stable traction characteristics of the standard engine;
  • ergonomic handle configuration and convenient location of controls.

Despite the budget cost, proprietary design developments were used in the design of the chainsaw.

  • The model is equipped with an effective Air Injection centrifugal air purification system.
  • X-Torq technology reduces fuel consumption by an average of 20% and with a parallel 60% purification of exhaust gases from toxic components.
  • The design of the saw takes advantage of the effective anti-vibration spring suspension of the LowVib type engine.
  • The absence of vibration on the body helps reduce fatigue and maintain the user’s full performance throughout the entire cycle of sawing work.

Technological features

Husqvarna strives to meet all existing environmental standards and for this reason equips its saws with modern two-stroke engines made using X-Torq technology. This is exactly the engine that is installed on Husqvarna 236 saws.

X-Torq

The essence of the system is that during operation the cylinder is purged with clean air, while on conventional engines the purging is performed with a new portion of the fuel mixture.

Husqvarna X-Torq technology

This solution allows you to reduce the amount of unburned fuel in the exhaust and make it more environmentally friendly and safer for humans and the environment.

The advantage of this technology is reduced fuel consumption. The disadvantages include a slight loss of power compared to saws of similar engine size.

Primer

Another design feature of the Husqvarna 236 is a manual fuel pump called a primer.

The pump is installed on the body of the chainsaw and is designed to facilitate starting after a long period of inactivity. In order to pump fuel into the main chamber of the carburetor, you just need to press the primer a couple of times, and then continue starting according to the instructions that are on the body of the chainsaw.

Combined control

Another design feature of the Husqvarna 236 is a combination lever with which you can control the position of the air damper and stop the engine.

The function is quite useful; according to the manufacturer, it will improve the stability of the chainsaw engine.

Air purification system

The Husqvarna 236 design uses a centrifugal cleaning system called Air Injection. It allows you to increase the interval between air filter maintenance, which has a positive effect on the cost of owning a chainsaw.

Competitors

Stihl MS 180
Husqvarna's eternal opponent in the sales race is Stihl. The 236 is opposed by a competitor, the MS 180, a very popular product that has its own audience. The German is lighter in weight than the Swede, and a little more powerful. But in terms of ergonomics, Husqvarna is the leader: manual fuel pumping, the centrifugal circulation system makes itself felt during long-term operation. It is noteworthy that the prices for competitors' products are approximately the same.

Pros and cons of using

Any chainsaw has both positive and negative aspects associated with its operation, maintenance and repair. Husqvarna 236 is no exception. According to real users of this saw, it cuts perfectly, but does not start very well.

Service center experts claim that the Husqvarna 236 is very capricious in maintenance and repair. This is especially true for the carburetor, the design of which is slightly different from that installed on previous Husqvarna models.

The 236 is equipped with a Zama carburetor with an accelerator pump, which, if stored incorrectly, quickly breaks down.

The Zama carburetor is installed on Husqvarna 236 chainsaws

The problem can be solved by replacing the o-ring, which is installed on the pump piston. Repair kits that contain accelerator pump rubber bands are quite rare on sale and for this reason you have to replace the carburetor completely, which greatly increases the cost of repairs.

The assembly of the Husqvarna model 236 chainsaw is of very high quality, the body parts fit well, there are minimal gaps between them, but the structure of the saw is very inconvenient. For example, in order to remove the carburetor, you need to unscrew several screws, remove the control lever and unscrew the rear handle.

If it is necessary to carry out diagnostics, repairs, or adjust the carburetor, it is better for owners of Husqvarna 236 to contact a service center. This model of saw is difficult to diagnose, especially when it comes to problems with the carburetor.

Power unit

The standard drive of the saw is a 38.2 cm3 gasoline engine that develops a power of 1.9 hp in operating mode.

Features of the power unit:

  • compactness;
  • reliable and easy starting at low temperatures;
  • simple and low-cost maintenance;
  • economical consumption of fuel and lubricants;
  • significant torque reserve, long service life between overhauls.

The design of the chainsaw provides for fuel supply through a built-in pump and combined control of the carburetor throttle. The fuel tank capacity of 0.3 liters is sufficient to operate the engine for 2.5-3 hours.

Adjusting the carburetor of the Husqvarna 236 chainsaw

The Husqvarna 236 carburetor differs from the carburetor of previous models only structurally. Its adjustment is carried out in the same way as the carburetor on Husqvarna 137 or 142 is adjusted.

In this article we will not describe in detail how to correctly adjust the quality and quantity of the fuel mixture in Husqvarna carburetors, because On our website there is a separate article on adjusting the carburetor of a Husqvarna chainsaw. In it we examined all the nuances in detail and it is perfect for setting up the carburetor of the 236 model saw.

Advantages

The high quality of Husqvarna products extends to the entire range of household and professional chainsaws.

Model 236 has proven itself excellent in all respects:

  • in the work of felling old trees and preparing firewood;
  • during the construction of wooden log houses;
  • in the installation of wooden elements of landscape design and pruning of trees.

Users give high ratings:

  • excellent performance for its power category;
  • features of convenient and safe control;
  • high-quality assembly;
  • interchangeability of standardized spare parts and consumables with similar branded models.

Chainsaw reliability

The 236th model of Husqvarna is considered quite reliable and, if used correctly, its use does not cause any trouble to its owners. In cases where the tool is used and stored incorrectly, the first thing that can fail is the carburetor.

Like all chainsaws equipped with two-stroke engines, the Husqvarna 236 is very sensitive to the purity of the air entering the cylinder. If the owner of the tool does not monitor the cleanliness of the air filter and does not change it in a timely manner, the CPG of the saw will fail much faster. This is a fairly serious problem, the solution to which is to carry out a major overhaul.

You can find out detailed information about the malfunctions of Husqvarna chainsaws, as well as how to eliminate them, from the Husqvarna Repair article, which is posted on our website. The article contains information on how to remove the cylinder, what to do if there is an oil leak or the Husqvarna 236 starts and stalls.

When customization is required

Modern “three-screw” carburetors of Carver chainsaws are practically not designed for manual adjustment at home. The screws are designed for factory settings, are securely secured against rotation during vibration by stable springs and do not change their position arbitrarily.

But the carburetor screws of the Carver chainsaw are accessible for adjustment through special holes, without removing the casing, using a regular screwdriver. This suggests that such models structurally require periodic adjustment of the carburetor.

READ Stihl 180 Saw Starts and Stalls

The reason for this cannot be stated from a technical point of view. Only versions available:

  1. The Carver Carver chainsaw is in an area of strong vibration, so the screws unscrew spontaneously.
  2. There is a rough spring installed which cannot secure the screw like other models.
  3. Periodic adjustment is necessary due to the technical characteristics of the carburetor and the internal combustion engine of the Carver chainsaw as a whole.

Intended use: Sawmill work

I bought my chainsaw more than 2 years ago. During the entire period of operation in a sawmill, I work at a sawmill, the 236th practically did not break down. I change the filter promptly and try to keep the saw clean. After every working day I clean it using a compressor. In my opinion, this is what allows it to work without breakdowns.

But there were still breakdowns. After a year of use I had to replace the starter cord, but I think it's a minor thing. Also had some starting problems, but ended after I replaced the fuel filter. In general, I have not heard that such chainsaws are difficult to start.

I advise you to use only high-quality Husqvarna oils, because I use them and am very pleased. Even to lubricate the chain, I use a special adhesive oil and have noticed that the tire and drive sprocket last much longer than my colleagues who save and fill in used oil from car engines.

I recommend it to everyone, the chainsaw is worth the money spent on it.

Analogs

A worthy alternative is a popular chainsaw of the same type in terms of engine power and cost - Bosch AKE 35-19 S, Hitachi CS33EB, Oleo-Mac 937, Makita UC4051A and other models from leading European and Asian manufacturers.

Domestic analogues are represented by more affordable saw brands - Zenit, Energomash and Granit. Budget models in terms of selling prices are identical in performance to their foreign counterparts, but are significantly inferior in quality of materials, operational reliability and service life.

About the manufacturer Husqvarna

Huksvarna is a Swiss company that is directly involved in the manufacture and production of tools and equipment designed for work both in the garden and in the construction industry. The products manufactured by this manufacturer include: lawn mowers, saws, specialized tools for cutting stone materials and others.

It is precisely due to the fact that the company takes the production process itself quite seriously , uses exclusively high-quality materials and modern innovations, that consumers fully trust it. In this article you can get acquainted with the best models of this world-famous manufacturer and find out why it is the leader in the electrical engineering market. So let's get started.

Working equipment

The 16-inch long tire is made of wear-resistant steel. Reducing the groove width to 0.05 mm eliminates the chain from falling off in 3/8-inch increments when cutting wood of larger diameters horizontally. The Husqvarna 235 model differs from analogues of the same type in its convenient and reliable device for tensioning and fixing the chain in the working position.

The number of chain links for a 14 inch tire is 52 pcs. Special processing technology guarantees a long service life for the cutting edges, but the spent stretched chain must be replaced in a timely manner.
