11 — gearbox control lever. It has three positions: forward - direct gear is engaged, middle - neutral, reverse - downshift is engaged. Before downshifting, engage the front axle. Engage the downshift with the clutch released and only after the car has come to a complete stop.

12 — Gear shift lever. The switching pattern is shown on the handle. Shift gears without jerking, applying light pressure on the lever. If you are unable to engage the desired gear before driving, release the clutch pedal slightly, then depress the clutch and engage the gear again. When shifting from a higher to a lower gear, it is recommended to release the clutch twice while briefly pressing the throttle pedal. Do not engage reverse gear until the vehicle has come to a complete stop. When reverse gear is engaged, the reverse indicator lights up.

13 - Parking brake lever. To turn on, move the lever back, to turn off, press the button located at the end of the lever and move the lever forward until it stops. When the parking brake system is applied, a red indicator on the instrument panel lights up.

14 — crank drive for ventilation and body heater dampers.

15 — fuel tank switch valve lever. the handle is turned to the left - the left tank is on, turned to the right - the right tank is on. The valve is not installed on vehicles with one fuel tank.

16 — carburetor throttle control pedal.

17 — working brake pedal. Brake the car smoothly, gradually increasing the pressure on the brake pedal. When braking, do not allow the wheels to slip, as this significantly reduces braking efficiency (compared to coasting braking) and increases tire wear. In addition, sudden braking on a slippery surface can cause the vehicle to skid.

18 — clutch pedal. When changing gears and starting from a standstill, quickly and fully depress the clutch pedal and then release it smoothly. Depressing the pedal slowly or incompletely causes the clutch to slip, making it difficult to shift gears and causing increased wear on the clutch plate. When the pedal is suddenly released (especially when starting from a standstill), the load on the transmission increases, which can lead to deformation of the clutch disc and other transmission parts. Do not keep your foot on the clutch pedal while driving, as this will cause the clutch to partially disengage and the disc to slip.

19 — Foot switch for headlights. Press the switch with the headlights on to turn on low beam or high beam. Cannot be installed on vehicles with a multifunction steering column switch.

20 - socket for a portable lamp.

21 - handle that controls the radiator damper. In certain operating modes and climate conditions, to maintain the engine coolant temperature within 70-80°C, it is necessary to use shutters to regulate the amount of cooling air in the radiator. The louver flaps close when the handle is pulled.

22 — rear view mirror (external).

23 — turn signal switch handle. The handle automatically returns to the neutral position when the steering wheel is turned

in the opposite direction (when the car is moving in a straight line). Some vehicles are equipped with a multifunction steering column switch.

24 — Carburetor throttle control handle. The extended handle is attached by rotating 90° in each direction.

Console:

1 - emergency stop switch. When you press the switch button at the same time, all indicator lamps and direction indicators, the indicator lamp (item 6) and the indicator lamp inside the switch button flash.

2 — speedometer. It shows the speed of the car in km/h, and the counter installed in it shows the total mileage of the car in km.

3 — fuel level indicator in the tank. Each tank has its own indicator (except for additional tanks).

4 — brake system emergency lamp (red). Lights up when the tightness of one of the circuits of the hydraulic drive of the brake mechanisms is broken.

5 - indicator lamp for turning on the parking brake mechanism (red).

6 — turn signal indicator light (green). It operates in flashing mode when the turn signal or hazard warning light switch is turned on.

7 — indicator light for emergency overheating of the coolant in the radiator.

8 — high beam indicator (blue).

9 — engine block coolant temperature indicator.

10 - oil pressure warning light. lights up when the oil pressure in the engine lubrication system drops to 118 kPa (1.2 kgf/cm2).

11 — oil pressure indicator in the engine lubrication system 12 — voltmeter. Indicates the voltage in the vehicle's on-board network.

13 - cigarette lighter. To heat the cigarette lighter coil, press the insert handle, push it into the housing until it clicks, and release the handle. When the desired heating temperature of the coil is reached, the insert will automatically return to its original position. Do not hold the insert in the recessed position with force.

14 — lighting lamp (installed on UAZ-31512, on other models a courtesy lamp is installed)

15 — lighting switch (plafond). On some models, the switch is located next to the lampshade.

20 - Ignition switch and combined starter switch (see Fig. 1.22 and 1 23). The key from the ignition switch of UAZ-31514, UAZ-31519, UAZ-3153 is removed only in position III, in this case, the steering shaft is locked. To lock the steering after parking, place the key in position III, remove it and turn the steering wheel in each direction until it clicks, which means that the tongue of the locking device coincides with the groove of the steering shaft locking sleeve. When unlocking the steering wheel, insert the key into the ignition switch and turn it clockwise to position 0 while rocking the steering wheel clockwise and counterclockwise. To prevent accidental activation of the starter when the engine is running (key position II), the ignition switch mechanism is locked in such a way that restarting the engine is only possible when the key is turned to position 0.

Types of material used for interior insulation

Many companies providing professional car restoration services often use special materials that can protect the UAZ loaf interior from cold and noise. However, the cost of such insulating materials is relatively high, which causes a significant increase in the cost of finishing work.

When choosing an insulating material, the following points must be considered:

1. The thicker the material used, the less space there is in the car. At the same time, the thicker the material, the more difficult the work of laying it. An example of this is laying insulation around curves.

It is also important to remember that the insulation must withstand fairly high temperatures, vibrations and other factors in the UAZ loaf interior.

Work to improve thermal insulation has been ongoing for several years. During this time, materials were found that were best suited for this task. The traditional choice for thermal insulation is:

  • Corolon is an artificial thermal insulation material that is very popular. It is lightweight, inexpensive and can be recycled. However, it is worth remembering that this material is quite flammable.
  • Special sound-absorbing and vibration-insulating coatings. They have fairly high efficiency and are used in professional tuning of many cars.
  • In some cases, the floor is insulated with aluminum sheets of sufficiently thick thickness. Metal is laid if there are problems with the integrity of the body due to severe corrosion.
  • Sheet plywood. This material does not have a high cost; it is represented by wood sawdust, which is glued together. Wood is one of the most common naturally occurring insulating materials.
  • Traditional thermal insulation materials such as mineral wool, aluminum foil, bitumen sheets and many other materials.

Insert: Important: It is worth remembering that the final result will be influenced not only by the properties of the selected material, but also by the quality of the work performed. When performing work, it is necessary to adjust the dimensions of the material to the dimensions of the car body as accurately as possible, avoiding the possibility of the formation of gaps and large cracks. Generally, special attention should be paid to door insulation. This is precisely what, due to the design features, often causes cold in the interior of the UAZ Loaf.

Soundproofing UAZ loaf

Sound insulation in a UAZ station wagon is frankly poor; the car plant in Ulyanovsk does not pay due attention to it. The UAZ itself, with its own engine, does not accelerate quickly, and these cars rarely drive at speeds above 60-70 km/h. At a speed of 60 km/h it makes such noise that it is almost impossible to talk, you have to shout. Sound insulation needs to be improved, and the work turns out to be quite labor-intensive.

First of all, to install soundproofing, you need to remove everything from the living room, disassemble the floor and remove the standard plywood. Often rust appears under the plywood covering, in which case it is necessary to treat the metal:

  • prime the iron;
  • sand off the rust with an angle grinder;
  • paint the metal.

First cover the floor with bituminous material, and then coat all joints on the body with silicone sealant. It goes without saying that all surfaces must first be cleaned of dirt and dust. We lay a sheet of polyethylene 5 mm thick on the floor, then lay new plywood, then lay linoleum (standard, acceptable for apartments).

Bituminous treatment of the front panel below, the central tunnel, on the wheel arches and the linoleum tunnel. It is enough to install vibration insulation on 80% of the surface of the entire floor, but preferably no less.

Next, we proceed to processing the roof:

  • Remove the ceiling trim;
  • Clean everything thoroughly, sand and touch up if necessary.

A vibration-proofing layer can also be applied externally, but in this case it is necessary to paint the roof in the same color as the body. If your car has a sunroof, it should also be covered with soundproofing material. If the walls inside the cabin are sheathed with corrugated aluminum sheets, then a vibration insulator is first glued onto them, then a sound-absorbing material (for example, Splan), and an aluminum profile is installed on top.

Sound and vibration insulation panels are also installed on the doors, hoods and wheel arches.

This not only improves sound insulation, but also reduces body vibration and heat inside the car.

A UAZ van intended for fishing or hunting needs to be covered with a more practical material than carpet. Carpeting quickly deteriorates and dirt is difficult to remove from it. There are several options for lining the walls and floor of the cabin depending on the use of the material:

But the cost of the “corrugation” pays off over time; such material lasts a long time. Aluminum sheets are available in various designs, and the interior decoration can be done to your liking; the material is sold in a wide range. For SUVs, aluminum is ideal for lining the interior of a van:

  • the interior does not require thorough cleaning, the floor can simply be swept;
  • Durable sheets do not deform and do not lose their appearance over time.

Will the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant modernize the “Loaf”

The “native” interior of the UAZ loaf is terribly uncomfortable, especially uncomfortable for the driver and front passenger to sit in it. The front seats in the car are small and hard and cannot be adjusted. And the entire cabin is also devoid of any comfort; it seems that it was not made for people. Why didn't the manufacturer take care of the passengers?

The UAZ 452 and its later modifications 3741 and 2206 began to be produced in the last century, and in Soviet times UAZs were used in government services, the army and the national economy, and practically did not fall into private hands. Years pass, but the SUV's awkward design remains unchanged. The creators of the model from the Ulyanovsk Passenger Plant decided not to bother themselves with modernizing the car; apparently, it is easier to develop a new brand than to make changes to the design.

Several attempts were made to modernize the UAZ; the last time changes to the design were planned to be made in 2014. But due to the crisis or other reasons, the plans were not destined to come true; however, the UAZ “Bukhanka” has not yet been taken out of production.

What qualities does the car in question have?

Finding a Loaf in good technical condition is currently quite difficult. However, if the vehicle body is not severely damaged by corrosion, then it can be used for independent tuning. UAZ can be characterized as follows:

  • High cross-country ability. The model in question was often used to create a vehicle with high cross-country ability. This is due to the fact that it has all-wheel drive and the curb weight is low. In addition, do not forget about the fairly high ground clearance, which also determines increased cross-country ability.
  • Large capacity. The vehicle has an almost flat floor and a high body height. At the same time, the body has a square shape, which is important when carrying out tuning.
  • Also, do not forget that the vehicle is initially poorly equipped. This point determines a significant simplification of the work of dismantling the finishing.

In general, we can say that Bukhanka is one of the most popular cars among those most often used for tuning. That is why we will consider all the features of interior tuning work. The onset of winter cold becomes the reason why it becomes cold and uncomfortable in Bukhanka. This is due to the fact that the degree of insulation of the vehicle is very insignificant. Within a short time, the body freezes, and the installed stove does not cope with the assigned tasks.

The above information determines that additional insulation is necessary. When carrying out tuning, which involves thermal insulation, you can significantly increase the comfort of staying in the car. UAZ cannot be classified as an expensive vehicle. That is why it is not advisable to invest more money in it. That is why we will consider how to insulate the interior using improvised means.

UAZBUKA project Seat in motion

The new buns are deprived of even the already meager 3-speed longitudinal adjustment of the front 2 seats. But it became possible to adjust the backrest tilt. The passenger can somehow make himself more comfortable, but it is very difficult for the driver to do this. We'll fix it. Moreover, one of the ears of the front standard seat mount broke off after 500 km. The driver's weight is quite average 80kg. The welding is very weak, the other fasteners will not last as long.

We buy in the store for 1200 rubles a set of four VAZ-2105 sleds. Please note that the included sleds are different! But that's what we need. You will also need: Bolts M8x20 13 pcs Spring washers and flat washers M8 13 pcs Nuts M8 13 pcs Steel strip 50x4 a couple of meters (can be used thicker) Drill Drilling machine Semi-automatic welding Cutting machine (grinder) Set of open-end wrenches

Preliminary marking of how to arrange everything. We remove or move to the side the standard insulation - it will interfere for now. We try to move the seat as close to the middle of the car as possible. Firstly, the driver will be located further from the door, and secondly, more coaxially, if I can say so about the ease of landing when the steering wheel is not shifted to the right. BUT! We take into account that we still need to open and close the engine hood. You won’t be able to gain much, but 40-50mm is possible.

We cut off the protruding small triangular bracket from the runner that does not have fixation. From the strip we make 4 platforms with an M10 hole for attaching the slide. Having protected the fabric and the base of the seat with fireproof material, we weld the platforms (welding points are circled in red). We cut off the standard fasteners using an angle grinder. We drill the necessary holes in the body with a drill and secure them with hardware. Please note that the left long bracket (strip) has a 3rd hole in the inclined part on the battery side. And before installing it on the body, you must install a bolt in the right rear plate to secure the skid.

Next, install the seat and secure it with bolts. We check everything completely. We paint the brackets (optional), protect the threads of the bolts going inside the arch, and return the insulation and sound insulation. We haven’t started doing this yet, because... The machine is in operation and there are plans to strengthen the standard vibration insulation with Standardplast sheet materials, covering the unprotected areas remaining from the installation of the skid.

Right adjustable skid. The control handle is very conveniently located in the niche and does not interfere.

Left skid. You can see the place on it where the triangular bracket was cut off. You can turn the runner itself 180 degrees, then the cut will not be noticeable.

Moved all the way back.

Moved all the way forward. The stroke was 220mm! This is even more than the pants of the old seats. And now access to the battery niche is in one motion. There is no need to turn the recline handle. The increase in seat height is only about 20mm. Now the plan is to use the second half of the set of skids for the front passenger.

Steering wheel tuning

The second very important condition for driver comfort is the most energy-efficient steering wheel with power steering. Under these conditions, the driver will not exert excessive effort to drive the vehicle in off-road conditions. The simplest option is to install a steering wheel from a Sobol car. To install you will need no more than 1 hour of time and skillful hands.

First you need to remove the sound button on the “original” steering wheel and measure the distance between the removable holes. Next, you need to drill two holes in the metal plate, which will be equal in size to those located on the “original” steering wheel. The next step is to put the puller you made yourself onto the rim and screw the bolts into the holes. The bolts should be tightened one at a time. When you tighten the bolts, you need to remove the old steering column. A new column must be installed in its place.

Solution

It's extremely simple. First you need to buy materials for work:

  1. One backpack made in China, made of “raincoat”;
  2. Two medical heating pads;

In the process of modifying the driver's seat of the UAZ Bukhanka, both heating pads need to be slightly inflated, and then put in the backpack.

Next, the factory driver's seat cushion is removed and a backpack is placed in its place. To prevent it from moving out of its seat, it must be secured with ribbons to the frame of the chair at the junction of the cushion and the backrest. On the other hand, it is recommended to attach a magnet to the backpack.

To prevent the heaters themselves from crumpling and moving around in the backpack while riding, they need to be secured with self-tapping screws through their standard eyes.

As a result of this modification of the driver's seat of the UAZ Bukhanka, we get a low and soft cushion.

Wheel tuning

Tuning , which is associated with replacing wheels, can be performed in a fairly wide range. It depends on how the car is planned to be used. If it is important for the owner to simply update the appearance of the car, then you can install new alloy wheels and inexpensive tires. Most owners of the “loaf” resort to the option of turning the lid of the compartment with the power unit into a tray for storing small items and things. Such a modification will not require much financial expenditure and will be very useful in the interior of the car.

Also, a stationary radio station and other types of auxiliary electronics can fit well here. You should definitely pay attention to this niche, because there are a lot of ideas that will allow you to retool it.

The console, which is located symmetrically to the engine compartment, can accommodate a large number of control handles for various functions, as well as information screens. Lovers of outdoor trips should think about this, as you can install an additional heating regulator here. And without extra heating, especially during winter fishing, it can be very difficult.

Replacing seats in the UAZ interior

The seats, which were developed by the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant, have a terrible design and are absolutely not suitable for extreme off-road travel. Even a driver who accurately assesses the road situation has a hard time - after an hour of such a journey, the muscles suffer from discomfort.

There is no point in repairing or improving the “original” seats. Absolutely all workshops replace them with higher quality foreign or domestic models. When choosing seats, remember that not all seats are suitable for the UAZ “Loaf”, since their width is important. Pay attention not only to the price of the selected chairs, but also to their quality, material and performance characteristics. Situations often arise when replaced seats interfere with opening the hood to access the engine, which is absolutely unacceptable.
