STIHL chainsaw stalls at high speeds reason

There are often cases when owners of chainsaws are faced with their breakdown and it does not matter at all what model of this type of equipment, since the nature of the breakdowns is almost the same for all. Well, the chainsaw has stalled, so what next? Undoubtedly, you can take the equipment to specialized services that will repair your “iron friend” for a fee. But as they say: why pay more?

After all, you can personally disassemble the instrument and repair it, since the damage may be insignificant, but in the service you will pay a lot for this. But naturally, in order to bring a tool back to life yourself, you need to be able to understand the reasons for its breakdown and how to troubleshoot it. So let's learn! In this article you can find answers to questions regarding situations when the tool simply stalls after directly pressing the gas. So let's get started.

Basic elements of chainsaws

Before we begin to delve into the issues of tool breakdowns and repairs, let’s first figure out what the chainsaw itself consists of. First of all, I would like to note that this tool belongs to the category of equipment whose operation directly depends on the internal combustion engine.

It is also important that chainsaws are equipped with a single-cylinder engine , which runs on fuel such as gasoline. It is worth noting that, despite its similarity with other tools, it does not have a gearbox. And it is replaced by a kind of single-stage chain transmission, through which the chain (saw) itself moves.

In fact, a chainsaw is a fairly simple design, but this does not prevent it from being reliable, practical and capable of fully ensuring immediate uninterrupted and cyclic operation even in quite difficult conditions. This tool consists of a huge range of certain elements “vital” for its correct and productive operation. This is a carburetor, a direct chain tensioner, a tire equipped with a chain and other elements.

Before purchasing a chainsaw, be sure to explore all your options and choose the brand of chainsaw that suits you.

To make your choice easier, we have compiled a reliability rating of chainsaws for you.

If you have a limited budget, then read the article about Russian chainsaw manufacturers.

Why does the chainsaw immediately stall and choke when you press the gas?

Chainsaws are fairly reliable and simple designs. Therefore, if you properly care for them and handle them based on the manufacturer’s recommendations, then they fail very rarely and various types of breakdowns are quickly eliminated. But if you are faced with this situation and want to repair your instrument yourself, without resorting to the help of professionals, then delve into the information presented below.

In fact, it is impossible to unambiguously and accurately determine the reason why the tool does not start or stalls when you press the gas, since there are quite a lot of factors influencing this. But do not forget that starting from the fact that the chainsaw is equipped with a simple two-stroke engine, such conditions as lubrication, fuel, spark and air are important for its effective performance.

Consequently, the carburetor directly prepares the fuel-air mixture, the filter cleans the air from dust, the ignition unit and spark plug create a spark, and the gasoline contains lubricant.

That is why it is necessary to search for the causes of this kind of breakdown in a sequential order, starting directly from the simple ones and gradually moving to the complex ones. And this is an important factor in proper repair, since the person who, without thinking, begins to disassemble the carburetor, puts it at risk. Since this kind of unit must be repaired or adjusted directly in special workshops (read about carburetor adjustment).

Wrong fuel

An important fact is that for trouble-free operation of the tool it is necessary to pay close attention to the fuel itself . Since if this kind of mixture is not prepared correctly, then most chainsaws simply will not start. Consequently, not every owner will think to look for the cause of the breakdown in the fuel. That is why, in order for your tool to always work correctly, you need to use only high-quality gasoline for the mixture.

And also use only the oil that is made by the manufacturer of your tool. In addition, it is important to prepare this kind of mixture in the amount that you will definitely use in one or two weeks, but no more (see the proportion of gasoline and chainsaw oil).

Because otherwise, overexposure of the mixture directly in the canister will lead to it losing all its octane properties and this will lead to significant problems with the instrument.

Filling the mixture when the mechanism is running

The cause of a breakdown can also be the direct pouring of the mixture into the spark plug at the moment when the mechanism is started . In order to solve this problem, you need to turn out and dry the candle, but remember that it should not be heated under any circumstances. Excess fuel must be drained through the hole (spark plug), wait 20-30 minutes, then put it back in place and try to start the tool again.

There is no spark and the chainsaw does not gain momentum

The chainsaw stalls when you press the gas because there is no spark . This can happen when there is no good contact between the tip of the spark plug and the wire (high voltage). However, if this kind of connection works correctly, but there is still no spark, then the ignition unit (electronic) is the cause. It is important to note that these types of spare parts cannot be repaired, so they can only be replaced.

Do not forget that by examining the spark plug you can obtain significant information regarding the breakdown of the chainsaw. Since if its surface is dry, then the reason for this is the cylinder, into which fuel is not directly supplied. That is why you will have to check the entire range of its supply step by step. If the spark plug is covered in black soot, this means that the carburetor is not working properly, that is, it supplies either a lot of fuel or pours oil directly into gasoline.

There is not enough fuel to supply and operate the chainsaw at full power

If the chainsaw stalls when gas is added, this means that there is not enough fuel supplied for the chainsaw to fully operate . The reason for this may be either a clogged carburetor (its jet) or contamination of the filter itself (fuel). Remember that the first unit should be checked exclusively by professionals, but you can clean the second one yourself.

Filter is dirty

In addition, the cause of breakdown can be the filter (air) if it is contaminated with dust . But do not forget that each model has its own easily eliminated and characteristic features. It is for this reason that do not hastily start disassembling and repairing the instrument, but it is best to “walk” through the forums, where there are a huge number of reviews from various owners, so as not to make things worse.

Since, for example, a Stihl chainsaw stalls when you press the gas for a simple reason, namely a simple clogging of the direct breather.

In order to solve this kind of problem, all you have to do is disconnect the (fuel) hose from the carburetor and pay attention to whether fuel is leaking out of it. Since if the mixture flows in a full stream, this means that the breather is not contaminated, but if on the contrary, then the cause of the breakdown has been found.

Muffler as the reason why the saw stalls under load

Here is another reason why a chainsaw stalls when you press the gas - muffler . It is this part that can interfere with the full operation of the tool in cases where it is directly contaminated with exhaust resinous deposits. To do this, you just simply need to clean it.

Cylinder-piston group

Quite often the partner chainsaw stalls when pressed and the reason for this is the cylinder-piston group . Since by examining them, namely the piston and cylinder, you can easily determine the cause of the tool malfunction by directly replacing them. You can also directly bore the cylinder itself relative to the dimensions of the new piston.

But if after inspection you find that there is no damage on both the piston and the cylinder, then the reason may lie directly in the rings (piston). To do this kind of check, you need to insert a piston into the cylinder and carefully begin to rock it using a connecting rod. If you suddenly feel play, then the rings need to be replaced, as they are already worn out.

Insufficient chain lubrication prevents starting and the saw does not develop speed

Many people wonder: why does the chainsaw stall when I press the gas? The answer may also lie in insufficient chain lubrication (see chain saw oil), since the oil line may be leaking, or the direct channels may simply be clogged. That is why pay attention to the chain, because if it is dry, then without delay, start cleaning the channels that supply oil directly to the tool tire. Then inspect in detail the parts where the oil pump fittings are connected to the pipes. But if you notice that oil is leaking at the joints, or you find cracks in the tubes themselves, then in the first case, seal the leaks with sealant, and the tubes will have to be replaced.

Air filter

First you need to check the condition of the fuel filter. To remove it, you need to unscrew the fuel tank cap. Next, aluminum wire with a bent end will come to the rescue. With its help, remove the fuel hose, at the end of which there is a filter.

Chainsaw device Shtil 180

The condition of the filter can be checked by blowing into it. If air does not pass through, then the filter needs to be cleaned or replaced. If air flows freely, you need to look for a blockage in the fuel hose by disconnecting it from the carburetor. The blockage can be cleared mechanically or by replacing the hose.

If the fuel hose and filter are clean, but fuel does not flow to the spark plug, the cause may be a malfunction in the air pulse supply to the fuel pump.

Do not underestimate the breakdown of this chainsaw assembly. If the muffler becomes clogged, the saw will lose power and, of course, will not start. If the muffler is dismountable, then we disassemble it, inspect it and remove all carbon deposits. In some models, the muffler will have to be unscrewed; after washing, the non-removable muffler should be dried with a hairdryer.

Please note: carbon deposits contain carcinogens that are dangerous to human health; dry cleaning is unacceptable as it can lead to inhalation of these harmful substances.

When we remove the muffler, we plug the engine exhaust hole with a clean rag. The reasons why the muffler may become clogged are:

  • Using the wrong fuel mixture (too much oil)
  • Using the wrong oil (oil not for two-stroke engines or poor quality oil)

The first thing you need to check is the fuel filter.

In some cases, a filter clogged with dirt is unable to pass through the fuel mixture in sufficient quantities. Accordingly, there is a shortage of fuel in the system, which leads to the fact that when you press the gas of the chainsaw, the fuel burns out, and new fuel does not yet have time to arrive, as a result of which the Shtil chainsaw stalls.

On the pages of the World Wide Web, you can find information that the Shtil 180 chainsaw may stall due to severe contamination of the air filter. I would like to refute this not entirely correct information and report that the Shtil MC 180 carburetor is equipped with a compensator, which is designed and installed in order to take in the air necessary for the normal operation of the Shtil 180 chainsaw, bypassing the dirty air filter.

Most likely, the reason lies in the muffler, which is clogged with combustion products (deposits) or simply debris. It is enough to clean it, and normal operation of the chainsaw will be restored. To do this, it is best to dismantle this part and wash it using ordinary detergents (aggressive ones are possible). Then rinse the muffler thoroughly with clean water and dry it with a hairdryer.

Cleaning the muffler usually has a positive effect

When cleaning, be careful: carbon deposits contain carcinogenic substances that, if they enter the lungs, can be harmful to health. The reason for the appearance of carbon deposits is the incorrect ratio of gasoline and oil poured into the tank. Most users prefer to do this “by eye”. But maintaining the exact proportions is not at all difficult: just use a disposable syringe without a needle of the appropriate volume.

Additional Tips

First of all, what you should remember when purchasing this kind of tool is that certain parts of the saw need to be replaced with new ones after their service life (passport) has expired. It is for this reason that the instructions should always be at your fingertips, since everything is described there in detail.

These types of parts include: a sprocket (drive), a tire, part of the system (anti-vibration), as well as a chain . Since we should not forget that if this “filling” is not replaced with a new one at the required time, then these worn-out spare parts will negatively affect the remaining parts of the chainsaw. It is for this reason that you should check the depth of the immediate tooth cutting quite often. Remember that it should not be higher than 0.5 mm a week.

External inspection of the spark plug

A visual inspection of a spark plug can tell you a lot about engine performance:

  • A raw working part that is wrapped in a cylinder indicates a malfunction in the power system.
    The fuel mixture is too rich. Carburetor adjustment required. Or the ratio of oil to gasoline is incorrect. There is more oil poured than normal and it does not have time to burn during the working stroke of the piston. Soot appears. You need to clean it off with sandpaper. Under no circumstances should you heat a candle with an acetylene or gasoline torch. After this, the inner part of the candle may separate.
  • Weak spark. To see the spark, you need to unscrew the spark plug. Then a high voltage wire is connected to it, the spark plug is pressed against the cylinder with its metal part. Then you need to pull the starter, and at this time look at the spark plug electrodes. A weak, unstable spark may indicate poor contacts in connection with a high-voltage wire, or an incorrect gap between the electrodes. Different spark plugs have this gap from 0.5 to 0.7 mm. As the internal electrode gradually burns out during operation, the gap increases. To restore the distance, you need to knock the outer electrode a little, or install a new spark plug.
  • Spark plug depressurization. Sometimes you can notice a dark edging between the spark plug insulator and the metal nut. This indicates that the metal part has come off the ceramic. With such a spark plug, the chainsaw stalls or works intermittently. This happens because the spark strikes the cylinder through the spark plug body. Depressurization can occur with a cheap, low-quality spark plug, or if it was over-tightened at the time of installation.

To sum it up...

Definitely, every item we buy has its own expiration date and sooner or later it breaks, and it becomes a shame when the degree of its breakdown is so great that it cannot be repaired. But you must admit that quite often we are simply negligent in our use of technology (see about proper operation and how to properly cut down a tree so that it falls in the right direction), and when it stops working, then we try to find ways to fix the breakdowns, resulting in a huge number of services.

But remember that even though the equipment breaks down, we can extend its “life” . All that is necessary is to simply take care of it, break it in after replacing parts (read how chainsaws are broken in here) and keep its spare parts clean and tidy. And then, undoubtedly, it will serve for many more years. It is also important to use exclusively high-quality spare parts and “additives” (see attachments for chainsaws). Then your equipment will work smoothly, and you will simply forget what repairs are.

We also recommend that you familiarize yourself with the Shtil ms 180 chainsaw.

And the world-famous company Stihl produces a huge range of high-quality chainsaws. For domestic purposes and simple work, the Shtil 180 chainsaw was created, which showed excellent performance and reliability. All the best practices of the German company were used here; with a weight of 3.9 kg, the chainsaw easily performed work in the garden. It is easy to trim small trees, branches, and you can even prepare firewood. But even the highest quality equipment tends to break down, and it happens that the Shtil 180 chainsaw does not start or starts with great difficulty. We tried to collect all the reasons and methods for repairing the German Stihl 180.

If you are the owner of a Stihl 180 chainsaw or want to purchase one, we offer our detailed review and characteristics of the Stihl 180.

Conclusion

If the first signs of loss of power (reduction in speed) appear with the Shtil MS 180 chainsaw, under no circumstances should you continue to work, but you should immediately contact a specialist or carry out diagnostics and fix the malfunction yourself. There are not many reasons for power loss and you can cope with them even without certain skills. The main thing is to calmly analyze the behavior of the saw and find out the reasons why it stopped pulling (the speed dropped), and eliminating the malfunction is not a difficult task.

No spark

If the chainsaw does not start, and you have not experienced any particular difficulties before, the first thing to do is check the spark plug. There may simply be no spark between its electrodes; this can only be determined after removing the spark plug. We check its functionality; to do this, we stick the spark plug into the cap of the high-voltage wire, and place the metal side of the spark plug on the cylinder (or other metal object). Now we do several manipulations with the starter, and if during them no spark is observed, the problem is specifically in the spark plug.

Attention : you must make sure that the ignition is on, otherwise the spark plug will not show a spark in any case. Also, to make sure that it is the spark plug and not the ignition coil that is faulty, take a similar spark plug and check for a spark on it. If present, the problem can be solved by simple replacement.

Ignition coil malfunction

Repairing the ignition coil is impossible; its design cannot be disassembled. But you can only check the performance of a part with a special device. If there is no spark to the spark plug, do not immediately blame the ignition coil; carry out diagnostics. Some people mistakenly run to the store for a new reel, so first make sure it’s broken and then make a new purchase.

Supplying fuel to the chainsaw

If the Shtil 180 does not start, there is a spark, then first of all we check the presence of fuel in the chainsaw tank. Of course, the problem is funny, but quite common. Next, we check whether fuel is entering the carburetor; to do this, you can disconnect the gasoline hose from the carburetor and pump in gasoline. After several manipulations, gasoline should come out of the hose, but not in a large stream, but in small jerks. If gasoline does not flow or flows poorly, the problem may be the following:

The fuel supply channel is clogged;

The fuel filter is clogged directly.

Read the article that describes why gasoline does not flow into the chainsaw. The described tips apply to Shtil 180.

As unusual as it may sound, even a too full fuel tank can cause this. If the pressure is high, the fuel hose may be squeezed out or the required vacuum may not be created. Be sure to monitor the quality of the fuel used; for proper operation, never leave the chainsaw with gasoline for more than 2 weeks. Long-term storage of fuel in the tank contributes to the creation of resins and the process of polymerization of components.

Faulty crankshaft bearings

If the Shtil 180 does not start and the fuel flows correctly, you will have to look further, namely into the crankshaft. Its bearings tend to wear out, which causes play to appear when you try to shake the flywheel. The fact is that in the presence of backlash, the flywheel magnets are attracted to the ignition coil, or rather to its contacts.

Repairing and replacing bearings requires disassembling the engine, so this work should only be performed by skilled workers or people with experience. You should not disassemble the engine if this is your first time.

Floods the spark plug

In some cases, the Shtil 180 starts and stalls, or does not start at all. Then we check the condition of the spark plug; it may be flooded. There can be two reasons for this “overflow” - improper starting of the engine when cold and a malfunction of the carburetor. We are trying to solve the problem with the following steps:

Remove the spark plug;

We turn the chainsaw over to the other side and wait until the excess fuel flows out;

To be sure, we pull the starter several times, so that gasoline will certainly come out of the cylinder;

We return the spark plug to its place, install the cap and try to start the engine again with the starter.

Carburetor repair overview

Review: the chainsaw starts and stalls. Reverse air leak into the tank

Review: won’t start, starts and stalls: how to fix?

Ivan Samoilov, 38 years old, Amur region

“My Chinese saw doesn’t start well; in general, we can say that it doesn’t start, because it immediately stalls. I start it up through rather complex manipulations, at full throttle it works and saws for some time. However, after a short time it begins to sneeze and stalls - it is impossible to work. I tinkered with it myself for a long time, and then took it to the workshop. It turned out the magneto came off - I never would have thought it was the fault of the carburetor.”

Ivan Vesnin, 33 years old, Solnechnogorsk district

“After winter I decided to take my chainsaw for a walk in the garden. Right away everything went well, I managed to start it up quite quickly, after warming up I even trimmed one apple tree, and then it began to stall. It will run for 8-10 minutes and then die. And not only under load, but also at idle. I was already scared - I decided that it was time to change the piston.

Yakov Baulov, 59 years old, Siberian Federal District

“After a long period of inactivity (I didn’t approach it for the whole winter), the chainsaw began to stall at high speeds and when the gas was sharply applied. It seems to start gaining momentum, but when adding gas, at some point it stalls. It didn't start very well from the very beginning, but I adjusted the carburetor and it seemed to work out. In short, I searched for the fault for a very long time until I climbed into the gas tank and discovered that my chainsaw was not equipped with a fuel filter - there was simply the edge of the fuel line sticking out.

Other reasons and solutions

If the chainsaw still does not start and the reason is not in the above details, you need to look deeper. Other common faults include:

Fuel pump failure;

Lack of impulse in the pipe channel from the engine crankcase;

There is no fuel supply from the carburetor;

Diaphragm rupture on the fuel pump;

Repair of the above faults can be carried out either independently, but of course it is better to give the chainsaw to a specialist; you can do the diagnostics yourself. When diagnosing, you should also check the following indicators:

Correct operation of the carburetor;

Optimal compression in the cylinder;

Compression in the crankcase.

Compression is checked both using a special device and manually. To “by eye” verify the presence of compression, simply remove the spark plug and insert a finger into the cylinder hole. Then crank the starter several times and if your finger is pulled into the hole, there is compression.

Today, many manufacturers produce units for agricultural and construction work, among which the most popular is equipment manufactured by Shtil. The high level of quality is not the only reason why the products of this manufacturer are popular in the market. This was also facilitated by the affordable price and optimal power that the models of this brand have.

It seems that many people have had to use a chainsaw of a similar brand. And not just to use, but to regularly perform a wide variety of work and make sure of the high performance characteristics of this tool. This proliferation of these products is no coincidence, given that in addition to power, this instrument stands out for its graceful design. However, you need to remember that this is still a technique with a limited service life. Therefore, every owner of such a unit at some point is faced with the need for repairs. Next we will talk about the features of repairing the Shtil 180 chainsaw.

Carburetor

One of the reasons why a chainsaw does not develop speed when you press the gas, but rather stalls, is a malfunction of the carburetor. Let’s say the Shtil 180 saw worked properly, and then it was installed for a long time and was not used. Afterwards it was started, and at idle it works well, but when you press the gas it can stall. Why does it stall? The reason is a stuck carburetor valve nozzle. Of course, this is not 100%, but the probability of such a malfunction is high. We recommend reading the article about the design and repair of the Shtil 180 carburetor.

In order to check the nozzle, you need to remove the carburetor and disassemble it. To remove, you need to unscrew the two nuts securing the air filter and the carburetor, then remove the air filter and the engine control lever, while disconnecting the air damper control rod from the carburetor. Next, you need to slightly pull the carburetor towards you and disconnect the fuel supply hose.

Chainsaw Shtil 180 stalls at idle.

You need to remove the fuel hose as carefully as possible and prepare a plug for it in advance, since fuel should come out of it.

After removing the carburetor, you need to blow it out and clean it of dirt, only after that the carburetor can be untwisted.

It is necessary to unscrew the cover of the main chamber of the carburetor; this is the one on which the compensator is installed on top. Next, use an 8 mm bolt and a length of at least 50 mm. We knock out the valve.

General information

The characteristics of this saw are a source of pride for the German manufacturer. At the same time, the unit is a tool that is designed to perform a small amount of work. The tool is positioned for domestic use, which confirms the intensity of its use, which should not exceed 20 hours per month . Having such a unit at your disposal, it will not be difficult for you to maintain order in your garden, prepare firewood for the winter, and also clear areas. At the same time, he will be able to help you in solving other problems where there is no need to perform complex manipulations.

Main characteristics

The saw in question can be considered a compact option, because its weight is only 3.9 kg. At the same time, it has a large capacity oil and fuel tank. The device performs its operating functions using a two-stroke engine, the power of which is sufficient to solve simple tasks. In addition to this, during operation this tool does not create much noise, the level of which does not exceed 98 dB . For ease of understanding, it is enough to say that human speech creates noise at a level of 76 dB.

  • The Stihl 180 chainsaw has a power of 2.6 watts. In principle, this is enough, remembering that we are talking about a tool for household use.
  • The capacity of the oil tank is 0.145 l, the fuel tank is 0.25 l.
  • The tire provided by the design has dimensions of 350 mm, with a pitch of 0.325 inches.

Winding device

As with other saws, the carburetor plays the role of the main starting device. Looking in more detail at the carburetor that the Stihl 180 chainsaw is equipped with, it should be noted that it has a single adjustment screw. In other words, it is a kind of idle adjustment screw . In this case, the jet, which bears the full load, is motionless all the time.

In other words, the regulation is not applicable to him. In turn, there is no way to influence the full load in any way. You also need to pay attention to the factory settings, due to which the air-fuel mixture is supplied directly to the engine. Moreover, this principle remains unchanged regardless of the operating conditions of the tool.

Muffler

What's first, you ask? The answer is a muffler. The muffler is responsible for exhaust gases and suppressing flames in them. All combustion products pass through it, which can eventually clog it. A clogged muffler situation is not unusual, but is caused by an incorrect fuel mixture.

With a normal ratio of gasoline to oil, the combustion products are not saturated with soot sufficient to clog the muffler. If there is more oil than normal when it burns, excessive carbon deposits will form. In addition, sludge builds up under the piston rings and in the muffler of the Calm 180 chainsaw. So, smoked muffler, the most harmless thing that can happen, the maximum damage from excessive carbon emissions, is the need to replace the piston.

The saw does not start: reasons and solutions

  • Speaking about the 180 saw, it must be said that this tool has many advantages. At the same time, this unit is not without its shortcomings. They will receive attention.
  • A common situation is that many owners find themselves in when the chainsaw does not start and the spark plug floods . This is usually associated with the formation of a leak in the oil used to lubricate the chain. This happens for the reason that over time, the area where the hose of the oil pump and the oil tank connects loses its former tightness.
  • In principle, this problem is solvable, but in order to do everything correctly, you need to take into account the design of the chainsaw in question. This process itself involves certain nuances; first of all, it is necessary to disassemble the unit, and without this it will be impossible to get to the required place.
  • For many owners of this saw, the pressing question is why the Shtil 180 chainsaw won’t start? Experts give the following recommendation in this regard: the first thing to do for those who are faced with a similar problem is to open and then close the cap located on the gas tank. There is another solution - you need to take out the candle and let it dry. You can also create the effect of artificial ventilation for the combustion chamber. Most often, these recommendations are enough to bring the device back into working condition. However, this does not always help restore the chainsaw to calm operation.
  • If there is a spark, but attempts to start the chainsaw do not lead to anything, then in this case you need to check the gas supply , the air filter, and then make sure that the spark plug is in working condition. Such manipulations need to be done for the reason that most often this kind of malfunction is caused by contamination of the breather. And if a plug forms in it, then, naturally, a vacuum environment will be created in the gas tank, which is why fuel will not flow. A similar problem can be solved quite simply, for which it is enough to remove the dirt using a needle.
  • Some owners encounter this problem when the saw itself starts up, but immediately begins to stall. The reason why the saw won't start should be found in the carburetor. Most likely, it has become clogged and therefore does not allow the tool to work correctly.
  • To make sure that the cause of the malfunction is not the breather and that it is in working order, you must first disconnect the fuel hose from the carburetor and then find out if there is a fuel leak.
  • Keep in mind that it is natural for a chainsaw to operate normally to have a dense and consistent stream of gasoline . In addition, you can often observe a situation where the Shtil 180 chainsaw does not start when hot and immediately stalls at the same moment or after some time. Usually such a malfunction is associated with the muffler. Most likely, it has accumulated a lot of deposits associated with long-term use of the tool, which is usually accompanied by the formation of exhaust.
  • At the same time, the saw may stop starting if the tool chain is poorly lubricated. Channels that have a plug can contribute to this, or the cause should be sought in an oil line that has a leak.
  • Leaks in the connecting pipes or at the installation site of the oil pump fittings can become a serious problem.
  • There are cases when the Shtil 180 chainsaw begins to stall due to a failed cylinder. To make sure that this is really so, it is enough to conduct an inspection. If, as a result of the examination, you find unevenness and chips, then this is a clear sign of a breakdown.

Faulty spark plug: troubleshooting methods

  • Sometimes during the test it is possible to find out that the problem is a faulty spark plug. In this case , it is removed and then allowed to dry . Some owners may try to heat it, but this should not be done, because otherwise this element will be damaged and after that all that remains is to throw it away. When troubleshooting, you will have to remove excess fuel by draining it through a special hole.
  • You also need to keep in mind that the drying time should be at least half an hour. After completing such an operation, you can return it to its place and then test it in action.
  • In some cases, a candle may fail due to the exhaustion of its resource . Usually, when this is confirmed, the only option left to solve this problem is to find a replacement for it. In this case, it doesn’t hurt to have a spare candle, and it’s even better when you have a whole set of such elements on hand. In this case, you can always replace the existing one with a new spark plug and see if the fault is caused by a broken spark plug.
  • At the same time, the inability to start the chainsaw may be caused by weak contact provided by the high-voltage wire and the end of the spark plug. The problem with starting the chainsaw may be due to a failure of the ignition unit. In such situations, the only solution to the problem is to replace the faulty unit, since it is not repairable.

Other faults

  • A pressing question for many owners is regarding proper idling after emptying fuel from gasoline tanks. According to experts, there is no need to worry too much about this. However, if you often have to deal with a similar problem, then it is enough to manipulate the carburetor, reducing engine speed, to restore normal operation of the tool.
  • In some cases, the owner may need to clean the muffler as this part may be causing the problem. This operation is quite simple to perform. It must be remembered that many owners are faced with problematic operation of their chainsaw due to a faulty carburetor .
  • Although in some cases it may be quite simple to fix a malfunction, it is preferable if specialists repair this equipment. After all, not every one of us has the necessary knowledge and skills, and this risks the fact that during troubleshooting on our own, there is a risk of completely damaging the tool.
