History of creation
Initially, from 1970 to 1987, excavators of this brand were made at the Leningrad Excavator Plant (LEZ), and from 1970 to 2001 - in Kalinin (now the city of Tver), at the Kalinin Excavator Plant (KEZ).
Leningrad Excavator Plant , closed in 1987, traced its history back to 1913. First - as a weapons enterprise "Machine Gun", producing small arms and ammunition for them. After the First World War and the Civil War - as a Mechanical Repair Plant (for the maintenance and repair of imported equipment, including excavators). In 1937, the plant produced its first own products: cranes with a lifting capacity of 5 tons on an automobile chassis and excavators on a tractor chassis (STZ and KhTZ).
During the Great Patriotic War, the plant was evacuated to Nizhny Tagil. A tank repair enterprise operated at the remaining production facilities. In the post-war years, the production of excavators at LEZ was resumed and continued until November 1987. In total, during this time the plant produced 33 thousand excavators of various brands.
The Kalinin Excavator Plant was founded in 1939, but the Great Patriotic War prevented the completion of the construction of its workshops. Completion of the enterprise began in January 1943. Even before it was completed, the plant was already on the list of operating ones and produced, not yet its core products, but the country needed them - spare parts for various equipment. The workers lived in army tents and worked partly in the open air.
The first excavators , brand "D-107" , were produced by the company in 1946. Subsequently, all models of excavators were produced in close cooperation with the Leningrad Excavator Plant. In the second half of the 70s, the main series and calling card of the plant for many years was “EO-3322”. This equipment was exported to dozens of countries around the world. “EO-3322” was awarded the All-Union Quality Mark in 1978. In 1981, on the occasion of the production of the 50,000th excavator, the Kalinin plant was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.
In the 90s, the enterprise, like the entire domestic economy, was in a fever. However, the plant survived, largely due to the presence of a number of export contracts. Until 2001, the EO-3322 remained on the assembly line .
Today, under the name OJSC Tverskoy Excavator, the enterprise produces a wide range of modern equipment under the brands Tveks and Terex. Of course, we are not talking about previous production volumes, but still the plant operates stably, employing more than six hundred people (as of 2016).
The wheeled full-rotary excavator "EO-3322" was mass-produced by the Leningrad and Kalinin excavator plants with replaceable working equipment (backhoe, grab and loader). For these early production excavators, the permanent (non-removable) component of the working equipment was the lower (main) part of the boom and lifting hydraulic cylinders. Subsequently, the boom on the “EO-3322” became monoblock.
The excavators of the two factories can be distinguished by one characteristic feature “LEZ EO-3322” was cast on the back of the counterweight of the Leningrad excavators , but there was nothing on the Kalinin ones. Working systems
