In a series of articles about excavator equipment combined with a loader, one cannot fail to mention the American Case 695ST. It is designed for use within the city in public utilities, agriculture, and construction sites.
The manufacturer tried to make a machine with the highest values of backhoe lift-off and lifting capacity.
Due to the use of an energy-saturated hydraulic system, the speed of operation of the actuators and the productivity of the device, compared with similar ones from other manufacturers, turned out to be higher.
Model history
The first mention of the CASE brand dates back to 1842. Then Jerome Increase Case founded a plant for the production of innovative threshing machines that separate straw from grain. With the development of the company, it began to produce steam and then gasoline tractors.
Interesting fact: the world's first internal combustion engine device, developed in 1892, was not used for almost two decades.
It appeared on the market en masse only in 1911, when steam technology began to be gradually abandoned.
Today the company produces devices primarily for agricultural purposes. But among the model range there are universal and highly specialized construction machines, as well as excavators.
The latter includes Case 695 with the “ST” index. The letters indicate that equal-sized wheels are installed on the chassis. The design is based on the company’s previous developments in the field of manufacturing and assembly of backhoe loaders.
Purpose
The machine is mainly used for loading bulk materials and excavation work. However, attachments can somewhat expand the range of tasks. To increase efficiency, the developers have used a number of functions that can make the machine easier to operate.
- Maintains bucket orientation during lifting.
- High performance hydraulic system.
- Electromechanical control of actuators.
- Independent return of the bucket to the starting position.
- Application of the RideControl stabilizing system.
As standard, the excavator is equipped with anti-vandal protection. It consists of equipping the car with a hood with a lock that can be opened from the cab, a special locking box for the battery and other mechanisms that prevent unauthorized access.
Operating Parameters
The manufacturer tried to make an effective machine that can compete with similar models. To do this, we increased the power supply - installed a more high-torque engine and a more efficient hydraulic system, and strengthened the frame.

Power unit
The loader is equipped with an in-line four-cylinder water-cooled diesel engine manufactured by FPT Industrial. It is assembled on the latest generation assembly line, ensuring precision and quality of workmanship. To increase performance and reduce toxicity, the engine was equipped with a turbine and an intermediate intercooler.

Transmission, chassis
- The transmission of rotation from the engine to the wheels is carried out through a clutch release clutch, a gearbox and drive axles with differentials.
- The first is represented by a multi-disc design operating in an oil bath.
- The excavator is equipped with a Powershuttle gearbox, which produces four speeds for moving forward and the same number in reverse.
- Steering is provided by all four swivel wheels. The design of the loader includes the functions of “crab run” and “track to trail” movement.
Thanks to this solution, the machine can move in limited space and narrow passages. The main brakes of the excavator are multi-disc, located in an oil bath. The parking mechanism is also made of the “wet” type, but with a separate mechanical drive.
Hydraulic system
The actuators in the Case 695ST are hydraulic. Earthmoving equipment and loader mechanisms are driven by cylinders with increased diameters. This made it possible to increase the breakout force of the bucket and backhoe.
To compensate for the increased volume of working fluid and increase the operating speed of the mechanisms, a high-performance axial piston oil pump was installed on the excavator. The supercharger produces 165 l/min at a pressure of 20.5 MPa. The hydraulic system, together with the reserve tank, holds 118 liters of working fluid.
To save fuel in transient conditions, the pump has a capacity control function, and the hydraulic system itself is designed with a closed center.
Description of Case wheeled backhoe loaders
Case backhoe loaders come in wheeled and tracked versions. Case 788 wheel loader:
- Case 4TA-390 engine with a power of 76 kW;
- The length of this unit is about 8 m, height - 3.2 m;
- weight - 16 tons.
The Case 788 excavator is capable of lifting loads weighing up to 14 tons. Its bucket can dig trenches and pits within a radius of 8.5 m to a depth of 5.5 m, digging up to 0.82 m³ of soil each time. It has a maximum transport speed of 25 km/h.
The Case 860 wheeled excavator belongs to the group of trench excavators:
- Case 4T-390 engine, whose power is 64 kW;
- Case 860 length is 3.2 m, height is 2.6 m;
- Case 860 weight - 5.8 tons.
The Case 860 excavator has a transport speed of up to 14.1 km/h and is capable of digging trenches 2.8 m deep and 0.4 m wide.
The Case 580 T loader is one of the most common and frequently purchased types:
- diesel engine CNH 445TA/ML5, whose power is 73 kW (97 hp);
- length - 5.5 m, height - 2.9 m;
- weight - 8 tons.
With these parameters, the Case 580 T backhoe loader is capable of reaching speeds of up to 48 km/h using a manual or semi-automatic control box. Considering that the equipment consumes 14-17 liters of fuel in 1 hour of operation, the volume of the fuel tank is 145 liters. Working as a loader, the machine is capable of moving a load weighing 1 ton. Its bucket can dig to a depth of 5.9 m, up to 6 m wide and lift up to 0.23 m³ of soil to the surface.
As additional attachments, you can use the installation of a bulldozer blade, various types of buckets, a hydraulic drill, and a hydraulic hammer. This model has several modifications, the most popular of which is Case 580 ST. Its technical characteristics are similar to the previous model, however, it has the ability to block the rear and front axles, and this function is built-in.
Case 580 f baggerlader:
- diesel engine CASE NEF-III / 445T-M2 with a power of 71 kW;
- length - 5.7 m, height - 3.9 m;
- weight - about 8 tons.
It has 2 buckets capable of digging to a depth of up to 5.9 m: the front one with a volume of 1.0 m³, the rear one with a volume of 0.3 m³.
Layout
The design of the Case 695ST is no different from other models in its class.
- Front loading equipment is located in the front part, earthmoving equipment is located in the rear part. The latter was placed strictly along the axis of the machine.
- The cabin was installed above the rear axle.
- To the right and left of the excavating equipment there are retractable supports that give the excavator stability during excavation.
- The streamlined hood is angled for improved visibility when loading.
Cabin
The ergonomics in the cabin are well thought out: the controls are grouped according to their purpose, which does not make it difficult to operate the equipment. However, air conditioning is not installed in the basic configuration; it is available as an option upon separate order. But the heating and ventilation system quickly raises the temperature when it’s cold outside.
The cabin is equipped with ROPS/FOPS standard operator protection against machine rollover and falling objects. For operator convenience, large windows are installed around the perimeter to facilitate visibility; the front and rear are equipped with electric wipers. Thanks to vibration and noise insulation, the sound pressure on the driver inside the closed cabin does not exceed 77 dBA.
Dimensions
The Case 695's dimensions are not very large. But despite its modest dimensions, the effective radius of use of the equipment is impressive. The developers achieved this thanks to the optimal location of the actuators and the provision of a telescopic handle.

The manufacturer indicates the maximum digging depth for a backhoe with a telescopic handle is 5880 m. It will be possible to load the extracted material to a height of 6965 m.
Performances
Case produces several modifications of the excavator.
- The range of models includes: 570ST, 580T, 580ST, 590ST, 695 Super R. They are arranged in order of increasing engine power and performance.
- The 695ST brings up the rear.
- The hydraulic system pump of devices 570ST, 580T is gear type.
In addition, not all cars have the function of locking front or rear differentials.
Description of Case tracked backhoe loaders
The Case cx210b excavator is a tracked type of excavator designed to perform various types of excavation work. It has a 4-cylinder diesel engine Isuzu AI-4HK1X with a power of 117 kW. A high-quality engine, together with good hydraulics, ensures fuel consumption during operation by approximately 20%.
Without installed equipment, it has a length of 5 m and a height of about 3 m. When installing additional attachments, the size of the excavator increases to 9.5 m. Due to these dimensions, the rear part of the platform has a turning radius of about 3 m. The weight of the unit is 21.5 t, which does not allow the vehicle to develop high speed, the maximum value of which is only 5.6 km/h.
The maximum possible bucket volume is 0.26 m³, with a digging radius of approximately 9.5 m and a depth of up to 6.5 m.
The Case 695st backhoe loader is one of the latest models released. The unit is equipped with a 4.5 liter FTP Industrial 445TA diesel engine with a power of 110 hp. The Case 695 st 77 loader has a mass of 8.8 tons, and its dimensions (length and height) are 5.5 m and 3 m, so it can reach speeds of up to 40 km/h.
The main advantage is the excellent operation of the hydraulics, supplemented by an axial piston pump, which reduces fuel consumption by 10%.
This device has the following important characteristics:
- ensures automatic leveling of the excavator bucket during lifting;
- the equipment is controlled using a joystick;
- the bucket automatically returns to its standard position;
- has a jaw-type bucket with folding forks;
- there is RideControl (stabilizing system);
- It has wheels of the same size on two axles, which significantly increases performance.
Recently, Case devices have been equipped with enhanced sound insulation, so nothing will distract the excavator operator from doing the job well. Thus, the sound insulation value in Case 695 st is 77 dB.
In addition, the case 695st backhoe loader is equipped with a high-quality anti-theft system, and the battery, motor and fuel tank are locked with locks.
The model is also equipped with an improved hydraulic system, which makes it possible to increase and speed up soil excavation and loading: the boom and handle at the end of the cylinder stroke have hydraulic shock absorption, which significantly improves the accuracy of the actions.
Service Features
The 695 series device turned out to be simple in terms of maintenance and operation. All places intended for daily and scheduled maintenance are located at a level accessible from the ground. This reduces the time required to maintain equipment.
In addition, all routine maintenance is described in detail in the user manual, translated into Russian. However, the instructions pay little attention to the repair sections, but this is a typical practice of Western companies, which believe that service centers should be responsible for restoring the functionality of equipment.
Price, analogues
To find out the cost of a new Case 695ST, you need to contact dealers or official representatives of the company. They will calculate the price depending on the customer’s needs, distance, and method of delivery of equipment.
We can only give an approximate amount that the buyer can count on - 4.5-5 million rubles. This figure is approximate and may vary depending on exchange rates.
On the secondary market, for a device with a lot of engine hours, they ask for about half the price of a new car. Those that are in the best condition cost approximately 3-3.5 million rubles.
Of similar models from other manufacturers with similar engine parameters, hydraulic systems and performance, only the JCB 4CX can be called.
