Mkg 16m technical specifications
The MKG-16M crane is a diesel crane with a lifting capacity of 16 tons, equipped with main and auxiliary hooks. All actuators are driven by a diesel engine through gears and independent reverses, which makes it possible to combine working movements. The crane is mainly used for loading and unloading operations, as well as for the installation of building structures, small structures and elements of the underground part of buildings.
Technical characteristics of the MKG-16M crane
The designs of the cargo and boom winches are unified and have overrunning clutches, which makes it possible to lower loads or the boom in engine mode. The rotating platform of the MKG-16M crane is unified with the platform of the MKP-16 crane on a pneumatic wheel running device. To prevent excess load on the hook, large slope or significant inertial forces, as well as in case of simultaneous action of load, slope and inertia, the crane is equipped with a single-signal electro-hydraulic load limiter.
The limiter consists of a hydraulic system connected via levers with boom guys, which perceive forces in the cargo and boom pulleys. Depending on the operating conditions of the crane on outriggers or without supports, the two-position hydraulic control valve 15 is installed in positions I or II (the MKP pneumatic wheel crane is equipped with outriggers; on the MKG-16M crane, the position of the hydraulic crane is I ). When the crane is operating on wheels (position II ), the hydraulic cylinder rod 7 moves to the uppermost position and the spring 9 is unloaded. The force arising in the guys 4 boom 1 from the loads in the boom pulley, boom 2 , cargo 3 ropes tends to rotate the eccentric shaft 14 together with the fixed lever 5 counterclockwise. When the crane operates with loads that do not exceed the nominal ones at the corresponding reach, the shaft and lever cannot turn, since the weight 10 , through the rod 6 and the travel limiter 12 , presses the lever 5 to the bracket 13 . If the crane is overloaded, the moment created by the force in the guys 4 will exceed the moment from the weight 10 and the lever 5 will turn counterclockwise at a small angle and move the plunger 16 of the spool 11 until the travel stop 12 in the bracket 13 . The movement of the plunger opens the access of fluid through the pressure line III of the hydraulic system to the hydraulic cylinders 17 and brakes 18 of the boom winch and the clutch pedal, as a result of which the drive of the crane mechanisms is turned off and the brake of the boom winch is activated. When the crane operates on outriggers (position I of the control valve handle 15 ), fluid through line III of the hydraulic system enters the upper cavity of the hydraulic cylinder and its rod 7 moves to the lower position. Spring 9 is compressed to a certain value corresponding to the specified position of the adjusting nut 8 .

A crawler crane consists of two main parts: a slewing and a fixed crane.
It is a running welded frame connected to two longitudinal beams on which final drives are installed. The crane is turned by slowing down one of the tracks, while the speed of the second one increases. When one track is fully braked, the speed of the second doubles, and the crane rotates around its axis.
The movement mechanisms are made with separate drives of crawler bogies according to several design schemes. The lifting mechanisms have a dual-motor drive with a differential, which gives four speeds.
Drive unit
Cranes with a low lifting capacity are driven by a diesel engine with a mechanical transmission, and with a lifting capacity of more than 16 tons, by a diesel generator set. Cranes with an AC power plant can operate from an external network. In some models of cranes with group drive mechanisms, a turbo transformer is installed in the transmission, which improves the performance characteristics of the crane. However, the scheme with a turbotransformer is quite complex and cannot be implemented using only standard components and parts. The use of an individual drive in this regard has great advantages. Crawler assembly cranes use exclusively an individual drive, and their individual models differ mainly only in the layout of the mechanisms on the turntable.

Differences between the MKG-25BR and MKG-25.01 versions: a little about the capabilities and characteristics
The MKG-25.01 machine (25-ton crawler crane in jib version) can have a maximum boom length of 34.4 meters and a maximum reach of 21.5 meters. This crane comes with a fairly rich set of boom equipment, including all inserts, jibs, a short fixed boom for carrying loads of up to 5 tons (which makes the crane compact and allows it to work inside industrial premises with a ceiling height of 8-9 meters). MKG-25 can move with a load weighing 25 tons. No other similar machine will be so maneuverable and capable of turning with a small radius and on moving ground, despite the fact that the weight of the MKG-25 crane is approximately 37 tons (the weight of the MKG-25BR crane in the tower-boom version is about 40 tons). This is due to the unique design of the machine’s sliding crawler, which can “fold” from 4300 mm to 3200 mm to the transport position, and the no less unique design of the crane’s 4-stage final drives. Thus, modern cars in some ways cannot surpass the “old man” MKG-25, which has not been produced for a long time. At one time, ChMZ OJSC made an invaluable contribution to the cessation of production and bankruptcy of ChKZ, but more on that later in the article on unfair competition.
The main winch works with loads weighing 7-20 tons and has an adjustable speed of lifting (lowering) loads: maximum, average and minimum (landing). The ability to adjust the operating speed is associated with the connection diagram (via a differential) and the operating modes of two asynchronous main lift motors. The main asynchronous motor of the main lift with a wound rotor has several resistances in the load circuit that are connected in steps to regulate the speed. The auxiliary winch lifts loads up to 5 tons; its speed is not adjustable.
The MKG-25BR crawler crane, as a construction and installation machine in a tower-boom version, can have a mast extended with inserts up to 28.5 meters, and be equipped with a shunting jib 10 or 20 meters long. This crane rotates 360 degrees around its axis, placing loads in the cramped conditions of a construction site. It is capable of working with a slope of up to 15 degrees. The load characteristics of the MKG-25BR crane show that on a tower with a maximum height of 28.5 meters on a jib 20 meters long, it can lift loads from 0.7 to 8 tons (at maximum and minimum reach, respectively). On a tower 18.5 meters high, work is carried out with loads from 6.2 to 20 tons.
On the market since the 70s of the last century
The fact that detailed technical characteristics of the MKG-25BR crawler crane, as well as its load-carrying diagrams and detailed photos of machines in good condition can be found everywhere on the Internet, indicates that the old Soviet machine is still in operation and is leaving the construction market for now not going to. This crane is rarely found in capital cities, where a lot of imported equipment was imported 15-20 years ago, but all of Russia is far from being limited to these cities. Among builders, the model of the MKG-25BR crane in a tower-jib design is more famous than the “regular” jib crane MKG-25.01.
It is also not surprising that, given the inability of many companies to buy new equipment, the markets for spare parts and old used cars are reviving. The market economy since the 90s of the last century has provided us with freedom to choose the direction of our activities, but then it became clear that this was largely the freedom to use old resources - the Soviet legacy. The transition periods of our economy, which have periodically occurred since then and “shaken” all business representatives as if on a volcano, do not contribute to the emergence of either powerful design schools, or strong research institutes, or industrial giants. We can say that it is good that the old heritage still exists, although, of course, over the years it is rapidly diminishing.

Other modifications
There are several more modifications of this crane:
- 25.01A. This is an electric jib crane with a diesel engine and a lifting capacity of 25,000 kg. It is assembled on the basis of the 25BR model. Thanks to the improved characteristics, the unit has a wider range of boom equipment for both the working body and the tower. By using low-alloy steels in the design, it became possible to reduce the weight of the crane.
- 25.01B. The equipment has increased cargo-height ratings. The length of the working body can reach 36.8 m, the maximum lifting height is 54.8 m.

A special feature of the crane installation is its low moving speed – 1 km/h. and rapid wear of caterpillar tracks, which necessitates the use of a special truck tractor with a trailer trailer to deliver special equipment to the construction site. Each movement must be coordinated with the traffic police in order to obtain permission to transport heavy equipment and escort vehicles.
