Main settings

The main property of a walk-behind tractor is reliability and quality. Technical characteristics of the model Neva MB-23 9 l. With. allow us to evaluate the walk-behind tractor as a high-performance design.

Main components for the MB-23 model:

  • frame;
  • gearbox;
  • transmission;
  • engine;
  • cutters;
  • hitch bracket.

The maximum speed for the walk-behind tractor is set using a gearbox that has 3 speeds for forward movement and one for reverse. Often during work there is a need to change the speed of movement of the unit. To increase the rear speed on the Neva walk-behind tractor, you should reinstall the drive belt.

A universal mobile device has additional equipment:

  • plow;

  • cutters;
  • potato digger;
  • segment and rotary mowers;
  • trailer.

Engine displacement is 306 cm³, power is 10 liters. With. The walk-behind tractor's ignition system helps the device operate smoothly in all weather conditions.

Before starting plowing, the equipment is run in. The user follows all the rules specified in the instructions. If a problem arises, how to set the reverse speed on a walk-behind tractor in order to plow heavy soil, replace the gear pair mounted in the wheel gearboxes. Mounting a gear increases the speed by 1.5 times. The second option is possible - installing large diameter tires (704 mm).

Diesel equipment of the unit

The description of the mobile device of Krasny Oktyabr JSC allows one to judge the quality of its products, power and price. The Neva diesel walk-behind tractor is equipped with an engine of the Japanese brand Robin Subaru DY27-2D.

The motor has a power of 5.5 liters. With. The following attachments are installed on each cultivator model:

  • mower;
  • root crop digger model B904L;
  • snow removal equipment.

The Neva walk-behind tractor uses a functional and easy-to-use gear shift system. The Pro version of the diesel engine is equipped with a headlight and an electric starter.

A simple lightweight model is equipped with a fuel tank with a capacity of 3 liters. The diesel engine can be equipped with water cooling, allowing the unit to increase efficiency under heavy loads.

Oils poured into the engine must correspond to the brand specified by the manufacturer. Operation of the D6 diesel unit is carried out after its re-preservation. Disassembling the unit is intended to remove grease from the outer surfaces of components and parts and warm up the diesel engine. How many operations must be carried out during the depreservation process is indicated in the instructions.

The user becomes familiar with the operation of the units in winter conditions, since motor cultivators require refilling the oil dial regulator with a mixture of 50% diesel fuel and 50% MS-14 oil. In winter, the diesel engine is heated with hot water and oil. Starting a cold engine is prohibited.

Gearbox features

Thanks to the increased number of gears, the user can select the appropriate speed for any agricultural operation. The gearbox for a walk-behind tractor has an increased gear ratio, which allows you to increase the capabilities of the unit using less power.

The gearbox of the Neva walk-behind tractor is equipped with silicone sealant, which provides a reinforced coating of the housing. A special feature of the gearbox of the Neva walk-behind tractor is that the components necessary for changing gears are mounted on its outer part of the housing.

The MultiAgro gearbox is mechanical, gear, chain, has a streamlined shape that reduces resistance during plowing. The oil level in the gearbox ensures successful operation of the unit and protects the engine from premature wear.

A cross-sectional diagram of a classic gearbox and MultiAgro shows the main differences in the design of gearboxes.

Today MultiAgro is available in three modifications for different models of Neva walk-behind tractors:

  • MB-1 MultiAgro – (3+1) x2 gears, without unlocking axle shafts;
  • MB-2 MultiAgro – (3+1) x2 gears, with unlocking of the right and left axle shafts;
  • MB-2 MultiAgro – (4+2) x2 gears, with unlocking of the right and left axle shafts.

Before adding fuel, you must familiarize yourself with the rules for handling the gearbox. The user must navigate the price and quality of the fluid in order to cope with changing the oil in the gearbox of the Neva walk-behind tractor.

It is necessary to pay attention to the degree of viscosity of the material and special additives. The Multi Agro gearbox is filled with ZIC 10w40 gear oils of the API-SM/CF standard. You should study the technical data of Super T-3 85W-90 lubricant before pouring it into the gearbox.

Reducer MultiAgro and classic. Comparison

Based on the MultiAgro gearbox, models of Neva MB-1, MB-2 and MB-23 walk-behind tractors have been produced since 2022. Thus, the model range can be divided into 2 classes: with classic and MultiAgro gearboxes. A comparison of the main parameters is shown in the table below.

How does the MultiAgro gearbox win over a conventional gearbox:

  1. Increased number of gears when moving forward. This allows you to select the most suitable speed for a specific job and increase productivity.
  2. The gearbox is located on the steering column, while the classic version provides only direct shifting with a lever mounted directly on the gearbox itself.
  3. The steering wheel has a more ergonomic shape, which reduces the load on the back and arms (based on feedback from owners of multi-speed models).
  4. During operation, the steering column can be rotated 30 degrees to the left or right. This allows the operator to follow the machine from the side when working, avoiding the plowed strip of land.
  5. In models MB-2 and MB-23, both left and right wheels can be unlocked, while on motor cultivators with a conventional gearbox only the left wheel is unlocked. This feature allows the user to easily control the machine and maneuver when riding with a cart.

Reviews about the MultiAgro gearbox

Owners of Neva MultiAgro multi-speed units leave both positive and negative reviews about the operation of the gearbox.

Advantages that are noted above all:

  • high maneuverability;
  • you can set the speed that is optimal for a specific agricultural operation: for example, if the cultivated area has both clay and sand, lowering the gear will help plow the soil with minimal physical effort;
  • speed control on the steering column makes it possible to work continuously without stopping to change gears;
  • adjustable steering wheel height and the option of turning it.

Other users highlight the following disadvantages when using Neva walk-behind tractors with a MultiAgro gearbox:

  • fragile fixing mount for steering column adjustment;
  • the gearbox axle release shaft is fragile and quickly breaks under increased loads;
  • difficult gear shifting;
  • the gearbox refuses to work at very low temperatures in winter.

Features of launching some models of walk-behind tractors

Different models of walk-behind tractors start in different ways. In order not to encounter difficulties, you should carefully read the instructions, where everything will be described in detail.

So, to start the Neva , you need to turn the ignition switch to the “on” position. After this, you open the gasoline valve and close the choke valve. The throttle should be at approximately ¾ of the maximum setting. Pull the starter and then open the choke. If you start the walk-behind tractor in the cold season, then you need to open the damper gradually.

How to start a Ural walk-behind tractor?

How to start a walk-behind tractor without a starter?

In some cases, operation of the walk-behind tractor becomes impossible due to a breakdown of the trigger mechanism. It can fail anywhere, including in a field, far from home. To solve the problem and start the walk-behind tractor, you don’t always need to take it back to the garage.

Sometimes the design of agricultural units makes it possible to start their power unit without using a starter.

  • Unscrew the screws and remove the trigger mechanism;
  • Clean the area under the standard starter, removing dirt and moisture from it;
  • Under the starter there is a crown necessary for permanent connection of the engine crankshaft with the starter drum. You will need to wind any cable around the rim of this crown, making 4–5 complete windings around the element;
  • Lightly pull the free end of the cord towards you until there is resistance - this means that the piston has risen up;
  • Turn off the decompressor by moving its lever to the zero position;
  • Pull the cable sharply towards you.

How to start a Patriot walk-behind tractor?

To extend the service life of Patriot brand walk-behind tractors, you need to fill them only with pure 92-grade gasoline. It is not recommended to use 95 fuel, since its quality at many gas stations is much lower than AI-92 gasoline. Synthetic motor oil for 4-stroke internal combustion engines is poured into the engine crankcase.

In addition, Patriot brand walk-behind tractors are equipped with a container for pouring oil directly into the air filter of agricultural implements. There are marks on the container where you need to fill the lubricant. The manufacturer does not recommend pouring lubricant above the “bath” provided in the container, since the heated liquid will gradually begin to flow into the engine carburetor.

After this, you can proceed directly to starting the engine. To do this you will need:

  • Set the cold start lever to the left position;
  • Turn the fuel supply valve to the “On” position;
  • Set the ignition switch to the “Start” position;
  • Slowly pull the starter cable towards you until resistance appears;
  • Pull the starter cable sharply towards you - as a result, the engine should start;
  • Give the engine time to warm up;
  • Move the throttle control lever to the mid-turn position;
  • Set the cold start lever to the right position.

Unit repair

The owner studies the structure of the walk-behind tractor and corrects faults in a timely manner. When the engine is running, ignition may occur, black smoke may come out of the muffler, and carbon deposits may form on the spark plug.

In this case, it is necessary to disassemble the air filter and clean it. If the spark is lost, the engine does not start, and the spark plug is wet, the reasons for the failure in the ignition system are determined. The owner of the walk-behind tractor cleans the electrodes, rinses and dries the parts. It is necessary to disassemble the walk-behind tractor engine, observing the following rules:

  • drain the oil from the crankcase;
  • install the filler plug;
  • Disconnect the hose and air filter.

Next, you should dismantle the remaining parts of the engine. Before assembling the engine, parts are cleaned of dirt and components to be installed are washed. When setting up the crank mechanism, check the suitability of the oil scraper rings for operation.

Piston rings are replaced only as a set.

Starting a walk-behind tractor after winter

Such cars tend to have difficulty starting after wintering. First of all, the performance of a walk-behind tractor after winter is affected by the storage conditions of equipment in cold weather. If the car is left over the winter in a cold and damp garage, this can lead to serious problems.

Before starting the walk-behind tractor for the first time this season, it is recommended to change the oil and fuel. It is also necessary to make sure that the performance characteristics of the technical fluids used correspond to the ambient temperature. It is also recommended to read the instructions again to ensure all proportions are observed.

There is a high probability that the walk-behind tractor will not start immediately. This is normal, you need to let the parts warm up well. In addition, it is necessary to warm up the walk-behind tractor even after the engine starts. Over the winter, the fuel could thicken, so it is better not to start using the car intensively right away.

  • check if the wires are broken;
  • clean the spark plug contact with sandpaper;
  • blow out the fuel line.

Engine DM-1-01 and its modifications

The Neva walk-behind tractor is equipped with an economical 6 hp engine. With. Working fuel is used: gasoline grades AI-80, AI-92 in accordance with TU-38.001165-2003. The carburetor is equipped with an air filter, allowing easier starting at low temperatures. Automatic decompressor reduces starting force. Stable operation is ensured by contactless electronic ignition.

The engine consists of parts:

  • crank mechanism;
  • gas distribution systems;
  • fuel mechanism;
  • air supply and removal of processed gases.

Ignition of the walk-behind tractor is necessary to ensure uninterrupted sparking in the spark plug.

Before starting work, the engine is depreserved. The fuel tank is filled with gasoline in the amount of 2 liters, and the cold (unheated) engine is started.

Some users do not know how to increase the crankshaft speed. Excessive load without warming up the engine leads to rapid wear of the piston pairs and, as a result, causes them to jam.

Starting the engine without a starter

Quite often the starters are the first to fail. Moreover, this can happen at the most inopportune moment. In order not to waste time and money on completely replacing the part, you can start the engine without it.

To start a walk-behind tractor without a starter, just follow these steps:

  • Remove the broken part;
  • Find a strong rope about a meter long (can be removed from a broken starter);
  • In the place where the starter was, you will find a round metal piece. There is a special hole on one of its walls. Thread the rope through it and secure it with a knot;
  • Wrap the cable around the part several times until the remainder is about 40 cm.

User opinions

Reviews from walk-behind tractor owners help future users take into account errors and become familiar with the advantages and disadvantages of the equipment.

Vasily, Perm: “I purchased a Neva MB-2 walk-behind tractor with a power of 7 hp. With. The unit is made with high quality. There are no complaints about the operation of the speed switch; I am quite satisfied with the engine power. The walk-behind tractor is stylish and fashionable, I give it 5 points.”

Some users have a different opinion about the purchased unit.

Ivan, Vologda: “I bought a Russian walk-behind tractor Neva MB-2S-7.0. The spark often disappears, a major breakdown occurred - a fire, which I fixed myself. When I started it for the first time, I saw that the gears were not changed by the lever. I didn’t like the unit.”

Reviews about Neva MB-Compact

Owners consider the main advantage of the Neva Compact model to be its small size, which increases maneuverability and productivity in small areas with light soil. Working with a walk-behind tractor does not require much physical effort, especially if you install an additional wheel on it. Thanks to the comfortable steering wheel design and the absence of vibration feedback, the operator does not get tired even after long hours of work. Another advantage is the optimal number of gears that can be changed from the remote control on the steering wheel.

Disadvantages of the model noted in the reviews:

  • During operation, the belt protective cover rattles strongly;
  • on soft soil, the back of the walk-behind tractor sinks, and the user has to constantly lift the unit or attach additional weighting;
  • Dust and dirt can accumulate in the open gearbox breather.

Many reviews about the Neva walk-behind tractor, both positive and negative, do not reduce interest in it, since success in work depends not only on the machine itself, but on the skill of the user.

Operation and maintenance of Neva MB-1 MultiAgro walk-behind tractors

What oil and fuel is best to use?

Type of gearbox oil recommended by the manufacturer: transmission oil SAE85W-90 API GL-5 (it is allowed to use TM-5 oil (from -25 to +35) GOST 17479.2-85).

Filling volume l., 1.5. Type of engine oil: in summer it is better to use SAE 10W-30 oil, in winter - SAE 5W-30. Fuel type recommended by the manufacturer: pure gasoline AI - 92, AI - 95.

Add oil only when necessary.

It is recommended to change the oil in Briggs & Stratton engines for the first time 5 hours after the first start of the walk-behind tractor; in the future, in these engines it is recommended to change the oil every 8 hours of operation and before the change of season (spring-summer and winter-autumn).

In Honda engines, the oil is changed within the first 20 hours of operation after the first start, and then at least once every six months.

Tips for the first start-up and running-in of Neva MB1 MultiAGRO walk-behind tractors

The first start-up of the walk-behind tractor must be carried out adhering to the following rules:

  1. check the complete set of the walk-behind tractor;
  2. start the engine only when the walk-behind tractor is on a flat surface;
  3. check that the fuel and oil levels are sufficient;
  4. make sure that the threaded connections are securely fastened;
  5. start the engine, turning on the ignition smoothly;
  6. let the walk-behind tractor run idle for 5-10 minutes;
  7. get moving and start working.

Run-in is the period of the first 20 hours of operation of the walk-behind tractor.

During the break-in period, it is important to follow these recommendations:

  • do not load the walk-behind tractor at full capacity;
  • do not cultivate virgin soil with a new machine - let the equipment “go into operation”, run-in on pre-cultivated land;
  • Do not equip the walk-behind tractor with additional cutters, use only the supplied ones;
  • change gears only after the rotation of the main pulley has stopped;
  • Change the oil after 20 hours of operation.

Gear shift

To correctly change gears on a walk-behind tractor without shortening the “life” of your walk-behind tractor, follow these simple recommendations:

  1. Stop the walk-behind tractor to change gears - do not remove the shift knob while the machine is moving!
  2. The start of movement is made by moving the engine to ½ of the maximum, then the required gear is engaged. By pressing the clutch smoothly, you will ensure that the walk-behind tractor starts moving. After this, you can gradually increase the number of engine revolutions to give the equipment the required speed.
  3. To change gear, release the clutch lever. Make sure that the gear pulley does not rotate, change gear. Resume driving by pressing the clutch. Make all shifts smoothly, without exerting effort or jerking the levers or handle.

Replacing drive belts

NEVA MB-1 walk-behind tractors and their modifications have a built-in front-rear V-belt drive.

To replace the belt in a walk-behind tractor, you need to know the type of belt, its length (you can simply measure it manually), and the degree of tension.

Before replacement, the casing is removed from the V-belt mechanism, and then the back bar is removed from the pulley. The key is used to loosen it, and then the spring-loaded roller is removed. Next, a new belt is tensioned, and those parts that were removed are put back and strengthened.

Belt type suitable for these types of walk-behind tractors: forward drive belt A-1213.

Carburetor adjustment

You can adjust the carburetor yourself only if you already have experience in such repair work.

To adjust you need:

  • Unscrew the low and full throttle screws as much as possible;
  • start and warm up the engine;
  • turn the engine to the lowest speed;
  • then achieve stable idle speed and set the maximum idle speed;
  • then adjust the minimum engine speed at idle, alternating with the maximum. This is done until the engine starts to idle stably and without any extraneous noise or knocking.

Valve settings

Setting or adjusting the valves is done using wrenches, a screwdriver and a feeler gauge. The essence of the adjustment is to set the standard clearances between the valves, then the engine will operate properly.

To adjust, remove the engine casing, and then the valve box cover, adjust the clearances using a feeler gauge, then replace the box cover and casing.

Changing the gearbox oil of a walk-behind tractor

One of the most important maintenance points for a walk-behind tractor gearbox is timely oil change.

The manufacturer recommends using transmission oil SAE85W-90 API GL-5 for gearboxes of this model and their modifications (it is allowed to use TM-5 oil (from -25 to +35) GOST 17479.2-85). Refill volume: 1.5 l.

Replacing oil seals

The most common problem with oil seals is their leakage. If you notice that oil is leaking, it is better to replace the seals.

This is quite simple to do: you need to remove the seals, clean the shaft from any remaining oil and debris, replace the seals with new ones and install the cover in place, securing it with bolts.

Possible ignition problems

If the ignition is acting up, you probably need to reset it. To do this, remove the spark plugs, wipe the electrodes and, if necessary, clean the spark plugs from carbon deposits or replace them, then set the gap between the electrodes. Next, the spark plug is fixed in the cylinder head, and the crankshaft is rotated.

If the ignition is properly ignited, a white-blue spark will appear.

It is also recommended to check the flywheel and stator; the normal gap between these parts is 0.10 - 0.15 mm. Using a feeler gauge, this gap can be increased. If you don't have a probe, use a razor blade or a landscape sheet folded into four.

Starting a walk-behind tractor after winter

Owners of walk-behind tractors often encounter this problem when the equipment does not want to start after wintering. This is due to storage conditions. If the car was in a cold room with high humidity, then you may end up with a number of serious breakdowns.

Before the first start in the spring, you must completely change the oil and fuel. Ensuring that liquids are at ambient temperature is extremely important.

You may encounter that the walk-behind tractor refuses to start immediately. And this is quite normal. Let the equipment warm up a little. It should warm up even after starting the engine.

If the start of the walk-behind tractor still fails, you need to perform the following steps:

  • Bleed the fuel system. There could be residues from gasoline or diesel in it;
  • check the spark plug. The contact can even be cleaned a little with sandpaper;
  • Check all wiring to ensure there are no breaks or damage.
