Many farmers have asked questions in recent years: which tractor is better to buy: the time-tested MTZ-82, or the more modern Minsk model? What is good about this tractor, which is a more “advanced” modification of the 82nd model, and is it worth overpaying for it? In this article you can find not only the answer to these pressing questions, but also a detailed description of the technical characteristics and features of the MTZ-920 tractor.
Minsk Tractor Plant is one of the few large machine-building enterprises that not only survived the collapse of the Soviet Union, but also repeatedly increased its production potential, product range and sales, and trade expansion to other countries. MTZ was the first of the former Soviet enterprises to certify its products according to European Union standards, and in May 2000 it received a set of international quality certificates “ISO-9001”. Since the same year, the “Belarus” brand has been used on tractors (in Soviet times, “Belarus”).
One of the best-selling MTZ tractors
Every tenth wheeled tractor coming off the assembly line on our planet is an MTZ tractor. Today, the current MTZ catalog presents to potential consumers two dozen basic models of a wide variety of tractors, wheeled and tracked, from mini-format to powerful, energy-intensive 10th traction class. We can say that the company strives to cover absolutely all market segments, and this task is being successfully accomplished.
If you look at the sales statistics, it will become obvious that the most popular in the domestic market are still universal tractors of the 1.4 traction class: “MTZ-82” (and its variant “MTZ-82.1”), which have become the modern incarnation of the legendary “MTZ -80 Belarus.” Along with the 82nd Belarus, another modern model, the MTZ-920, is also gaining popularity.
Features and scope of application of the MTZ-920 tractor
"MTZ-920" is a universal row-crop wheeled tractor of traction class 1.4, with four-wheel drive. This model is considered a modernized version of Minsky’s “bestseller”, its further development. Both models use the same D-243 diesel engine, without turbocharging, the other design features of which are also identical. With the exception of literally two or three.
Moreover, in its design, “Belarus-920” has a lot in common with many other tractors of the Belarusian manufacturer, in particular, with “MTZ-892”, “MTZ-952” and so on. They differ from each other in terms of engine power parameters, the presence or absence of turbocharging. “MTZ-920” has found its niche in the market largely due to the fact that the diesel engine installed on it is quite economical, both in terms of fuel consumption and the cost of its maintenance and repairs. A significant plus is the relatively low cost of the tractor, thanks to which it pays for itself in a fairly short service life.

Thanks to its versatility; solid hanging capacity; Possibility of aggregation with a huge number of trailed, mounted and semi-mounted equipment; ease of use for various types of excavation work and cleaning the territory, this model of the Belarus tractor has found favor not only with farmers, but also in municipal, forestry, construction and industrial farms. And not only in the vastness of the former Union, but also in European countries!
Reviews
Here is a review from one of the owners:
“My father worked on a collective farm under the Soviet regime at MTZ-82, and after the collapse the tractor remained with him as payment, then it was transferred to me. The tractor worked conscientiously for 35 years and was sold for spare parts. Now my children and I are running a small farm (20-25 cows) and fields of 50 hectares, when the need arose to buy a tractor, we didn’t think for a long time - MTZ-82. But we found a used MTZ 920 through an ad, in excellent condition. And we haven’t regretted it for 7 years now.”
The MTZ-920 and MTZ-921 tractors are universal row-crop wheeled units, all-wheel drive models 1.4 tk. Sales statistics of MTZ equipment indicate that the best-selling model is MTZ-82, on the basis of which modernization was carried out and its modern version MTZ-920 was created, using the latest technology.
The tractor was initially designed to perform various agricultural work, taking into account expanded functionality in other industries: transporting goods, as a drive for stationary machines and equipment. Available aggregation with additional accessories has made the tractor a popular piece of equipment in the municipal sector, construction, industry, road and forestry.
A significant advantage is the affordable price, due to which the payback period for the equipment is short. You can buy an MTZ-920 Belarus tractor for 1.2 million rubles; a used unit can cost from 0.7 million rubles. The price of the MTZ-921 tractor starts from 0.8 million rubles.

Owner reviews
Semyon:
“I have been driving the Belarus MTZ 920 tractor for three years. I didn’t even expect such a functional unit. Among the advantages, I would like to note the high power and efficiency of work, economical maintenance. The cabin is comfortable. Any hitch can be installed on the machine.”
Vadim:
“The MTZ 921 Belarus tractor is a cool machine. It works great in the garden. When it comes to diesel fuel, it’s economical. It practically does not break down, no more often than other tractors.
Among the advantages, I note the low cabin - even on a farm I can easily enter the room.
The downside is that the air intake system is not well thought out.”
Anatoly:
“The Belarusian tractor MTZ-920 is made to last. Its advantages are obvious: affordable price, easy operation, simple repairs, high versatility, it can work in any weather. I consider the not fully developed design of the gearbox to be a serious drawback - the gears are stretched, it has not worked for more than 3 years. If there is not enough diesel in the tank, the tractor often stalls, and after that it does not want to start at all. We also need one intermediate speed for cultivation. Due to the wide tires, you have to readjust the width of the rear track, otherwise the wheels will not fit between the rows. But overall the technology is at a high level.”

Possibilities of aggregation "MTZ-920"
The options for using the Belarus-920 with a variety of trailed, semi-trailer and mounted equipment are striking in their impressive number. In addition to the standard three-furrow plows “PKMP-3-40R” and “Plow PLN-3-35P”, the tractor can be used with mounted plows: driven plowing and reversible plows for smooth plowing.
With mounted, disc, garden and heavy harrows; with cultivators for continuous tillage. With combined units: chisel and tillage. With seeders of various designs: precision seeding; pneumatic; stubble; with an additional option for applying fertilizer; dotted seeding. With a variety of mowers: trailed conditioner; mounted with chopper; segmental finger; disk-mounted or semi-trailer. With units and diffusers for fertilizing soils (applying liquid organic and mineral fertilizers). With square or round balers, rakes, tedders, silage and haylage packers, bale wrappers. With snow blowers, KUNs, hay haulers, loaders of all types. Naturally, with tractor trailers and semi-trailers, regular flatbed and dump trailers. And so on and so forth.
