ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT AND DEVICES OF YUMZ-6AL and YUMZ-6AM TRACTORS

The tractor is equipped with direct current electrical equipment, made according to a single-wire circuit (Fig. 65 and 66), in which the functions of the second wire are performed by the metal parts of the tractor (“ground”). The negative terminals of all electrical equipment are connected to the tractor ground.

The rated voltage in the electrical equipment system is 12 V. The tractor electrical equipment system includes:

a) sources of electricity - generator set and batteries;

b) diesel or starting engine starting system (on the YuMZ-6AL tractor) - starter with remote activation, starter relay, blocking relay;

c) lighting and light signaling - front and rear headlights, side lights, direction indicators, brake light, license plate light, cabin light, control lamps: turn indicator (green filter) and high beam (blue filter), instrument lighting lamps and portable lamp;

d) electric motors - windshield wiper, fan, heater and windshield washer;

e) control and measuring instruments - ammeter, temperature indicator in the diesel cooling system, oil pressure indicator in the diesel lubrication system and fuel level indicator;

e) sound signal, switches and switches, plug sockets, fuse blocks, connecting panels, electrical wires (harnesses).

Design of YuMZ-6

YuMZ-6 has a classic design, the basis of which is a half-frame consisting of two powerful channels and a so-called beam. The transmission housing is bolted to the semi-frame, and the YuMZ-6 engine, gearbox and axle are a kind of single whole, tightened with bolts. The engine is also attached to the semi-frame.

In the tractor instructions, in the “Purpose” line it says: “Agricultural, universal row-crop and transport tractor.”

Cabin

The YuMZ cabin is quite comfortable for a tractor from the second half of the last century. It is quite spacious and bright, has good sealing, all-round glazing, an opening rear window and an overhead hatch. The YuMZ-6 cabin is attached to the frame using rubber shock absorbers. The cabin equipment is also quite decent - a lamp, a heater, a fan, a first aid kit, a tool bag and even a thermos for drinks. The YuMZ steering wheel is adjustable in height and tilt, and is equipped with a hydraulic booster.

It is worth noting that in 1974 the Swedes bought the technical documentation for the YuMZ tractor and from 1976 they began producing the Volvo BM-700 tractor model, which was essentially a deep modernization of the YuMZ-6.

The YuMZ front axle is quite simple, but reliable; has one attachment point in the front beam. But the rutting can be changed in increments of 10 cm, while increasing or decreasing the width of the bridge. You can also extend the rear wheels.

Like any multifunctional tractor, the YuMZ-6 is equipped with a PTO - a power take-off shaft. It can be used to perform a range of work in the fields of agriculture and construction.

Engine

Engine YuMZ-6 - diesel D-65 - piston four-stroke four-cylinder. This is an in-line vertical cylinder engine equipped with direct fuel injection. The YuMZ-6 engine has a volume of 5 liters and a power of 60 hp, revolutions from 1400 - 1600 per minute.

The engine was famous for its reliability, although many Soviet tractors could boast of this.

Transmission

Although the YuMZ-6 gearbox is five-speed, the real maximum speed of the tractor is 25 km/h. The design of the gearbox allows the engine to operate with the machine in a standing position and the clutch engaged, and has a reduced gearbox.

Due to the fact that the YuMZ gearbox has a housing cast together with the rear axle housing, this made repairs difficult, since at that time there were no lifts and other equipment.

The tractor is equipped with separate drum brakes, which makes it easier to control and maneuver - you can brake different wheels. YuMZ-6 is not afraid of off-road conditions thanks to the rear differential locking system.

Device

The main part of the model’s skeleton was two channels, rigidly coupled with a beam, or a frame with an engine, rear axle, clutch and gearbox attached to it. The front compartment of the transmission housing included a reduction gearbox, the rear compartment included control of the brake system, PTO and differential.

The chassis of the YuMZ-6 consisted of a rigid suspension of the front axle. It was distinguished by a simple transmission force control mechanism and the use of a flow clutch. The steering column in later versions of the tractor was adjustable in several ways. Due to the high center of gravity, the model could overcome an angle of only 10 degrees. However, in practice, YuMZ-6 felt confident on significant slopes.

The steering of the model has a hydraulic booster. The hydraulic system of the tractor is presented in the form of a unit that does not have automation devices. YuMZ-6 is equipped with wheels with low-pressure tires. The tractor track is automatically adjusted within the range of 1400-1800 mm.

Main blocks of electrical circuit

The elements listed above form a general scheme when combined into the following blocks:

a power supply source consisting of a generator connected to batteries;
the device for starting a diesel engine and starting engine is made by a starter, which provides remote activation, a blocking and starting relay, including a blocking module;

Modifications

The YuMZ-6 family is represented by 4 diverse modifications:

YuMZ-6L belonged to the debut series tractors. Most of its elements repeated the design of the MTZ-5. These models were equipped with hoods with a rounded radiator grille. Externally, the YuMZ-6L was very similar to the first copies of the MTZ-50.
YuMZ-6AL was distinguished by a new steering column, adjustable in angle and height, a rectangular hood, modified brake mechanisms and a modified instrument panel located in the cabin.
YuMZ-6K is an industrial version of YuMZ-6, which received mounting points for equipping a bulldozer and an excavator. This modification did not have a rear linkage system. Later YuMZ-6K was converted into an agricultural version.
YuMZ-6AK has been produced since 1978. The modification was distinguished by an operator's cabin with increased visibility (the MTZ-80 had a similar operator's cabin) and an improved hydraulic system with position and power regulators.

Note that the letters “M” and “L” in the family denoted versions whose engines were started by an electric starter and a starting motor, respectively.

Technical characteristics and fuel consumption of YuMZ 6

YuMZ-6 belongs to the 1.4-thrust class and is equipped with D-65 (60 horsepower) and D-242-71 (45.6 horsepower) engines. With these engines, the specific fuel consumption of the technician is 245 g/kW per hour.
YuMZ-6 develops a speed of 24.5 km/h with a mass of 3.2 tons. The maximum slope overcome by this technique cannot exceed 10 degrees.
Tractor dimensions: height – 2750 mm, width – 1884 mm, length – 4140 mm. The model's wheelbase is 2450 mm, ground clearance is 645 mm (rear wheels) and 450 mm (front wheels), turning radius is 5000 mm.
