All about Lynx walk-behind tractors: scope of application, features and varieties
Motoblocks "Lynx" are fully mechanized devices belonging to the category of heavy agricultural machinery. They demonstrate extreme endurance when used on large landholdings - an area of 10 acres or more. Indispensable in homestead farming, where they functionally replace several agricultural implements at once - hiller, potato digger, harrow, truck, snow blower, utility vehicle, etc.
All this is achieved by installing auxiliary attachments thanks to which Lynx monoblocks are capable of:
- loosen and plow the surface layer of soil;
- remove unwanted vegetation mechanically;
- level the territory;
- apply and incorporate mineral and organic fertilizers;
- mow down herbaceous and shrub cenoses in cultural landscapes;
- hill up agricultural crops;
- remove snow and ice;
- harvest root crops;
- sow and embed grain, leguminous, small-seeded and vegetable crops into the soil;
- transport goods over distances (mainly weighing up to half a ton).
"Pros" of the Lynx walk-behind tractor:
- high-quality and wear-resistant spare parts of a unified type;
- durable belt drive;
- two-dimensional steering column adjustment;
- competitive indicators of plowing width and depth – up to 100 cm and 36 cm, respectively;
- the most complete set, allowing you to begin cultivating the land immediately after purchase;
- ideal suitability for large areas and soils of any granulometric composition;
- compatibility with additional attachments for multi-purpose use of equipment.
The Lynx walk-behind tractors are not without their shortcomings. The main one is the presence of a belt pulley. Despite its low cost and low lubrication requirements, it requires replacement and additional maintenance more often than other types of gears.
Other “cons”, according to customer reviews, include:
- lack of differential locking – unequal load on the wheel part makes it difficult to turn the cultivator;
- the headlight is unsuitable for working at night.
All Lynx walk-behind tractors can be classified into:
- Lightweight – with power up to 7 hp;
- Heavy - develop from 7 to 10 hp;
- Super heavy - generate a force of 13-16 hp.
Operating Instructions
The operating rules for the unit are similar to the rules for using any gasoline walk-behind tractor with a four-stroke engine. An important period of operation is the running-in period, which is preceded by the assembly of the machine and its first start-up. Assembly is carried out according to the instructions included in the kit.
Run-in
Break-in lasts about 20-25 hours. During this period, all node connections of the unit, as well as the engine and gearbox, undergo so-called running-in. During this period, the machine must not be overloaded.
Before each start, check the fuel and oil levels in the gearbox and engine. Run-in is considered complete after 8 operating hours. At the end of the break-in, the remaining oil and fuel should be drained and the unit refilled with fresh fuel.
Walk-behind tractor maintenance
High-class semi-synthetic oils are recommended for gasoline engines, for example, 10W30 (if the air temperature is above 5 degrees Celsius); at low temperatures, choose high-class synthetic oil, for example, 5W40 from any well-known manufacturer.
Machine oil SAE 10W30
Suitable gear oil: 85W90 or similar viscosity. Fuel: high-octane gasoline of local brands.
Main malfunctions and their elimination:
- The engine does not start (you should check the fuel and oil levels, the position of the fuel valve and the engine switch).
- The spark plug does not fire (adjust the gaps or replace the spark plug).
- When the walk-behind tractor is operating, extraneous sounds and noise are heard (adjust the carburetor).
- Thick smoke and a burning smell appears (check the quality of the fuel, whether there is an oil leak, whether there are oil stains on the gearbox - if so, contact service).
Basic rules for caring for a walk-behind tractor:
- Follow the operating instructions and inspect the walk-behind tractor for minor damage before each work.
- Clean the outer surface of the engine and cylinder fins from dirt and plant debris.
- Clean the cutters regularly after cultivation.
- At each scheduled technical inspection (after 50 engine hours of operation and the next 50), add oil to the engine and gearbox, change the air and fuel filters.
Such equipment must be stored in a room with a positive temperature. Use only high-quality oils and fuel, so the engine will last longer without breakdowns.
Recommendations for use
To ensure maximum service life of the unit, it is necessary to study the description of the model and follow the recommendations for its care, undergo periodic and hourly maintenance
Particular attention should be paid to running-in equipment after its purchase.
Running in is necessary to increase the reliability and endurance of all parts of the walk-behind tractor and adapt it to operating conditions.
Run-in is carried out as follows:
- The first 25 hours of operation are the period of running-in of its parts and assemblies. Overload during this period is unacceptable.
- Assemble the unit.
- Check fasteners and screw connections.
- Start work only after the engine has warmed up. Let the engine idle, only then proceed to a gentle load.
- Tillage is carried out in 2 steps to a depth of no more than 10 cm in 1 pass. Cultivation is best done in second gear.
- Do not allow the walk-behind tractor engine to operate with the gear engaged and the clutch disengaged.
- The run-in lasts about 8 hours.
- At the end of the work, inspect the consumables, fill in new fuel if necessary, change the oil filters.
If the running-in process is carried out correctly, the walk-behind tractor is ready for maximum loads the next day.
Basic faults and repairs
The operating instructions for Lynx walk-behind tractors contain recommendations for maintenance, as well as guidelines for carrying out repair measures in the event of malfunctions. Let's consider the main problems faced by all users of Belarusian-made walk-behind tractors.
- The engine will not start.
- The cause of this problem may be an insufficient fuel level, or it is stale (remained in the tank after a storage period). Fill the tank with fresh fuel, after draining the old gasoline.
- The engine crankcase is low on engine oil (add it if necessary).
- The filters (fuel, air) are dirty. They must be thoroughly cleaned or replaced with new ones.
- The spark plug does not work: carbon deposits have formed on the spark plug, or the gap between the electrodes has changed. Clean or replace the faulty spark plug, adjust the ignition system.
The motor is unstable for the following reasons:
- gasoline is dirty or contains water impurities (you need to empty the tank and fill with fresh, clean fuel);
- the contacts of the ignition system wires are coming off (inspect the electrical wiring, fix or replace damaged cables);
- debris has entered the carburetor (you should disassemble the unit, remove the dirt, wipe the parts with gasoline, assemble it and install it in place).
The cutters do not spin - this is due to damage or wear to the drive belt, which will need to be replaced with a new one.
About the advantages of Lynx walk-behind tractors
Motoblocks of this brand have an attractive price, and in this parameter can successfully compete in the market with similar products from other Chinese manufacturing companies. They are also quite simple and unpretentious in direct use; they do not require special care or attention.
The Lynx walk-behind tractor has good efficiency indicators: during operation, its engine consumes about one and a half liters of fuel per hour of operation.
The handles are located conveniently, and the rotating nature of the handle allows you to use the walk-behind tractor in any, even the most inaccessible places. The steering column adjustment is two-chamber. The belt drive of Lynx walk-behind tractors, despite all the seeming frivolity, shows itself to be of high quality, unpretentious and durable in operation. The basic configuration of the Lynx walk-behind tractor allows you to immediately begin cultivating your plot by loosening the soil with cutters immediately after purchasing it. The unit is well suited for easy equipping with the widest range of additional attachments and trailed equipment that is possible for use with a walk-behind tractor.
They praise both the compactness and transportability of the Lynx walk-behind tractor: the ability to easily and simply detach the steering column and fold the unit into the back of an average passenger car.
The Lynx walk-behind tractors work effectively with soils of the most varied composition and structure. It is best, of course, in those areas where the land is cultivated annually. On hard soils and lands similar in their characteristics to virgin or meadow soils, for normal operation additional weighting agents and (or) lugs on wheels are certainly required.

About mounted and trailed equipment for motor-blocks "Lynx"
Milling cutter
It is the basic attachment for the Lynx walk-behind tractor, which is already included in the standard factory delivery package. The milling cutter is used for high-quality loosening of the top fertile layer of soil, giving it uniformity and increasing productivity. The curved blades of the cutter literally turn the ground into “fluff” and also rid the top layer of soil of the roots and rhizomes of weeds, tearing them out of the ground and grinding them. Lynx walk-behind tractors can work with cutters with a working width of 120 cm or 150 cm (more powerful models).
Plow
If it is impossible to immediately begin cultivation with cutters, then you can cultivate dense soils using a plow. During the plowing process, a track is made, after which one wheel is placed in it, the required level of immersion of the plow is set, and systematic plowing is carried out.
Mowers
Lynx walk-behind tractors can work effectively with rotary mowers. They are installed in front of the walk-behind tractor and allow you to cut high and medium-sized grass.
Hillers
They are used for hilling potatoes and other crops planted in rows, as well as for inter-row cultivation and weeding of the garden. Potatoes are a very demanding crop, the care work for which is greatly facilitated with the help of hillers.
Potato digger and potato planter
Planting and, in particular, harvesting potatoes has always been labor-intensive. This additional equipment is used to automate this process. The potato planter is made according to the following design: in front there is a plow that makes a trench, and in the back there is a special device with a tank, from which potatoes are taken using a conveyor belt and planted in the soil. At the back of the unit, this homemade trench is dug using two hillers.
The potato digger with the Lynx walk-behind tractor is of the screening type. It has a knife in front that cuts the layer of soil and directs it to the screen, where it breaks, leaving potato roots on the surface.
Snowblowers and shovels
If desired, you can force the Lynx walk-behind tractor to work in winter. He will be able to help in clearing areas of snow. To do this, two versions of snow removal equipment can be attached to it. In particular, a snow blower is a special bucket that picks up a layer of snow and directs it to a rotor, which spins it and throws it to the side. A more budget-friendly option is a shovel blade, which simply moves the snow to the side.
Lugs and weights
As standard, any Lynx walk-behind tractor comes with fairly high-quality tires with off-road tread, which provide reliable grip on the surface when cultivating light soils.
However, when cultivating heavy meadow and virgin lands, the walk-behind tractor may begin to slip, slip and “jump” out of the furrow. To improve its adhesion to the soil and optimize the progress of the walk-behind tractor, additional installation of weights and (or) lugs is used.
The weights used are those made in the form of pancakes, and they are hung on the wheel axle.
Trailers
With the help of Lynx walk-behind tractors, you can transport cargo weighing up to 500 kilograms over short distances if you use a special trailer.
Adapter
The main disadvantage of any walk-behind tractor is that you have to stand behind it. Because of this, fatigue sets in quickly, and this puts increased stress on the back (especially in the lumbar region). In order to eliminate this detrimental effect on health, you can use a special adapter that connects to the walk-behind tractor from the back and makes it possible to operate it while sitting. To work with a trailer you also need an adapter.
Application area
The joint Russian-Belarusian company is engaged in the production of walk-behind tractors, which are heavy and powerful gasoline-powered agricultural devices. This technique can be used both on communal farms and farms, as well as on personal plots of land with an area of ten acres or more for, for example, planting potatoes with a walk-behind tractor. The versatility of agricultural technology significantly expands the scope of its operation.
Trailers, canopies and agricultural equipment for the Lynx equipment are purchased separately - only cutters for cultivation are supplied in the kit. Installing additional attachments for the Lynx walk-behind tractor allows you to perform a full cycle of gardening and gardening work:
- Adding fertilizers to the soil.
- Mowing grass.
- Plowing the land.
- Planting and digging up root crops.
- Snow removal during the cold season.
- Hilling up plantings.
- Harvesting hay.
- Adding compost.
- Cultivation.
- Transportation of large-size cargo.
Year-round work on such equipment is ensured by the high technical characteristics of the Lynx walk-behind tractors, produced in Russia and Belarus. Thanks to agricultural technology of this brand, gardeners, professional agronomists and farmers can significantly facilitate agricultural work and mechanize it.
An important advantage of this technology is the ability to combine it with a large number of attachments, which allows you to increase functionality and expand the scope of application. The Lynx walk-behind tractors, equipped with various attachments, can cope with almost any agricultural task.
About the disadvantages of Lynx walk-behind tractors
Among the disadvantages of walk-behind tractors of this brand, a fairly significant vibration load is often mentioned, which comes from the transmission elements to the manual controls of the equipment.
No major breakdowns were noted by any of the owners of walk-behind tractors of this brand during the first 2-3 seasons of their operation. In any case, they do not report such cases. But due to small things, the Lynx walk-behind tractor breaks down quite often and a lot.
Often the point here is that the quality of the metal from which it itself and some of its spare parts are made leaves much to be desired (which, as you know, is not uncommon for Chinese technology). It’s good that spare parts for this equipment are quite cheap, but in the event of a really major breakdown (for example, the engine “flies”), it will be cheaper to purchase a new walk-behind tractor.
By the way, during operation it is necessary to ensure that the engine does not overheat. If you work in the heat, at temperatures above 25 degrees, the motor begins to overheat quite quickly and at the same time loses its power.
Also, the quality of welds is not always what it should be. One of the owners of the Lynx walk-behind tractor broke off the coulter mount during the first attempt to plow dense virgin soil.
According to the owners of Lynx walk-behind tractors, the belt pulley, despite its cheapness and low lubrication requirements, still needs replacement and additional maintenance more often than other types of gears.
Another drawback, according to reviews from buyers of walk-behind tractors of this brand, is the lack of a differential locking function - the unequal and uneven load on the chassis and wheel complicates the maneuverability and turning of the cultivator.
Often, during operation, engine oil begins to ooze and gradually leak from the engine and (or) transmission of the walk-behind tractor.
When working with a mower, you have to independently make a homemade protective shield in front of the engine, otherwise, while mowing the grass, the dust flies off and quickly sticks to the engine, including clogging the ventilation holes.
To extend the service life of Lynx walk-behind tractors, it is advised not to forget that the durability of each technical device is determined by careful care for it, as well as regular inspection and maintenance.
The walk-behind tractor must be run in under minimal loads, during the first eight hours of its operation, so that the parts get used to each other properly. Since the build quality of Lynx walk-behind tractors is not always of decent quality (most often, on the contrary, it is quite careless), before starting to operate a new walk-behind tractor, you need to check the tightness of all bolt and screw ties, and do the same again after the break-in is completed.
It is necessary to strictly monitor the oil level and change the engine oil and air filters on time.
How to extend the service life of Lynx cultivators?
The durability of each technical product is determined by careful care and regular maintenance.
In order for this walk-behind tractor to serve well, it is necessary:
- study the description of a specific model in detail and comply with all the manufacturer’s requirements set out in the user manual;
- start work only after checking the serviceability of its working units;
- Fill the unit with gasoline with an octane rating of at least 92;
- use oils recommended by the manufacturer - for example, for the spring-summer period - Briggs & Stratton SAE 30, OREGON 10W40 or Viking HD 10 W-30 - for winter.
Special attention should be paid to running-in - breaking-in of spare parts, which is only relevant for newly acquired completely new Lynx walk-behind tractors. This period lasts about 8 hours and should increase the reliability of connections and adapt the walk-behind tractor to operation.
The running-in process begins with assembling the structure in accordance with the operating instructions, after which:
- tighten bolt and screw ties;
- Warm up the engine for several minutes, after which the idle speed is replaced by a light load;
- Gradually load the cultivator, allowing it to cultivate the soil to a shallow depth (up to 10 cm). To do this, it is advisable to engage second gear;
- It is unacceptable to operate at speed with the clutch disengaged.
After break-in, check the oil level, change oil filters, add fuel and begin full-time work.

What are they and what do their owners say about their specific experience of using them?
Attachments
With the help of additional attachments it is possible to increase the functionality of your unit.
Plow
The plow is used to cultivate the land after harvesting or before sowing.
There are standard plows and reversible ones. While working with a walk-behind tractor, make the first bed level, then place one wheel in this rut and continue plowing. This will make the work much easier.
Milling cutters
If the plow cannot cope and you have to work with hard virgin soils, where there are a large number of weeds and solid objects, then it is better to use cutters to mix the soil. They are saber-shaped and crow's feet shaped.
Snow plow
With a little modernization of the unit, it can be converted into a snow blower. As a cheaper option, you can simply attach a shovel blade - a curved sheet of steel - that will effectively shovel snow and, if necessary, other bulk materials.
Lugs
Grousers
When working with heavy soils, the attachment often jumps over and forms uncultivated areas of the ground. You can replace regular wheels with lug wheels.
Weights
Weights
The second solution to this problem may be to increase the weight of the structure. For this, special weighting agents are used. In the factory version, these are steel pancakes that are attached to wheels, but you can also use improvised means.
Caterpillars
Crawler attachment
When carrying out winter work, the main problem is adhesion to the surface. Therefore, to improve the effect, you can replace pneumatic tires with tracks
When choosing tracks, you need to pay attention to their width. The larger it is, the better the grip on the surface.
Adapter
Universal adapter
The main inconvenience for the operator during work is the fact that the equipment has to be operated while standing. When using an adapter, you can make a driver's seat. Adapters are an intermediate link between the hitch of the walk-behind tractor and the attachment to it.
Wheels
Additionally, you can install more powerful, wider wheels on the Lynx. Factory assembly involves installing wheels with sizes 4.00-10 on the unit.
Wheels 4.00-10
Components of the Lynx walk-behind tractor:
- walk-behind tractor in packaging;

Features of operation
To increase the service life of these devices, they must be properly looked after and periodically carried out maintenance. Before leaving for the site, you need to check the presence of oil in the engine and fuel in the tank. It is also worth visually assessing the condition of the machine and checking that the equipment is secure before each departure. After 25 hours of operation on the device, it is necessary to completely change the engine oil and use the 10W-30 composition, which is recommended by the manufacturer. The transmission oil is changed only 2 times a year.
Criteria for selecting walk-behind tractors
This unit costs a lot of money, so before purchasing you should definitely familiarize yourself with the main functions and choose a model based on the work for which the tool is selected. Studying the model range and its features will help you avoid purchasing low-quality or unsuitable tools. It is better to purchase expensive but high-quality equipment once than to have it repaired every year.
Types of walk-behind tractors
Walk-behind tractors are divided into four categories:
Ultralight.
From the name it is clear that this is a very light device, weighing no more than 20 kilograms. This type is excellent for working in a small area for loosening the land. It is manufactured in two versions: it requires oil or gasoline for refueling.
Lungs.
Such a device weighs no more than 40 kilograms and is designed to work on an area of about 60 acres. Suitable for almost any earthwork. They are most often used for cultivating light soil, as they are not powerful enough for other forms of soil.
Average.
It is a mid-level model, weighing no more than 60 kilograms. Most effectively copes with an area of up to 1 hectare. As a rule, such devices have forward and reverse gears, which allows them to be used for plowing land.
Heavy.
The most powerful and dimensional models. One device is enough to treat an area of up to 4 hectares. It has the greatest functionality and is suitable for most types of work. When choosing this model, it is worth considering the terrain, area and type of work for which the tool is purchased. The manufacturer independently indicates the weight of his invention, so this unit does not have a single measure.

- Fuel type - AI-92.
- The car has a fuel tank with a capacity of 7 liters.
If we take into account the fact that the device consumes gasoline quite economically, the owner will not have to think about refueling once again or worry about overheating of the Lynx walk-behind tractor.
Technical characteristics of walk-behind tractor 9:
- Engine – 170F.
- The capacity of the oil tank is 0.9 l.
- Electric starter is missing.
How to remove the engine from a walk-behind tractor
To dismantle the power plant, the walk-behind tractor is placed on a flat surface and cleaned of dirt. The protective shield is removed, the accelerator cable is disconnected from the carburetor plate. Then the bolts that secure the bracket for installing attachments are loosened, and the drive belt stop pins are loosened. The 4 screws securing the engine are unscrewed. The motor turns to the left.
The belt is removed from the crankshaft pulley. After this, the power plant is considered disconnected from the chassis. If necessary, you can replace fasteners. In some models, to facilitate access to the bolts securing the motor to agricultural equipment, the wings are first removed.
Engine Installation
When installing the engine on a walk-behind tractor, you need to be careful and follow the sequence of actions. Errors will lead to a decrease in the operating life of the unit, rapid wear of parts and cause problems. The following conditions must be met:
- correctly transmit torque from the power plant to the transmission;
- accurately attach the motor to the gearbox or walk-behind tractor frame;
There are special installation kits that help avoid errors when assembling equipment. Such sets consist of the following parts:
- Transition plate. Inserted between the engine and gearbox.
- Hubs. Installed on the engine crankshaft.
- Fastening elements. Provide reliable fixation of the power plant.
When using such a kit, you need to perform a sequence of two actions - secure the motor to the mounting plate and put the pulley on the crankshaft. With the help of such a kit, it is easy to install the engine on walk-behind tractors of both domestic and foreign production.
