The special design of the folding (down) radiator protection panel, with built-in steps, provides the driver with a service platform for servicing the vehicle. The hood can be lifted up 90 degrees, providing easy access to the engine compartment. All lubrication points and remote drainage points for operating fluids are accessible from ground level or from non-slip platforms.

Depending on operating conditions, Volvo articulated dump trucks can be equipped with all kinds of additional equipment. Volvo A35F dump truck engine

The Volvo A35F truck is equipped with a D13H-A engine. This is a six-cylinder in-line diesel engine with a turbocharger and electronic control. The strengths of these engines are high torque at low speeds, fuel efficiency, serious power and throttle response, which extend the life of the power unit.

The working volume of this engine is 12.8 liters (12800 cm³). The maximum torque is 2359.1 N.m (at speeds of 1200…1400 rpm). Cylinder diameter – 131 mm, piston stroke – 158 mm. Maximum speed – 2100 rpm.

The cylinder head is monoblock, there are four valves for each cylinder, so the total number of valves is 24 pcs. The design of this engine uses individual pump injectors. The Volvo D13 engine is equipped with a modern EMS (Engine Management System) control unit. It controls all processes of diesel fuel injection into the cylinders and displays all the necessary information about the engine (engine oil level, coolant temperature, instantaneous and average fuel consumption, concentration of nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gases) on the driver’s dashboard display.

The CCV (Closed Crankcase Ventilation) crankcase ventilation system is used. It traps oil vapors in the exhaust gases under the valve cover, which contributes to better cleaning of the engine oil. Therefore, oil changes for this engine can be done at intervals of “every 100 thousand km.”

The oil pump, power steering, high-performance air compressor and fuel pump are gear driven. They are compactly located at the rear of the engine. The water pump, fan, generator and belt-driven air conditioning compressor are located at the front of the engine.

The D13H-A engine's gross power is 333.3 kW (453 hp). Its effective power is 324.4 kW (441 hp). These power figures were measured at 1900 rpm. The compression ratio (compression) is 18.1:1. To ensure that the engine achieves the standards of modern environmental requirements, an exhaust gas recirculation system (EGR - Exhaust Gas Recirculation) and SCR (exhaust gas recycling system using selective catalytic reduction technology with urea) were built into its design.

It is impossible not to mention the VEB engine brake. This is not a new thing on Volvo trucks, but its capabilities on a truck of this model are really quite serious, and this thing is certainly necessary and useful.

The engine is combined with a torque converter, which is equipped with a locking function. And also - a fully automatic adaptive gearbox. The shafts, planetary gears and bearings are reinforced to withstand the high torque generated by the large displacement motor.

The engines of F-series trucks are more environmentally friendly and also more economical than the engines of the previous E-series. This result can be considered an outstanding achievement, taking into account the fact that the power units of the E-series were already leaders in this segment in terms of diesel fuel consumption.

Prospects

This gearbox is part of Volvo's specially designed Powertronic planetary transmission. It has a locking function that guarantees fully automatic, precise and smooth gear selection. Steering and brakes

The steering system is designed to provide high steering force even at low engine speeds in the most challenging operating conditions. Hydraulic shock absorption prevents impacts and impacts from being transmitted to the steering wheel and the driver's hands. This system also ensures precise steering and directional stability during high-speed road driving, eliminating the need for the driver to steer.

In the loading or unloading position, the driver presses one button, which automatically applies the main brake and places the transmission in neutral. Then, the next time a gear is selected, this function is deactivated, releasing the brake.

Suspension and chassis

The car has a dependent front suspension. Structurally, it is a beam fixed to the frame part using longitudinal arms and rods. The rear axle is made one-piece and integrated with the frame via A-type trailing arms and transverse rods.

Constant use of all-wheel drive mode leads to increased diesel fuel consumption, wear of tires, mechanical components and transmission parts. The ATC system automatically disables rear wheel drive when it is not needed. This prevents wheel drift when turning and reduces tire wear.

And when the ATC system detects wheel slip, it engages the longitudinal differential lock and the all-wheel drive clutch. As a result, the heavy dump truck maintains optimal traction under all conditions.

F series trucks are equipped with 4 differential locks with a cam clutch: 1 – longitudinal, in the power take-off box + three – transverse, in the axles. This design solution improves traction on bad roads. The combination of these locks ensures that all wheels rotate at the same speed for improved traction under severe operating conditions. A heavy dump truck becomes easier to drive, and its performance increases.

ShSS in the vastness of the former Union

In the early 2000s, domestic automakers tried to establish production of articulated dump trucks. He became a pioneer in this direction. The company’s specialists developed two models of articulated dump trucks with a lifting capacity of 16 and 25 tons, however, this type of construction truck was never put into mass production. In 2013, the company decided to implement the idea of ​​its own production of articulated dump trucks. Soon, the S-33, a dump truck created at the site of Promtractor OJSC, rolled off the production line of the enterprise. This model is quite acceptable for domestic buyers. Perhaps construction companies are already spoiled by similar equipment from Komatsu, John Deere and Volvo. However, their cost cannot be compared with CHETRA products.
