Delivery trucks bearing the Volvo brand are well known to Muscovites. Every day, dozens of cars deliver hundreds of tons of Coca and Pepsi to stores and warehouses. These bright red cars have become familiar on Moscow roads and no longer cause surprise and heightened curiosity among onlookers, as they did a few years ago.
Not everyone knows that in the 15 years since this model went into production, about 113,000 FL6 series trucks have left the factory gates, and in the last year alone, carriers in 52 countries have become owners of these vehicles. Considering that 15 years is a sufficient period to produce a model with virtually no changes, Volvo Trucks presented to the public a new vehicle of the FL6 series.
CABIN
The cabin dimensions have remained almost unchanged. From the outside, the new front bumper, radiator grille trim, top and side spoilers, and the fifth mirror above the windshield, showing the distance to the front bumper, immediately catch the eye. An optional front underrun guard is installed behind the front bumper. The machine can be equipped with either one or two stages. Two steps provide more convenient and safe entry and exit into the cabin.
Inside, the FL6 is very similar to its older brothers FH and FM: the same instrument panel, steering column adjustable in height and tilt, information display. An optional airbag is installed in the steering column.
ENGINE
The six-cylinder diesel engine with electronic fuel control develops power of 180, 220 and 250 hp. Depending on the version, it can meet Euro-2 or Euro-3 requirements. For the Euro-3 version you have to sacrifice increased fuel consumption compared to the Euro-2 version.
CHASSIS
The presence of air springs with electronic floor level adjustment in the rear axle suspension makes loading and unloading more convenient. Vehicles with a total weight of 14 to 18 tons can also have air springs in the front suspension. The steering angle of the front wheels is 52°, which will be appreciated by drivers who are forced to demonstrate their slalom skills on city streets all day long.
New disc brakes on all wheels, borrowed from the FH series, reduce stopping distances by 30% during emergency braking at a speed of 80 km/h. The service life of the brake pads has been increased to 80,000 km.
The total weight of the Volvo FL6 is from 7.5 to 26 tons. The truck can be equipped with six types of manual transmissions and three types of automatic transmissions. The interval between maintenance has been increased to 40,000 km or every six months.
I still couldn’t find the answer to the question: is the FL6 a new car or a deep modernization of the previous version. It is quite possible that drivers delivering the overseas drink will best answer this question, if, of course, the companies that produce it purchase these cars in the foreseeable future.

Vehicle interior
There are three cabin options:
- standard or daytime;
- increased comfort, equipped with one sleeping place;
- a seven-seater cabin, almost three meters long.
Since the beginning of production, the cars have been equipped with a cabin (Eurotrotter), characterized by a higher roof, where the sleeping places are located on two tiers. For the convenience and safety of truck operation, video cameras are installed on them.
The urban cabin package includes:
- electric device for raising side windows;
- car central locking system;
- installation of climate control in the cabin (optional).
The improved urban version of the Volvo FL10 Vocational, in addition to the listed equipment, includes illuminated running boards, electrically heated mirrors, rubber mats and other options. The driver's seat is equipped with improved shock absorption. The smoothly curved cab design is highly aerodynamically efficient and reduces fuel consumption. Design
The Volvo FL7 looks like a classic European truck. Its compactness does not prevent it from making an unforgettable impression on the city streets. Smooth, streamlined shapes harmonize with the impressively sized radiator grille. The visually larger windshield creates a low-slung effect that makes the truck feel closer to the ground and less intimidating.
Carefully thought out lines, graphic elements and signature V-shaped headlights make the car elegant, but at the same time recognizable. But the smoothly curved exterior details create more than just a spectacular look. They improve handling and reduce fuel consumption, reducing the overall resistance of the truck to oncoming air flows. The radiator grille with honeycomb-shaped cells looks original and creates conditions for effective engine cooling. Every detail of the body is thought out to the smallest detail.

Salon Volvo FL7
The spacious cabin is distinguished by its ergonomic design in a minimalist style. Like the outside, the interior details have smooth curved lines - but that's not the main thing. The control panel, instruments and sensors, gear lever, glove compartment and various niches - everything is located where you intuitively want to find them. The interior design is made with the goal that everything necessary is always at hand for the driver, and he is less distracted while traveling.
The ergonomic seat made of soft woven upholstery gently envelops the driver in its embrace and does not want to let go. To increase safety, the belt has been integrated into the backrest, and the fastenings have been strengthened and are now made of high-strength steel. Sitting on such a chair, you do not need to reach either the audio system or the controls - everything is at hand.
Chassis
The basis of the Volvo FL7 truck is a spar frame structure made of steel. The cabin is attached to it through a rubber support (front) and a telescopic shock absorber with a cylindrical spring (rear). This creates additional conditions for the comfort of the driver and passenger.
The front suspension of the car is represented by dependent designs with parabolic springs or with pneumatic elements. At the rear, a shortened or reinforced system was installed on leaf springs, or, just like at the front, an air suspension was installed.
The steering mechanism is classic for trucks of this class, equipped with a hydraulic booster. The brakes look more original against its background. The standard ABS mechanism and electronic braking system are not surprising. But ventilated brake discs, which practically do not heat up while stopping, please with their service life.
Engine and gearbox Volvo FL7
The iron heart is the 7.2-liter Deutz D7E diesel powerplant. It has 6 cylinders arranged in a row, a direct fuel injection system, and a combined lubrication mechanism. Under rated load, the engine produces from 240 to 295 hp.
With broad, smooth torque and strong low-end response, the engine provides easy handling at both low and high speeds. The maximum torque is from 940 to 1050 Nm, which eliminates the need for frequent gear changes when traveling around the city.
The Deutz D7E is paired with a 6- or 9-speed ZF manual transmission. It is possible to purchase a truck with a 6-speed Allison automatic transmission. Both gearboxes transmit all power from the engine to the rear axle. However, some versions have the ability to connect the front axle.
A special feature of the transmission system is the power take-off, which was supplied at the request of the customer. It transmits power from the engine to a variety of attachments and adapts the vehicle to different operating conditions.
