Single-axle tractors MAZ-529B, MAZ-529G, MAZ-529D and MAZ-529E are made on the basis of the MAZ-529V tractor and differ from it in purpose, technical characteristics and a number of additional components and mechanisms. Therefore, only the single-axle MAZ-529V tractor is described in detail, and only additional information is provided for the other models.

Normal operation of a single-axle tractor is possible only if it is constantly maintained in technically sound condition and in compliance with the operating rules given in this Manual. First of all, you should carefully and in detail study the design of the tractor and the features of care and operation.

When operating the tractor, pay special attention to the following points:

1. It is necessary to carry out timely and complete maintenance of the tractor. 2. Normal and reliable operation of the tractor is ensured when using fuel, oils, working and cooling fluids specified in this Manual. It is prohibited to use contaminated or inappropriate types of fuel, oils, working and cooling fluids to avoid rapid failure of the tractor. H. The tractor is equipped with hydraulically driven steering, the efficiency of which does not depend on the amount of force on the steering wheel. Therefore, when driving, only the force necessary to turn the steering wheel should be applied. Excessive force may result in destruction of steering parts. 4. If, while driving, for some reason the engine suddenly stops, you should, without turning off the power transmission, brake the tractor, find out and eliminate the malfunction. Disabling the power transmission from the engine is unacceptable, as in this case the tractor will lose control and an accident may occur. 5. For a single-axle MAZ-529G tractor with a load (with a total weight of the road train of 57,400 kg), the maximum speed on a flat paved road should not exceed 5 km/h. It is prohibited to operate the MAZ-529GS tractor under load (with a total weight of the road train exceeding 47,000 kg) on ​​unpaved roads. 6. Tractors designed to work with scrapers and other road-building machines must undergo an operational run-in at the beginning of operation during the first 1000 km (including factory run-in). 7. If the tractor works with a scraper, then a pusher should be used when collecting soil. It is recommended to use a crawler tractor with a power of at least 80-100 hp. With. It is prohibited to collect soil with a tractor (without using a pusher), as this will lead to its premature failure. 8. It is prohibited to use first gear when operating the tractor with a scraper while collecting soil, as this will lead to rapid failure of the gearbox. It is allowed to use first gear in exceptional cases and only for a short time.

The MAZ-529V tractor is a wheeled traction vehicle with one axle and is designed for towing various transport semi-trailer units. The semi-trailer unit is a functional extension of the tractor, without which it cannot be used.

What does the "Shield of the Motherland" ride on?

Initially, the entire chassis of the Minsk automakers was “built” around the rocket - the designers listened carefully to the requirements of the military and took them into account to the maximum extent. A striking example is the legend of the Russian Armed Forces, the 543 series chassis. In 1961, to launch the Temp OTR, the MAZ-543 was created by order of the military; since then, after repeated upgrades, this time-tested model has not left the production line. And apparently, it will be produced for a long time, the design turned out to be so successful. Even road trains were produced on the basis of this chassis.

The first four-axle vehicle with an 8x8 wheel arrangement was the MAZ-535 with a carrying capacity of up to 10 tons. Minsk designers made a revolution in the automotive industry. The car featured a hydromechanical transmission, semi-automatic gear shifting without power interruption, torsion bar independent suspension, centralized tire inflation, seven differentials in the power drive system and much more, which had no analogues in the world.

In newsreels of the late 50s and early 60s, you can see how Minsk MAZs in parade formation carried models of formidable Soviet missiles across Red Square.

Minsk residents began creating a special wheeled chassis MZKT-7930 with the 8x8 formula (ROC “Astrologer”) in 1989 after the approval of the technical specifications by the USSR Ministry of Defense. The chassis with a single three-seater cabin and improved ergonomics was supposed to replace the MAZ-543 special vehicle. The new product was tested at the Kapustin Yar missile test site, test tracks of the military research institute of automotive technology, and on public roads. After the sample ran 30 thousand kilometers, it was tested in a climate chamber at minus 60 degrees, and then “blown” in a wind tunnel to evaluate the vehicle’s resistance to shock waves.

After completing the test cycle, the state commission recommended the chassis for adoption and serial production. Today, this family of automotive traction vehicles enjoys special respect among rocket scientists.

Their base houses the Iskander OTRK, the Bal and Bastion DBKs, the Club-M DBK, the Uragan-1M and Polonaise MLRS, the Monolit-B coastal surface and air reconnaissance complex, and the air defense missile system antenna posts. S-400 "Triumph", heavy mechanized bridge TMM-6. The Belarusian army is entering service with the Polonaise missile system on the same wheelbase with a 500-horsepower YaMZ engine.

A prototype of a special wheeled chassis was created in 1990, and the product of Belarusian automakers went into production eight years later. The chassis entered service with the Russian Army in 2003. In 2016, we celebrated a landmark event - the thousandth product rolled off the assembly line.

At the end of the 80s, the Topol missile systems entered service with the USSR Strategic Missile Forces, which were mounted on the MZKT-7917 chassis (seven-axle).

Eight-axle 80-ton chassis MAZ-7922 “Bison” and MAZ-7923 “Bison” were also produced, equipped with an electromechanical transmission and an 800-horsepower YaMZ engine, and the full technical characteristics of these machines are still unknown to the general public. The curb weight of such a tractor is 44 tons, and it carries a decent load - 80 tons.

The tractor's power plant consists of an engine and its servicing systems: fuel supply system, air supply system, lubrication system, cooling system, starting system and exhaust system.

The tractors are equipped with YaAZ-M206A and YaAZ-M206G engines produced by the Yaroslavl Motor Plant. The engine is installed in the front of the tractor and is attached to the frame using rubber shock absorbers at three points: one at the front and two at the rear. The tractors are equipped with a modified air supply system, exhaust system and heating system.

Air supply system

On MAZ-5296, MAZ-529G and MAZ-529D tractors, the air supply system is equipped with a special system for sucking dust from engine air filters. A pipe is placed in the diffuser of the exhaust system pipe, which is connected to the engine air filters through a hose and pipe. When the engine is running, a vacuum is created in the system, due to which dust from the engine filters is sucked out and released into the atmosphere.

Exhaust system

On tractors MAZ-5296, MAZ-529V, MAZ-529G and MAZ-529D, the exhaust system is equipped with a spark arrester made integral with the muffler. The exhaust gases from the exhaust pipe enter the front part of the muffler tangentially to its body, due to which they swirl relative to the perforated pipe. Pressed against the muffler body during turbulence, the sparks are cooled, and then enter the perforated muffler pipe through the windows and are released into the atmosphere.

As a result, models and goods appeared on sale that could have been dispensed with in those days. The unusual MAZ 529 can be attributed to this segment.

This tractor was developed for use for various purposes. The list of its functions was very long. It could transport units for various purposes, including machines that clean runways. In addition, this tractor could transport road rollers. Just looking at the images of this development, you can see its interesting design. The fact is that the car has only one axle, to which a variety of mechanisms can be attached. A hook for additional equipment is provided at the rear of the axle.

The very first experimental tractor was assembled in 1959. Its development and production was carried out by the Minsk Automobile Plant. The wheel formula was presented in the form of 2x2. The tractor was equipped with an engine that ran on diesel fuel and had an output of 165 horsepower. The length of the body of this tractor is only 4.2 m, and the width is 2.95 m, as is the height. The weight of the unusual transport was only 9 tons. The maximum speed that the MAZ 529 could reach reached 40 km/h. In the cabin, the designers provided only one seat - for the driver.

Such machines became widespread in the armed forces of the USSR. Here they were used as transport for transporting missiles. The MAZ 529 model itself is one of the unusual and rarely found on earth. Nowadays such cars can no longer be found. They can only be found as monuments or exhibits in museums. Note that the Minsk Automobile Plant was engaged in the production of this model until 1973.

At the same time, the MZKT chassis was created taking into account the possibility of laying the drilling rig, lifting it into the working position and long-term drive of the drilling equipment from the engine.

As before, the plant has a partnership with the Galich Truck Crane Plant, where, along with the traditional production of 50–70-ton cranes, they have launched the production of hundred-ton cranes and have already successfully sold several machines. New items for crane installations of various lifting capacities appear annually in the VOLAT chassis line.

After the merger of the Lida company, the company discovered new competencies in the production of buses. Modern middle-class buses on the IVECO Daily chassis are in demand in both the Belarusian and Russian markets.

Along with the introduction and development of civilian products, the company remembers the main mission; the military direction of activity always remains a priority. The plant is making great efforts to improve and master the production of new military chassis. Thus, at the MILEX 2022 exhibition, the four-axle hull chassis MZKT-69225 as part of the Buk-MB3K air defense system was demonstrated, as well as the unique three-link tank transporter MZKT-741351, exported to the countries of the Middle East. As MZKT chief designer Vasily Buryan said, the MZKT-69225 chassis is now undergoing state tests, but it is already clear that the new product has promising export potential.

It should be noted that in the 21st century, Minsk automakers received ISO-9001 and ISO-2001 certificates, certifying the highest quality of company management and compliance with international quality standards.

MZKT products are known in many countries in the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Africa.

Concrete mixer trucks

MAZ vehicles are concrete mixer trucks.

There are about nine modifications of MAZ concrete mixer trucks.

Let's consider one modification - concrete mixer truck ABS-9 DA (MAZ 551605)

This MAZ vehicle has a mixing drum installed, which is made of high-strength steel.

Components for this vehicle are supplied from different countries. We won’t talk about the base, everything is clear here. The gearbox is made in Slovenia, the oil cooler is made in Germany, and the hydraulic drive is made in Ukraine, but again under license from the German company SAUER.

Thanks to this configuration, the ABS-9 DA concrete mixer truck based on the MAZ 551605 vehicle is one of the best in this line of vehicles.

Modularity as a principle

Nothing is impossible for Minsk automakers. At the MZKT facilities, at the customer’s request, it is possible to build any vehicle with the required wheel arrangement - from 4x4 to 16x16. At the same time, the equipment will be equipped with any engine - domestic or imported. All the customer’s wishes will be taken into account, and the car will be ready in six months. How is this achieved? The answer is simple - the modular design principle is in use here, many components are unified. The modules are the supporting system, the cabin, transmission units, elements of the suspension and braking systems. This allows us to design and produce cars with different wheelbases based on the same units with the least amount of money and time.

MZKT has maintained an excellent research and production base - 250 designers work plus 150 people in the factory research center, where any tests can be carried out. The structure of the enterprise includes 10 production workshops and three auxiliary ones, 25 functional departments and 10 departments. About 10–15 machines are created and modernized here every year.

When armored cars are in use

They produced all kinds of vehicles in Minsk, but they never worked on armored vehicles at MZKT. However, the State Committee for Military Industry of the republic developed a program for the creation and mass production of a family of armored combat vehicles on an all-terrain chassis, and the first-born was the lightly armored MZKT-490100. A Minsk-made armored fighting vehicle with a frame design on a traditional chassis. A special feature of this car model was an all-welded body made of armored steel and enhanced mine protection. The armor corresponds to the fourth class of protection, which allows the vehicle to transport personnel and weapons in conditions of increased terrorist danger. The range on one fill is one thousand kilometers.

Minsk residents equipped their armored fighting vehicle with a YaMZ-5345 turbodiesel with a volume of 4.4 liters, 240 horsepower and a hydromechanical gearbox. MZKT-490100 is an all-wheel drive vehicle with an independent double-wishbone spring suspension, which allows the vehicle to be used both in cities and in rural areas, and driving it in the mountains will not be a problem. The armored car is equipped with an on-board information system, with which you can monitor the status of chassis components and systems. The basic package includes a pre-heater, a filter-ventilation unit, smoke removal systems, centralized tire inflation, heated front and side armored glass and rear-view mirrors.

A prototype of the Belarusian armored car appeared in 2016; the public saw it for the first time at the Eurosatory exhibition in Paris.

After successfully passing the entire range of state tests in 2022, the armored car was adopted by the Belarusian army. During testing, the armored fighting vehicle covered 40 thousand kilometers, and the military was satisfied with the results obtained.

Based on the basic configuration, Minsk residents have developed a family of armored vehicles for various purposes. Versions have been created for the internal troops of the Republic of Belarus and the State Border Committee of Belarus.

It is clear that we will not consider all modifications of MAZ truck cranes in detail, but we will present a brief description in the form of a table for your consideration.

MAZ truck cranes are boom-type truck cranes. The base chassis, depending on the model, is configured in such a way that it is possible to work both in complete and semi-complete off-road conditions.

The fuel system of these cars is not picky about fuel quality, which is very important for countries such as Russia, Ukraine and other CIS countries. Also, the cost of MAZ truck cranes can compete with many domestic manufacturers.
