Various attachments for Agat-Salut walk-behind tractors.

Among small-sized garden equipment, the Agat walk-behind tractor produced by the Gavrilov-Yamsky Machine-Building Plant occupies a worthy place. The predecessor of modern units produced under this brand was the Salyut walk-behind tractor, which was maximally adapted to the conditions of domestic agricultural small enterprises. Today, the model range of Agat motor-cultivators is represented by six types of units, each of which competes with imported models in terms of technical and operational indicators.

The uniqueness of the equipment is that it performs a full cycle of gardening work and can be used for landscaping. Attachments were developed for the Agat walk-behind tractor, which made it possible to expand its functionality. Thanks to attachments, the cultivator can be transformed into a mini-tractor.

The following mounted installations are in demand in gardening:

  • plowing cutters;
  • lugs for hilling;
  • weights;
  • shovel attachment;
  • potato digger;
  • hiller;
  • weedweed;
  • cart;
  • plow.

Milling cutters

In the basic configuration, all models of the Agat walk-behind tractor have four tillers. To expand the grip during cultivation, an additional pair of cutters is installed. There are several types of such additional equipment:

  • "crow's feet";
  • saber cutters;
  • "Virgin soil".

Crow's feet are considered the most popular cutters due to their performance and pricing. This is a non-separable all-welded steel structure of increased strength, which allows you to cultivate virgin lands. It is important to remember that such attachments are only suitable for plowing and not weeding. Due to the blunt edges, when destroying weeds, grass and roots will wrap around the cutter, which ultimately complicates the operation of the entire unit.

In addition to loosening the soil, crow's feet are used to cultivate soil with large lumps. Most often, additional cutters are installed when preparing the soil for planting potatoes and other root crops. Another purpose of this attachment is to combat wireworms and other pests, including the Colorado potato beetle.

The base on Agat walk-behind tractors contains saber-shaped cutters. They are made exclusively from carbon steel. Installing additional attachments allows you to expand the soil cultivation area. Virgin wood cutters are distinguished by the spiral shape of their knives. Their main purpose is to cultivate unplowed land with deep cultivation. Thanks to the monolithic design, such cutters are not afraid of rocky soils. One of the disadvantages of virgin cutters is the raking of the earth to the sides, as a result of which a groove is formed at the passage site, which must be additionally filled.

The advantage of Agat walk-behind tractors is that most additional cutters, both domestic and imported, are suitable for this equipment. The interchangeability of attachments expands the functionality of cultivators.

Lugs

When processing heavy soils, instead of standard rubber pneumatic wheels, it is recommended to install lugs on walk-behind tractors. They provide traction to the ground and provide increased traction. This attachment is attached to the gearbox shaft. Typically, metal wheels with hook plates for the Agat walk-behind tractor are used together with a potato digger, hiller or plow.

Depending on the tasks assigned to the motor-cultivator, lugs of larger or smaller diameter are selected. The first ones are used during the second or third hilling to protect plants from damage during the advancement of the walk-behind tractor. Typically, lugs of 500-600 mm are chosen for these purposes. Wheels of smaller diameter are in demand when it is necessary to increase traction force and slow down the unit. Wheels with a diameter of 340-460 mm are suitable for first plowing and cutting beds.

Attachments

Agat walk-behind tractors are adapted to work with practically all types and varieties of attachments that are produced today in Russia and abroad. Using a power take-off shaft you can significantly expand the functionality of the unit.

The most commonly used attachments for walk-behind tractors are:

  1. Plow. As a rule, most models are equipped with plows. The weight and size of these products varies significantly depending on the characteristics of the agricultural work performed. Using a plow, you can make a furrow 20-30 cm deep. The plow is mainly used for raising virgin soil or plowing soil in abandoned areas.
  2. Milling cutter. All small agricultural machinery is equipped with this equipment. Cutters for walk-behind tractors loosen the soil to a depth of 20 cm. With their help, the soil is cultivated before planting seeds and tubers to remove the crust on its surface after drying.
  3. Mower. Various types of mowers are used to perform work in the field and in the yard. Rotary devices are equipped with durable knives. They are capable of cutting not only grass stems, but also bush branches. The equipment is equipped with a device that allows you to lay grass in windrows. Centrifugal mowers (trimmers) are designed to perform delicate work on landscaping the local area.
  4. Dump. It is an analogue of a blade blade that is installed on bulldozers and graders. It is used for clearing fresh snow with a cover height of up to 30 cm. The blade blade model LM 100 allows you to clear a meter-wide path in one pass. There are modifications with snow thrown in one or two directions. In addition, with the help of a blade you can level the territory, fill up holes and move soil.
  5. Snow blower. It is best to purchase a rotary snow blower for a walk-behind tractor. The equipment is designed for cleaning paths, platforms, areas around the house, garage, along the fence. A walk-behind tractor equipped with a snow blower is able to cope with old snowdrifts covered with crust. Snow is thrown at a distance of 3-5 meters.
  6. Rotary brush. It is rigid enough to remove ice, hardened dirt and mortar residues from hard surfaces. Used for sweeping paths and areas, removing freshly fallen snow and polishing concrete.
  7. Devices for growing potatoes. In the spring, a potato planter is used, immersing the tubers to a depth of 20 cm. In the fall, a potato digger is attached to the unit, which collects the crop from a depth of 25 cm.
  8. Hiller. The manual for the walk-behind tractor recommends using this device for creating beds, periodically adding soil to them and clearing the garden of weeds. Hillers have different designs and can be adjusted to different operating parameters.

In addition to attachments for soil cultivation, other devices can be attached to walk-behind tractors. Thus, using a pump you can pump large volumes of liquid over impressive distances. A small generator connected to the power take-off shaft will supply large households with electricity during breakdowns on the line.

Weeding rippers

This type of attachment is installed on walk-behind tractors during agricultural work to care for growing crops. Loosening with weedgrass allows you to enrich the soil with oxygen, and special blades of the attachment carefully cut off weeds in narrow rows and under bushes.

Weeders for Agat walk-behind tractors can be either a separate type of additional attachment or sold as a set with a hiller, which significantly improves the quality of the work performed and expands the functionality. The “Hedgehog” model produced by “Salyut” is considered universal. To install it, a bracket-rod with brackets is required. When purchasing, it is important to consider the diameter of the seat of the selected model, which must match the diameter of the shaft. The weeder-ripper can be either single-row or double-row without a hitch.

User manual

The model's operating instructions must be included in the package of the walk-behind tractor. It is recommended that you study it carefully before starting work. Typically, this document contains the following sections.

  1. The structure of the device, its assembly.
  2. Run-in instructions (first start). The section contains recommendations on how to start the walk-behind tractor for the first time, as well as points that contain information on checking the operation of moving parts at low load.
  3. Technical characteristics of a specific modification.
  4. Tips and recommendations for further maintenance and upkeep of the device. Here you can find information on changing oil, seals, lubrication and inspection of parts.
  5. List of common types of breakdowns, causes of their occurrence and solutions, partial repairs.
  6. Safety requirements when working with a walk-behind tractor.
  7. The addresses where you can return the cultivator for warranty repairs are also usually indicated.

Hiller

When it is necessary to form furrows, loosen the soil between the rows while simultaneously hilling the plants, a hiller is installed on the cultivator. It is used in conjunction with disc cutters. When the hiller is deepened into the soil, a trapezoidal furrow is created the width of the sole of an adult’s shoe, due to which, when passing behind the cultivator, the furrow remains of a fixed size. The ridges on the sides of the resulting groove remain uniform.

For processing narrow row spacing, a lister-type hiller is chosen. It has two wings fixed relative to each other. One of the disadvantages of this attachment is the limitation on the type of soil: on hard soils, lister hillers quickly break due to the presence of a thin stand that cannot withstand overload. For Agat walk-behind tractors with an engine power of 6.5 hp declared by the manufacturer. Lister hillers are installed with extreme caution due to their increased high-torque properties.

Hillers with variable working widths cope well with complex, dense soils. They are resistant to soil adhesion, but are considered more expensive due to increased energy consumption.

The simplest, but no less effective, is the disk hiller. They prepare furrows for seeds and seedlings. The equipment has disc blades installed at an angle. Despite all the advantages of this installation, there is one significant disadvantage: the price of disc hillers is an order of magnitude higher than equipment with a variable working width. Some craftsmen often make such installations with their own hands. If the main place of application will be beds with potatoes, then you will need two metal covers 40-50 cm in diameter. Their edges are bent with a hammer and sharpened on a grinding machine. Next, the covers are attached to the cart. If the hiller needs to be placed permanently, it is welded to the frame. If you plan to use it as removable equipment, then bolts are used for fastening.

Motoblock "Agat" in action: reviews from owners

Motoblock "Agat BS-1" with a Briggs&Stratton engine . At the initial stage (the first 1-2 years), the engine worked decently, producing the necessary power, after which problems began.

The unit began to work unstably, often stalled, and was difficult to start. In total it lasted for 5 seasons: the connecting rod broke and the engine had to be replaced. Replaced it with a Lifan engine. This motor seemed better than the previous one. Plowing, transporting cargo and working on the land turned out to be easier with it.

I also used it with homemade rakes. The maximum load that was transported on the walk-behind tractor was 530 kg. Operating the Agat is very simple. It’s enough to just hold the handles so that it doesn’t “dig in” and doesn’t jump to the surface too much. One day was enough to process my plot (15 acres).

Motoblock "Agat L-6.5" with a "Lifan" engine . He gave the walk-behind tractor a lot of work - he actively cultivated the plot with it, planted potatoes, plowed and cultivated, hilled and transported loads.

The Agat L-6.5 is unpretentious in operation and requires little fuel. The downside is light weight. Sometimes the walk-behind tractor simply gets knocked out of the strip being processed, so it won’t hurt to install additional weights on the lugs.

The gear selector is located on the gearbox, which is very inconvenient. No other comments were found during the work. The walk-behind tractor copes with any job, and is not afraid of sub-zero temperatures - in winter it is used to remove snow in the yard and in front of the yard. The Lifan engine starts up perfectly and runs stably.

“Start the engine!”

The two-year experience of using the Agat KhMD-6.5 has been successful so far. After several years of cultivating the beds, such mechanization of work is simply heaven and earth.

“Agat KhMD-6.5” was used very actively after running-in. In your own garden, and then on the land of your relatives. The speed of cultivation pleased me, as did the fuel consumption. The engine always starts the first time (you need to move the “flag” on the carburetor). There are practically no downsides to the operation of the walk-behind tractor. The only thing I don't like is the steering wheel mount. Everything else pleased me.

“Agat BS-1” is an ambiguous technique, with its pros and cons. The first outings on the site surprised and pleased - the walk-behind tractor pulled perfectly, although with a small depth of tillage. Moreover, even at second speed it went and processed perfectly. But after just a few days of operation, the walk-behind tractor began to “be capricious”: “shoot” from the exhaust pipe and “sneeze”. Then the power and speed began to decrease.

Changing the oil slightly improved the situation, but these problems did not go away completely. For the second season, too: at first “Agat” worked great, but then it “sank down” again. At the end of the second season, oil began to leak from the gearbox. I asked the dealer and they said it was normal. So there is an ambivalent attitude: the equipment seems to work and cope with the tasks, but it is not flawless at all, and even from the first season of work.

I have been using the Agat walk-behind tractor with a diesel engine for two years. This technique suits everything. I ran it in as expected and immediately started working with it intensively. At first speed, the walk-behind tractor calmly takes up virgin soil (but in several passes, through a gradual deepening).

The gearbox is not very well designed, because there is no oil dipstick on it. To find out the volume, you have to do a long drain. The axis on which the cutters are mounted is constantly stained with oil, although oil does not leak from under the gear selector rod. But I didn’t have any other problems with Agat.

I have “Agat” - this is my first walk-behind tractor, I’ve been using it for the first year and I’m very pleased. The earth is dug up not like a shovel (in pieces), but downright! And all the weed roots are cut and fly out. And all this is very fast and convenient. You free your arms, legs, and most importantly your back from excessive stress by digging up the entire garden by hand. I dug up my 12 acres with the Agat walk-behind tractor in 25 minutes! These are simply miracles and the technique is working great so far!

I purchased the Agat walk-behind tractor about 7 years ago. With a motor (I strongly DO NOT recommend that anyone buy equipment and, in particular, engines from this company). Because the walk-behind tractor worked poorly with this engine, often stalling, although I did the run-in strictly as expected, and after about 5 years the connecting rod broke.

I had to buy and install a new engine, the Lifan brand. After running-in, the walk-behind tractor with the new engine began to do things that it could not do before: plowing, transporting a homemade wheelbarrow with a full body, etc. However, it was not without modifications: for the mower we had to make a front trailed one, for plowing we had to order a driven pulley larger diameter than factory (to reduce speed).

“Behind the wheel” of the “Agat” walk-behind tractor.

I have been using the Agat walk-behind tractor, also known as Salyut-5, for three seasons. I ran it in as expected and even more than that. The Lifan 168-F2 engine has very high power, I would even say excessive for such a baby. I plowed virgin soil with it too. True, in several passes, gradually going deeper, but walk-behind tractors are not designed for such actions. + Pros: Excellent loosening, easily pulls 6 cutters on medium-density soils. It pulls uphill like a tractor, but on the descents the power is lost somewhere. — Cons: The seals on the axle where the cutters are attached are of poor quality and constantly leak oil. That's why the axle is damp all the time. There is no oil dipstick on the gearbox; you only know how much to add once you have filled it. Starting a walk-behind tractor seems simple and commonplace, but no: you still need to adapt, since the starter cord must be pulled out almost to its entire length.

The Agat-Salyut 5 walk-behind tractor left a mixed impression on me. I tried to work with different walk-behind tractors, so I have something to compare with. The jambs began to emerge soon after the start of operation. If at first he pulled the plow vigorously (only the cutting depth left much to be desired), and at the same time he walked well in second gear. Then, after digging 30 acres, he began to act up: shooting with the exhaust pipe and sneezing.

After changing the oil, these symptoms subsided (but not completely), and the initial power readings decreased slightly. I didn’t plow with it in the following seasons, but it does cultivation better than anything else: the soil is soft, loose, and the roots of the grass are crushed. Despite its small dimensions, the power is good and it is easy to drive. The oil constantly leaks and the engine rattles loudly, but it works efficiently.

I bought an Agat with a Briggs&Stratton Intek PRO206 motor about 5 years ago. I just exploited it mercilessly all this time. From the very beginning, after the first 20 acres, I additionally bought new cutters to increase the coverage of cultivated land. With 6 cutters, the processing speed has noticeably increased, with the same quality, and the motor runs normally. The cutters themselves are not of very high quality; they have to be sharpened often, after every 50 acres. Since the metal is bad, one set has already been ground down.

The motor itself is too powerful for such a light device. It thins out the oil a little. The Agat walk-behind tractor, in my opinion, is too light for cultivating dense soils, and there are no hooks for placing weights. I place a barbell plate on top. + Pros: Large, with reserve, power, versatility, excellent cultivation. — Cons: Lightweight, oozes oil, strong engine vibration is transmitted to the handles - your hands get tired quickly.

The Agat walk-behind tractor is entering its third season.

I bought this miracle of Russian-Chinese technology three years ago. The first impression of the work of “Agatom” was great. It crawls on its own, just correct the movement, sometimes lifting it if it is buried. But it soon became apparent that oil was escaping from under the gearshift rod. And it drives like that normally. It's impossible to see the level. To do this, you need to drain all the oil and see how much there was.

With this doubt, I went to the dealers. There they assured me that this is the case for everyone. That there are no oil seals and therefore the oil is and will continue to be driven. In the fall, problems began with the clutch. And it has a belt, like in a variator. I opened the casing and there were belts. In the third year the engine (Lifan) died. It smokes, smokes, but there is no power.

In my experience, the costs of oil and gasoline are negligible compared to the benefits that the Agat walk-behind tractor brings. What I like most is the way he cultivates. The cutters finely shovel the soil. After cultivation, the soil turns out to be soft, loose, and your feet will sink right into it. This is a big plus of this walk-behind tractor. One of the advantages I would say is the great relief of physical labor.

The walk-behind tractor itself is small, quite light, stable, and does not fall over on its side. The work is done much faster than doing it without a walk-behind tractor. Saving time and effort in person. It is simply impossible to loosen the soil with a shovel like that.

Potato digger

The simplest potato digger for the Agat walk-behind tractor is considered to be a lancet type model. When passing through the rows, the soil is cut with knives along with the harvest and moves along the rods. The potatoes remain on them, and the remaining soil crumbles away. The disadvantages of potato diggers of this type include instability on uneven areas. If the rods get stuck in the ground, they will bend.

“Agat” cultivators can be equipped with screening potato diggers that have a ploughshare and screening grids. The advantage of such equipment is productivity. When passing through the rows, the ploughshare goes 20 cm into the ground, cuts it off and, together with the tubers, directs it onto the grate. The remaining soil is sifted and the potatoes remain in the lattice cart.

The most popular installations for Agat are KUM-1, KKM-1, KVM-3. They differ in grip width and performance. For example, the universal model KKM-1 provides 0.05-0.2 ha/hour, and KVM-3 with the same width produces 0.1-0.2 ha/hour.

Shovel attachment

A blade blade is necessary when clearing an area of leaves, construction debris or snow with snowdrifts of 20-30 cm. The attachment is also used to level the soil before planting crops. To make work easier, it is recommended to install metal wheels on the walk-behind tractor simultaneously with the blade, which provide good traction with the ground. An adapter is required for fastening, but some Agat models, for example, the L6.5 modification with a Lifan engine in the base, have an adapter for fixing a snow blower, lawn mower or utility brush.

You can make a blade yourself. To do this you will need a steel barrel with a volume of 200 liters. It is sawed, removing the bottom and rings. The resulting pipe is cut lengthwise into three parts. Using metal cotter pins, the blade is fixed at an angle of 30 degrees. The width of the blade is usually maintained at 900-1000 mm in the front with a metal thickness of 2-3 mm.

Plow

To loosen and roughly plow the soil, a plow is installed on walk-behind tractors. With the help of such attachments, it is possible, with little labor, to turn over layers of soil up to 25 cm thick. Regardless of the type, the plow is a metal ridge extended upward, which cuts into the ground, ensuring its plowing.

Rotary mounted plows are suitable for Agat cultivators. They have several blades that pass through medium and heavy soils without losing the performance of the equipment. For greater functionality, farmers are advised to choose models with multi-directional left and right plates for plowing in forward and reverse directions. When working in the garden, you can choose a single-furrow plow. Its only drawback is that it works exclusively on light soils.

The advantage of Agat walk-behind tractors is the ability to work both with original attachments from the manufacturer and with units produced at other factories. When choosing settings, consider the shaft size.

The structure of the Agat walk-behind tractor

Domestic products belong to the category of classic walk-behind tractors with a power take-off shaft.

The units are designed for year-round use.

The operating instructions for the Agat L 6.5 walk-behind tractor contain a mention that diesel engines may have difficulty starting in the winter.

All versions of the Agat brand walk-behind tractor have the same device:

  1. Highly durable frame. A reinforced steel angle is used for its manufacture. Fastening of brackets for protective wings, supports, power unit, steering column, gearbox and other components is carried out using bolts and nuts.
  2. Transmission. Consists of a clutch and gearbox. The gearbox is located in an aluminum housing filled with oil. The clutch includes a V-belt, control handle, tension roller and return spring. The transmission is highly reliable and can withstand extreme loads.
  3. Power point. The plant equips its products with motors made in Japan, China and America. The products are equipped with gasoline and diesel power plants. If necessary, they can be replaced with domestically manufactured engines.
  4. Chassis. They are a powerful axle shaft mounted on the frame. At the request of the customer, an axle shaft with a release mechanism can be installed on the product. This allows the unit to be deployed with a turning radius of up to 100 cm. The manufacturer installs pneumatic wheels 10 cm wide and 25 cm in diameter on its products. To work on soft ground, they can be replaced with larger wheels. The unique tread pattern provides good traction with the ground and self-cleaning of dirt accumulated in the grooves.
  5. Hitch. This is a device for attaching to the Agat BS 1, L6 walk-behind tractor and other models of various mounted and trailed equipment.
  6. Controls. They include a steering column, adjustable steering wheel and levers. To give the unit a stable position during stopping and storage, a folding stop is attached to it, which can be replaced with a third wheel.

The KV 2 layout module for the Agat walk-behind tractor allows you to significantly expand the functionality and efficiency of all models of these small agricultural machines. Their versatility is achieved through the use of additional options.
