General advantages and disadvantages of Texas walk-behind tractors

The advantages that are inherent in absolutely all models of Texas motor cultivators include the following:

  • The equipment is equipped with reinforced cutters, which can easily cope not only with the heaviest soil, but also with compacted lumps;
  • Many units can work without breaks for quite a long time and are capable of performing many operations over a large area;
  • You can purchase the necessary spare parts for upgrading or repairing walk-behind tractors without spending a lot of money or waiting a long time;
  • High performance is guaranteed thanks to a powerful motor;
  • The set includes 6 cutters, which will allow you not to buy additional devices to perform basic tasks and save a lot;
  • The installed engines consume fuel economically;
  • The cost of walk-behind tractors is quite reasonable, and the quality is in no way inferior to more well-known analogues;
  • Increased maneuverability is created thanks to the chain drive and the presence of reverse gear.

The negative aspects include considerable noise, so many established owners recommend performing work with special headphones. Moreover, as reviews indicate, on soft soil the machine’s performance is somewhat reduced.

About the manufacturer

The Texas company began its history in 1960, when the first representative office was opened in the Danish city of Odense. Andreas Petersen, the man who stood at the origins of the company, chose the production and subsequent sale of various garden equipment as his main activity.

Initially, the bias was towards the production of only cultivators and harvesting machines, but later the company’s specialists began to implement projects for the production of brush cutters, brush cutters, wood splitters and other gardening equipment.

The company even has a special department that deals exclusively with the design of future cultivators and other small-sized equipment. (We recommend reading about the heavy diesel walk-behind tractor rating of the best 2017).

Texas

We are talking not only about warranty service, but also about the provision of various spare parts even for those models that have already been discontinued. This is real care for the client, which is why more and more people are choosing a Danish company.

  • Hobby;
  • Lilli;
  • LX;
  • Rower line;
  • El tex.

The EL TEX 1000 model has low power, but the engine is electric. The power of the cultivator is 1000 kW, which allows you to cultivate light or already plowed soils. The width of the row being grabbed is 30 cm, and the depth is 22 cm. The weight of the product is about 10 kg.

The Hobbi 500 motor-cultivator is designed for cultivating small areas - up to 5 acres. Thanks to its small-sized modification, the device can be used in greenhouses. The models in the series do not differ too much from each other, only in brands and engine power. For example, the Texas Hobbi 380 features a Briggs & Stratton engine, which is considered more reliable than the Series found on the Hobbi 500.

Texas 532, Texas 601, Texas 530 - equipped with a 5.5 hp Powerline engine made in the USA. With. The devices feature an adjustable working width. The versions are more expensive than their predecessors due to improved innovations. For example, an automatic starting system and the ability to cool the engine.

Lilli motor cultivators are high-performance devices characterized by maneuverability. The devices cultivate the soil to a depth of 33 cm and a width of up to 85 cm. This brings them closer to the Lilli 572B, Lilli 532TG and TGR620 series of walk-behind tractors, which differ in the engine brand. The first device is equipped with Briggs & Stratton, and the second is Powerline TGR620.

Owner reviews

Vladimir:

“I bought a Texas 532 motor-cultivator on sale. We decided to choose a well-known manufacturer rather than Chinese cars. And they were not mistaken. My neighbor has already taken his walk-behind tractor to the service center for repairs twice, and this is our third year without any problems. I have a plot of 48 acres, little by little I do everything that needs to be done with different attachments with a cultivator - plowing, weeding, hilling potatoes. I attached the cart and can carry 4-5 bags freely.

Advantages: The entire structure of the unit is perfectly balanced - the center of gravity is rationally shifted thanks to the aluminum frame. The cutters are conveniently located.

Disadvantages: none found.”

What it is?

The equipment is considered light agricultural, intended for cultivating the soil. The Texas cultivator is designed in such a way that it can be supplemented with a set of attachments. The equipment allows you to cultivate the soil by loosening, weeding and applying mineral fertilizers. The design of the models is characterized by the presence of a chain gearbox and cultivation cutters, which act as wheels. The machine makes it easier to work on small garden plots. When purchasing it, a complex of agrotechnical measures becomes available to the gardener.

When comparing cultivators and walk-behind tractors, the main difference is:

  • weight;
  • power;
  • presence of gearbox;
  • speed selection options;
  • in soil cultivation methods.

Cultivators cut the layers by milling. This is essentially loosening, which is not suitable for heavy loamy soils. In addition, after such treatment, weeds usually remain. The cutter can't handle them. Due to the fact that the soil remains soft after loosening, they spread quickly. Positive properties of soil milling:

  • more uniform processing;
  • improving air and water permeability.

Texas LX550B and LX 500B differ from others in their gearboxes, which are not worm-type, but chain-type. The first option is allowed for use on cultivated land. It often heats up due to prolonged operation; the devices should not be moved in reverse. If the engine has a chain gearbox, it will have a long service life, and its cost will also remain low. Failures such as a broken chain or damaged teeth can be easily corrected independently or for a small fee at a service center.

Maintenance of equipment by the company

Texas cultivator repair and equipment servicing are provided by specialized centers. The operating instructions list the addresses of repair shops. The warranty on the tool is valid for 3 years, so first of all you need to determine the location of the repair center and the possibility of service. This applies to the warranty part of the tool. You can add lubricant and replace the belt on the Texas cultivator in any workshop or on your own.

Failures of equipment operating in difficult conditions are classified as follows:

It is these problems that will require contacting the service class=”aligncenter” width=”600″ height=”449″[/img]

Malfunctions

Texas cultivators have a sufficient margin of safety, but over time certain problems may arise that require prompt intervention.

Let's consider several possible problems that are typical during long-term operation of Texas cultivators:

  • Problem with the gearbox. The gearbox of the Texas LX 500 cultivator can make quite noisy sounds during its operation, which is most often caused by a lack of oil in it. It is necessary to top up, or better yet, completely replace the oil.
  • This noise may be a result of loose bolts and other fasteners, so you need to inspect and tighten all bolts and nuts until they are tight. By the way, quite often oil leaks from the gearbox, which is caused by improper installation or wear of the seals.
  • Accordingly, it is necessary to replace the oil seal on the Texas cultivator, as well as replace all gaskets.
  • Problems with the belt. This design detail generally refers to consumables, i.e. to those that fail quite often. This is quite understandable, because the drive belt takes on a fairly large load, as a result of which it wears out or breaks.
  • Therefore, it is recommended to purchase a spare belt for the Texas cultivator in order to quickly replace it if necessary.
  • The cultivator is buried. Many people are interested in why the Texas cultivator is buried? In general, this problem exists with many cultivators when working on fairly loose soils.
  • For example, if you have a TX 501 or 502 model, you can slow down the gas a little by folding the wheels to the middle position, and then adjust the bipod.
  • The carburetor adjustment of the Texas Hobby 370 cultivator is carried out on a warm engine. To begin with, we screw in the full and low throttle adjusting screws, then turn them out one and a half turns, after which we start the engine and warm it up for ten minutes.
  • We set the engine control lever to the minimum speed position, while making sure that the engine does not stop. Using the throttle valve adjusting screw, we set the idle speed to normal so that the engine runs smoothly.
  • Using the idle screw, we adjust the idle speed to maximum, and then use the throttle screw to adjust the idle speed. The last two manipulations must be repeated at least twice.
  • Gearbox problems. In this case, the problem will be the same as in the case of the gearbox, i.e. insufficient oil level. Therefore, it is necessary to fill the oil for the Texas cultivator into the appropriate crankcase, or replace it with a new one.

Gearbox Do
-it-yourself repairs to the Texas 601 cultivator, as well as other models in this series, should only be carried out if a person is familiar with the structure of such units, as well as methods for troubleshooting basic problems.

Otherwise, you can not only fail, but completely break everything, after which there will be no choice but to purchase a new cultivator.

  • Mills (saber and crow's feet) are used for cultivating all types of soil. They are made from solid steel that has been cured. The number of knives on a milling machine can vary from 3 to 4.
  • The main purpose of the trailed trolley. transportation of bulk or piece goods with a carrying capacity of up to 500 kg. The trolley is attached to the tractor passage using a clamp.
  • The motor unit, in combination with the adapter, turns into a mini-tractor; the owner of the unit does all the work while sitting.
  • You can attach any application to your device.
  • Scales allow you to increase the existing weight of the motor unit, which will increase the depth of processing. The scales are located on the motor shaft and directly on the wheels.

A Texas cultivator using attachments (potato planter, potato planter and quail) can plant and harvest weeds and ground potatoes:

Works in

To extend the life of your Texas tiller and reduce breakdowns and unproductive downtime, start the machine first. At the beginning of the breakdown procedure, the engine should idle, then gradually begin to operate in lean mode. up to 50% load for 10-13 hours, various types of soil cultivation are allowed.

At the stage of breakdown of the main components and mechanisms of the machine, therefore, you should pay attention to their functioning: the clarity of gear shifting, the condition of the moving parts of the structure, chassis, wheels, etc., as well as the presence of noise

After a breakdown, the oil is replaced and the cultivator is inspected again.

Petroleum fuel

Texas Petroleum Cultivators consume gasoline without the AI-92 marking, fuel consumption is quite economical. 1 liter/hour, with increased loading the gas mileage may increase. Recommended oil class. SAE 30.

User guide

Recommendations for the use of Texas cultivators are similar to the rules for operating other similar units, described in detail in the instructions for each cultivator, which indicate the basic requirements:

  • It is necessary to carefully study the instructions and features of the model, its technical characteristics, including methods for emergency shutdown of the machine.
  • This excludes the use of the cultivator in work not provided for in the instructions, which exceeds the maximum load.
  • It is prohibited to operate the cultivator by persons under 16 years of age, persons who are not familiar with the instructions, are in a sick condition, or are intoxicated.
  • During work, it is necessary to maintain a safe distance of 20 m from neighboring people, animals, and property.
  • A thorough inspection of the equipment must be carried out before each operation.
  • Carry out preventative maintenance as scheduled.

Basic faults

The most common damage to the cultivator and problems with the gearbox. Engine problems (not starting) can occur due to dirty air filter, muffler, carburetor and spark plug ignition.

Noise in the gearbox occurs due to lack of oil, oil leakage. in this case, the iron should be replaced.

Significant vibration of the cultivator can be caused by improper installation of the assembled units. If the blades stop turning, the clutch cable or mounting bracket may be out of adjustment.

The key to the longevity of any equipment is its proper operation. To extend the life of your assistant and avoid breakdowns, you must follow certain rules:

It is necessary to ensure that there are no stones, metal objects, or pieces of brick in the treated area. When working near trees, care should be taken to prevent cuttings from rooting. You cannot loosen the ground after cutting, the knives will certainly break at the roots. A proven method of prevention is to keep a small amount of gasoline in the fuel tank at all times, which will help avoid rust and condensation. If the cultivator automation fails, it is strongly recommended that you do not fix the problem yourself; It is wiser to use the services of specialized centers.

Components and attachments

Motor cultivators are durable. The functionality of some parts can be easily restored by replacing them.

For example:

  • reverse gear;
  • large pulley;
  • gearbox;
  • candles;
  • knives.

These mechanisms wear out quickly with intensive use. Even more powerful equipment can be subject to natural aging processes, which directly affect such details as:

  • pen;
  • plow;
  • wheels;
  • sleeve;
  • opener

If spare parts are purchased in a timely manner, equipment downtime can be avoided. The gardener will also find the following attachments useful in his work:

  • hillers;

  • rake.

Terms of use

Thanks to a similar design, the Texas series of walk-behind tractors has interchangeable parts, which significantly speeds up the process of finding parts and repairs. Despite this, each modification has its own technical features. But in any case, there are approved standards that must be followed during the first and subsequent use of this type of equipment. Let's consider the basic rules for using the Texas 532 walk-behind tractor:

  • The owner is required to read the instructions for the walk-behind tractor. Although, it must be admitted, the user manual is in many ways similar to the rules for using competing walk-behind tractors. So, after competently studying the instructions, you can begin to start the power unit for the first time. During this procedure, you should try to use different ways to stop the engine, so that later you don’t have to look for the right button again in a critical situation.
  • The power unit for the Texas 532 walk-behind tractor is used strictly for its intended purpose. In other words, it cannot be used in areas that are not described in the user manual.
  • It is strictly forbidden to allow people who have no idea what a walk-behind tractor is to operate a walk-behind tractor. For example, these could be children under 16 years of age.
  • Before starting the walk-behind tractor, you need to make sure that there are no people or animals around it. According to the manufacturer's instructions, the distance between a person and a walk-behind tractor should be 20 meters.
  • Due to the presence of cutting elements, the walk-behind tractor has high safety regulations. This means that a person who gets behind the wheel of this car while drunk will be immediately fined.
  • Texas 532 has great potential, but only if you install additional equipment.
  • The walk-behind tractor has proven itself well on the specific road surface for which it is adapted. Here everything depends on the performance and design features of the walk-behind tractor itself.
  • For efficient and reliable operation, the walk-behind tractor operator must be dressed appropriately: for example, he must have boots with non-slip soles. In addition, long parts of the wardrobe will have to be laid out. Otherwise, there is a risk of them getting under the cutting elements of the walk-behind tractor.
  • After inspecting the area being treated, only then can you begin to work. To ensure that nothing interferes with your work, it is necessary to remove all unnecessary objects to prevent them from getting under the cutters.
  • The power plant of the walk-behind tractor, like all its component parts, requires timely maintenance. Regular inspection never hurts. Moreover, there is a high probability that after long-term use you will have to adjust the connections yourself and tighten the bolts so that the structure does not fall apart.
  • Texas 532, despite having one headlight, is usually used during the daytime. This will avoid sad consequences.
  • It is important to remember that checking the level and replacing all consumables on the Texas 532 walk-behind tractor is a necessary procedure, but before doing this, do not forget to turn off the engine and other elements that require power from the battery.
  • The version of the walk-behind tractor with a gasoline engine is not recommended for use in enclosed spaces to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
  • The fuel tank should not be filled to the full, otherwise it will spill out during operation, which can result in contact with various important elements, such as the power supply.

User manual

Walk-behind tractors from a Danish company are serious gardening equipment

For long and reliable service, it is important to follow the rules recommended by the manufacturer. Before starting a new unit, you need to check the condition of the oil

This is a mandatory condition, even if the store assured that it is filled. Due to its insufficient volume, the engine can be easily and quickly damaged. Store-bought oil can also be spoiled because it was filled a long time ago. The check will be greatly simplified by a special sensor. If the quantity is sufficient, you can add fuel. Gasoline in some models is diluted with oil. For Texas walk-behind tractors, this action is necessary for Powerline engines.

Next, the walk-behind tractor must be inspected for reliability of the steering rod and wheels. If the gasoline engine is equipped with an electric starter, you can immediately turn the ignition (Hobbi, Lilli models). If it is missing, you need to open the gasoline tap, and move the choke lever to “Start”, the ignition key must be turned off. Then you need to pull the starter and turn the choke into the “Operation” state. That's it, the unit is started, you can start working.

To avoid causing damage to your equipment, be sure to read the operating instructions supplied with your unit. It notes, for example, that actions after winter downtime depend on storage conditions. Often the unit is left to spend the winter in unsuitable conditions. The best storage location for Texas walk-behind tractors is a heated garage or other warm room. For the winter period, you need to fill the gearbox with synthetic oil. If there is no heated room, replacing the fuel is the first condition.

When starting the unit in sub-zero temperatures, the sequence of actions is the same as in the summer. If the device is being preserved for the winter, experienced gardeners recommend unscrewing the spark plugs. Cold cranking of the crankshaft will be helpful. Attachable parts must be washed from dirt and treated with a layer of machine oil. Experts advise applying a special polish with protective functions over the oil. The products are sold in spray form and are used on the electrical connectors of the unit. It is best to store the battery in models with an electric starter in a clean, dry place. During storage it needs to be charged several times. To prevent displacement of the engine cylinders during conservation, it is recommended to pull the starter handle several times and open the fuel valve.

There is a lot of controversy about gasoline in a walk-behind tractor, which some recommend draining, while others say the opposite. The difference in opinion relates to the types of fuel used. For example, regular diesel will freeze at -10°C. If you add additives to it, its liquid state will remain down to -25°C. Therefore, if there are very cold winters in the region and there is a diesel cultivator, it is recommended to drain the fuel from it.

Options for solving the problem

The following are some situations in which you can repair motor cultivators yourself.

  1. The engine will not start. There may be several reasons for this: failure of the fuel supply system, clogged fuel fluid or filter. Another option could be a problem with the spark charge on the spark plugs. Solution: you need to change the fuel, clean the tank, filter, check the ignition and replace the spark plugs if one of them is faulty.
  2. Poor operation of the unit, the cultivator motor does not work well, sometimes stalls. There may be an ignition problem, you need to check the spark plugs.
  3. The cultivator engine makes a knocking noise. One of the internal parts of the engine is damaged: a piston, a cylinder or a bearing on the crankshaft; a ring may have fallen off the piston. Engine repair is carried out by replacing damaged parts.
  4. The cultivator motor makes a hum that is close to knocking - the engine is overheating or the fuel is of poor quality. Work less at maximum power, use a higher quality fuel.
  5. The cultivator's arms (mills, working parts) do not work. The first option is that something is stuck between them and is preventing movement. If nothing is stuck, you need to check the following elements: fastening, drive belt, pulley and position of the idler gear. If everything is in order with the belt, the fastening pins are in place, and the pulley looks adjusted, then the unit will have to be taken to a service center, since it needs to be completely inspected, and if necessary, you will not be able to replace the pulley yourself.
