Adjusting the Husqvarna chainsaw carburetor

General view of the Husqvarna chainsaw carburetor and adjusting screws:

A distinctive feature of this saw is the ability to operate at low idle speeds. In the instructions, the manufacturer notes the following: on a correctly adjusted device, the minimum idle speed is 600...700 rpm. If work occurs at a higher crankshaft speed, the chain will not stop in idle mode. This is dangerous for the user.

To correctly adjust the carburetor, place the chainsaw on a horizontal surface.

Before starting the adjustment, you need to allow the internal combustion engine to warm up for 8...10 minutes (in summer) or 12...15 minutes (in winter, at negative air temperatures).

Turn screw L on the carburetor clockwise. Having reached the limit position, they return back approximately a quarter turn counterclockwise.

The idle speed is set with a screw marked T. Turn this screw clockwise and watch the chain begin to move. As soon as the chain starts to move, turn the screw back until the drive sprocket stops rotating. The chain will stop.

Screw H determines the quality of the mixture at maximum speed. If you turn it clockwise all the way, the internal combustion engine will make a lot of noise. The exhaust will be smoky and the mixture will be too rich in the carburetor. Therefore, from the maximum position, reverse rotation is performed approximately half a turn back.

Recommendations for adjusting the carburetor on Husqvarna saws are shown in the video:

How to properly adjust the carburetor with your own hands?

After washing and thoroughly cleaning the carburetor, they are assembled and begin to be adjusted. First of all, you need to understand the purpose of the adjustment screws. This will help the instructions, but some general points should be addressed immediately. The most common screw designation is:

  • N. _ Regulates the state of the main jet, i.e. Sets the maximum rotation speed of the motor shaft;
  • L. _ Regulates idle nozzles (responsible for the minimum shaft rotation speed);
  • T. _ Regulates engine idle speed. It can also be marked with the letters LA or S; on some carburetor models it is completely absent.

Turning screws H and L clockwise depletes the air-fuel mixture and enriches it counterclockwise (the amount of gasoline increases). When screw T rotates, the shaft rotation speed changes at idle speed. Clockwise, it increases and decreases in the opposite direction.

Figure 2. Carburetor adjustment mechanisms

Before taking direct action, it is necessary to find and carefully study information about the position of the adjusting screws (the value of the angle of rotation during adjustment). This information is available in the chainsaw manual. Then you need to prepare your workplace. Lay the saw on a flat, horizontal plane with the chain facing away from you. Remove all covers, foam and air filter. At this point, the preparatory operations are considered complete, and the main part of the work can begin.

Procedure for setting carbohydrates:

  1. Carefully tighten screws H and L clockwise until they are tight, being careful not to break the screws. This will result in complete loss of the carburetor.
  2. Unscrew both screws one and a half turns.
  3. Run the engine for 10 minutes and warm it up. This is a necessary point because the carburetor cannot be installed correctly on a cold engine.
  4. By turning screws H and L, alternately adjust the rotation of the shaft at maximum and minimum speeds.
  5. By adjusting the position of screw T (or it may have another designation), the idle speed of the chainsaw is adjusted. It is necessary to achieve smooth and stable operation of the engine. It is important to monitor whether the circuit is in standby mode or not. If it moves, turn the screw slightly counterclockwise.

READ Chainsaw Carburetor Adjustment Wrench

Check engine operation visually and audibly. A mixture that is too rich results in thick smoke from the exhaust. When a lean mixture is fed while the saw is running, a whistle is heard. Excessive saving is harmful. If you set the L screw to "bad" fuel, you will have problems starting the engine. When set to a lean mixture, screw H will noticeably lose strength. You can determine the correct setting by the following criteria:

  • At idle, the engine does not lag and the chain does not move;
  • There is no excess smoke from the exhaust pipe when the engine is running;
  • The engine exhibits good throttle response (it quickly picks up speed when you press the accelerator).

A detailed description of the setup is available in the instructions included with the instrument in the package. This should be carefully reviewed as there may be some features or special requirements set by the manufacturer that only apply to that model of saw. If all requirements are met accurately, the chainsaw's performance will be restored to its original condition.

Adjustment Tools

To adjust the carburetor, you will need Phillips or slotted screwdrivers of varying lengths or thicknesses. The size depends on the design of this unit and the characteristics of the engine assembly. It should be noted that some manufacturers produce carburetors designed for use with special tools.

In particular, installation of Husqvarna carburetors and other imported tools may require a special screwdriver. It is advisable to clarify this issue even when purchasing a chainsaw, so that you can purchase the necessary additional equipment in advance.

In addition, washed gasoline or acetone will be needed to flush and clean the device. They are used to clean the external surfaces of the carburetor. All internal channels are washed with kerosene, diesel fuel or white alcohol. Before washing the carburetor, remove all rubber or plastic parts that may come into contact with aggressive chemicals.

Wrenches or ring wrenches are used to disassemble the carburetor. Washing of internal channels is carried out in specially designated baths; sometimes plastic syringes are used for this.

Carburetor adjustment

  • Advantages and disadvantages
  • Review
  • Reviews from Poulan 2150 chainsaw owners

In the gardening market, the Poulan two thousand one hundred and fifty chainsaw has long been a leader. The instrument gained such popularity due to the high quality of materials, power, performance, light weight and small dimensions.

Low fuel and oil consumption makes the Poulan chainsaw extremely economical. The product is falsely assigned to a certain class, so I consider it universal. This is due to the fact that the Poulan two thousand one hundred fifty chainsaw is ideal for both home use (harvesting firewood, sawing dead wood) and professional use (felling trees, sawing wood, etc.)

Purpose, design and principle of operation of the carburetor.

A carburetor is needed to prepare the air-fuel mixture to power the engine. If the proportions in this mixture are incorrect, the operation of the motor is disrupted. If the proportion is not observed in the direction of increasing the amount of fuel, the mixture is called oversaturated, but if, on the contrary, there is little fuel, it is called lean. Both have a negative effect on engine performance.

In different models of chainsaws, carburetors differ in design, but they are similar in principle of operation. The air flow moves at high speed along the air channel. The damper that blocks the channel allows you to change the speed of the air stream. The fuel is supplied through the atomizer into the channel, where it is mixed with the incoming air, forming an air-fuel mixture. The resulting mixture enters the engine.

The pressure in the float chamber, where the fuel is located before mixing, is almost equal to atmospheric pressure. But a vacuum is created in the air channel, due to which the fuel is drawn into the air flow. The more the damper opens, the faster the air moves, and the amount of fuel also increases - the engine speed increases. This is how you can imagine the principle of operation of a carburetor in a simplified way.

For efficient, smooth operation of the tool, obtaining maximum output and at the same time economical fuel consumption, you need to adjust the carburetor of the chainsaw. Before adjusting, you need to check the fuel and air filters - they must be clean. On most chainsaws, adjustment is carried out by three screws: idle, high speed, low speed. The following signs indicate that the carburetor is correctly adjusted:

  1. The chain does not move at idle.
  2. The engine accelerates smoothly and quickly.
  3. The sound of the running engine is smooth, similar to the sound of a four-stroke engine.

When adjusting the carburetor, you need to treat it with all possible care, because errors in the settings can lead to very serious consequences, including engine malfunction. If you are not 100% confident in your abilities, you need to contact a service center.

What carburetors are used on Chinese chainsaws

The most optimal carburetor designs for chainsaws were developed by the world's leading manufacturers - German Stihl, Japanese Walbro and others. These top developments are hard to beat. Therefore, most Chinese manufacturers copy the best models.

Today there is a large offer of Chinese carburetors for chainsaws on sale.

Some are nameless, from an unknown manufacturer and do not even have markings. They are simply offered for a specific chainsaw model. For example, a carburetor for a Stihl MS 361 chainsaw.

Others have brand names of well-known brands.

Still others have their own catchy names - in Russian transcription King Kong, Technopark, Rezet and others.

What kind of carburetor does your chainsaw have?

A carburetor removed from a chainsaw and cleaned of carbon deposits looks something like this in most models. The figure clearly shows the designations of the adjusting screws.

It's easy to remember their designation:

  • LA (in some T models) – idle speed adjustment. This screw is brought out in all chainsaws.
  • L and H – adjustment of the position of the rocker arms (gaps for fuel supply), that is, selection of optimal speed under load. In some instruments, especially inexpensive ones, they are not brought out, but the holes, so that you can get to them without removing the cover, are usually decorated with plastic tubes. Screw L regulates the flow of fuel mixture into the engine at low speeds, screw H – at high speeds.

The owner of a chainsaw does not have a special adjustment stand, and prefers to make adjustments without disassembling the unit or disassembling it minimally. Before disassembling for the first time, be sure to study the operating instructions, especially the section describing the design and containing a set of sketches. This preparation will allow you to avoid unnecessary disassembly and assembly work.

When is carburetor adjustment necessary?

Initially, from the moment the tool is sold, all carburetors are tuned and tuned at the factory. However, during operation, the settings are gradually lost and the operation mode changes according to the operating conditions. Carburetor symptoms may include:

  • The gas flow is too high, thick smoke comes out of the exhaust pipe;
  • The engine power is clearly insufficient for normal tasks;
  • Engine speed "float";
  • After starting, the engine stops immediately or after a few seconds;
  • It is generally impossible to start the engine;
  • The chainsaw “shoots” and sharp spikes appear in the tool’s engine.

READ How to Cut Slate Without a Grinder

It should be noted that when a new engine breaks down, the carburetor is set to deliver less fuel to limit engine power. After a breakdown, the fuel supply increases to the nominal value. These adjustments are made using adjustment screws on the carburetor body (usually two or three).

User manual

Owners often face a problem: it is difficult to find instructions written in Russian. Let's compose it ourselves. Operating instructions for the Poulan chainsaw:

  1. A saw is a tool that can do both good and harm. It must be handled with care.
  2. It is necessary to periodically clean the unit, adjust the main systems and replace consumables.
  3. Use chains for Oregon 91VJ or 91VG models.
  4. The tool has a comfortable grip and good balancing.
  5. Has high performance.
  6. It is recommended to run-in the unit without load before using it. To do this, you need to burn about 3 tanks of gasoline (about 1 liter).
  7. To assemble the tool, you must use a combination wrench.
  8. Install the bar, put the saw chain on it and tighten it with two nuts.
  9. A-92 gasoline mixed with oil in a ratio of 50/1 is poured into the gas tank.
  10. The work area must be prepared: children and pets must be removed.

The requirements of the manual are mandatory.

Carburetor adjustment

The engine operates based on a mixture of gasoline and oil. A rich or lean mixture negatively affects traction and reduces the life of the unit. At the factory, the chainsaw carburetor is adjusted according to average values. When adjusting with your own hands, you should remember that the composition of the mixture can be changed by rotating the screw for the quantity and quality of the mixture.

To properly adjust the carburetor, you need to know its structure and the purpose of each part well. Only in this case can the setup be done by hand.

On the carburetor, some adjusting elements cannot be unscrewed. They have heads with special slots that our screwdrivers do not fit into.

Repair work

If there are problems with operation, you can repair the chainsaw yourself. This device has a high level of maintainability. Spare parts are sold in special stores and are easily replaced. The advantages of the Poulan model range include:

  • affordable prices for spare parts;
  • economical consumption of oils and fuel;
  • easy access to all product systems;
  • use of oil from European manufacturers.

The package includes instructions with a list of recommendations, which includes:

  • preparing the saw for work;
  • systems maintenance;
  • starting the engine in winter.

In case of malfunctions, the culprits may be:

  • low quality fuel and lubricants;
  • poor cleaning of the air filter;
  • debris or drops of water getting into the carburetor;
  • faulty spark plug;
  • short circuit in the wiring;
  • excessive chain tension;
  • Incorrect carburetor setting.

The saw's ignition system is electronic. It does not require care or maintenance. You just need to monitor the quality of the spark plug and wires.

Owner reviews

Nikolay Astakhov, 44 years old, Primorsky Territory:

I bought the Poulan 2150 saw four years ago. I use it regularly, mainly for harvesting and sawing firewood. My assembly is still American, according to the documents. No special problems were identified during this time. The motor runs fine, the tire and chain are of acceptable quality. During all this time I adjusted the carburetor a couple of times and bought a couple of chains.

Victor Rybak, 43 years old, Arkhangelsk region:

Poulan bought the saw as American, but it turned out that it was made in China. However, in terms of the quality of the parts and assembly of the unit, everything is quite acceptable. The engine is practically indestructible. I seriously loaded it - it cuts perfectly. Of course, during this time it was not without problems. The main one is the carburetor. It has to be adjusted regularly. The Poulan 2150 chainsaw is very susceptible to air filter contamination: it gets a little dirty and the speed already fluctuates.

Advantages of the Poulan model: price, high-quality engine, no vibration;

Disadvantages: carburetor settings are often lost, Poulan reacts strongly to air filter contamination.

How to troubleshoot carburetor problems

The main malfunctions of a chainsaw carburetor may be as follows.

  • The engine starts with difficulty and stalls a few seconds after starting. This is often caused by incorrect low rpm settings. The fuel-air mixture is slightly enriched. It is necessary to unscrew the “L” screw half a turn, after which the adjustment should be completed with the “T” screw.
  • Engine power decreases noticeably under load. This means that the carburetor excessively enriches the mixture with oxygen. Therefore, screw “H” needs to be tightened a little, about 1/8 of a turn. If after such actions the engine power is still insufficient, but there has been some improvement in its operation, then the regulator can be tightened a little more.
  • The engine at maximum speed and without load begins to “sing”. This malfunction in the operation of the unit is caused by a lean mixture and high speed. The adjustment is made using the same “H” screw.
  • No gasoline enters the combustion chamber. Failure can be caused by clogged fuel filter, channels and carburetor jets. To eliminate the malfunction, you need to completely disassemble this chainsaw module and blow out its channels with compressed air (a compressor is required). To properly clean the fuel channels, you can use a special carburetor flushing fluid. Also, the lack of fuel flow into the engine cylinder may be due to incorrect adjustment. How to do this yourself is discussed above.
  • Overfills the carburetor. In 90% of cases, fuel overflow is caused by a dried out and roughened membrane, which puts pressure on the rocker arm connected to the needle. To change it, you will need to remove and disassemble the carburetor.
  • The engine revs poorly, runs intermittently, and power decreases. These problems are often caused by a clogged air filter. You will need to remove the cover covering the filter and clean it, which involves washing with detergent.

In general, timely adjustment, as well as timely repair of a chainsaw carburetor can significantly extend the life of the entire engine piston system

Therefore, the setting of this component of the fuel system must be treated with great attention.

Features of the Chinese chainsaw carburetor

Their design and parameters differ depending on the power and model of chainsaw they are intended for. All of them are almost identical to the original carburetors in design, but not always in quality. Today, all Chinese products cannot be considered 100% rubbish. In turn, according to their quality, they can be divided into three groups:

  1. Poor quality. Unsuitable alloys are used which oxidize, crumble and break. There is no accuracy of fit, the calibrated holes do not correspond to the required values, which leads to excessive consumption or lack of fuel in the combustion chamber. Critical parts quickly fail. Plastic parts quickly become rough or, conversely, become softened by gasoline and stop working. The axles and wire rods are bent, the threads of the fasteners are torn off. Such products are the cheapest. They are made in semi-handicraft industries using adapted equipment. As a rule, they do not have a name or marking.
  2. Carburetors are of average quality. These are factory assembled products. They do not skimp on alloys; they have established continuous production with quality control. These are fully functional carburetors that can have a service life even longer than that of the entire chainsaw.
  3. High quality carburetors. First of all, these are products from global manufacturers whose facilities are located in China. Geographically, they can be considered Chinese, but they are made using the technologies of the company that owns the brand and values its reputation. For example, Japanese Walbro carburetors are produced in China.

In addition, among Chinese manufacturers there are those who rely on high quality. They invest heavily in powerful production facilities, register their own brand and work on its reputation.

How to flush a chainsaw carburetor?

You can clean the carburetor on a chainsaw using any aerosol cleaner. The brands Mannol, Hi-Gear and Nowax have proven themselves best. These compounds are good at cleaning the walls and parts of the carburetor from accumulated dust, carbon deposits and hardened resin.

Both Chinese and German carburetors are washed in the same sequence.

Cleaning the carburetor on a chainsaw is performed in the following order:

  • First, you need to drain the used fuel remaining in the fuel tank. Next, you need to unscrew the mount and remove the protective cover of the chainsaw body, and also remove the standard air filter;
  • Next, you need to remove the hose responsible for supplying fuel. To do this you will need to open the latches. After this, you need to unscrew the fasteners and remove the top cover of the factory assembly housing;
  • Next you will need to remove the cover with the blue gasket, which plays the role of a fuel pump membrane. Near the body there are brackets in the form of springs. They will need to be removed and the screws removed;
  • Then you need to unscrew the screw and carefully remove the needle valve. Directly below it is a built-in spring, which also needs to be removed. After this, you need to pull out the damper and the standard axle, carefully pulling them along towards you;
  • After this, you will need to remove the drive arm, as well as the throttle body and its factory axle;
  • All extracted parts of the chainsaw carburetor will need to be laid out on paper and their integrity checked. If necessary, worn parts must be replaced;
  • Next, all dismantled parts must be washed with a spray can. The same must be done with the float chamber and carburetor body.
  • After complete drying, all parts must be installed in the reverse order.

After washing, the carburetor will need to be installed in its regular place in the chainsaw. Next, you will need to start the garden tool and observe its operation at idle and maximum speed.

Chinese chainsaw carburetor repair

Carburetors cost 500-1000 rubles. It doesn't always make sense to repair. A repair kit with a set of gaskets and a diaphragm costs not much less than the cheapest carburetor, 300-350 rubles. A frequent breakdown of Chinese carburetors is the failure of the injector valve, and such a part is not sold in repair kits. Therefore, it is easier to buy a new carburetor.

But there are breakdowns that can be relatively easily fixed on your own:

Loss of seal between parts of the carburetor body or between the carburetor and the engine. Sometimes it is enough to tighten the fastening screws. In other cases, you can remove the carburetor, replace the gaskets, or use a suitable sealant along with them.

Obvious mechanical problems - deformation of the wire rod from the throttle, sticking of the axes on which the throttle and air dampers rotate - are also easy to fix. The thrusts are straightened. The axle landing sites are lubricated with a drop of oil and free rotation is developed by hand.

Carburetor cleaning

The carburetor air filter needs to be cleaned periodically. They come in different types. From some it is enough to knock out dust and dirt by knocking on wood. Others are washed with soapy water. Still others require disassembly. The fourth ones are almost impossible to clean; they need to be replaced with a new one.

The features of the air filter for each chainsaw and maintenance rules are described in the instruction manual for each specific model.

If there is a filter in the gas tank, nothing can become clogged in the carburetor. If there is still a suspicion that the tiny holes in the jet are clogged, the carburetor is disassembled. The parts are laid out on a clean cloth, remembering which one comes from where. The holes are purged with a pump or compressor. The body and parts are washed in kerosene or gasoline.

There is no need to bring the condition of the filters to such a deplorable state. This greatly affects the performance and life of the chainsaw engine.

Gasoline does not flow into the carburetor: what to do

The fuel line from the gas tank is short and uncomplicated. Three problems may arise in this area:

  • The gasoline supply hose is pinched. The break is found, the hose is straightened or replaced if the round shape is not restored.
  • The filter at the bottom of the gas tank, which is installed on some models of chainsaws, is clogged. It is removed with a thin wire hook, inspected and cleaned. The gas tank is flushed with gasoline.
  • The breather has failed. When fuel is sucked in, a vacuum is created in the gas tank, and fuel flows poorly or does not flow at all. This part cannot be repaired. Most often, the breather is located in a hard-to-reach place, at the outlet of the fuel line from the gas tank. It is replaced with a new one.

Sometimes, instead of repairing the breather, a hole with a diameter of 0.2-0.5 mm is made in the gas tank cap. The downside is that gasoline may leak through the hole during operation, and after operation the chainsaw can only be placed on its side, with the gas tank cap facing up.

How are things going with repair kits?

The repair kit can be purchased at the same retail outlets where carburetors are sold. They are sold in two configurations:

  • rubber-plastic parts (gaskets, diaphragm)
  • the same thing, plus a cross with a needle valve.

It is difficult to find other spare parts separately.

Chainsaws "Poulan" - ideal quality at competitive prices

An American brand that has stood the test of post-war devastation, competition and fame, which could not spoil it in the slightest. It all started in 1944, when K. Poulan, the founder of the company, decided to produce not wartime equipment, but garden tools that would help the country escape from the embrace of the echoes of war. Such units were a curiosity at that time, but were able to quickly occupy an important niche in every household or agricultural enterprise. Today, the power of this company traditionally pleases us with its accessibility to the masses, high quality and long service life. Unlike other global brands, it has remained faithful to its homeland, which is why production facilities are localized exclusively in the USA, which also needs to be taken into account when purchasing Poulan equipment ", marked "made in China" or Europe.

Poulan chainsaws: review of the model range

A household or semi-professional chainsaw is available in almost every private household or farm. The presence of such a tool makes it possible to effectively mechanize most of the labor-intensive work of dumping decommissioned dead wood, collecting firewood, and erecting wooden building structures for various purposes.

The household tools market offers a small selection of American Poulan chainsaws, which successfully compete with similar products from leading European brands. The manufacturer is a well-known company from the USA, which annually produces more than a million units of modern, reliable and affordable chainsaw equipment.

Theory and principles of operation of the fuel system, carburetor design

The principle of operation of the carburetor

In different models of chainsaws, the design of the carburetor may differ, but the principle of operation of this part is always the same: the forced air flow moves in the direction of the air (pulse) channel, the air is regulated by the air damper. Entering the pulse channel, the air changes speed. The change in speed is affected by a special valve that closes the air inlet. Fuel is supplied into the air channel and mixed with the air flow. As a result, a flammable fuel-air mixture is formed, which then enters the engine and burns there.

The components of any carburetor are:

  • aluminum body (solid, cast);
  • jets or valves that regulate the amount of fuel entering the carburetor;
  • float chamber;
  • diffuser;
  • spray.

In Figure 1 you can see the location of the key components of the carburetor, and in Figure 2 you can see the appearance of the chainsaw carburetor. To properly adjust the carburetor, the chainsaw owner should know on what principle this part works:

  • when the engine starts, the air damper opens;
  • due to the stroke of the piston, rarefied air is formed inside the float chamber and in the air channel;
  • then the mass of air is sucked through the diffuser, where it is mixed with fuel, which also passed through the fitting into the float chamber, thus creating a fuel-air mixture entering the intake channels;
  • the last stage is the mixture entering the engine combustion chamber.

By adjusting the position of the damper, the chainsaw owner can either add air to the fuel or deplete it - this means that the fuel mixture will enter the combustion chamber faster or slower. Carburetor adjustment screws are used to adjust engine speed. An air filter is installed above the carburetor, which cleans the air before it enters the air duct.

The carburetor unit of expensive and medium-cost chainsaws is designed almost identically. Cheap Chinese chainsaws often differ from expensive original chainsaw models in that they lack a number of parts in the carburetor unit. You can read about the features of adjusting the carburetor of Chinese chainsaws later in the article.

Step-by-step sequence of the adjustment process

Before you begin making adjustments, remember:

  • the adjustment is carried out only “hot”, that is, the engine needs to be started and warmed up for 10 minutes;
  • then the adjusting screw is turned counterclockwise and the chainsaw chain is stopped;
  • before adjustment, the chainsaw must be placed on a flat surface, and the saw part must be directed away from the owner;
  • for adjustment, three screws with letter designations are used, H - adjusts the upper speed, controls the main jet, L - adjusts the idle jet, adjusts the low speed, T - adjusts the idle speed.

Carburetor adjustment step by step:

  • Scroll screw L from left to right, or from right to left, find the maximum engine speed, then return 1/4 turn back;
  • do the same actions with screw H;
  • the chainsaw should run for a few seconds, the maximum engine speed is determined using a tachometer - their indicator should not exceed the maximum specified in the instructions for the chainsaw;
  • if the chain moves in idle mode, turn screw T in the direction of chain movement until the chain stops completely (idle speed is always adjusted only by screw T, which is rotated from right to left - counterclockwise - until the chain stops completely).
  • the threaded fastener has weakened, air penetrates through the resulting gap;
  • the jets are clogged with resinous deposits and need to be flushed with acetone;
  • The ignition is not adjusted.

Installing a chainsaw carburetor. Or how not to pay repairmen!

Using a chainsaw makes life much easier even for an amateur, and in some professions this tool is almost indispensable. However, like any relatively complex device, a chainsaw requires periodic maintenance. Due to untimely or inadequate maintenance and due to the impact of both planned and excessive loads, various malfunctions can occur. For professionals, interruptions or unstable operation of the saw reduces work efficiency or can lead to a ruined workday. One of the most common malfunctions is incorrect adjustment of the chainsaw carburetor, which gets lost due to unsuccessful attempts to adjust or switch the adjusting screws for other reasons.

Symptoms of malfunctions and failures that require carburetor adjustment.

The following signs and malfunctions indicate the need for carburetor adjustment:

  • the engine starts with deformation and stops almost instantly;
  • gasoline consumption is excessively high, the exhaust is too thick, the combustible mixture in the cylinder does not burn completely;
  • the factory settings of the chainsaw carburetor were lost (due to vibrations or unsuccessful attempts at adjustment);
  • malfunction of the air purification system, which led to debris entering the fuel distribution mechanism;
  • significant wear of the piston group. Carburetor adjustment
    in this case acts as a temporary measure.

It is clear that when dirt gets into the fuel system with one installation, the problem cannot be solved. washing is required. If the piston is worn, a major overhaul is required. However, in all these cases the carburetor is also tuned.

Purpose, design and principle of operation of the carburetor.

The carburetor is necessary to prepare the fuel-air mixture for engine power. If the proportions in this mixture are incorrect, engine operation is interrupted. If proportion to the increase in the amount of fuel is not observed, the mixture is said to be supersaturated, if fuel, on the other hand, is unlikely to be present. At work, the engine is both not the best way.

In different chainsaw models, carburetors differ in design, but they are basically similar in operation. The air flow moves at high speed along the air channel. A damper that closes the channel allows you to change the speed of the air stream. The fuel is fed through the atomizer into the channel, where it is mixed with the incoming air, forming a fuel-air mixture. The resulting mixture enters the engine.

The pressure in the float chamber, where the fuel is mixed before mixing, is almost equal to atmospheric pressure. But the air passage creates a vacuum so that fuel is drawn into the air stream. The more the flap opens, the faster the air moves and the amount of fuel increases. engine speed increases. Therefore, it is easy to imagine the principle of a carburetor.

Advantages and disadvantages

Speaking about technical characteristics and parameters, ergonomics and efficiency, reliability of materials, mechanism and parts, the American Poulan saw has a lot of advantages.

  • reasonable price for tools, spare parts, repairs and maintenance;
  • reliability and excellent quality, which guarantee a long service life without frequent and serious breakdowns;
  • economical consumption of fuel and lubrication oil;
  • ergonomic design, convenient design of the body and position of the handle, so that the operator does not get tired;
  • good vibration absorption system.

Speaking about shortcomings in the design and operation of the Poulan 2150 chainsaw, relying on reviews and the manual for the tool, it is difficult to identify them even after several years of active use.

Reviews

Reviews that can be found on the Internet:

I do part-time work in forestry. The workers there use, of course, professional saws, and they gave me a Poulan chainsaw. I liked the unit, it is easy to start and convenient. Vibrates to a minimum, works for a long time without cooling, even when it’s hot outside. (Dmitriy).

I have been using a Poulan saw for almost 5 years, the experience is positive, I am satisfied with the reliability of the plastic parts. (Fedor).

Of course, there are reviews pointing out some shortcomings of these saws. For example, owners talk about the lack of visible control of the amount of fuel and oil in filling containers.

Poulan chainsaws are a tool whose different models are very convenient for household work. Based on the majority of owner reviews, we can talk about reliability, high quality, and good characteristics of American Poulan saws. Despite some shortcomings indicated by customers, these chainsaws are a good option at an affordable price.

Chainsaw engine malfunction

Signs of a chainsaw engine malfunction:

– the engine does not start – the engine runs unsteadily – the engine starts, but very often stalls – the engine quickly overheats – the engine runs normally at idle, but “chokes” under load – the engine smokes heavily, power drops

In certain situations, it is better to seek help from professionals and take your saw to an authorized service center. But you can deal with some problems yourself.

In general, in order to eliminate the cause itself, you must first correctly identify it, otherwise the entire repair will be tantamount to shooting at sparrows from a cannon, and perhaps even shooting at “fictional” sparrows, since there may not be any breakdown.

If you are trying to start a chainsaw, but it does not start, and at the same time does not make any strange sounds that are not typical for it (knocking, grinding), then you are simply starting it incorrectly (if you pull the chainsaw on the choke for a long time, the internal combustion engine is filled with fuel, and then start its difficult).

How to start a cold engine correctly? 1. Set the lever or switch to the “flap closed” position. 2. If the model is equipped with a fuel priming pump, pump the fuel mixture into the carburetor. 3. Pull the starter handle until resistance appears, then vigorously pull in amplitude, moving your hand to the side (2-3 times). No need to try to “rip” the starter cord out of the chainsaw! The saw should start and then stall. 4. If the engine does not start, move the lever to the half-throttle position or to the working position, and try to start the chainsaw in this mode

Please note: some models have a push-button ignition switch, make sure it is turned on

What to do if the engine still doesn’t start? First, unscrew and inspect the spark plug. It happens that when starting a chainsaw in cold weather, the combustion chamber is accidentally filled with fuel mixture. In this case, you should also unscrew the spark plug, dry the combustion chamber by idling, clean the spark plug, and try to start the saw again.

How to check for spark on a spark plug? Place the unscrewed spark plug connected to the high-voltage wire on the cylinder and pull the starter. Be careful! You cannot touch the candle with your hands during this procedure! If you see a blue spark, the spark plug is OK. We screw the spark plug into place and try to start the saw again. If we fail again, we’ll check the connection of the high-voltage wire to the spark plugs, the coil and the ignition system.

Based on the state of the spark plug, you can understand what happened to the saw:

  • Dry candle. Apparently, the fuel mixture will not get into the cylinder. The problem is not in the spark plug, so we screw the spark plug back in. And we check the fuel supply system.
  • A wet, heavily fuel-stained spark plug. The reason for excess fuel is hidden either in violation of the model factory rules, or in incorrect carburetor adjustment.
  • The candle was covered with black soot. This may indicate the use of low-quality oil (so use only original oil for your saw), an incorrectly adjusted carburetor, or an incorrectly prepared fuel mixture. The spark plug needs to be washed, thoroughly cleaned of carbon deposits with an awl or a needle, the electrodes should be wiped with sandpaper and screwed into place.

When checking the spark plug, pay attention to the gap between the electrodes (it should be 0.5 - 0.65 mm). A worn gasket must be replaced

Adjusting the carburetor of the Poulan 2250 chainsaw

The Poulan 2250 chainsaw, like all modern models, has a carburetor adjusted at the factory, but during operation difficulties may arise, which can be resolved by adjusting it. An example of such situations could be chain movement at idle, or problems with idle operation. The solution to both problems is to select the optimal idle speed. It is adjusted with a special screw marked , which is located below the booster pump. The adjustment is carried out using a screwdriver of the appropriate size (the use of a screwdriver is unacceptable). When turning the screw clockwise, the speed increases, and counterclockwise, it decreases. For optimal results, the device must be turned on.

Features of use and safety precautions

In order to avoid injury to the operator, before using the Poulan 2150 chainsaw, it is important to study the operating manual in detail, where special attention is paid to safety precautions.
Only a rested person who is protected by special clothing can operate a Poulan chainsaw. It consists of safety glasses, earmuffs and gloves, fitted but not restrictive clothing and closed, tight boots. Owner reviews of the Poulan 2150 chain saw

All owners leave extremely positive reviews and comments both about the Poulan chainsaw itself and about its work. Very often they note high power and performance, small dimensions and weight, ease of use and economical fluid consumption. The reviews do not contain any comments or complaints about the operation of the Poulan 2150 chainsaw.

Maxim, 31 years old, Moscow

“I use this Poulan saw purely at home, I bought it for personal purposes. For six years, she actively sawed dead wood, prepared firewood, trimmed both thick and thin branches, and even used it a little in construction. She worked perfectly for the entire period, not a single comment. During its entire service life, I replaced the drive sprocket and tire once. I change the saw chain as needed.”

Situations in which adjustment is necessary

New chainsaws are supplied by the manufacturer with already adjusted carburetors. This is called standard adjustment. But for the normal running-in process, it is necessary to reduce the maximum engine speed and adjust the carburetor. After break-in, the chainsaw needs fine tuning to achieve maximum engine efficiency.

If there is too much fuel in the mixture, engine parts are poorly lubricated and premature wear occurs. Also, a poor quality mixture can cause the engine to jam due to overheating (this is one of the reasons why the chainsaw will not start).

This is what a jammed, overheated piston looks like from a disassembled chainsaw with an incorrectly configured carburetor.

Adjustment is necessary when the engine does not idle, stalls, or does not develop full power. Carburetor adjustment should be carried out with clean air and fuel filters. We also recommend reading an interesting article that details the main reasons why a chainsaw starts and immediately stalls.
