The RTM-160 tractor is an agricultural machine for plowing fields, high-quality harvesting, and subsequent cultivation of the planted crop. Manufactured by the Uralvagonzavod concern, the RTM 160 tractor has proven itself excellent in collecting the following products: beets, all kinds of vegetables, tall types of crops. The unit can be connected to attachments that are attached to the front or rear mounts on the RTM 160 frame. Containers are attached to the frame, which help in planting seeds, spreading liquid or bulk fertilizers, and watering the field with herbicides. When attaching a plow, the process of plowing the field takes place at a depth of 30 cm from the surface. For a high level of cross-country ability, the vehicle is equipped with a 6 by 6 wheel pair. In addition to agriculture, it can be used in the forestry industry, public utilities, and Rosavtodor. The first products began to be delivered in 2004, production was completed in 2009. Most of the units were sold to the Sverdlovsk region, Krasnodar region, the republics of Udmurtia and Tatarstan. Export models went to work in Bulgaria. An achievement is the awarding of a silver medal at the Zolotaya Niva competition, held in May 2011. The unit gave the gold to the manufacturer Claas from Germany.

The manufacturer of the RT-M 160 tractor is the defense concern Uralvagonzavod, known since the Second World War. During the war years, it was forced to reorient itself from defense engineering to industrial and agricultural engineering.
The unit was in demand not only among domestic farmers. A third of the products were exported to the Baltic countries, etc.
The functional tractor RTM-160 was developed by the designers of the Ural plant and already in 2003 the first wheeled multifunctional tractor machine was assembled. The tests lasted for a year and in December 2004, the management of Uralvagonzavod decided to launch mass production of RT-M-160 tractors.

The car was appreciated, but there were still some shortcomings that required attention from designers and engineers. The change of management at Uralvagonzavod ended fatally for this functional tractor and already in 2009 the plant stopped production. Small private enterprises seized the initiative and continued small-scale production of this equipment, however, there was no one to modify and improve the machine.

Despite all the difficulties, the RT-M-160 tractor was exhibited at the international exhibition “Golden Niva” in Geneva, where it received a silver medal and, accordingly, second place, losing the championship to the German Claas.
Today it can be found on sale, and its price varies from 800 thousand to 1 million rubles.
The high assessment of the characteristics, reliability and performance of the tractor, which was classified as traction class 2-3, did not influence the management of the Ural enterprise and the tractor was forgotten.
Machine structure
The RTM 160 tractor produced by the Uralvagonzavod concern is equipped with a manual gearbox. The difference between this gearbox and the LTZ-155 gearbox is the presence of working helical gears, which are constantly meshed with each other. The box was divided into 4 speed ranges, each with 4 speed gears. Four PTOs are provided. The suspension system controls four wheels simultaneously. The differentials on the rear and front axles are locked in forced and automatic modes, respectively. To carry out inter-row cultivation of the field, the width of the wheels for passing the rows can be adjusted and the following limits can be set: 450, 600, 700, 750, 900 millimeters. The high maneuverability of the unit is explained by the full control of all wheels of the unit. A tracking-type rotary device ensures that the rear pair of wheels follows the track of the front pair completely or in reverse. Due to this, the radius when making a turn is reduced, and damage to the soil and planted crop is minimized.

During the short period of its existence, the RT-M-160 tractor has undergone several transformations; the designers created the following modifications of this functional agricultural machine:
- RT-M-160 - basic model, rear wheel steering is mechanical, front wheels are automatic.

- The RTM-160 is based on a frame structure with an all-wheel drive layout, with four identical wheels. The presence of a differential lock for the rear axle improves off-road capabilities. The method of locking the rear axle is forced, while the front axle can be locked automatically.
