Engine characteristics
First, the K 700 modification with a power of 220 hp was produced, then the improved K 700a. They differ in engine types. The K 700a variation has a YaMZ-238 ND diesel engine with a power of 235 hp. The next version of the Kirovets K 701, whose power reached 300 hp. due to the installation of the YaMZ-240 . The K 700 engine is located in the front of the tractor. It is mounted on special shock absorbers. Their number is three. The number of engine cylinders depends on the model. Makes 8-12 pieces.

To start the engine there is an electric starter. In the cold season, starting is facilitated by an equipped pre-heating system. The power unit is equipped with a two-stage air purification mechanism. The air first enters the suction pipe, then into the air cleaner. A two-stage cleansing takes place there. Then it enters the cylinders. The motor has a closed cooling system. It consists of a compensation circuit and a circulation mechanism for the movement of coolant.
Cabin
The tractor cabin is a two-seat, noise- and heat-insulating all-steel body. A stove and ventilation are provided. In the 20th century, such a cabin was considered a modern version. Thanks to the sealing, there is virtually no dust in the interior. There are shock absorbers for a comfortable ride. When climbing into the cabin there are steps with handrails.

Fuel consumption
The fuel tank contains 450 liters. The specific fuel consumption is 266 g/kW per hour.
Factors
One of the issues in checking the financial and economic activities of an enterprise is how orders on fuel consumption for vehicles are applied. The Ministry of Transport and Communications has developed linear consumption standards, which must be taken into account by all vehicle owners, regardless of ownership status and departmental hierarchy.
An example of a linear norm is the volume of fuel that is consumed by a tractor per 100 km, without taking into account the increase or decrease in fuel consumption. Organizational leaders set the amount of growth or decline as a percentage.
What are the first things to consider when using these standardized values? First of all, you must follow the instructions for use.
Why is tractor consumption rate important? Once you calculate all the associated costs, you can determine your budget. However, when calculating, you should pay attention to related factors that also affect the final figure. Level of soil unevenness, frequency of load mode changes, runout in the tow hitch, etc. All this determines the cost of fuel.
The current technical condition is considered the most important factor affecting consumption. An inspection is always carried out before starting work.
In addition, diesel fuel consumption rates for tractors are influenced by:
- Driving style
- Road conditions and terrain
- Vehicle load capacity and load factor.
Device
The first modification of the K 700 is distinguished by the absence of a clutch. The oil pressure in the transmission is reduced by the drain pedal. The transmission is equipped with four hydraulic gears and two neutral ones. Power does not decrease when switching.
The K 700a model is equipped with a manual transmission that has endless mesh gears and friction clutches for hydraulic drive when changing gears. The chassis is represented by four main wheels. They are single-pitched and without a disc. Tire parameters: 23.1/18-26 inches. The tread has the shape of deep depressions. In case of difficult passage situations, it is possible to install a wheel doubling mechanism. Shoe brakes are provided for braking. The tractor frame is formed by two half-frames connected by a hinge. The tractor is moved by means of “breakable frames”. The tractor has two axles: front and rear. The rear axle may be disabled. And also both bridges are automatically blocked if necessary.
The front suspension is equipped with two semi-elliptical longitudinal springs. The rear axle is connected to the frame without shock absorbers.

Purpose of the K-700 product
The Kirovets K-700 tractor allows you to carry out different types of work:
- agricultural;
- transport;
- road;
- land;
- reclamation.
The new model made it possible to speed up the execution of work related to sowing crops, loosening the soil, plowing, disking, and cultivation. A new type of model K-700 was released in 1962 in the summer of July. After 7 years, the enterprises moved on to creating a machine called Kirovets. The Kirov and Leningrad plants began serial production of the Kirovets tractor in 1975.
Later, the K-700 model (engine - 200 kW) new improved K-701 tractors appeared, which had the following parameters:
- increased motor power (300 kW);
- wider wheels, reducing pressure on the soil;
- presence of a 2nd fuel tank;
- modern design;
- rigid suspension;
- modified design of semi-frames.
The newest 300-horsepower tractors were equipped with a rigid suspension, which provided the basis for various types of attachments:
- bulldozers;
- skating rinks;
- loaders;
- scrapers, etc.
Then the K-703 modification began to be produced with a reversible control post, which ensured normal operation of the tractor driver when the machine was moving forward and backward. In February 2002, the Kirovets K a700 and K-701 tractors were discontinued. The factories switched to serial production of the K-744 model, the modernization of which led to the fact that the tractor began to have a high cost.
Advantages and disadvantages
Kirovets has the following advantages:
- high efficiency;
- ease of operation;
- low fuel consumption;
- maneuverability;
- maintainability;
- excellent cross-country ability.
Among the disadvantages of the technology are the following:
- noise during operation;
- possibility of a rollover due to the engine being shifted forward.
The weight of K 700 influenced the specific pressure of the equipment on the soil surface, which negatively affected the properties of the fertilized soil.
Pros and cons of the car
The Kirovets tractor is characterized by great repairability. The equipment is comfortable, reliable, simple and easy to use. Spare parts for K-700 are available. Taking into account the low cost of the machines, the popularity of the K-700 tractors is quite understandable. Although the equipment has been discontinued, it is nevertheless successful in agricultural work.
Favorite agricultural machinery based on the k700 was produced for 40 years until 2002. By decision of the enterprise management, Kirovets was discontinued because it no longer met safety requirements.
The popularity of the model was due to its high performance, durability and ease of maintenance. This type of equipment could easily cope with all tasks in regions with different climates, however, the pressure of the tractor on the ground surface was criticized by agronomists.
The comfortable handling of the Kirovets was called into question, as the car could roll over due to the uneven road. This was explained by the engine, which was too large and moved forward. But consumer demand for cheap but productive technical equipment has remained the same, so the enterprise in St. Petersburg continues to produce special-purpose equipment based on the K-700.
The versatility of the tractor is due to the ability to combine the machine with various types of attachments. The production of special and road equipment, tractors is necessary for various types of agricultural work. This is proof that the first Kirovets tractor passed all the tests for a reason.
The model outperformed various modifications of similar equipment from the Soviet period by 3 times.
For 20 years, American manufacturers could not produce a model that would compete with the Kirovets K-700. Thanks to the efforts of Kirov engineers and designers, the first model K 700 tractor had an increased strength class.
To make its components, only strong materials were used, which made it possible to increase the working life of the tractor. Maintenance of equipment in the presence of a spacious cabin could be carried out by only 1 person. In case of war, a special role was assigned to the Kirovets - a heavy tractor.
The machine is characterized by the presence of significant design defects. The power plant is mounted on the front half frame. The significant power of the power unit can upset the balance of the tractor, which may end up overturned on an inclined plane (which puts the tractor driver at risk of injury).
The excellent grip claimed by the manufacturer is not really true. The tractor tires and articulated frame do not fully meet all requirements. Domestic craftsmen often have to add water to their tires.
The downside is the significant weight of the technical equipment: how much fertile land can such a unit damage during agricultural work!
Photo
Both axles in the tractor were driven, while the rear axle could be disabled. The rotation was controlled by two hydraulic cylinders and a hydraulic distributor.
The K-700 received a two-seater, sealed, all-metal operator's cabin with shock absorbers. A favorable climate was created in it through ventilation, heating and thermal insulation. The driver's seat was sprung with a hydraulic shock absorber.
How much does the K-700 tractor cost, new and used?
The production of "Kirovets" continues to this day. The cost of a new K-700 (corresponding modified modification) starts from 2.5 million rubles. Prices for used tractors vary significantly from year to year. Thus, a used K-700 tractor from 2004-2010 will cost 1.5-2 million, and a used K-700 tractor from 1990-2000 will cost 300-900 thousand rubles.
Analogs
- The K-744 model, which is now produced in St. Petersburg, is considered an analogue of the K-700. But it costs much more. So, it is unlikely that you will be able to find normal used models for less than 700 thousand.
- Another analogue of the Kirovets is the UDM-5K tractor, produced in St. Petersburg. Its cost is slightly higher than the cost of the K-700.
- again, there are foreign “substitutes” for this model on the market. First of all, these are Chinese products.
The nuances of independently calculating fuel consumption
An initial calculation of the amount of fuel consumed by a tractor makes it possible to determine further costs for agricultural machinery. To obtain data to determine this parameter, the unit must drive at least 100 km. Next, you can calculate the amount of fuel consumed. To obtain the most accurate data, the tractor used must be in perfect technical condition.
To calculate the costs of both gasoline and diesel fuel, you should use the following data:
Appearance
The K-701 tractor has a simple and ascetic design. Aesthetics is perhaps the last thing that Soviet engineers cared about. After all, the country needed powerful and productive tractors.
“Kirovets” is one of the few domestic tractors that has a rotating frame. This provided the vehicle with high maneuverability. At the front there was a simple metal bumper with round headlights and turn signals. At the rear there are primitive lights and a towbar. The latter was unified with other models of the 700 series. A distinctive feature of the Kirovets is its wheels. They have equal dimensions, which are unusual for tractors, and are capable of operating at low pressure. This provides the vehicle with excellent cross-country ability. Above the front left wing there is a “pan” with an air intake. It is taken to the highest possible level. The exhaust is also located nearby. On the roof there are also
parking lights
And
additional lights.
