The EKG-10 model is a large electric quarry full-rotary mechanical shovel with a caterpillar drive, which is exactly what the abbreviation indicates (crawler quarry excavator). This model was developed by the Ural Machine-Building Plant). Among the entire model range, the EKG-10 crawler excavator is one of the most productive machines. The high power characteristics of the model make it possible to use the equipment when performing highly labor-intensive earthmoving work, since this type requires exceptionally powerful equipment. It is worth noting that this is precisely what influenced the development of ECG-10. The equipment has quite specific characteristics and parameters, however, the model’s great popularity was achieved due to the ability to adapt the machine to solve many different problems. In addition, the excavator has a very high maintainability, but its repair is carried out only by specialized service centers that are capable of thoroughly testing the electrical and mechanical components of the excavator. When replacing problematic components and parts, there will not be any problems, since all spare parts and removable structural elements are quite widespread.

Excavator design. Undercarriage

The running trolley of the EKG-10 excavator consists of the following parts: lower frame; crawler; gear ring with lower ring rail; final drive with brake; hydraulic brake control system; crawler clutch.

The ring gear and roller circle, which the undercarriage contains, serve to mount the turntable. The trolley is connected to the platform by a central axle, and it also serves as the basis for the installation of technical systems.

The running mechanism is driven by an electric motor, which is installed on the front wall of the lower frame.

The pneumatic system is designed to control lifting, turning, pressure brakes, blowing dust off electrical equipment, giving an audible signal and driving a variety of pneumatic tools with compressed air from a single-stage 2-cylinder compressor, supply 580 liters per minute, operating pressure 0.7 MPa.

The undercarriage is equipped with a hydraulic drive device, which determines the adjustment of the functioning of the track brake clutches. The hydraulic system serves to control the brake of the running gear and the track switching mechanism. The main parts of the hydraulic system are located on the rear wall of the lower frame of the excavator.

The movement of the excavator occurs due to the track frames, which are equipped with track chains and wheels. The running device is located in the rear area. Compressor equipment supplies compressed air to the pressure brake system, rotary device and winch.

There is no gearbox for this special vehicle. Therefore, it moves only at one speed.

Rotating platform with mechanisms

The rotating platform is equipped with: a lifting winch, two rotating mechanisms, electrical equipment, a pneumatic system, a two-legged stand, a boom winch and a body. The excavator driver's cabin is located in the front right part of its rotary platform.

The turntable rests on the undercarriage through a roller circle and is connected to it by a central axle. A high-voltage current collector is located between the rotating and lower frames.

The boom lift winch is driven by an electric bucket lift winch motor.

The pressure mechanism is driven by an electric motor, on the shaft of which a gear is attached, which meshes with the gear of the intermediate shaft of the gearbox.

The rotary mechanism consists of 2 identical units. Each of these units has a vertical electric motor with a flange, which rests on the gearbox housing.

Working equipment of the EKG-10 excavator

The EKG-10 working equipment includes a bucket, a bucket handle, a bucket opening mechanism, a boom with a pressure mechanism and a two-legged stand. The lower end of the boom rests on the thrust bearings of the turntable, and its upper end is supported by a rope pulley.

The EKG-10 excavator bucket consists of two walls - front and rear, a bottom, a rocker arm and a cage with an equalizing block. The front wall is made of high-manganese steel, equipped with 5 removable teeth made of the same steel. The front wall and teeth are surfaced with a hard alloy of the “Sormite” type. The bucket body is connected with fingers to the rocker arm and bottom.

The bucket device is secured with strong bolts and fixed flange fastenings. At the joints, gaps and movement of elements under increased loads are eliminated. The handle and bucket are moved by means of a saddle bearing device, which has adjustable top and side rollers to indicate the purpose of the handle.

The bucket handle is made up of 2 welded beams of rectangular cross-section, which are made of low-alloy steel sheets, with welded solid-rolled slats. The base part of the handle has a return semi-block with a hard surface. A 2-sided damper is installed at the end of the handle, which helps prevent rotation of the special vehicle.

The boom is a welded metal structure with a box-shaped section. A pressure mechanism, head blocks, boom rope blocks and a bucket opening winch are mounted on the boom of the EKG-10 excavator. In order to strengthen stability, the boom is attached to the rotary platform of the excavator with side rods.

Electrical equipment EKG-10

The EKG-10 excavator receives power from a high-voltage switching point. The power consumption of the special vehicle in half-hour operating mode is in the range of 250-275 kW, with a weighted average power factor of 0.6. To power the EKG-10 excavator from the switching point, a high-voltage cable KSHVG-3x16+1x6 is used - in temperate climates; or KShVG-T-3x25+1xYu - in a tropical climate.

To control the high-voltage electric motor Ag-M (5-machine converting unit) and the auxiliary power transformer Tr 1, a small-sized high-voltage switchgear RU is used with a general disconnector, an oil switch for a trip current of 1.25 kA, equipped with a manual drive, and fuses on 8 or 16 Amperes, with a supply voltage of 6 thousand Volts or 3 thousand Volts, respectively.

Relay current protection, as well as lightning overvoltage protection and metering of consumed electricity costs are guaranteed by the consumer at an electrical substation or switching point. The EKG-10 excavator body is grounded to the quarry grounding circuit through the grounding conductor of the KShVG cable.

The power supply to the lifting, pressure, rotation and travel motors is carried out according to the system: generator - direct current motor, controlled from power magnetic amplifiers UK-UMSP, UK-UMSN, UK-UMSV by cam command controllers KKP, KKH, KKB. The control system includes blocks and assemblies that ensure the stability of the mechanical characteristics of the main drives when the temperature of electrical machines changes: current limiting blocks - UK-BTOP, UK-BTON, UK-BTOV; block for stabilization of excitation currents of motors of main drives - UK-BCTB; automatic digging unit -UK-BAK.

On the EKG-10 excavator, it monitors the insulation state of the 220 Volt AC electrical network RU-R, as well as power and DC control circuits.

The handle and boom of EKG-10 excavators are made of high-strength steel, while other, no less important elements are made of alloy steel.

The excavator has a two-track undercarriage with a separate drive for each track. The crawler track has a low-support open type, which provided increased access to these elements during repair work. The tracks have built-in hydraulic cylinders, through which the track belts are tensioned.

The running motors in this model were supplemented with forced ventilation.

Modifications of the EKG-10 excavator

The EKG-10 excavator is the basic model. To use this technology in various technological schemes, the following modifications were developed on its basis:

  • EKG-10M – with an expanded bucket, a volume of 11.5 cubic meters and greater fillability of the bucket when used in coal mines. The main bucket is intended for rocks with a total volume and weight of no more than 2.7 t/m3.
  • EKG-10P – with a bucket with a capacity of 8 cubic meters. The EKG-10R excavator is distinguished by an increased lifting force - up to 110 tons (instead of 100 tons) and an in-line lifting winch with an increased center-to-center distance of the gearbox. On its rotating platform there are plates and holes for fixing both in-line and planetary lifting gearboxes.

Purpose

The device is used in loading operations and when extracting rocks from the ground. It also makes it easier to lift heavy elements during the construction of huge structures and industrial buildings. Main areas of use :

The great popularity of the EKG-10 model was achieved due to the ability to adapt the special vehicle to solve many different problems. Compared to previous similar models of electric excavators, this special equipment has several characteristic differences and improvements. In particular, these are elongated working parts.

Price

The ECG 10 model is an expensive piece of equipment. The price of a new car is 130,000,000-160,000,000 rubles based on the installed type of additional equipment. An excavator made in the early 90s can be purchased for 45,000,000-50,000,000 rubles. Later models are sold for 10,000,000 rubles. As for the possibility of renting, the price is quite high: 30,000-50,000 rubles per shift. In addition, rental offers are difficult to find.

Analogues and prices of EKG-10 excavators

It is interesting that the EKG-10 tracked electric excavator was created with an eye on foreign models - from the manufacturers Bucyrus and Marion. The special equipment of these companies has been used in the Soviet Union since Stalin's times.

In the subsequent history of the USSR, they served as the technical basis for the creation and development of a fairly large number of mechanical shovels. Therefore, many models of domestically produced electric excavators have some significant similarities with their foreign counterparts. So the ECG-10 has some design elements that are completely similar to those that were used in the Marion 37, Marion 4160, Marion 4120, Bucyrus 50V, and Bucyrus 120V excavator models.

You can purchase a used EKG-10 excavator in 2022 at prices ranging from 6 to 98 million rubles, depending on the year of manufacture and the technical condition of each specific special vehicle.

Device

Compared to previous models, this technique has many characteristic differences. What immediately catches your eye is the elongated working parts, which are especially useful when laying primary trenches or communicating with vehicles located at a higher level.

The excavator is divided into the following components:

EKG-10 is able to cope with all difficulties, including rocks of the fifth density category. The design of the excavator has a low-support tracked undercarriage, which allows the equipment to climb inclines of up to 12 degrees.

It should be noted that the prototype of the EKG-10 crawler excavator was foreign models from manufacturers such as Bucyrus and Marion. These models were purchased back in the mid-1930s by the main government of the USSR. Subsequently, they served as the basis for the creation and development of quite a large number of mechanical shovels. Therefore, many domestic models have some similarities with foreign ones. Thus, the ECG-10 has some elements that are completely similar to those found in the Marion 37, Marion 4160, Marion 4120, Bucyrus 50V, and Bucyrus 120V models.

The manufacturer provided several variations of equipment that were designed specifically to work with certain climatic conditions. Such machines received a letter designation at the end of the index. Let's look at this in more detail:

  • Designation "U". Indicates that the equipment was specifically designed for use in temperate climates. The temperature range at which the excavator is fully operational ranges from minus 40 degrees Celsius to plus 40 degrees Celsius.
  • Designation "HL". This technique is the most resistant to extreme temperatures, and the abbreviation itself stands for cold-resistant. The maximum temperature at which the machine operates properly is minus 60 degrees Celsius.
  • Designation "C". Machines with this designation are often used when working in northern regions, since they are able to withstand ambient temperatures from minus 50 degrees Celsius to plus 40 degrees Celsius.
  • Designation "T". This equipment is designed to work in tropical climates at temperatures from minus 20 degrees Celsius to plus 55 degrees Celsius.

The design of the ECG-10 consists of a rotating platform equipped with a pair of special mechanisms; undercarriage; working equipment, including a boom with a pressure mechanism, a bucket, a mechanism for opening the bucket, a two-legged stand and a handle.

The key elements of the excavator are the lower frame, counterweight housing, swing frame, and boom housing. All of these are welded metal structures made from sheets and castings. The main frame, equipped with a counterweight housing, serves as the basis for the turntable. This frame has two special platforms located on the sides. In the body of the turntable, the manufacturer placed two gearboxes responsible for rotating the structure, a transformer, a boom lifting winch, a special high-voltage switchgear and a compressor unit that operates the pneumatic system.

The counterweight housing has a five-machine converting unit. At the bottom of the turntable there is a winch, which is responsible for raising and lowering the excavator boom. In order to increase the service life of the machine, the manufacturer securely covered all the main mechanisms with the body, which made it possible to protect these elements from various environmental influences. When maintaining equipment, this solution will not cause any particular difficulties, since most of the body consists of removable panels, which not only provides full access to mechanisms and components, but also allows you to replace large units without any special problems. The front part of the rotary platform traditionally consists of a control station and a driver’s cabin, where control equipment and excavator controls are concentrated.

The entire superstructure was installed on the undercarriage by means of a gear ring and a roller circle (slewing support mechanism) and is connected to it by a central axle. All working equipment of the model is also installed here.

The EKG-10 undercarriage consists of a welded lower frame, to which track frames, track chains, as well as tension and support wheels are installed on both sides. The caterpillars operate through a special running mechanism located on the rear wall. The pneumatic system available on the excavator was installed for a reason. Thanks to this system, elements such as the pressure and slewing brakes, and the boom lifting winch are activated. But in addition to this, the technique also used a hydraulic system installed on a running trolley. It allows you to adjust the operation of the track shift clutches and the undercarriage brakes.

Cabin

The inside of the cabin is quite spacious. The large field of view provides good visibility for the operator. The seat is adjusted by a stationary remote control. Thanks to the presence of sound and vibration insulation, comfortable working conditions are created for the operator. For operation in hot weather there is an air conditioner, and in cold weather there is a heater.
