Oil level in the gearbox of the walk-behind tractor. How and how much oil to pour into the gearbox of a Salyut walk-behind tractor

Device

Box. This is a special device that is included in the design of any walk-behind tractor. This very part is responsible for converting and transmitting the torque created by mechanical transmissions. In fact, the gearbox

sets the walk-behind tractor in motion, making it work.

The service life of the entire walk-behind tractor, as well as its normal functioning, will depend on its properties, as well as on the correct lubrication of its components.

For more information about the gearbox, see:

Depending on the walk-behind tractor model, be it Cayman, Patriot Ural, Patriot, Texas, Foreman, or any other, the boxes may differ in certain design features. Conventionally, gearboxes can be divided into several types:

  • Angular reducers. Such units are quite effective; they allow you to connect the engine and gearbox.
  • Gear reducers. In this case, the box acts as a typical intermediary between the engine and the wheelbase of the walk-behind tractor.
  • Gearboxes. These units achieve an increase in power characteristics by lowering the overall number of revolutions. Such gearboxes are more desirable because they are designed with an air cooling system, which allows them to work with critical loads.
  • Reverse gearboxes. The main advantage of such gearboxes. possibility to reverse the walk-behind tractor. But units equipped with a gearbox of this type do not demonstrate great features and speeds.

Regardless of which box is used in the design of the walk-behind tractor, they all consist of virtually the same components:

  • Shaft;
  • Carter boxes;
  • Flange and its fastening;
  • Pulley with V-belt drive (or chain);
  • Bearing;
  • Asterisks;
  • Drain plug;
  • Iron washer and nut;
  • Input shaft.

These components usually form the gearbox

. Their performance and lifespan will depend on how well they are lubricated.

Otherwise, if there is insufficient lubrication, the parts will wear out greatly, since they will come into contact together during operation, and the resulting friction will have a bad effect on their surface.

Owner reviews

Dmitry, Novgorod:

“The car, of course, is not easy. It took time to adapt to work. The weight of the walk-behind tractor is felt very well, but this is an absolute plus: it handles dry soils perfectly, I have never used weights. It consumes little gasoline, especially in comparison with the neighboring "Cascade", I specifically compared and asked. I was pleased with the functionality, in general, I don’t regret buying this walk-behind tractor.”

Ilya, Kaluga region:

“I received this walk-behind tractor as a gift from my father. I worked for several months, or rather all spring and summer. Now stored in the garage. I was choosing between Ugra and Neva, I chose Ugra because of the reviews plus the seller’s advice. According to my father, and he is an experienced farmer, the walk-behind tractor has a lot of advantages: first, there are no belts, no need to change; The engine, although Chinese, consumes moderately and is not noisy. There are no complaints about working on the ground at all - he rushes like a tank. I recommend purchasing!”

Changing the oil in a walk-behind tractor: what and how much to fill in the gearbox

The presence of a walk-behind tractor in a personal household cannot surprise anyone, because this technical device has been understood since Russian times. Thanks to him, quick and high-quality cultivation of the land became possible, which previously took quite a lot of time and also required enormous effort.

But in order for your walk-behind tractor, as they say, to serve you correctly, often plowing the ground and performing its other functions, you need to manage it correctly.

In principle, all the necessary information is usually indicated in the instruction manual for a specific walk-behind tractor model, where the brands and brands of recommended oils are directly indicated.

But there are cases when a walk-behind tractor is purchased second-hand, or by another method, but the fact is that such walk-behind tractors are supplied mainly without any annotation.

A person may get confused, not knowing what kind of oil is poured into the box of a walk-behind tractor, so it is useful for him to know about its main types, as well as methods of pouring into a walk-behind tractor.

What kind of oil is poured?

Many people are interested in what kind of oil to pour into the box of a walk-behind tractor? To answer this question, you need to take into account several reasons, the main one of which is. Manufacturer's recommendation regarding oil type.

It is also necessary to focus on cost, without buying very cheap waters, since they are unlikely to be of adequate quality.

In general, oils come in different types:

  • SAE. These types of oils tolerate sudden temperature changes very well, so they can be used all year round.
  • The selection process looks like this: you need to look at the number that appears in front of the letter W; the lowest value will indicate that the oil
    is very well adapted to low temperatures (less than 0W).
    If there is no letter W on the label, then this oil
    is suitable for the summer period.
  • API. In this case, the letters in the marking will indicate the type of gasoline or diesel engine. Accordingly, one letter will say that the oil is suitable for gasoline units, and the other will say. for diesel.
  • The numbers indicate the type of engine, i.e. the number four means that the oil should be used for a 4-stroke engine, etc. EC value. this is the degree of energy savings, i.e. The higher the value, the better the oil.
  • SEA. The highest number on the label indicates that the oil can work in very difficult conditions.
  • GOST 17479, 1-85. These indicators characterize the degree of viscosity of the oil. As a rule, alphabetic and numerical values are written after this parameter, and their absence indicates that the oil is universal.

How much to fill?

Another important point. required amount of oil. Before answering the question of how much oil should be poured into the gearbox of a walk-behind tractor, for example, Crossser, Viking, Forza, Sadko, Don, Huter, Profi, Plowman, Champion, Carver, you must first check the oil level. In the gearbox. To do this, you need to perform certain actions:

  • The walk-behind tractor must be placed on a flat surface so that its wings are strictly parallel to this surface.
  • We take a wire or rod about seventy cm long, which will act as an oil dipstick.
  • We bend the homemade probe into an arc.
  • We insert the resulting dipstick into the filler hole to the very end, i.e. All the way. After that we take it back out.

If the box is completely dry, then at least two liters of gear oil will be required.

Transmission oils for filling into gasoline and diesel walk-behind tractors

As for the gearbox, transmission oils must be used to fill it. For example, a good choice would be semi-synthetic oil ZIC 10W40, intended for gasoline and diesel walk-behind tractors. API index SM/CF, ACEA A3/B3, A3/B4, C3.

Another decent oil. Super T-3 85W-90 from Gazpromneft. Its technical data will be as follows:

  • API GL-5 indicator;
  • Viscosity grade 85W90;
  • Temperature indicator of loss of fluidity. 280C;
  • Flash point two thousand one hundred seventy °C;
  • Package length two hundred and seventy mm;
  • Packaging width one hundred and thirty mm;
  • Package height two hundred and forty mm.

This gear oil is also supplied in a 4-liter container, the cost of which is approximately six hundred rubles.

This is not the entire list of oils that can be poured into the gearbox of a walk-behind tractor. In principle, any person familiar with the basic parameters of oil can independently determine what is needed for his walk-behind tractor.

Major breakdowns

Cascade walk-behind tractors have gained immense popularity due to the large number of compatible attachments and easy maintainability.
You can easily configure and repair almost all parts of the equipment. The most common reason for parts failure is their natural wear and tear. In order for the walk-behind tractor to serve for a long time, it is necessary to carry out tuning and regular scheduled technical inspections.

The main malfunctions include:

  • Problems with spark plugs (contact came loose, gap changed, oxidized)
  • Lack of oil (you need to check its level before each trip);
  • The gasket on the cylinder is worn out;
  • Dirt and debris have entered the fuel system (so gasoline does not flow into the carburetor);
  • The tension of the chain or belt on the pulley has changed (as a result, the torque changes).

Let's take a closer look at the main breakdowns and ways to repair them.

  • The transmission gets very hot during operation

The main reasons for this behavior are worn bearings, friction, lack of gear oil or its poor quality. The first thing you should try is to replace the transmission oil with new one. If this does not help, then disassemble the transmission and look at the condition of the bearings. Most likely, one of them has failed.

  • The walk-behind tractor does not work smoothly

If the engine is running stably, but the Cascade is slipping or breaking out, look at the condition of the tread on the wheels. Most likely it has worn off. It is not allowed to work on tires that are too worn. If the treads are fine, the reason may be different tire pressures. And because of this, the walk-behind tractor will constantly move in one direction and behave incorrectly.

  • Walk-behind tractor Cascade vibrates during operation

This nuance occurs when the attachment is connected incorrectly or is not fully secured. Before starting operation, you should always check the bolted connections and the reliability of their fixation.

  • The engine is difficult to start

There may be several problems here:

  1. Initially, carry out a visual inspection for damage;
  2. If everything is fine, check if there is gasoline in the gas tank (there should be more than half of it and of good quality);
  3. If the walk-behind tractor is on an inclined plane, then place it on a flat surface;
  4. Check the entire fuel system and whether there is fuel supply throughout the entire line;
  5. Inspect the ignition system to see if there is a spark;
  6. Check the carburetor and try adjusting the fuel mixture.

How to fill oil into a walk-behind tractor gearbox

Before pouring new oil into the gearbox, the old fluid must be drained. This is how the oil is changed in the gearbox of the Salut walk-behind tractor, which can be found on the Internet, as well as other models of walk-behind tractors.

The algorithm of actions in this case will be as follows:

  • The cultivator must be installed on some hill so that the oil can be easily drained from the gearbox.
  • The transmission has two drain plugs located at the bottom of the transmission and a plug that covers the oil filler hole. First, unscrew the filler plug, which is located on top of the walk-behind tractor body (at the gearbox).
  • We take a sufficiently capacious container (an old bottle of transmission oil will do), and then place it under the gearbox drain plug.
  • Carefully unscrew the drain plug, after which the oil will begin to flow into our container. After waiting for the oil to drain completely, tighten the drain plug. Then tighten it with a wrench of a suitable diameter until it stops.
  • Insert the funnel into the filler hole. Then we take the appropriate gear oil to fill the gearbox.
  • After filling the gearbox
    to the optimal level, unscrew the plug back. This plug is equipped with a special dipstick and its length is about ten cm. After we have filled the oil, we need to check its level. To do this, we tighten this probe plug, then unscrew it again and check it.
  • If there is oil at the tip of the dipstick, you no longer need to add oil.

As a rule, the oil change procedure must be carried out every hundred hours of operation of the walk-behind tractor. In some cases, this procedure must be performed every fifty hours.

In other words, the frequency of oil changes depends on the model of the walk-behind tractor, so all the necessary information is in the accompanying documentation for the walk-behind tractor.

Purpose of the oil

Reduced friction between moving parts

Since the load on ball and roller bearings, chains, etc. is applied at a single point or across a surface, a large force is applied at that point. Thanks to the oil, the area of application of force is increased and the force is distributed over this area, therefore it is prevented from concentrating on one point.

The oil cools the rubbing surfaces, removing the heat generated to them.

An oil film covers metal surfaces, preventing them from coming into contact with atmospheric oxygen.

Increased compression of the piston pair

Piston rings seal the gap in the piston pair to better utilize high combustion pressures. Oil improves tightness.

Soot and deposits accumulate in the oil and are carried away by it, preventing the formation of stubborn deposits on engine parts.

Energy transfer and absorption

The oil in the hydraulic torque coupling acts as a medium for smooth and even power transmission. In contrast, the oil in the shock absorber serves to absorb impact energy.

Advantages of the NMB-1N17 model

  • massive weight improves the passage of virgin soils;
  • the equipment has two power take-off shafts;
  • 4 working speeds (including reverse gear);
  • gear reducer;

Changing engine oil in a walk-behind tractor

The process of changing the oil in a walk-behind tractor is quite simple and takes little time. For this work, you need to prepare in advance a container for draining used lubricating fluid with a wide neck and a set of keys of the required size.

The entire replacement process consists of the following work:

  • The engine should idle for 4-5 minutes so that the oil quickly warms up and drains;
  • The walk-behind tractor tilts smoothly and the drain hole is opened with a key of a certain size;
  • The used oil completely drains from the hole into a previously prepared container;
  • The drain hole is closed;
  • The filler hole opens;
  • Carefully pour new oil into the filler hole;
  • The filler hole closes securely.

After replacing, you need to check its level with a dipstick. The volume of the old one drained and the new one filled in should be the same. It is very important to carry out the replacement while replacing the spark plugs.

WARNING! Changing and measuring the oil level in the gearbox should only be done at idle speed!

Fill the gearbox with oil through the oil fill hole. Check the oil level in the engine block gearbox as follows:

— to measure the oil level in the gearbox, the engine unit must be installed in a horizontal position;

— move the shift lever to the “R” position (R), then unscrew the plug in the oil fill hole in the gearbox and insert the dipstick into the oil fill hole until the horizontal part of the sensor handle is at the edge of the hole;

— remove the dipstick from the oil fill hole and assess the oil level. The oil level in the gearbox must be between two marks: if the oil level is below the lower mark, then oil should be added;

— low risk level is determined by the oil level

0.85 l (180 mm from the edge of the oil fill hole) and maximum risk

1.1 l (125 mm from the edge of the oil fill hole);

What types of lubricant should be used?

There are two types of lubricants for walk-behind tractors:

  • For 4 stroke engine
  • For 2-stroke engine

Lifan

These motors for walk-behind tractors appeared relatively recently, but are already very popular among gardeners and commercial organizations involved in agriculture. Let's consider the main characteristic features of these motors:

  • Products are available in various capacities;
  • There are both diesel and petrol units;
  • Motors have a long service life;
  • Moderate power and value of operating speeds;
  • Relatively low cost of devices;
  • The versatility of these devices;
  • Improved thrust of Lifan engines;
  • Compact dimensions (motors are easy to assemble).

Also, these installations are not highly voracious during frequent use (the engines do not consume a large amount of fuel or oil, compared to other similar models from other manufacturers).

Another manufacturer of power plants for Salyut brand walk-behind tractors. These units are in great demand. They are characterized by the following distinctive features:

  • Moderate power and operating speeds;
  • Relatively low cost of devices;
  • Long service life of motors;
  • Availability of all consumables and spare parts for free sale;
  • Unpretentiousness to Russian fuel;
  • Engines do not consume large amounts of oil;
  • Relatively small size of power plants;
  • The motors provide good cross-country ability.

Despite the large number of positive aspects, when operating these motors you can also encounter some disadvantages. The most pronounced of the minuses. high cost of spare parts (in order for the engine to serve for a long time, consumables need to be changed quite often). In addition, it is necessary to use high-quality oil, which in some cases has to be topped up, since if there is a shortage of it, the engine life is reduced.

Repairs and malfunctions

Despite the fact that walk-behind tractors of the Salyut are reliable, in some cases malfunctions occur in the gearboxes. Let's look at the main problems you may encounter and how to deal with them:

  • Weak return after oil change (no sealing, the oil seal needs to be reinstalled and sealant applied).
  • A metallic noise is heard (usually due to lack of lubrication, service should be carried out immediately).
  • The mechanism hums (there is an excess of mixture in the gearbox, the excess liquid needs to be drained).

Other malfunctions may also occur related to the breakdown of bearings or gears, as well as anthers; here it is necessary to immediately replace worn parts.

Important! If the device is non-separable, then if there is a serious malfunction, you will have to buy a new one, which is why, in order not to encounter unnecessary costs, the oil fluid on such elements is replaced more often.

Currently, special equipment includes many high-quality structural elements. However, even despite this, it can be subject to breakdowns. Often the failure of components is associated with a lack of lubrication, which has an extremely detrimental effect on the metal. That is why, in order to avoid unnecessary waste of funds, it is recommended to carry out maintenance in a timely manner. In this case, the working apparatus will perform all the duties assigned to it for a long time.

Types and purposes

The reducer of the Salute walk-behind tractor in its structural integrity contains such elements as a boot, an oil seal, gears, bearings and a number of other elements. However, in this case it is necessary to understand the purpose of this mechanism and its varieties:

  • non-separable converters (as a rule, these structural elements are mounted on relatively inexpensive equipment and, if they fail, must be immediately replaced);
  • dismountable mechanisms (most often mounted on expensive special equipment, which makes them easier to repair, and there is no need to replace them if they fail).

The drive mechanism itself serves to receive torque from the engine, and then transmit it to the axle, while evenly distributing the load on each wheel. Also, these products can be divided into angular, worm and step-down, depending on their purpose.

Important! Regardless of what type of mechanism is installed, it is mandatory that the gearbox seal be replaced during maintenance, and the oil in the gearbox of a Salyut 100 walk-behind tractor or on any other device is also changed.

As a rule, in the instructions for motorcycle equipment, the manufacturer indicates which brand of motor oil and in what volume is best to use. If there are no such recommendations, the product is selected according to the following characteristics:

  • SAE;
  • API;
  • ACEA.

The SAE parameter indicates the degree of viscosity of a substance and consists of an alphanumeric abbreviation, where the letter W indicates the possibility of use at low temperatures. The number in front of it indicates the viscosity for negative thermometer values, and the numbers after the dash for positive values. These indicators characterize how easily the liquid will be pumped through the system and how quickly it will reach the surfaces of the rubbing parts, protecting them from dry friction.

The API parameter divides the lubricant into categories C and S according to characteristics. Category C refers to products intended for four-stroke air-cooled diesel engines, category S for gasoline engines. Therefore, when choosing a fluid, you should definitely pay attention to this marking, since it has a different composition for diesel and carburetor engines.

ACEA categorizes an oil based on HT (High Temperature Viscosity) / HS (Shear Rate), which indicates the energy efficiency of the lubricant. The higher this value, the better it protects engine components from wear. A substance with a high mPas index is recommended to be poured into tractors, mini tractors, as well as heavy Neva walk-behind tractors designed for heavy loads.

Below are the types of machine lubrication that, according to their characteristics, are the most optimal for a cultivator or walk-behind tractor. Of course, they can be used in the absence of special recommendations from the equipment manufacturer and in accordance with the S and C markings. So, these are the oils:

  • 5w30, 5w40 all-season, which can be poured into vehicles at an ambient temperature of at least twenty-five ° C;
  • 10w30, 10w40 with anti-corrosion properties;
  • 15w40, 20w40 are intended for pouring into the engine at temperatures of forty-five ° C and above.
  • 0w30, 0w40 are intended for winter use;
  • MIL-L is designed for military equipment and can be used on walk-behind tractors with diesel engines (code 2104) and carburetor engines (code 46152).

Dual-labeled lubricant (SG / CD, SF / CC) can be poured into any engine, as it is universal and equally suitable for both diesel and gasoline engines (for example, Texas cultivator). Among the variety of lubricants, the most popular are products manufactured under the brands Mobil, Castrol, ZIC, Shell Helix. To improve action and improve quality, Oil Additiv, BIZOL, Cera Tec and others are added to it. They can be used in ambient temperatures ranging from twenty-five °C to twenty-five °C.

Classification of oil grades

To increase the service life of a gasoline or diesel engine, you need to make the right choice of engine oil. Failure to replace it in a timely manner reduces the service life of the engine. How to choose it, in what quantity, how to pour it into the walk-behind tractor - we’ll talk about this in more detail.

Each mini-tractor or walk-behind tractor includes instructions and a product data sheet. In the instructions, the manufacturer lists suitable types of fuel and lubricants that can extend the life of the equipment. Engine oil performs the following functions:

During air cooling, the lubricant settles on the walls of the hot cylinder. These deposits contaminate engine parts and complicate lubrication processes. Therefore, the lubricant contains antioxidant additives. They clean the cylinder walls from carbon deposits and extend the service life of the walk-behind tractor. Different climate zones require the use of different oily liquids. They differ in viscosity, composition and purpose.

By viscosity

Viscosity is determined according to SAE J300 standard. For mechanisms it depends on the following characteristics:

Motor oils are divided into winter and summer. Winter ones are designated with the letter W. Low-viscosity winter grades are often used with SAE designations 0W, 25W, as well as intermediate values 20W, 5W, 15W and 10W. Compositions for use in summer do not have letters in their names. They are distinguished by high viscosity and are designated SAE 20, 60, SAE 30 or 40. When using summer brands in winter, problems arise associated with starting the unit. Winter varieties are not capable of providing high-quality lubrication in the summer.

Scientists have developed all-season compositions that are used for pouring into walk-behind tractors in summer and winter. Their designations are 5W-40, 10W30.

By composition

In addition to seasonal characteristics, lubricants are divided into types based on composition:

  • mineral;
  • synthetic;
  • semi-synthetic.

An air-cooled engine heats up quickly during operation. Motor oil reduces its temperature. The wrong category causes a breakdown in the motor. It is not recommended to use synthetic oil in mixture with mineral oil.

Engines for the Salyut walk-behind tractor

Before considering in detail the procedure for changing the oil in the Salyut 5 walk-behind tractor, you need to familiarize yourself with the models of power plants that are installed on these devices. Let's take a closer look at all the currently used options:

  • Briggs Stratton (great power structure, but lacks power in some cases). In some cases, power units may act up due to lack of oil.
  • Honda (all owners of walk-behind tractors with Honda engines are satisfied with the power capabilities of the installation, with such an engine the device feels confident on any arable land).
  • The Salut hundred walk-behind tractor is often equipped with engines from the manufacturer Subaru (the selection of a Subaru engine, like a Honda engine, must be made taking into account a comparison of all characteristics).
  • Devices manufactured by Lifan are characterized by a lower cost (special equipment with a Lifan engine has a long service life, but here you need to pay attention to the spark plugs, which they periodically refill).
  • Asme equipment (another manufacturer that actively supplies high-quality EX twenty-seven motors for domestic walk-behind tractors of the Salyut brand, the engines have good characteristics, their feature is low price).

Among so many power plants, choosing the most suitable option for yourself is quite difficult. Therefore, all units must be considered in detail and in full.
