DESCRIPTION AND PURPOSE

Shantui SD22 is a middle-class crawler bulldozer designed for operation in various climatic zones (from harsh mining in Siberia to the Black Sea subtropics). The equipment belongs to traction class 15. The machine is produced in China at the Shantui Construction Machinery plant. Individual components of the bulldozer are made under license from well-known brands (Komatsu and Caterpillar). Thanks to this, the quality of the final product remains very high. Shantui SD22 is an upgraded variation of the TY220, which is an analogue of the Komatsu D85A-21.

The model is used to perform a wide range of operations in various conditions. The bulldozer is especially in demand among mining and construction companies. Shantui SD22 is used for leveling work sites, loosening rocks and hardened soil, moving lumpy and loose soils over short distances, cleaning areas from industrial and construction waste, digging and filling pits, quarries and pits, in road work and land reclamation.

The internal range of Shantui SD22 is represented by the following modifications:

  • SD22 – classic model with a straight blade and a basic soil ripper;
  • SD22C – version with a front blade for working in coal fields. In terms of design and technical parameters, the model does not differ from the basic version;
  • SD22D is a variation adapted to work in hot climates, including deserts. In terms of working equipment and capabilities, it is similar to SD22. The main feature is the modernized high-power air conditioner;
  • SD22E – version for soils with low bearing capacity and peat bogs. The machine has an increased contact area between the tracks and the surface. The bulldozer uses a standard blade;
  • SD22F – modification for forestry. A special protective cage with mesh increases operator protection. The equipment used is a winch and a frontal uprooting blade;
  • SD22R – model for waste disposal (domestic and industrial). Equipped with a large blade;
  • SD22S – version for use in wetlands. Ground pressure compared to the base SD22 bulldozer is reduced by 43% due to the wide track.

By separate agreement with the customer, a single-post or three-post ripper with a loosening depth of 666 to 695 mm is mounted on the bulldozer.

SD20

The SD20 is a commonly aspirated straight four diesel engine with bore and stroke of 83.0 and 92.0 mm. It had three main bearings. SD22

The SD22 is a typically aspirated inline four diesel engine. This is a flattened version of the smaller SD20 (83.0 x 100.0mm bore and bump). It produces at 4,000 rpm, as fitted to the 430 series 1983 Nissan Cedric. It was first used in the 330-series Nissan Cedric from June 1977. It was also produced in the MN 22 Chrysler Marine version under license during the 1980s.

The SD22 was used in the Datsun 720 pickup truck from 1980 to 1983, where it produced an SAE of 4,000 rpm. Shantui SD22 device has a classic layout with a front-mounted engine, behind which a prismatic, hexagon-shaped driver-operator cabin is placed. In the front part there is a blade (the type is selected by the customer), in the rear part there is a suspension system and hydraulic control of a one- or three-shank ripper. By default, the ripper is not installed.

The chassis is based on six-wheel tracks. Of the 6 rollers on each side of the machine, 2 are double-sided, the rest are single-sided. There are also 2 additional rollers in the upper part, protecting the caterpillar from sagging.

Shantui crawler bulldozers, as well as other special equipment from this manufacturer, are equipped with mechanisms and units from various global brands. For example, the power plant is taken from the American company Cummins, some hydraulic components are from the Japanese Komatsu, a number of units are produced under license from the American company Caterpillar, etc. The brand’s own development, used on other types of heavy special equipment produced by this concern, is the system centralized lubrication.

Combining components from different manufacturers into one whole is generally typical for Chinese special equipment. But we must admit that the result was an unpretentious, reliable and inexpensive car.

Transmission

The main part of the Shantui SD22 transmission is a planetary gear coupled with a multi-plate clutch. They are activated through a hydraulic system and have a forced lubrication system. The transmission also includes a 3-element, 1-phase, 1-speed hydraulic transformer.

The main drive is a bevel gear. It has a bubble lubrication system. The transmission is spiral-geared and has a 1-stage gearbox. In addition, the Shantui SD 22 bulldozer is equipped with a rotary coupling located in the oil. It is characterized by a closed type of operation, the presence of several disks and its own hydraulic system. The clutch brake element is also constantly in oil and is driven by a hydraulic system.

The final drive is a 2-stage spur gearbox, which is splash-lubricated.

Shantui SD22 is a bulldozer of the 15th traction class, equipped with a simple design Cummins engine (made in China). The machine can be used both on construction sites and in small quarries

The weight of the machine (without ripper) exceeds 23 tons, the power of the power unit is 162 kW (this value is achieved at 1,800 rpm). The model is capable of working on slopes up to 30 degrees. Some characteristics of the chassis: support rollers are installed in the amount of two on each side, support rollers - six (two of them are double-edged, the remaining four are single-edged). The number of shoes in the track (prefabricated, with one lug) is 38, the pitch of the track chain is 216 mm. The balance beam has a suspended structure.

The specific pressure of the Shantui SD22 bulldozer on the ground is limited to 0.077 MPa. The speed that the model develops when moving forward reaches 11.2 km/h, and when driving in reverse – 13.2 km/h. The minimum turning radius is 3,300 mm.

Available blade widths range from 1,055 to 1,374 mm. The width of the machine itself is 3,725 mm. The remaining dimensions are as follows: height - 3,395, length (for a machine without a ripper) - 5,750 mm.

The Cummins NT855-C280 diesel is a 4-stroke turbocharged model. Cooling type: water. The cylinders (six in total) are arranged linearly. Traditionally, direct fuel injection is also present. Minimum fuel consumption is 205 g/kWh.

The gearbox, as in other equipment of this class, is hydraulic, planetary type. Forced lubrication function is available (the system consists of a lubrication pump, control valve, oil cooler, oil strainer and oil level indicator; the pressure generated by the engine crankshaft gear drives the lubrication pump). Speed ​​reduction is one-stage. Onboard clutches are also typical for such bulldozers: they are wet type, multi-disc, spring-loaded.

The Shantui SD22 bulldozer operator has at his disposal a 6-sided cab with shock-absorbing suspension, characterized by good visibility. The chair is adjustable.

Compared to previously produced bulldozers, the hydraulic system has been improved. The maximum operating pressure is 14 MPa, flow rate is 262 l/min. The pump is gear-type.

The centralized lubrication technology used in the Shantui SD22 model is the company's own development. To simplify the maintenance process, the tracks are tensioned automatically. In addition, the GPS satellite navigation system provides useful information about the condition of the vehicle.
