Effect of modernization
What is important is that the engine compartment and interior electrical wiring of the UAZ 31514 remains virtually unchanged, and the alteration itself is characterized by the installation of new elements under the hood.
As a result:
- The engine begins to operate stably in all modes;
- Improves cold starting;
- Fuel consumption is normalized;
- The engine power will reach the passport data.
Differences between ignition systems
The main difference between the two systems is the moment of sparking:
- In classic ignition, a slider under the distributor cover is responsible for this when it comes into contact with the output contact on the spark plug wire. In this case, the supply of a high-voltage pulse occurs with an increase. It seems to be lubricated, reducing the spark power at the spark plug electrodes.
- In contactless ignition, the switch generates a charge and releases it almost instantly upon receiving a signal from the Hall sensor. As a result, the candle produces a more powerful spark. What to buy
In fact, you don’t need to buy much, and if you have a working distributor and reel, then the list of purchases will be minimal.
So, you need to buy:
- Hall Sensor;
- High-voltage wires (preferably silicone);
- Switch from VAZ 08.
Advice: If your UAZ is already many years old, then we recommend that in addition to the already indicated list, you buy a new distributor, a coil, and you will also need UAZ 31514 wiring with connectors for the switch.
For reconfiguration and operation, you will also need a new UAZ 31514 wiring diagram, which is shown in the photo below, and which you can print for convenience.
For a new ignition - a new circuit
You can also make your ignition system more powerful by upgrading it with two kits at once:
- Two switches;
- Two Hall sensors;
- Two ignition coils.
With this approach, each subsystem will be responsible for sparking 2 cylinders at once:
- First and third;
- Second and fourth.

Advice: if you use your UAZ 31514 in everyday life, not related to extreme sports, then it is enough to limit yourself to alterations with one set - it’s easier to maintain it. After all, domestic all-terrain vehicles use a proven UAZ wiring diagram.
Material
Polyvinyl chloride or polyvinyl chloride is often used as insulation for high-voltage wires. These are the cheapest materials. Higher quality ones have elastomer insulation with a temperature range from -30 to +1800 °C.

The weak point of some modern GDPs is the conductor. If you pull the wire, it may break or jump out of the clamp. It can also burn out during operation. On injection engines this is not always noticeable and its resistance must be checked periodically.

Both options are working, it all depends on the design of the distributor. In the future, you only have to adjust the ignition. The instructions are simple - you must remember that sparking begins when the edge of the plate is in the center of the Hall sensor.
The order is as follows:
- Rotate the crankshaft until the piston in the first cylinder reaches TDC;
- Rotate the distributor body until the contact plate is in the sensor slot;
- Carefully tighten all mounting screws to eliminate any play.
- Start the engine.
How to set the ignition
In order to correctly adjust the UAZ ignition the first time, you should adhere to the following recommendations:
- First you need to remove the cover that belongs to the distributor with the rotor. After this, the size of the gap between the contacts is checked and checked against established standards. Its maximum size can be from 0.35 to 0.45 mm, no more and no less. This plays an important role here and directly affects the operation of the engine. If the gap is too small, it will produce a small spark and because of this, the unit may operate intermittently. And if it is too high, the spark will not occur at all. If the gap deviates from the previously stated standard, it can be adjusted. Adjustment is best done using a set of feeler gauges. Having made a normal gap and checking it again, the rotor can be returned back and proceed to the next steps.
- Next, you need to carefully unscrew the spark plug of the first cylinder with a specially designed wrench. The resulting hole must be closed with your finger and held, while turning the crankshaft with the starting handle. When the compressed air begins to push the pin out of the hole, which means the start of the stroke, you need to continue turning the handle until the holes on the pulley and pin coincide. The rotor should be located opposite the internal contact of the cover, connected to the high-voltage wire from the spark plug of the first cylinder.
- Then you need to turn the octane corrector plate with the distributor. It is necessary to ensure that the mark coincides with the middle mark on the scale of the plate. Then, having completed this operation, you should slightly turn the distribution mechanism housing counterclockwise. Do this until the contacts of the distributor connect to each other.
- Next you need to connect the control light. The first contact must be connected to the low voltage terminal, and the second to the machine ground. It is possible to connect the lamp to the vehicle body.
- Next, you need to activate the ignition and start turning the distributor to the left until the lamp lights up. After this you need to stop. If tanning does not occur, then you should repeat everything all over again and wait for a positive result. You can't move on without it.
- Then, when everything works out, you need to tighten its mounting bolt on the distributor. When the cover is in place, you need to check how everything is adjusted. This must be done starting from the very first cylinder, to the right. At this point the work can be considered complete, and if everything is done correctly, the motor will function correctly and without interruption.
