Specifications
MAZ 6517 is a dump truck produced by the Minsk Automobile Plant, which has high characteristics. Increased cross-country ability is ensured thanks to the adaptive suspension and 6x6 wheelbase. The vehicle can be used both in city mode and in off-road conditions.
The truck is equipped with strong and economical engines produced by YaMZ. The design of the cabin is typical for all representatives of the MAZ family. The salon has two seats. Behind the seats there are sleeping shelves.
The impressive overall dimensions may vary depending on the configuration and purpose. The length can be from 8.13 m to 8.53 m, while the width will vary - 2.5-2.55 meters. Height may vary slightly. The standard figure is 3.78 meters, but can be increased by wheels to 3.9 meters.
The truck weighs just over 14 tons, while its load capacity is 19,000 kg. The machine is equipped with a tipper folding back bucket body with a tailgate. It fits from 10 to 12.5 cubic meters.
Several versions of motors are installed on the dump truck depending on the purpose. Thus, the truck is equipped with Yaroslavl engines YaMZ-238DE and YaMZ-6585. The engine is paired with a 9-speed manual transmission and a transfer case.
Finally, beautiful light sculptures have also begun to appear in Minsk - a fashionable trend in global urban design.
One of them is especially interesting for us. Giant dump trucks that glow in the night have never been installed anywhere, but they were installed in the Belarusian capital. Light sculptures are really beautiful. And not just on Christmas Eve, but always. There are already a lot of them in Minsk.
01.
Here is one of my favorite compositions. These two moose, each the size of a mammoth, have already become a landmark of the area where I live - Frunzensky.
02.
And this is a landmark of the area at the opposite end of the city - installed at the intersection of Tsentralnaya Street and Partizansky Avenue, between the exits from the Avtozavodskaya metro station.
03.
Even during the day, when there is no light, it is impressive.
04.
Impressive, of course, in size. The scale of the product is 2:1.
05.
I immediately remember the Emirates Auto National Museum (aka the Rainbow Sheikh Museum), which is located in the desert between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Previously, enlarged copies of real cars could only be seen there, and now also in Minsk.
06.
In general, the idea itself is cool, but... But why was this particular prototype chosen? The choice is more than strange.
Apparently, the creators of the sculpture “had in mind” an all-wheel drive off-road dump truck of the MAZ-6517
.
For understanding - a remark
about him.
M-Park's remark
MAZ-6517
is not the most widespread, not the most advanced, far from a new model of the Minsk Automobile Plant... The historical significance of this truck lies only in the fact that it is the first serial off-road three-axle MAZ dump truck with (note) single-pitch tires.
07.
This model appeared in the program in 2009 and is still produced to this day, but it is very difficult to find in cities.
08.
Off-road, somewhere on remote industrial construction sites or in quarries - yes.
09.
Remember our material “
Cement extreme in Krichev
”? So, in the Kamenka chalk quarry, the partners of MZKT dump trucks and large walking excavators are precisely these MAZs.
10.
In Russia, the largest habitat of
the MAZ-6517
is Surgut.
This photo shows the latest version - MAZ-6517Х9-410-051,
produced in 2016.
And in the background are HUNT dump trucks
, which we talked about in detail.
11.
the MAZ-6517
family are also used by construction units of the Belarusian Ministry of Defense.
In general, MAZ-6517
— the workhorse of remote construction sites.
12.
What motivated the creators in choosing a prototype is still a mystery. But it glows well and it’s still interesting to take a closer look at the giant. Let's study how it works.
13.
The entire structure is assembled from aluminum bars. We sing glory to the spatial imagination of the welder!
14.
This is the “mainframe” of the glowing dump truck - the backlight control unit.
15.
The creators definitely tried. Even the fuel tank neck and wheel fenders have been reproduced.
16.
The tread, like almost all lines, is imitated by carefully laid light cords. We tried and tried, but... I just want to ask: “Did you even look at the real tread pattern?” Apparently not.
17.
From this moment on, a certain feeling of mild annoyance arises due to the fact that the authors of the sculpture are well versed in their business of creating volumetric light compositions, but know nothing at all about trucks... Obviously, this means a gable tire, but why is it here?
18.
MAZ actually has an all-wheel drive dump truck in its range with a dual-pitch rear tire.
MAZ-6517X5-480-050
(pictured) belongs to the
MAZ-6517
. Maybe he meant it?
19.
Let's pay attention to the shape of the front wing. It is completely different for a “double slope” and a “single slope”. And on the sculpture, the front wing is carefully reproduced from the single-slope version, and the wheels are completely different from it. And the front bumper is weird.
How did it happen?
20.
After all, even the “fungus” of the air intake was reproduced.
21.
The windshield divided into two halves was examined and reproduced. True, we didn’t guess the exact shape, but we noticed this nuance.
And the wheels they put on were completely wrong... Apparently the layout was made based on a picture on the Internet, which they looked at and looked at, but didn’t see the most important thing...
22.
It was also strange with the emblem. Firstly, it does not glow, and, secondly, it is not entirely relevant. No, this is still a MAZ trademark, which is used on forms, “souvenirs”, on the plant’s website, but...
23.
But this version of the logo (with a frame) has not been installed on real cars for a long time.
24.
For more than five years now, all MAZ trucks have been using this logo - without a frame and chrome-plated.
25.
Otherwise - excellent. There's even a rear bumper. It, unlike the front one, is reproduced carefully, as is the body.
26.
Due to the white diode cords and yellow garlands, it was possible to achieve a three-dimensional perception of the body.
27.
The body looks especially good from this angle.
They didn't finish it just a little bit. As far as we know, MAZ itself had nothing to do with the choice of the copy object and the design of the sculpture. This was a city initiative. We don’t know the contractor who did the project, but they are excellent professionals. The rest of their works - luminous moose, bison, stick with puck, book, carriage (Minsk residents know) - are magnificent. The MAZ dump truck is also technologically excellent, but... But why didn’t they consult with a person who at least saw MAZ dump trucks not only in pictures?
Personally, completely wrong wheels hit my eyes hard. The same moose are 10 times more complex in shape than a MAZ; manufacturers could accurately reproduce the appearance of a specific car 100% if someone pointed out the mistake to them in time. It could have been an exact copy, but what came out was a “hodgepodge”, a kind of hybrid that does not exist in reality. And the prototype should have been either something from the new family, or some historical model. This one is neither historical nor modern...
However, if we put aside my narrowly professional literalism, the very fact of the appearance of this element of urban design is encouraging, and we warmly support the very trend of creating and installing such sculptures.
Service
YaMZ engines are serviced every 15,000 km. When carrying out scheduled maintenance, the engine oil (recommended M10G2K or M10D), as well as coarse and fine filters, are changed. Scheduled maintenance should also include checking the transmission and replacing the filter elements of the fuel unit. It is recommended to diagnose the fuel injection pump every maintenance.
The service also includes an inspection of the brake and transmission systems. Particular attention should be paid to hydraulics. When carrying out maintenance, the condition of the tubes, the compressor, and the presence of the proper fluid level in the system are diagnosed.
