KamAZ with hood:
Engine and transmission of KamAZ-Arctic
The three-axle KamAZ-6345 is equipped with the traditional V-shaped “eight” KamAZ-740.37–400. This is an engine with a power of 400 horsepower (294 kW), achieved at 1900 rpm; maximum torque of 1765 N.m, achieved at 1300 rpm; with custom aluminum heads, turbocharging, ONV, electronic control and Common Rail type fuel supply systems. The displacement of this eight-cylinder engine is 11.76 liters. The cylinder diameter is 120 mm, the piston stroke is 130 mm. The compression ratio is 18 to 1. Overall dimensions are 1212 × 908 × 1050 mm. The engine weight is 885 kg.
The four-axle KamAZ-6355 is equipped with a promising six-cylinder in-line power plant KamAZ R6 910.12, which develops power of 450 horsepower (331 kW) at 1900 rpm. The maximum engine torque is 2059 Nm and is achieved at a speed of 1300 rpm.
This new KamAZ engine, launched in 2022, was developed and made on the basis of the 12-liter Liebherr D946 diesel engine, which was initially used only in construction equipment, not in cars.
The KamAZ R6 910.12 engine is similar to many other European in-line diesel engines for heavy trucks: it has a cast iron block, wet liners; the camshaft is located in the block; the valves are driven by rods; gears of the gas distribution mechanism and pumps - from the flywheel side. The exact displacement of this engine is 11.946 liters, cylinder diameter 130 mm / piston stroke 160 mm. That is, the Kama Automobile Plant here moved away from its usual piston diameter of 120 mm.
The KamAZ R6 910.12 diesel engine is equipped with a single-stage turbocharging, ONV, electronic control of the Common Rail fuel system, a battery-type fuel supply system, and on-board diagnostics. The compression ratio is 17.5 to 1. Engine overall dimensions: 1373 × 927 × 1156 mm (length / width / height). The net weight of the KamAZ P6 910.12 diesel engine is 1140 kg.
The engine compartments of these vehicles are equipped with the option of electric engine heating, as well as liquid heaters.
Also, the Arctic adaptation of diesel engines required the use of frost-resistant rubber goods that can withstand down to –80 °C, concentrated antifreeze, synthetic oils and lubricants; as well as installation of fuel filters with additional electric heating. The engine crankcase is equipped with powerful protection from the bottom in the form of a sump, reinforced with strong protective arches.

KamAZ-65225
KamAZ 65225 is a heavy-duty tractor, the technical characteristics of which are famous for their reliability, and the 6x6 wheelbase makes the all-terrain vehicle passable and maneuverable. The tractor coupling device has three levels of freedom, the unit is located at a height of 1.8-1.9 meters. The load applied to the coupling device is 22,000 kilograms, the weight of the road train is 38 tons.
Thanks to its characteristics, the machine is used in conditions where there are no roads. The machine is in demand for operation as a timber carrier, pipe carrier, construction tug. The advantage is that KamAZ operates in severe frost and is equipped with ABS and heating in the cab. Residential module (KAMAZ-6345) or utility unit and CMU (KAMAZ-6355) behind the cabin
Another important feature of this machine is the presence of a developed residential module - a full-fledged living space in which you can live autonomously in comfort, despite the harshest climatic conditions, for at least three days.
The equipment of the residential module includes sleeping places, washbasin, shower and toilet, boiler heater, water supply, microwave oven, hob, refrigerator, TV, satellite phone, electricity generator, a large number of built-in drawers and shelves. As an additional option, the KamAZ-6345 residential module provides for the installation of air conditioners. That is, workers on board can completely isolate themselves from mosquitoes, midges and midges.
The living module is located between the cab and the truck body. It does not connect directly to the driver's cabin, but has an intercom station with it. If necessary, the residential module can be completely removed from the vehicle using a crane.
The vehicle itself runs on diesel fuel, and the electric generator of the residential module runs on gasoline. Therefore, you need to carry both types of fuel with you. However, in the future it is possible to use a diesel electric generator instead of a gasoline one.
In the second, four-axle 8x8 version of the KamAZ-Arctic all-terrain vehicle, there is no autonomous living module. Its place behind the cabin was taken by a spare wheel, an Inman IM77 crane-manipulator unit produced by the Ishimbay Crane Plant and a utility unit for placing various tools and accessories.
The utility unit (like the KamAZ-6345 residential module) is equipped with a three-section folding ladder and a retractable mechanism to provide access to all its contents. The Inman IM77 crane-manipulator unit is mounted in front of the body compartment, with its help you can load the car or change a wheel. The maximum load capacity of this installation is 3000 kg. At maximum boom reach (6.8 m), the load capacity is 1100 kg. The car body is standard, with folding sides.
KamAZ-63501
The vehicle “63501” is an all-wheel drive all-terrain vehicle with an 8x8 wheelbase. An additional axle increases the vehicle's load-carrying capacity, but the vehicle's maneuverability decreases. The machine is rarely used to solve routine tasks; its main application is in the military and special fields. Technical advantages were directly reflected in the purchase price of the manipulator based on the KamAZ all-terrain vehicle. This type of technology is not cheap. For most companies from Moscow and the region, it is easier and more profitable to use hired transport services. At the same time, the shift rental of a manipulator with a driver is especially attractive. In this case you get:

KamAZ – 4326 “Master”:
For example, such a product is the sports modification “4326-9” (“Master”), intended for participation in the Dakar race. The car is equipped with a power plant with a volume of 18.4 liters, a power of 625 horses, as well as a 700 horse engine with cooling and the ability to run on diesel fuel with the addition of methane. The main advantage of the car is overcoming off-road conditions at speeds of over 100 kilometers per hour.
Another representative of special equipment is the Arktika vehicle, which operates in northern conditions. The purpose of creating the machine is the development and exploration of the Arctic zone. This is a vehicle with all-wheel drive and a 6x6 wheel arrangement. The car is equipped with a V8 power plant with a turbine and a manual gearbox. The design feature is an articulated frame, which breaks when overcoming heavy areas, wetlands, or snow cover with a loose surface. The car is equipped with a passenger compartment, which is used for living in harsh climatic conditions; the cabin contains: air conditioning, toilet, shower, etc.
Frame, suspension, chassis KamAZ-6345 / 6355
The key feature of the KamAZ-Arctic all-terrain vehicle was the articulated frame, which is not typical for trucks from the Kama Automobile Plant: like that of the Kirovets tractor. Such a truck turns not due to the rotation of the wheels, but with the help of a “breaking” frame. This decision was caused by the dimensions of the wheels: on this all-terrain vehicle they are made very wide, simply not providing enough resource for a full turn.
The frame articulation unit is equipped with two sheet box-shaped structures, which are connected by two ball-type hinges. Rotation around the axis is carried out using hydraulic cylinders. The maximum folding angle is 45 degrees.
The articulated frame is movable in the horizontal plane and provides a minimum turning radius. The articulation unit is unified for different wheel formulas. Since the specific operation of the car does not provide for difficult, rough terrain, the designers considered that if there was a lack of traction properties, an inter-wheel lock would be sufficient. In general, an articulation unit with one degree of freedom is more reliable. In this form (but only with an extended front section), the design was transferred to the 8x8 version.
With the help of special wide tires, which constitute an important characteristic feature of the KamAZ-Arctic, excellent cross-country ability of the vehicle is achieved in extreme climatic conditions and on unstable soils. In wetlands, in the tundra, on firn snows. Tires for this all-terrain vehicle are available in two sizes: in the “Overall” version they have a width of 700 mm, and in the “Oversized” type they have a width of over 1000 mm. To install wide oversized tires on wheels, special fender flares are used.
Front suspension
The first version of standard tires Nortec TA-01 710/70 R38 (manufactured by the Altai Tire Plant) allows the truck to fit within the dimensional parameters provided for by the Road Traffic Regulations and move on public roads. The second is designed for traveling on soils with low bearing capacity.
The outer diameter of the first tire version is 1960 mm, and their exact width is 716 mm. The maximum load on the tire reaches 5.3 tons, and the internal air pressure in it is no more than 160 kPa (1.63 kgf/cm2). With such indicators, it is possible to provide a maximum speed of 60 km/h and a ground pressure of 140 kPa (1.43 kgf/cm2). The mass of the wheel assembly is 526 kilograms.
The 2nd version of the wheel propeller (oversized type) is distinguished by a slightly smaller outer diameter of the wide-profile tire - 1650 mm, but the width is increased to 1050 mm. Thanks to the specific pressure reduced to 113 kPa (1.15 kgf/cm2), better maneuverability on a deformable supporting surface is achieved, however, there are dimensional restrictions for driving on general roads. One oversized tire weighs 388 kilograms.
The exhibition four-axle KamAZ-Arktika in the “oversize” version was equipped with Chinese Henan tubeless tires with dimensions 66x43.00-25.
With a length of 12 m, the frame folding angle of 45° provides a turning diameter of 32 meters.
Rear suspension
The following technical solutions were chosen in the suspension design. The front suspension of this vehicle is made of springs - it is based on the rear suspension of the KamAZ-5460 and the rear axle from the KamAZ-6520 truck. The shock absorbers and stabilizer are taken from the KamAZ-65225 suspension.
The rear suspension is of the balancing type. The bridges are three-stage, with a gear ratio of 15. These are special low-speed bridges developed specifically for KamAZ-Arctic.
A winch with a traction force of 2.5 tons is mounted at the rear, which will be quite enough to perform all kinds of rescue tasks.
