Test Drive Peugeot Expert 2022

Model history

Peugeot Expert Mk1 (more commonly known as Peugeot Expert 1) was produced from 1995 to 2007. in France at the PSA SEVEL Nord plant in Valenciennes in a consortium with the FIAT Group. In 2004, the model was restyled.

Peugeot Expert 1 is a “twin brother” identical to models of related brands - Citroen Jumpy 1 and FIAT Scudo 1, which were produced here on the same assembly line.

Initially, the joint creation of Expert/Jumpy/Scudo by PSA Peugeot Citroen and FIAT Group was part of the Eurovans project, along with the development of the 806/Evasion/Ulysse/Zeta minivans. However, due to the difference in the specific design of minivans and mid-size commercial vans (albeit with passenger versions), Expert/Jumpy/Scudo cargo vans were separated into a separate project.

Nevertheless, minivans and cargo representatives of both projects have a large number of identical components and parts, identical interior trim elements and systems, despite different areas of application.

Changes during restyling

  • a new, more powerful and impact-resistant bumper with an air intake optimized for better cooling of the radiator and intercooler and round, more powerful fog lights;
  • a new radiator grille with an enlarged “Lion” logo of the Peugeot brand;
  • hood cover “with a step” for installing larger power units;
  • new design headlights with increased aperture;
  • wide impact protection lining on the sides of the body and on the rear hinged doors;
  • changes in cabin, interior and decor materials;
  • equipping with diesel engines of new families and gasoline engines paired with automatic transmission.

Briefly about the model

Among the many models of the Peugeot Expert 2022, the 2018 differs in many ways. This is explained by the fact that when creating the device, the manufacturer was guided by the latest news in mechanical engineering, including device innovations. Peugeot Expert, although sales began recently, has already earned many positive reviews from its owners.

Since the start of sales in our country began in 2017

year, we can judge the car based on the reviews of those who have already purchased it. The advertising campaign assures us that the model is a professional in the field of comfortable transportation.

Design

Exterior

The Peugeot Expert 1 body could be of five types:

  • all-metal van (Fourgon Tole);
  • glass van (Fourgon Glass);
  • cargo-passenger (Combi);
  • passenger (Minibus);
  • chassis for installing a third-party body (Chassis). ... with two roof heights:
  • 1919 mm “standard”;
  • 1954 mm “high”. ... with two wheelbase options:
  • 2824 mm (vehicle length 4440 mm) “standard”;
  • 3224 mm (car length 4840 mm) “long”.

Depending on the variant, Peugeot Expert 1 had a carrying capacity from 800 to 1100 kg, and for passenger and cargo-passenger models - from 2 to 9 seats in the cabin (including the driver).

The standard cab design is 3-seater (driver's seat + 2-seater passenger). Optional - a 2-seater cabin, in which the same passenger cabin was installed next to the driver's.

Interior

For the first time, such comfortable conditions for the driver were created on board a mid-size commercial vehicle:

  • the gearshift lever in the form of a convenient “joystick” was located on the tide of the dashboard, right next to the palm of the driver’s right hand, and did not stick out from the floor;
  • the parking brake has moved to the left side of the driver's seat;
  • rack and pinion steering, equipped with a hydraulic booster, was distinguished by high precision and low effort on the soft thick “donut” of the steering wheel;
  • clear dashboard with beautiful and easy-to-read graphics;
  • comfortable ergonomic chair with a comfortable profile, developed lumbar support and several adjustments.

The secret of such “luxury” is simple - the cabin of the commercial Peugeot Expert 1 was the same as that of the comfortable family minivan Peugeot 806. The differences were only in specific details.

Of course, the passenger versions of the Peugeot Expert could not have such a high level of comfort as the Peugeot 806 platform minivan. Here everything was slightly more ascetic, but more functional and designed for heavy use with a minimum of proper care. Therefore, passenger Experts of the 1st generation are most widespread in taxis, municipal services and as rotational or school buses.

Description of appearance

Looking at the photo of the Peugeot Expert, we can understand that this is a modern model. It combines the latest innovations in car design. The review makes it clear that thanks to the new revolutionary shape of the car, it looks like a comfortable and roomy car.

Large from the outside, the new body is good for those who have a family, since it will perfectly fit everything needed for a trip to the countryside. The body cover is easy to use - easy to open and close. Peugeot Expert 2022 2018 looks dynamic, elegant, thanks to this it can fit into urban and rural environments. The restyling carried out by the manufacturer made the model’s appearance harmonious and complete.

Diesel Peugeot Expert 1 were produced 4 times more than gasoline ones. This is largely due to the high reliability and excellent reputation of PSA Peugeot Citroen diesel engines. However, gasoline engines also had something to offer customers.

The “restyled” Peugeot Expert 1 has become almost the only one in the class that has an option with a petrol 2.0 or paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. The automatic version is rare. Often these were passenger versions designed to transport disabled people. However, “regular” Expert vans and minibuses could be ordered with 2.0 16v 137 hp. and 4 automatic transmission.

Suspension and ride quality

When we say Peugeot, we mean: design, handling and safety. And if we say handling, we mean suspension.

Suspension Peugeot Expert 1st generation: front - fully independent, MacPherson strut, with anti-roll bar, rear - semi-independent "H-shaped" torsion beam with Panhard rod. This design provides exemplary road stability even for a fully loaded vehicle and at the same time has a long service life and reliability.

It should be noted that no one skimped on safety in the Peugeot Expert 1. The range of brake electronics systems here was as impressive as that of the 806, the driver's airbag went from being an option to standard equipment in 1998, and seat belts with tensioners were included in the basic equipment from the very beginning.

We also took care of the comfort of the cargo. The relatively soft suspension contributed to the trouble-free transportation of the most delicate and delicate objects, which could be firmly secured with slings to specially provided anchor rings on the floor, hinges and fairleads on the internal ribs of the body frame. The standard floor was painted metal, but optionally it could be covered with a rubber-plastic carpet, laminated waterproof plywood, and the sides of the cargo compartment could be covered with hardboard or plastic panels.

The rear doors of the cargo compartment are hinged, symmetrical, with the ability to open 180 degrees, which allows you to conveniently drive up to any threshold or ramp.

Like all Peugeots of that time, the Expert 1 received a fully galvanized body on both sides. Decades and hundreds of thousands of kilometers of operation have proven the high anti-corrosion resistance of cars of this model.

Vehicle specifications

  • Peugeot Expert 1997. The progenitor model of subsequent ones was produced since 1995. A car running on diesel, the engine capacity of which is about 2 liters. Power reaches 109 horsepower, and fuel consumption per 100 km in city rhythm is 12 liters. The model has won customer recognition due to its high practicality and reliability. The kit comes with some essential car accessories such as a towbar;
  • Peugeot Expert 2007. It is an intermediate link in the line. The owners noted that the trunk volume is quite large and amounts to 5 cubic meters. A test drive showed that fuel consumption in a mixed rhythm is about 8 liters, which is not much. High ground clearance or ground clearance allows the car to successfully move along Russian, sometimes bumpy, roads. The model is available with both automatic and manual transmission;
  • Peugeot Expert
    2018. Technical characteristics of the Peugeot Expert ensure operation on both diesel and gasoline. The large tank volume guarantees long trips without the need for refueling.
    Video test
    drives demonstrate that this model can cope with any weather conditions.

In the country the price of the new Peugeot Expert

varies from RUB 1,749,000 to RUB 2,024,000.

Comparison with competitors

  • more reasonable cost;
  • ease of maintenance and provision;
  • the ability to independently make tuning.
  • the interior design is less well done;
  • worse technical characteristics;
  • higher fuel consumption;
  • no choice between diesel and gasoline engines;
  • creating additional noise while moving;
  • smaller trunk volume;
  • insufficient space for rear seat passengers.

Typical problems and malfunctions

The spare wheel on the Peugeot Expert 1 is located under the rear bumper, and it is raised, lowered and removed using a built-in winch. To prevent this winch from causing problems at the most unnecessary moment, it must be “unwound” at least once every 2 years, cleaned and lubricated all its parts with frost-resistant grease such as CIATIM 201 or similar;

The rear suspension of the Peugeot Expert 1 is equipped with a Panhard rod, which has one rubber-metal hinge (silent block) at the ends. The condition of the “rubber bands” of these joints must be periodically monitored (preferably at every service, once every 10-20,000 km). If this is not done and the hinges “break,” this will negatively affect handling and driving comfort - the car will require constant steering and trajectory control, careful braking and increased attention, especially in winter on slippery surfaces. The procedure for replacing the Panhard rod joints of the 1st generation Peugeot Expert has a “penny” cost, as do the “rubber bands” themselves. Therefore, there is no need to “save on matches.”

After driving through tall grass or stubble, the fuel level sensor in the tank may begin to malfunction. The problem is that its connector is located quite low and an unsuccessful blow from the elastic stem can break the wire or distort the “plug,” and moisture that gets into the gap will oxidize the contacts. Eliminated by cleaning, connecting the broken wire, sealing the sensor connector and placing its wires in a durable corrugated tube. The problem will disappear and will not return.

General recommendation for a spare wheel winch: to prevent the cable from getting tangled and jammed inside the housing, it can only be reeled under load, providing tension by hand, or by attaching the wheel. This is true for all cars with such winches.

Once a year, be sure to wash the radiator and intercooler honeycombs externally with a stream of high-pressure water and detergent. If this is not done in time, during the summer heat the engine may suffer “thermal shock” (especially if the Expert carries large amounts of cargo). The proposed measure will protect the engine from thermal troubles.

Internal organization

After sitting in the car, you can understand whether the model suits you or not. If you are in doubt about whether to buy a Peugeot Expert

, sit in the driver's seat - the questions will disappear!

A comfortable interior that provides convenience when traveling for both the driver and passengers. This is facilitated by soft chairs, sitting in which you will forget about what time you are driving. The passage between the first and second rows of seats is wide enough so that even tall people have somewhere to put their feet. Also, if it is necessary to transport large loads, the seats fold down and provide more free space.

Reviews of the Peugeot Expert say that the dashboard is convenient, it is easy to place car accessories on it, such as a DVR, portable music system, etc. Photos from inside the cabin tell us that the inside of the car is just as stylish as the outside, taking into account the latest trends. Moreover, the model has built-in cruise control.
