03/19/2021 00:00 Today, dear friends, we will talk about an extremely unusual car, which was recently handed over to the customer. This is a refrigerator van with a refrigeration unit based on the Sobol with all-wheel drive and a two-row cab. Have you ever seen such a car on the road? Unlikely.

Overall, this truck is fairly easy to assemble. But they don’t often order something like this, because the Sobol with a refrigerator is only suitable for specific tasks. The biggest problem is its carrying capacity. Without the weight of the van and HOU, it is a little more than a ton. In addition, due to the double-row cabin, the length of the cargo platform is 2-2.5 meters.

Therefore, transporting food in such a truck is unlikely to be cost-effective. Where then can it be used profitably? If you think about it, it is ideal for delivering medicines to remote villages, villages and some hard-to-reach objects. And what? Impressive tonnage and body volume are not needed, good cross-country ability and maneuverability are available.

However, for such a purpose this car can be successfully used in the city. It is compact, which will allow the driver to easily turn around in yards and park. Under the hood of GAZ 231073 there is a gasoline engine UMZ-A275. With a volume of 2.7 liters, this unit produces 106.8 horsepower. The gearbox, of course, is manual with 5 speeds.

If desired, the Ulyanovsk engine can be easily converted to gas fuel, which will make it even more economical. All-wheel drive, single-pitch tires and a locked rear differential give the Sobol impressive off-road capabilities.

The short wheelbase also helps. Of course, this is far from a tractor or a tank, but the car can definitely cope with a muddy rural rut.

The craftsmen of our workshop installed an insulated van made of frameless sandwich panels on the Sobol frame. It has a welded base made of steel channel and profile pipe. Overall dimensions of the superstructure: 2400x2100x2000 mm (L/W/H). The outer skin of the “booth” is made of galvanized steel with a polymer coating.

Galvanization was also used to cover the walls inside the body. It is good because it is absolutely safe for food cargo, because it does not enter into chemical reactions with them. The flooring is made of transport plywood 18 mm thick.

All fittings, that is, locks, hinges, clamps and other elements are also made of galvanized steel, so they will definitely last a long time. A layer of insulation is laid between the walls of the van. In this case, it is polyurethane foam 50 mm thick. The volume of the body is 8 cubic meters.

To cool the cargo, an H-Thermo HT-210 installation from South Korea is provided. It can freeze cargo down to -20 degrees Celsius. Another "Farmer" was born. Let's explore the new GAZ-Sobol 4WD

The “younger” GAZ family “GAZelle/Sobol-Business” has been replenished with a new modification. Finally, a cargo-passenger version of the Sobol-Business with a one-and-a-half cabin has appeared. Among other things, Sobol/GAZelle-Business now has a completely new dashboard. We tell you the details.

GAZ-231073 is the latest addition to the “sable” family. The conventional name “Farmer” has already been assigned to the car, although GAZ itself did not assign such a name.

Strange, but there really was no onboard version with a 6-seater cabin in the Sobol-Business family. There was a regular flatbed Sobol with all-wheel drive and a single cab, there were all-metal vans in cargo-passenger and passenger versions, but there was no flatbed truck with a double-row cab. Cargo-passenger and passenger CMFs are very popular among us, especially among the special services.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations uses such vehicles in both cargo and passenger versions as headquarters vehicles. Some specimens are stylishly decorated with “kenguryatniks”.

A very large consumer of such cars is the Belarusian police. They are used by the operational duty service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, they are also available in the patrol service, even in the traffic police (passenger versions).

But for a long time the niche of on-board vehicles with a two-row cabin was empty. A similar all-wheel drive GAZelle with a double rear tire existed, but there was no Sobol with a rear single tire.

This Sobol appeared as a prototype last year, and sales of production vehicles have now started. The total weight of such a truck is 3120 kg, payload is 925 kg.

The wheelbase size here is the same as that of standard GAZelles - 2900 mm. The two-row 6-seater cabin is the same as that of the GAZelle-Business. The side platform is 30 cm shorter. But the drive axles with suspension on leaf springs are from Sobol.

For now, under the hood is a 106-horsepower UMZ-4216 gasoline engine. In the future there will be options with a Cummins diesel engine.

A very important innovation, which for some reason GAZ does not particularly promote, is a completely new dashboard with a completely new design. The ventilation deflectors have become more efficient, there are more niches for small things, and in general the new panel looks beautiful and quite modern.

Here is the instrument panel from GAZelle-Next, and the on-board computer screen has appeared. In general, the entire new interior is made in the GAZelle-Next style. It is a completely logical step that consumers expected from GAZ, and GAZ took this step.

Opposite the “navigator’s” place there are also changes in the interior. Previously, there was an upper glove box with an opening lid. Now the storage niche remains only at the bottom, but a convenient table with a cup holder has appeared. It certainly looks better aesthetically, but an additional glove box in a commercial vehicle is still more useful than a cup holder.

How to distinguish new cars externally? If you see Sobol-Business with mirrors from GAZelle-Next, then most likely you are looking at a copy of the new series. Although there are still cars with a new interior, but old mirrors, or vice versa. Very soon everything will “settle down”, but for now a fairly reliable external sign is the 4WD nameplate on the door.

GAZ-231073 is a definitely positive copy and will find its buyers. “Farmer” was sorely missed in the lineup. Those who needed an all-wheel drive SUV with an onboard platform and a two-row cabin could choose only from two options - UAZ-Farmer and GAZelle-Farmer 4x4. But the UAZ is a car of a completely different historical era and is ascetic to the point of impossibility (but cheap), and the GAZelle did not have an option with a “single slope”. “Sobol-Farmer” absorbed the best properties of both, and with the new interior it came closer to “GAZelle-Next” in comfort, maintaining the price niche of “Business”.
