How to choose a chain

  1. Tooth pitch. This parameter is measured in inches. The most common sizes are 0.325, 0.375 and 0.404. Each of them is selected depending on the assigned tasks. Therefore, it is necessary to purchase a chain whose power would correspond to a chainsaw.
  2. The thickness of the tail and drive link, which means the product can be selected for different tires. The 1.1 mm thick tail is found only on small chains for household saws. The most popular size is 1.3 mm. This model can be present even on semi-professional devices.
  3. Depth of the cut and height of the profile. The performance of the device depends on this parameter. It is always possible to increase the value if you cut off the stops near each cutter. There are two options to choose from: 0.025” (0.635 mm) and 0.03” (0.762 mm). The presence of a high-profile chain makes the chainsaw aggressive and shaving. If oil is supplied to the chain in excessive quantities, not only while the saw is running, but also at idle, manual adjustment should be made (if the pump design allows this possibility). This is done using a screw, which is located on the body near the guide bar, usually on the bottom or side. Tightening the screw reduces the oil supply, loosening it does the opposite. If the adjustment does not help, it is necessary to check the serviceability of the pump, and also inspect the tire - perhaps a gap has formed at the point where it connects to the body, through which oil flows past the chain.

Lack of oil can be caused by several reasons, each of which has its own solution:

  • Oil pump malfunction. As a rule, it consists of an unsuitable gasket. In order to replace it, it is necessary to carefully disassemble the pump so as not to damage its moving parts. Next, a new gasket is installed, after which the pump is assembled and installed in place.
  • Broken oil supply hose. If the pump gasket is in good condition, or if replacing it did not lead to results, you should check the tightness of the hose. If it is faulty, it needs to be replaced. Otherwise, it would be a good idea to clean it and seal it with sealant.

If the reason does not lie in a breakdown of the pump, it is necessary to inspect all conductive holes and channels for blockages, and, if necessary, clean them of foreign objects. This can be done with a jet of compressed air.

The engine gets very hot

The cause of engine overheating may be jamming of the gearbox gear, if it is heavily contaminated with small sawdust, or if foreign objects have come into contact with it, for example, fragments of a spring or plastic parts. Try turning the gearbox shaft by hand with the brake off. If rotation is difficult, you will need to disassemble the gearbox and fix the problem.

If your unit has a permanent tire, try cleaning the entire space near the sprocket using a thin wire and some penetrating liquid, such as kerosene or WD-40. After cleaning and lubricating this part, try turning it. If the sprocket turns with difficulty or does not turn at all, the bearing is damaged. In this case, the tire must be replaced.

The electric saw does not cut straight

If the electric saw is pulled to the side, in most cases this is due to one-sided tire wear. The chain, passing along such a bar, warps, and the headset produces an uneven cut.
