Review of characteristics and comparison of the best disc harrows at MTZ - where to buy and at what price

Trailed disc harrows (discators) are used for pre-sowing, main, and minimum tillage. When using this equipment, there is no need for preliminary plowing of the land, which can significantly reduce labor costs. A harrow is a fairly multifunctional device, used not only for pre-sowing preparation of fields, but also for leveling and loosening the soil, rejuvenating turfed meadows, and also peeling stubble. The use of diskers in small areas with problematic terrain is very effective, since this equipment has high maneuverability.

Equipment Features

Mounted disc harrows installed on MTZ-82 and 80 are divided according to their purpose into:

  • Field. They are used for loosening the soil after row-crop work, processing plowed fields, as well as removing stubble and weeds. Some models can be equipped with special ballast boxes, which allows for deeper tillage.
  • Garden. Quite lightweight harrows with high maneuverability, designed for work in vineyards and orchards. Such a disker is capable of cultivating soil to a depth of about 100 mm.
  • Swamp. This is heavy equipment used for processing virgin and wetlands. The swamp harrow is able to cultivate soil to a depth of up to 200 mm.

Classification of disk drives

Diskators can be divided into various types depending on the specifics of the work performed, the scope of their application and the technical characteristics of the equipment used.

According to their purpose, disc harrows are divided into the following categories:

  • for soil cultivation work;
  • to clear the soil of weeds;
  • for creating meadows and pastures;
  • for removing stubble and incorporating plant residues.

The disker helps in cultivating the soil.
Each type of disker presented has its own specific features that allow them to be used effectively to solve specific problems. The distinctive features of disc drives of this classification are manifested in the sizes of working units and mechanisms. So, for chopping the stems of cereals and mulching, so-called hullers or mulchers are used. They are characterized by small disc diameters - 400 - 500 mm, low load on the disc - 30 - 60 kg. with mass values per 1 meter of width equal to 600 - 850 kg. Heavy disc harrows with more massive equipment have found their use when carrying out traditional seasonal work on tillage to a depth of up to 20 cm. The diameter of the disc part of such disc harrows is 550 – 650 mm.

The working load on the disk varies from 80 to 150 kg. In the case when there is a need to cultivate hard-to-cultivate virgin lands, as a rule, they resort to the use of super-heavy diskers. Such massive harrows are full-fledged disc plows that combine the functions of a plow and a harrow.

In addition, disk drives are usually classified according to the type of design and the location of key working units. The main element in this case is a disk organ or cutter. Its working surface can be one solid cutting element or several cutting edges evenly distributed around the circumference. In most cases, the cutter is made in the form of a hemispherical cup with a “daisy-shaped” arrangement of cutting elements. This configuration has proven itself in various operating conditions and is used on most disk drives of the BDN and BDU series. Such toothed discs, assembled in one section, make up a battery of disc harrows mounted in a suspended frame.

The number of discs and the working width of the disker may vary depending on the type of equipment.

Based on this feature, the following types of diskers are distinguished:

  • 3×4;
  • 2x4;
  • 4x4;
  • 6x4.

The first value indicates the working width of the grip, and the second allows you to judge the length of the suspended frame in the assembled state.

Based on the number of sections of a suspended disc harrow, two-, three- and four-row types of disc harrows are distinguished. The use of one type or another is determined by certain operating conditions and technical characteristics of agricultural machines.

Disc harrow device

The disc harrow, mounted on the MTZ-82 and 80 tractors, consists of a frame on which sections of several working bodies (disks) with a diameter of 450-510 mm and fixed on one axis are installed. The axle is fixed to the base by means of bushings in such a way that when the power unit (tractor) moves, the sections with disks rotate. All disc harrow sections have adjustable working width and attack angles.

Disc harrow design

As a rule, disk batteries are installed in several rows. The section that is closer to the tractor breaks up the soil, and the second, on the contrary, covers the soil to retain moisture. For more efficient harrowing, the front and rear battery disks are offset relative to each other's axis.

Device Features

Depending on the design features, trailed disc harrows for MTZ 82 can be divided into several types:

  • Field harrows. This type of equipment is used for loosening pre-treated soil, as well as for removing various vegetation from fields. Some models can be equipped with additional weights, which allows the harrow to sink deeper into the ground.

For more information about the operation of field harrows, watch the video:

  • Garden harrows are not as large in size, but this only adds additional maneuverability to them, which is necessary for cultivating soil in confined spaces. Due to some design features, garden harrows can be immersed in the soil to a depth of about 10 cm.
  • Swamp harrows. This type of equipment is the heaviest, designed for processing virgin soil, as well as swampy areas. Such devices can be immersed in the soil to a depth of 20 cm.

In general, no matter what type of unit the disc harrow is, it has a similar design and structure. It consists of a frame to which several sections with disk elements are attached.

They are mounted on one axle, and their diameter can be different - from 45 to 51 cm. The axle is attached to the frame using bushings, so when the tractor moves, the sections with disk elements rotate. If necessary, you can adjust the sections by changing the angle and width of tillage.

Disc harrow

Sections with disks are installed in a frame in several rows. Angle of attack, i.e. the degree of penetration of the disk elements into the ground can vary within 20 degrees. Accordingly, if the soil has increased hardness characteristics, then the angle of attack should be greater.

The operating principle of the disc harrow is carried out according to the following principle. The section with discs, which is located closer to the tractor, performs primary loosening of the soil, and the second section covers it. To improve this process, the axes of these sections are shifted towards each other.

Disc drive selection

When choosing agricultural equipment, in particular a disc harrow, the following should be considered:

  1. The metal from which the agricultural attachment is made and its thickness. For a disk drive, it is optimal to use metal with a thickness of 6 mm.
  2. The reliability of the frame of this attachment and how durable its design is.
  3. Characteristics of working bodies.
  4. Availability of spare parts for the selected model on the market and their affordability.
  5. Reviews about the selected harrow model.

The manufacturer of agricultural equipment is not always a fundamental criterion when choosing equipment; closer attention should be paid to the general characteristics. In addition to obvious advantages, any equipment also has its disadvantages, which must also be taken into account when deciding to buy a harrow, new or used, even at an attractive price.

Depending on the model, the equipment may have the following disadvantages:

  • when harrowing wet soils, the roller may become clogged;
  • there may be insufficient depth of tillage;
  • When passing the last row, a ridge may form.

Also, when choosing a harrow, you should definitely take into account the tasks for which you decided to buy a harrow. Among these tasks, the following should be highlighted:

  • removal of weeds;
  • cultivation of the land after plowing the field;
  • crushing layers of earth on various types of soil.

It is also worth considering where disc harrows are supposed to be used, which, as already mentioned, are divided into field, garden and swamp. The fact is that the size of the working parts, the thickness of the edges of the equipment and the shape of the cutout on the disk depend on this.

Factors influencing price

The following factors have a significant impact on the cost of mounted disc harrows:

  1. Completeness of equipment. The more complete the equipment of a mounted disc harrow, the correspondingly higher its cost.
  2. Territorial location of the seller. Purchasing equipment directly from the manufacturer may be cheaper, but it is worth considering that the cost of delivery will also be added to the price of the harrow, and nowadays transport services are not cheap. Accordingly, the further you are from the seller, the higher the cost of the purchased equipment.
  3. Manufacturer. Russian companies producing agricultural equipment offer their products at the lowest prices, but Belarusian equipment has better quality. So, the cost of a harrow will largely depend on the chosen manufacturer.
  4. Material. The cheaper the material used in the manufacture of the harrow, the lower the final cost of the equipment will be.
  5. Time of acquisition. In winter, when there is practically no agricultural work, prices for equipment decrease, and, conversely, in the spring they are much higher.
