Engines and transmission of Amkodor 451A loader
The diesel engine is located at the rear of the forklift. It is fixed to the frame at three support points. The support is rigidly attached to the rear sheet of the diesel engine, serving as a supporting structure for the shock absorbers and at the same time serving as a casing for the damper mounted on the diesel flywheel.
Amkodor 451A forklifts are equipped with D-245 and D-243 diesel engines from the Minsk Motor Plant (MMZ). These are four-cylinder in-line four-stroke liquid-cooled engines with a displacement of 4.75 liters. Diesel D-245 is also equipped with a turbocharging system.
The rated power of this modification of the D-245 engine (D-245-163) is 77 kW (105 horsepower), it is achieved at a crankshaft speed of 2200 rpm. The maximum torque of this diesel engine is 384 N.m. at 1500 rpm.
The rated power of the D-243 diesel engine is 59.6 kW (81 horsepower) at 2200 rpm. Cylinder firing order: 1 – 3 – 4 – 2. Cylinder diameter – 11 cm, piston stroke – 12.5 cm. Minimum engine speed – 600 revolutions per minute, maximum – 2380 revolutions per minute. Compression ratio – 16:1. Diesel fuel consumption rate is 226 g/kWh. Engine oil consumption during warranty service is 1.1% in relation to diesel fuel. Right rotation. The engine's dry curb weight ranges from 430 to 490 kilograms.
The engine control system is mechanical, without CAN bus support. Diesel fuel injection system: direct injection, injection pump with mechanical regulator. Power take-off for the fan – 3.7 kW. The rated voltage of the electrical system is 24 V. The negative terminals of the power supply are connected to ground.
Despite the strong similarities, the D-245 and D-24Z have a number of differences, namely:
- The D-245 camshaft is five-bearing, while the D-24Z is three-bearing.
- Oil pumps have different capacities; more precisely, they are not pumps, but pairs of gears that drive them differently.
- The high pressure fuel pump drives are slightly different. The injection pumps themselves are different: the D-245 has a regulator with an anti-smoke corrector and other settings.
- The engine block itself of the D-245 is different - with cooling nozzles for the piston bottoms, with a flange for draining oil from the turbine, with 5 camshaft supports.
- The heads are different: the D-24Z has a head without valve seats, while the D-245go has seats made of heat-resistant cast iron. The rocker shaft lubrication in the D-24Z goes through an external tube, and in the D-245 - through a drill in the head. On the D-245, the valve guides have chamfers for oil seals. The aluminum inlet pipe installed on the head is different than on the D-24Z.
- The piston is different - the D-245 has a teresist temperature insert along the upper compression ring on the piston.
- The injectors are configured differently.
- Different exhaust manifolds.
The engine cooling system is closed, with forced circulation of coolant. It consists of a block of radiators, pipelines and a curtain of rubberized fabric, which regulate the thermal operating conditions of the diesel engine. Working together with the engine is a hydromechanical gearbox, which has two forward speeds and one reverse. It allows the forklift to move around its work sites at a speed of 20 km/h forward and 11 km/h back. Hydromechanical transmission is designed to transfer power flow from the engine to the drive axle drive, converting torque and rotation speed in magnitude and direction. It transmits mechanical energy through a circulating fluid flow and automatically infinitely changes the transmitted torque, depending on the external load.
Along with high reliability and unpretentiousness, the advantages of this power unit include its endurance. The Amkodor 451A loader is able to freely overcome a slope of up to twenty percent in size and length of 12 meters, including when its working body is fully loaded.
Engine
To improve the technical characteristics of the Amkodor 451A, the installation of a D-245 engine with a power of 105 horsepower is provided. The 4.75-liter inline-four model is turbocharged. The maximum torque is 384 Nm.
A hydromechanical gearbox with two gears is installed together with the engine. It allows construction equipment to move around the work site at a speed of 20 km/h forward and 11 km/h back.
The advantages of the power unit include endurance. The loader can overcome a slope of up to 20 degrees with a length of 12 m when the working body is fully loaded.

Chassis, suspension, axles Amkodor 451A
The high load capacity of the Amkodor 451A is due to the use of a high-strength and extremely reliable frame. The motor, working units and power transmission systems, front and rear axles are mounted on it. The driving front axle has a rigid mount (rigid suspension), and the steered rear axle has a hinged mount, with the possibility of lateral swing (balanced suspension).
The cardan transmission transmits torque from the engine to the hydromechanical transmission, and from the hydromechanical transmission to the drive front axle of the loader. The design of the drive axle is carried out according to the central arrangement of the main gear reducer, brake mechanisms and wheel reducers.
The steered bridge is installed in a balanced manner. Through an axle fixedly fixed by a crossbar in the bridge beam supports, the bridge rests on the balancer bushings of the loader frame. This suspension, while maintaining equality of loads, allows the wheels to move relative to the frame. Moving over obstacles exceeding 20 cm must be done at minimum speed, since the wheels and frame form a rigid system.
Steering and brake control
The design of the forklift uses a hydraulic volumetric steering mechanism with drive to the wheels of the drive axle. The steering is driven by a hydraulic system. The brake system of the forklift includes a multi-disc service brake in an oil bath. The disc-and-pad parking brake is represented by a single-disc dry friction mechanism, with a spring and hydraulic release. It is installed on the input flange of the drive axle and also acts on the wheels of the drive axle.
Modifications
The Amkodor 332 C 4 loader has two modifications. As standard, the machine is equipped with a three-spool hydraulic distributor.
The Amkodor 332S4-01 universal loader is equipped with a four-spool unit. It also has several distinctive features:
- separate pneumatics, driven by axles;
- increased speed when moving in any direction;
- the modification is more efficient, reliable, productive, and maneuverable;
- front axle brakes and energy accumulators on spring clamps with air release;
- drum brakes in wheel hubs.
There is also a modification 332С4-02.
Loader hydraulic system
The hydraulic system of the Amkodor 451A forklift contains two hydraulic pumps, which operate in conjunction with loading equipment and a steering mechanism. A priority valve for the brake system and a two-section distributor with direct mechanical control are also installed. The pump is a 2-section gear pump, type NSh-5OM-1O-Z.
The working fluid from the hydraulic tank enters the suction of the pump and then, under pressure, is supplied to the priority valve, and then to the inlet of the hydraulic distributor, from where, depending on the position of the spools, it is sent to the working cavities of the hydraulic cylinders or returned back to the hydraulic tank. The hydraulic tank is located on the right side of the forklift and is a welded container.
The pressure in hydraulic systems, which is limited by safety valves, is: loading equipment - 16 MPa; steering 16 MPa; service brake 4 MPa; parking brake – 5 MPa.
Maintenance
Amkodor tractors are used in various industries and farming. To maintain them in working condition, scheduled technical and repair work should be carried out in accordance with the operating instructions.
- The recommended crankcase oil is LUKOIL products. It has successfully passed tests and is approved for use in engines for Amkodor tractors. The engine oil should be changed every 250 operating hours. The average crankcase volume is 12 liters.
- For the transmission, lubricants with classification SAE 80W-90 API GL-5 should be used. The operating instructions recommend using TNK Trans oil.
- The axle oil should be changed every 1000 hours of operation.
- Diesel fuel also has special requirements. The sulfur content in it should not exceed 350 mg/kg. Otherwise, a large amount of soot will form.

Amkodor 451A cabin and operator's workplace
The advantages of the cabin of this model of forklift include a fairly large amount of free space, which does not at all hinder the operator’s movements during work. Safety of work is guaranteed by panoramic glazing of a large area, with wide glass. By moving this lever forward from the neutral position, first and second gears are engaged, and by moving it back, reverse gear is engaged. The left pedal is the brake pedal. The parking brake handle is located on the seat base on the left side. The loading equipment is controlled by two levers. When the left lever moves forward, the lift carriage rises, and when moved backward, it lowers. By moving the right lever forward, the forklift is tilted forward, and by moving it backward, the lift is tilted backward.
