Motor Sich walk-behind tractor: reviews and technical specifications

The popularity of walk-behind tractors in Russia continues to grow. Previous models designed to perform a limited number of tasks are becoming a thing of the past, and more advanced versions are taking their place. The Sich family is considered one of the most famous walk-behind tractors on the market in the CIS countries. The manufacturer of this equipment is located in Zaporozhye (Ukraine). This enterprise has been operating for more than 100 years and, in addition to walk-behind tractors, produces gas turbine units and engines for helicopters and airplanes. That is why Motor Sich products are of high quality. The equipment is assembled in Ukraine, making it significantly cheaper than its foreign counterparts. There are quite a few service centers for the repair and maintenance of products of this brand in Russia, which allows us to minimize losses associated with forced downtime and reduce the cost of repairs and maintenance.

Sich walk-behind tractors represent a heavy class. They are actually small mini tractors and are versatile, allowing you to perform various operations. This equipment is manufactured in compliance with advanced international standards, which makes it safe to operate, reliable and environmentally friendly.

Design and features

The Sich family of walk-behind tractors includes quite a few models. However, they all have a similar design with the following elements:

  • PTO;
  • gearbox with four forward and two reverse speeds. The transmission is gear-based, power is transmitted through a differential;
  • swivel mechanism;
  • track width adjustment mechanism;
  • lockable differential;
  • flange mounting of the motor to the direct drive transmission.

Sich equipment works with a large range of trailed and mounted equipment. Among the most popular devices are:

  • hiller;
  • harrow;
  • mower;
  • cultivator;
  • potato digger;
  • potato planter;
  • plow;
  • ripper;
  • corner mowing unit;
  • hinged frame;
  • adapters AD-2V and AD-3V from.

The scope of application of Sich walk-behind tractors is very wide due to their high power and the ability to work with many types of additional equipment. The equipment is suitable for use in the garden, on the plot, in the vegetable garden, in agriculture and public utilities. This walk-behind tractor copes with the transportation of large loads. It can also be used to remove snow, organize watering, remove garbage, hill up beds and collect potatoes. However, the main use of the device is soil cultivation.

The consumer receives the Sich walk-behind tractor in a preserved form. Before starting full operation, it needs to complete several steps. First of all, you will have to reactivate the device: tighten the bolts of the differential locking modes, mount the steering column, inspect the gear columns and perform the remaining actions provided in the instructions from the manufacturer. The important issue here is the type of oil used. The manufacturer recommends using the following oils: TSp-15K, TAD17I, TSL-4 and TAp-15V. At the same time, there is a serious nuance in the functioning of the walk-behind tractor’s clutch. The design itself has a high service life and reliability, fulfilling its purpose without any complaints. However, with prolonged inactivity, the clutch discs may “stick together,” which leads to problems when engaging the desired gear. A similar situation occurs only when using oils declared by the manufacturer, therefore it is better to use imported analogues, the quality of which is usually better than Russian or Ukrainian ones. In this case, the likelihood of the clutch sticking is minimal.

User manual

The instructions for the walk-behind tractor regulate the process of assembly, maintenance and operation of the device. It describes the assembly of cutters, maintenance intervals and other important information regarding the operation of the device. Before work, the walk-behind tractor must be removed from the original packaging, assembled, filled with fuel and oil, and only after that, turn on the engine for the first time.

Oil and fuel

  • Engine oil for Motor Sich walk-behind tractor: SAE 10 W - 30 API SF or SG.
  • Gearbox oil: TAD-17I, TAP-15V, TEP-15, TSP-15K, TSL-14 according to GOST 23652.
  • Fuel: diesel, gasoline.

Frequency of changing all types of oil: every 50-100 hours, depending on the workload of the walk-behind tractor. Maintenance is carried out in the same way as with any other walk-behind tractor: once a season, as well as annually, to prevent engine malfunction.

Instructions for first start-up and running-in

Before starting, make sure the gear shift lever is in neutral. While the walk-behind tractor is working, you should not use excessive force; do not push the device forward, but only guide and set the movement mode. The starting process is best done in first or second gear.

Before stopping, the walk-behind tractor should run in idle mode for 5-10 minutes. After stopping, close the fuel valve. From the moment of the first start to the completion of the running-in process, an average of 20-25 hours pass. During this time, both the gearbox and the engine adapt to the load.

Basic faults

Main malfunctions of Motor Sich walk-behind tractors, their causes and elimination

2. It’s hard to change gearsThe gear grooves are dirtyCleaning grooves
3. Oil leaks through the PTO housingThe O-ring has worn outReplacing the ring
4. Oil leaks from the gearboxDamaged oil seal (cuff)Replacement with a new one

Run-in

Before full operation, the Sich walk-behind tractor must be run in. This will extend the life of the equipment and ensure good performance. Before the procedure, you should tighten the bolts, create the required tire pressure and fill the device. When running in, it is important to find out which engine is in the walk-behind tractor. Some nuances of the process will depend on this. During the break-in process, the equipment should be operated in a gentle mode for the first 8-10 hours of operation. Do not turn on full power and strain the device too much. The following rules must also be observed:

  • Check the oil level before each start of the engine. If necessary, it should be topped up;
  • First, you need to let the walk-behind tractor run at medium speeds, and then gradually increase them. It is better to try all gears to test the features of the motor. At this stage, not only running-in is carried out, but also the selection of the optimal position;
  • After testing the gears, you should check the functional parameters of the device. Here it is advisable to try cultivation, tillage and cargo transportation. All work should be performed with medium loads.

Upon completion of the break-in, you should check the main components and change the oil.

Sich walk-behind tractors have their pros and cons. Advantages of technology:

  • high ground clearance, allowing you to work on rough and uneven terrain;
  • a sufficient number of gears to ensure smooth operation and optimal fuel consumption;
  • a wide range of attachments and trailed equipment available for the walk-behind tractor;
  • the presence of a power take-off shaft;
  • adjustable track width;
  • flange mounting of the engine to the transmission;
  • adjustable steering column (vertically and horizontally);
  • conveniently located control levers.

Disadvantages of Sich walk-behind tractors:

  • low maneuverability. The device has a large rotation angle, so in small areas it is very problematic to cultivate the land with its help;
  • noisy engine (Ukrainian versions). For Chinese units, this problem is not relevant;
  • large mass. It is very difficult to transport a walk-behind tractor, but for cultivating the soil the extra kilos are a plus;
  • ill-conceived design of the standard cutter. This device has a small working width, which is why a lot of fuel is consumed for tillage;
  • The quality and cost of spare parts raises many questions.

Despite the existing shortcomings, Sich walk-behind tractors are among the most popular models in their segment. Due to their versatility, they allow you to cope with various tasks, and the affordable cost forces many to choose this technique.

Modifications and name

The Motor Sich enterprise currently produces several modifications of walk-behind tractors with gasoline and diesel units of various capacities. Relatively recently, a model with a 13-horsepower engine appeared in the lineup. Information about power and engine is hidden in the name of the modification: the first 2 letters mean “walk-behind tractor”, the numbers mean the power of the unit, the letters after the numbers mean the type of power plant. If the last letter is “E”, then this indicates the presence of an electric starter, the letter “D” indicates a diesel engine type.

Gran, I'll just install it this weekend. Currently in a warehouse in the city, I’ll take it to the village on the weekend. The flange can be turned over, the turner did so. I'll try the options and write.

Airstrate, Why should they rush? Here, and not only here, everyone claims that MSA has a huge margin of safety and outstanding quality. I've been driving big wheels for three seasons now. Diameter 720 mm. With double ballast. . I just removed the ballast from the wheels, I think it was a design mistake, I just hung it on the walk-behind tractor. Usually those who don’t have them don’t like big wheels. I didn’t throw out the small ones, I thought maybe I’ll have to go back until I felt the need.

Modified reversible plow for MS:

Any margin of safety has its limit. Although, it’s easier for you with spare parts, but for us this is an unaffordable luxury

. I wouldn't risk it.

avm2, Original plow 32.5 kg. The middle jumper may be superfluous, and dirt will again become clogged. Make a good video of a plow plowing

nospin, the MS cast iron is the most massive of the three heavy MBs. Judging by the messages and photos in the general thread and the model threads, the MS has the smallest safety margin of the three MB. The side drive gear was licked only by MS, there was a discussion. Oil leakage through cast iron was also discussed, but it happened more often with MS than with MTZ. The actual disassembly of the MS gearbox with damage to the gear, there were two cases, then some removed their engines to check the tightness, fixation and changed the screws to bolts, even ran the threads. Also discussed with the photo. Later, Oleg Vagin in Belarus at an ostrich farm with the engine removed on the MTZ 09 was surprised at how powerfully and reliably the MTZ gearbox shafts were fixed compared to the MS. I sent photos from there to the forum. I have nothing against any of the MB, but let's not start the "Old song about the main thing" and about "The very, the very."

ValNik, About making a video, it’s not for me. It’s easier for you, you live in Kharkov, you can go to a bulatochka shop, look and touch it with your hands. I can only envy you; such plows are unlikely to be on sale here.

Michael. I was somewhat sarcastic, but you didn’t quite understand me. I’m in no way going to sing an old song, and the MSA has plenty of shortcomings. I don’t know if I would buy it again. In any case, having some experience in operating and repairing various equipment, I constantly catch myself thinking that THIS (both MTZ and MS) was designed and manufactured by very strange designers and for some purposes only known to them. Of course, to complete the picture, it would be necessary to use MTZ, but probably not anymore it will work out.

Reviews of Sich walk-behind tractors

  • I bought a Sich MB-9 walk-behind tractor in the spring of 2011. I liked the technology for its unpretentiousness and reliability. I chose this particular model because my neighbor had the same one. Sich MB-9 combines many advantages. Among them are good tillage speed and high power. Thanks to the gasoline unit, the equipment could be operated in sub-zero temperatures. Problems often arise with diesel models in this regard. Plowing the soil with Sich MB-9 is easy and quick. True, there is a significant disadvantage here - quite high fuel consumption. The walk-behind mill works very well. This technique comes with many additional devices, making it truly universal. The walk-behind tractor did not cause any serious problems during operation.
  • Sich MB-6 is an excellent technique that will help cultivate both light soil and virgin soil. Using a walk-behind tractor, you can plant potatoes, transport cargo and make furrows. However, attachments will have to be purchased separately. A 5.5-horsepower engine is enough for 6 acres. The motor runs smoothly, without failures or loud noise. I liked the Sich MB-6 gearbox with 2 rear and 4 forward speeds, which is a lot for this type of equipment. The controls operate smoothly, and the walk-behind tractor itself responds instantly to commands. The adjustable steering column improves operating comfort. The main drawback for me was the weight of the equipment - 217 kg. Transporting the Sich MB-6 became a real problem. Also, when driving with a cart, the turning angle was very large. Otherwise, I am completely satisfied with the walk-behind tractor.
  • I have been using the Sich MB-6 walk-behind tractor for more than 5 years. The model does not require complex maintenance and is unpretentious in operation. If you wish, you can buy additional equipment and even convert the equipment into a mini tractor. I used a walk-behind tractor on a plot of 70 acres. The Sich MB-6 does not have enough strength for initial plowing, so in the spring it is done by a tractor. Then it’s time for the walk-behind tractor, which does all the other work. With its help I carry out spraying, loosening the soil, weeding, cultivating, hilling, planting potatoes, transporting various cargoes and mowing. During the period of use there was only one serious breakdown. A bolt in the gearbox came loose and slightly jammed the teeth in the gear. We managed to fix the problem on our own. I also replaced the ignition switch and kickstarter cord. Other disadvantages of the model include the high cost of attachments and spare parts and the inconvenience of working with cutters (for normal operation you have to reinstall the wheel gearboxes, which is very difficult). The advantages of the Sich MB-6 are its compactness, many adjustments and settings, the absence of open gears, high-quality design, the presence of a locking differential and a power take-off shaft.
  • This is the third year I have been using the Sich MB-6D walk-behind tractor. The device is unpretentious in operation and reliable. The advantage of the diesel version is low fuel consumption with good technical characteristics. In winter there were no problems with the equipment, but in severe cold weather the walk-behind tractor did not start. Plowing on the Sich MB-6D does not require much effort. Convenient controls and compactness make this process as comfortable as possible. The walk-behind tractor does not immediately take up virgin soil. To achieve normal processing depth, it was necessary to go through the area several times. The main disadvantage of the Sich MB-6D is considered to be the poor design of the cutter. It has a small grip and grinds the soil too finely, which is not always required.
  • I bought a Sich walk-behind tractor the year before last after purchasing a plot of land (10 acres). I had no previous experience using this technique. However, the model turned out to be very easy to operate and maintain. With the help of Sich I clear the field, cultivate and hill up the land. Additionally, I purchased a cultivator, hiller and plow for the walk-behind tractor. The equipment turned out to be quite expensive, but it paid for itself. In the future I plan to make a mini tractor out of a walk-behind tractor. The disadvantages of this model are the large turning radius and the small number of specialized stores.

Modern walk-behind tractors are a simplified version of a small tractor. They are highly mobile and versatile in agricultural work. With this tool you can till the soil, water the beds, dig or plant potatoes and other potatoes, transport goods and even remove snow.

Depending on the type and power of the engine, this technique will be useful for both a small suburban area and a large farm.

On models with differential this also includes special traction. The steering wheel on the motor of Sich tractors can be rotated 180 degrees for ease of operation.
