General information
The Patriot brand originally originated in America, and not in Russia, as it might seem at first glance. Later, walk-behind tractors under this brand began to be produced in China. Cheap labor in this country has significantly reduced the cost of the model. But at the same time, production is under the complete control of American specialists. Moreover, the Chinese Ural assembly plant meets all international standards. Many modifications allow you to choose the best option depending on the customer’s needs.
The Patriot Ural walk-behind tractor is considered more expensive than its Russian counterparts. The model range of the American brand is extensive and diverse, and in terms of reliability, Patriot products are in many ways superior to domestic models, which is an undeniable competitive advantage. The Patriot Ural technology has existed in Russia for quite a long time, and is among the most popular.
Motoblock Neva with Russian (Soviet) engine
Russian engines for the Neva walk-behind tractor have not been produced for a long time, but there are still a lot of similar walk-behind tractors on the market. And since you can’t buy a new Russian engine anywhere, everyone buys a modern engine and a special installation kit.
Procedure:
- We choose a new modern engine with a 19.05, 20 mm or 25 mm shaft (if you had a low-power domestic engine, we recommend choosing options with a 19.05 or 20 mm shaft).
- We take a special installation kit with a similar shaft (for 19.05 mm, 20 mm or 25 mm shaft)
Answers to common questions:
- What is included in the installation kit? Transition platform, pulley, damper, fastenings.
- Is it difficult to place? With an installation kit - no. There are also many installation instructions on YouTube.
- Can I just buy a new pulley? It’s possible, but you’ll save little and waste time.
Purpose and design features
Patriot Ural is a durable device designed for processing soil of any complexity. The equipment is also suitable for transporting goods over short distances. The reinforced frame provides superior off-road capabilities. In addition to the frame, the design of the device may include additional attachments.
- The reinforced frame can serve as a handle for convenient movement of the walk-behind tractor. The frame also protects the motor in the event of a rollover. The main frame has several holes to which a “hitch” is attached, driven by a drive pulley. This equipment has the ability to bend in order to protect it from scratches and other external influences.
- Additional frame - located under the bottom of the engine compartment. By design, this is a simple technical addition, but it plays a very important role in terms of increasing functionality. The frame is so strong that it will support various containers and boxes, and at the same time protect the motor from collisions and shocks. For greater reliability, an additional frame is attached to the main frame and control handle.
- The walk-behind tractor is equipped with a three-speed gearbox and a belt clutch. The gearbox is made in a cast iron housing, which is very resistant to increased loads. Also, the cast iron construction avoids various leaks. The gearbox is convenient to operate due to the fact that its lever is located towards the operator.
- If necessary, you can remove the fenders and mudguards that trap clods of earth.
- The list of equipment includes a powerful headlight with effective lighting regardless of the time of day.
- Cross-country ability is improved by pneumatic wheels. Their impressive dimensions give confidence when overcoming bumps, bumps and other off-road elements.
- The design of the device includes a separate lubrication system. This means that there is no need to mix fuel and oil when filling. In addition, this system increases torque. The basic version of the walk-behind tractor includes tillage cutters, an S-shaped coulter, a bracket, discs and pneumatic wheels.
User manual
The work of every new owner should begin with familiarization with the operating instructions. This document describes the sequence of assembly, running-in, operation, maintenance and preservation of the Ural walk-behind tractor.
First start and run-in sequence
- The correct start of work with the Ural walk-behind tractor is the key to its long-term use.
- The device must be assembled in accordance with the recommendations of the user manual.
- Then you need to add fuel, lubricant and run-in.
- During break-in, it is recommended to use the walk-behind tractor at half its maximum power. After delivery from the factory, the engine parts are not yet lubricated and there is a lot of friction on them. To prevent this from causing the walk-behind tractor to fail, you should work in a gentle mode for the first 8 hours of operation.
- At the end of this period of time, the oil must be changed.
Service
A distinctive feature of the design of Ural walk-behind tractors is their ease of maintenance.
Before each departure, you must check the following:
- Reliability of fastening of all parts and assemblies of the walk-behind tractor; if they are loosened, they should be tightened;
- Condition of electrical wiring. Starting operation with exposed wires is strictly prohibited;
- The condition of the V-belt drive, it is impossible to work with delaminated belts;
- Fastening of attachments;
- No oil or gasoline leaks.
The engine oil should be changed every 50 hours. To do this, it is recommended to use SAE 10W-40 lubricant.
Engine
Patriot Ural is offered with a single 4-stroke engine. The engine, called Patriot Garden, has a good margin of safety, despite the fact that it is assembled in China.
The engine supports 92 gasoline and does not require additional lubrication. Patriot Garden has a displacement of 220 cubic meters and a power of 7.8 horsepower. The unit is single-cylinder, with a tank capacity of 3.6 liters.
Installing a Lifan engine on a Ural walk-behind tractor
The factory equipment of Ural walk-behind tractors assumes the presence of a domestic engine. In some cases, the power and performance of such a motor is not enough, so there is a need to remodel the equipment. Equipping a Ural walk-behind tractor with a Lifan engine with your own hands is quite simple, but before starting work you need to decide for what purpose the equipment is being created and select a suitable engine.
Certain engines are suitable for walk-behind tractors of different types and weights, so it is important that the parameters are combined. The heavier the walk-behind tractor itself, the more powerful the engine should be.
Models such as Lifan 170F (7 hp), 168F-2 (6.5 hp) are suitable for the Urals. Their installation requires minimal modification.
The main feature that distinguishes Chinese engines from domestic ones is the direction of shaft rotation: for Lifan it is to the left, for factory Ural engines it is to the right. For this reason, the walk-behind tractor is configured to rotate the shaft to the right; to install a new engine, it is necessary to change the position of the chain gear so that the pulley is on the opposite side, which allows it to rotate in the other direction.
After the gearbox is on the other side, the engine is installed in the standard way - the engine itself is bolted, the belts are placed on the pulleys, and their position is adjusted.
Prices in Russia
New and used copies of the Ural Patriot are widely distributed on the domestic market. The average price of a new car is 28 thousand rubles for the basic configuration. The most equipped version will cost about 33 thousand rubles. On the secondary market you can find a walk-behind tractor with attached equipment and in good condition. This option will cost between 20-25 thousand rubles.
Among the most striking analogues of the Patriot Ural walk-behind tractor are the models Sich MB-8, Ugra NMB-1N1 Kaluga, as well as Tselina MB-801 and Daewoo Dat M 80110.
Description
The description of the Ural Patriot walk-behind tractor should begin with the fact that this machine was assembled by a defense enterprise from Bashkiria called TsMPO JSC. This is one of the best examples of the transfer of military production to civilian lines.
Ural walk-behind tractors have a low price and high quality
The walk-behind tractor gained its popularity due to its ease of operation and high maintainability. This car can be repaired on the go, and there are no problems with access to spare parts.
Main features of the Urals:
- cultivate areas up to a hectare;
- the capabilities are not limited only to soil cultivation - it is capable of removing snow and transporting loads when using the proper attachments;
- the device’s transmission is equipped with four gears;
- thanks to a maximum speed of up to 15 kilometers per hour, it is well suited for transporting goods in conditions of poor or no roads;
- has increased stability due to the width of the wheelbase;
- It is possible to adjust the track based on operating conditions, which significantly increases the efficiency of the unit.
Attention! Models of the Ural walk-behind tractor are equipped with both domestically produced and foreign engines. The choice of one option or another depends entirely on the preferences and budget of the consumer.
In this video we will review the Ural walk-behind tractor:
Owner reviews
- Alexander, St. Petersburg. I've been using it for three years, no problems. I actively use it for plowing and hilling. The model is powerful enough for my needs. Good maneuverability is ensured by reverse, and it is also more convenient to work with in difficult areas. I bought a mower and hiller, the functionality has increased several times. Average fuel consumption is around 2 liters per hour, at maximum load it reaches 3 liters.
- Alexey, Krasnodar region. Patriot Ural is a very good walk-behind tractor, but not without sin. It has a well-thought-out design, and at the same time, noticeable flaws. For example, I almost immediately noticed play in the control handle. The frame is welded unevenly, and besides, poor fastenings spoil the impression. Well done Chinese, they found something to save on. Despite the assembly flaws, the equipment drives and works normally. Consumes no more than 2 liters per hour.
- Pavel, Stavropol region. It’s a good walk-behind tractor; it will come in handy for plowing and harvesting. I have 20 acres, but the Urals have plenty of potential. I'm still happy with the car, after a year of intensive use.
- David, Yaroslavl. I love the American auto industry, including the Dodge Nitro itself. Patriot Ural is as reliable as my SUV. I bought an additional trailer, hiller and plow for it.
- Dmitry, Kaliningrad. My Patriot is much better than its Russian counterparts. It not only has an attractive design, but also high performance. The machine is very beautiful, and the power is quite satisfactory - a medium-power walk-behind tractor is enough for me. I didn’t even consider diesel options, since in Russia there are problems with the quality of this fuel. Over the past two years of use, the equipment has shown itself to be great. I replaced the clutch disc without having to call a technician. I will even say that this walk-behind tractor is like a construction set - it is easy to assemble and disassemble. It must be admitted that the Patriot Ural is noticeably more expensive than Chinese cars, although it is assembled in China, but using American technology. But I don’t pay attention to the assembly location; for me the main thing is functionality and reliability.
- Yuri, St. Petersburg. Overall I liked the walk-behind tractor, with the exception of some quibbles. For example, I would like to note that spare parts are quite expensive compared to their Chinese and Russian counterparts. But at the same time, the walk-behind tractor is famous for its greater endurance. After three years of operation, the clutch began to work every now and then - it turned out that this was due to a jammed handle. Otherwise, everything is normal, consumption is at the level of 2-2.5 liters.
Engines for the Ural walk-behind tractor: UMZ-5B
Carburetor engines of the Ulyanovsk Motor Plant UMZ-5 in the UMZ-5B and UMZ-5DU-B models, which were installed on the UMB-K Ural agricultural unit, are 4-stroke single-cylinder. They run on gasoline with a minimum octane number and have a forced air cooling system. They have a power of 4.5 liters. s., crankshaft revolutions per minute – 2000 (at rated power).
The UMZ-5B has a 2-stage transmission gearbox, while the UMZ-5DU-B device has a single-stage gearbox - this is their main difference. The gearbox diagram is shown below.
The operating manual and repair instructions for these Soviet-made motors include:
- recommendations for engine care (what oil to fill and how to change it, how to clean the fuel tank, how to change spare parts);
- procedure for action in case of malfunctions;
- algorithm of actions for correct adjustment of the internal combustion engine carburetor.
The correct operation of the entire system will depend on the correct adjustment of such an important component of an internal combustion engine as the carburetor.
- First, be sure to warm up the engine, and at minimum speed you need to tighten the idle speed screw all the way, and then unscrew it a little, about 2.5 turns.
- Next, you need to close the throttle valve and, by rotating the limiter screw, set a smaller opening angle at which the engine runs smoothly and without interruption.
- It is necessary to “catch” the moment when the internal combustion engine reaches its maximum speed by screwing in and unscrewing the idle speed screw.
- Now the screw that regulates the opening of the damper is again set so that its opening angle is minimal, provided that the motor operates smoothly.
- If the speed increases, steps 3 and 4 must be continued until the engine speed increases.
Another modern walk-behind tractor
At the moment, there are hundreds of different brands of walk-behind tractors on the market - from market leaders like Brait, Patriot and Chamption to little-known brands that have sunk into oblivion as quickly as they appeared. But there is no reason to worry!
All these companies either order production directly from China or import engines and gearboxes separately and assemble the walk-behind tractor in Russia. One way or another, structurally Chinese walk-behind tractors are completely identical, regardless of the manufacturer.
The high level of standardization has led to the fact that choosing a new engine for a walk-behind tractor is not at all difficult, regardless of the brand of the walk-behind tractor.
All Chinese walk-behind tractors can be divided into two main groups:
- With belt drive (chain gear)
- With disc drive (with gear reducer)
The main visible difference is the engine location.
In belt-driven walk-behind tractors, the engine is located “on the side” . The key shaft goes in one direction, onto which the pulley is placed:
The following walk-behind tractors are belt-based: Brait BR-80, Neva, Patriot Kaluga.
For walk-behind tractors with a disc clutch, the engine is located front-facing:
Disc-based walk-behind tractors such as Brait BR-105, Patriot Nevada and Huter GMC-9.0
