Purpose of the mining crawler excavator EKG-15

The EKG-15 quarry excavator is a representative of massive earth-moving equipment that maintains stability at a tilt of up to 120. The ability to move along steep slopes and a large bucket clearly determine the scope of operation: quarrying, elimination of sliding waste heaps, geological excavation and mining work in open areas. Using an excavator you can:

  • open up and develop large layers of soil (category IV inclusive);
  • remove valuable minerals;
  • lift and unload overburden into dumps or auxiliary special equipment.

EKG-15 is also used in industrial construction in preparation for laying foundations and in mainline construction (expensive construction).

The excavator collects bulk materials (sand, clay), crushed stones and soil. As a rule, it is used in conjunction with mining dump trucks, unloading the contents of the bucket into them.

The components of the bucket are the front and rear walls, bottom, rocker arm and block. High-strength steel is used in the production of the bucket. Its body is connected with the bottom and rocker arm using fingers. The steel handle, through a connection, transforms into a boom on which a pressure system, blocks and a winch are installed. The boom is based on a rotating platform. It is on it that the dynamics mechanism, electrical system, body and rack parts are located. This complex is crowned by the driver's cabin. Next, let's look at the technical characteristics of the EKG-5A excavator.

The climatic conditions of quarry work require the production of several types of machines based on temperature fluctuations:

  1. For temperate climates (±40 °C) – “U”.
  2. For cold climates (+40 - −50 °C) - “HL”.
  3. For work in the Far North (+40 - −60 °C) - “C”.
  4. For tropical climates (+55 - −20 °C) - “T”.

Design features

  • a rack-and-pinion pressure mechanism with a double-beam handle and an all-welded box-section boom ensures better mining of heavy rock faces of large-sized or poorly blasted rock masses;
  • The bucket is lifted by rope, pulleyless type with automatic equalization of forces in the branches of the lifting rope;
  • welded-cast ladle with wedge-type self-tightening teeth fastening. Free-falling bucket bottom with widely spaced hinges, eliminating dynamic contact with the handle;
  • excavators are equipped with a lifting winch, which facilitates repair and installation work;
  • ventilation units provide air injection into the body and create excess air pressure in the body;
  • shoe-type brakes of the main mechanisms with a pneumatic drive for releasing the brakes;
  • the undercarriage is two-track. An open, low-support type track with a separate drive for each track ensures accessibility for inspection and repairs. The drive wheels (“sprockets”), which have replaceable cams, are raised and freed from support reactions. The tension of the caterpillar tracks is carried out using built-in hydraulic cylinders. Forced ventilation is used on propulsion engines;
  • The main metal structures of the excavator are made of alloy steel, the boom and handle are made of high-strength steel.
  • the main mechanisms of the excavator have an individual adjustable electric drive;
  • The automatic lubrication system reduces to a minimum the cost of maintaining the excavator during operation.

Specifications

Weight and size. EKG-5A is a medium-tonnage quarry-type shovel mechanism. Weight including counterweight is 197 tons. The width of the tracks is from 900 to 1400 mm. The bucket is capable of accepting from 4.6 to 6.3 cubic meters of bulk rock. Moving around the perimeter of the quarry, the machine reaches a speed of 0.55 km/h. The greatest slope when going uphill is 12o. The stroke length of the caterpillar mechanism is 5.83 m.

Lift-and-swivel. The length of the excavator boom is 10.5 m, the angle of inclination is 45°.

Radius:

  1. Digging - the largest is 14.5 m, at the parking level 9.3 m.
  2. Unloading (largest) – 12.65 m.

The operator of the ECG excavator can rotate the platform around its axis. The turning radius is 5.25 m. The highest height from which rock excavation is carried out is 10.3 m. The bucket can rise at a speed of up to 0.87 m/s. The EKG-5A power plant allows you to develop a lifting force of up to 50 tf.

Duty cycle. The cycle of turning the excavator platform by 90° lasts 23 seconds. Platform rotation frequency – up to 3.5 revolutions per 1 minute. The pressure force at a constant speed of 0.45 m/s is 20.5 tf.

Electrical equipment

Electrical equipment elements (transformer and distributor), a winch, rotary gearboxes and a compressor are installed on the turntable. To ensure the safety of excavation work, the external working units of the excavator are sealed by the body.

EKG-5A is equipped with a G-D type drive (generator-motor). To ensure performance characteristics, a magnetic amplifier (MU) is installed. The type of electrical circuit is single-line. The main electric motor AE113-4U2 develops a total power of 250 kW. A current with the following characteristics is supplied to the excavator's electrical network:

  1. Frequency - 50Hz.
  2. Voltage - 6 kV.

The power supply and operation of the system mechanisms is carried out from a high-voltage point. For half an hour of continuous operation, the EKG-5A consumes electricity from 250 to 275 kW. Two types of cable are used in excavator operation:

  • KShVG-3 x 16 + 1 x 6;
  • KSHVG-T - 3 x 25 +1 x 10.

The source of control for the electric motor is a switchgear, which is equipped with:

  • a switch that can withstand current up to 1.25 A;
  • manual drive;
  • fuse for 8 and 16 A.

For safety reasons, the EKG-5A excavator has a reliable grounding system.

It is carried out along the contour through a special core. Stable and balanced operation is ensured by appropriate blocks and units.

Modifications

In addition to the basic version of the ECG-5A, the manufacturer also released several modified ones, namely this:

  • Modification of ECG-5B. This version has pneumatic impact bucket teeth, which allows the equipment to cope independently with rocks and hard soils. The teeth are driven by a pneumatic system.
  • Modification of ECG-5D. This model is equipped with wide caterpillar tracks and a special system that allows you to control the operation of the equipment remotely.
  • Modification of ECG-5A-US. It differs from the two previous modifications in its working bodies, which are of medium length. The main purpose of this modification is to excavate widened stopes.

Series 8I

The ECG excavator, the technical characteristics of which we will consider further, is equipped with an electric motor with a power of five hundred and twenty kilowatts. The mass of this huge equipment is 373 tons. The machine is capable of climbing slopes over ten degrees, maintaining all operating parameters.

A modernized version of this series is an excavator under the symbol EKG-8-US. It is equipped with a longer boom, handles benches and at high heights, and is also suitable for loading products onto dump trucks and rail cars. The machine has a 10 cubic meter bucket. m, can lift loads weighing up to 110 tons. The unit is reliable, stable and has good maneuverability.
