Motoblock AGAT (Salyut) 5L 6.5 with Lifan/FORZA 6.5 hp engine.

Motoblock Agat L-6.5, one of the most popular in the line of Agat motoblocks. The model is an analogue of the Salyut 5 walk-behind tractor, the gearbox of which has 4 forward and 2 reverse speeds. The Agat L-6.5 walk-behind tractor is equipped with the popular Lifan 168F-2 engine with a power of 6.5 hp, and is designed for processing small and medium-sized plots of up to 50 acres.

Like all Agat walk-behind tractors, the L-6.5 model is exceptionally reliable, and is structurally a classic walk-behind tractor with a power take-off pulley, the cutters of which are installed on the drive axle instead of wheels.

This walk-behind tractor, thanks to its design features (power take-off pulley and trailer bracket), can be used all year round and perform a wide range of work.

Briefly about the manufacturer

The Agat walk-behind tractors, popular in Russia and the CIS, as well as some other examples of similar equipment, are of “aviation” origin. Gavrilov-Yamsky Machine-Building Plant (Yaroslavl region) was founded in 1968 and was engaged in the production of fuel control equipment for aircraft engines.

The MIG-23 plane is opposite the entrance to.

This plant, which became a branch of the Moscow engineering production association “Banner of the Revolution,” was originally located here to solve the demographic problems of the purely textile “city of brides” Gavrilov Yam.

By 1977, the enterprise had mastered the serial production of a number of aircraft units, and by the turning point of 1991 it had reached its record production volumes. During the 90s, these volumes decreased tenfold, as did the number of workers at the Agat State Metallurgical Plant.

Among the civilian products, the production of which the plant mastered as part of the conversion program, are hydraulic distributors, hydraulic valves and other hydraulic equipment products installed on lifting, construction, road, and municipal equipment. In 2002, universal self-propelled units, motoblocks of the Agat brand, were launched into series.

Design features of Agat walk-behind tractors

Initially, this family was a complete copy of the Salyut-5 walk-behind tractor. Since a large order was placed at Agata for the assembly of walk-behind tractors of this model, which are in great demand. All main components (engines, gearboxes, etc.) were supplied by the manufacturer - the Moscow Scientific and Production Center for Gas Turbine Manufacturing "Salyut". The assembly technology and design support were also entirely the responsibility of Salyut. When the cooperation was completed and the supply of parts stopped, GMZ "Agat" continued producing walk-behind tractors, already under its own brand and with Chinese engines.

In their appearance and most of the technical characteristics, the Agat walk-behind tractors were similar to the Salyut models. They were also roughly comparable in quality. And the Salyut enterprise, by the way, soon also switched to equipping walk-behind tractors with Chinese-made engines.

The purpose of the Agat walk-behind tractors is the mechanization of heavy manual labor for cultivating the soil in vegetable gardens and personal plots; and also (thanks to a variety of additional equipment) it is possible to perform some other chores.

The company promotes its products at various exhibitions.

Motoblocks "Agat" are equipped with a three-speed gearbox (two speeds for moving forward and one in reverse). Motoblocks of this brand are equipped with economical single-cylinder, four-stroke carburetor engines with a power of 5 to 7 horsepower.

The gear reducer is of oil-filled type and aluminum housing. Thanks to the gear connection, the reliability of the transmission increases.

The clutch in the walk-behind tractor is carried out thanks to the tension of the V-belt drive belt and includes the following elements: a control lever located on the steering column, a tension roller, a return spring and a V-belt. This transmission is suitable for any type of work and load.

The main distinctive feature of the design of Agat walk-behind tractors is the low center of gravity, which greatly facilitates work. The design provides for easy installation/disassembly of the steering and wheels in order to easily transport the walk-behind tractor in the trunk of a car. In terms of their technical and operational parameters, Agat walk-behind tractors are at the level of the best domestic and foreign manufacturers.

All Agat walk-behind tractors have the following main structural elements: a frame, which consists of two high-strength steel angles. Protective fenders, a support, a power unit, a steering column, a gearbox and other components are secured to the frame with bolts. Due to the low center of gravity, shifted forward, the walk-behind tractor is almost impossible to tip over.

Configuration and additional equipment of Agat walk-behind tractors

The standard equipment of the Agat walk-behind tractor includes cultivator cutters. In addition, all kinds of special attachments are used with this equipment. Its most common models:

  • Lugs of various diameters. Used for transportation, weeding, plowing and hilling.
  • A plow designed for plowing land with medium resistance. Made from special structural steel and has a collapsible design.
  • Rotary mower – mows and places grass in special rollers. It is installed in front of the walk-behind tractor and is used for mowing grass and coarse vegetation. According to the owners' reviews, it also copes with mowing a single small bush; grain crops. Many people note that after using a rotary mower, there is no need to collect the grass with a rake: it is laid in an even row. This equipment is not afraid of stones and anthills.
  • Potato planter - used for planting potatoes to a given depth with embedding in the ground and forming a soil ridge of the required height. It can be equipped with a fertilizer sowing device that allows you to simultaneously apply mineral fertilizers.

  • Hiller - used for soil cultivation (weeding with loosening, cutting beds, hilling). Has a collapsible design.
  • Potato digger – used for harvesting potatoes and other root crops from the ground.
  • Trailer for transporting cargo weighing up to five hundred kilograms. Unloading is carried out by tilting the body towards the rear side. An additional option is galvanizing the body.
  • Chassis trolley - used for transporting goods and cultivating land by attaching a plow, potato digger and other additional equipment to it.
  • Motoblock brush “ShchRM-1” – for cleaning areas of various sizes. This device not only sweeps up the remaining snow and debris, but also “brings shine.”
  • Snow blower "SM-0.6" - used for removing snow in small areas. Due to the rotation of the augers, it simply throws the snow to the side at a distance of 3-5 meters.
  • Knife blade “LM-100” - used for removing debris and snow from sites, sidewalks, paths, as well as for leveling the soil. In one pass, a meter-wide path is cleared, and the walk-behind tractor itself works on the principle of a mini-bulldozer.

Expanding the capabilities of the walk-behind tractor

By purchasing a walk-behind tractor, a thrifty owner expects to use it to mechanize most of the work in the agricultural cycle.

Description and purpose

There are various models on the market. All Agat walk-behind tractors, as well as the model range based on it, differ in the amount of horsepower. The main difference is in the Lifan gasoline engine, for example, the Agat Lifan 6 walk-behind tractor has 6 horses, and the Agat HMD walk-behind tractor has 6.5 - 6.5 hp.

Important! The main parts of walk-behind tractors have the same design, but the difference in power makes individual configuration of each model mandatory.

Essential elements:

  • frame made of two steel angles. All other elements are attached to it, including the power plant and support. The center of gravity is located lower than similar types of walk-behind tractors, which makes the equipment more stable;
  • special type of transmission. There are two forward gears and a reverse gear. The gearbox includes a gear base and an aluminum housing. The entire set of control and operation systems is considered suitable for work of any load level;
  • gasoline or diesel engine (depending on the specific model);
  • hitch for trailed equipment;
  • pneumatic wheels for universal maneuverability and the ability to carry out various works.

In this video you will learn how to plow a ridge with a walk-behind tractor:

Important! The agate is collected on the basis of Salyut, but there are differences. For this reason, you cannot use a manual, manual or operating instructions for another model range for maintenance and operation.

Each type of model has its own exceptional features that must be taken into account during production. It is also necessary to calculate in advance the required power for the work that will be performed, since the model range includes both powerful and low-power models.

The use of machinery is not limited by type of agricultural work. It is used both as a mini-tractor and as a small device for carrying out a number of procedures, including the technology of planting potatoes using a walk-behind tractor.

Motoblock "Agat" in action: reviews from owners

Motoblock "Agat BS-1" with a Briggs&Stratton engine . At the initial stage (the first 1-2 years), the engine worked decently, producing the necessary power, after which problems began.

The unit began to work unstably, often stalled, and was difficult to start. In total it lasted for 5 seasons: the connecting rod broke and the engine had to be replaced. Replaced it with a Lifan engine. This motor seemed better than the previous one. Plowing, transporting cargo and working on the land turned out to be easier with it.

I also used it with homemade rakes. The maximum load that was transported on the walk-behind tractor was 530 kg. Operating the Agat is very simple. It’s enough to just hold the handles so that it doesn’t “dig in” and doesn’t jump to the surface too much. One day was enough to process my plot (15 acres).

Motoblock "Agat L-6.5" with a "Lifan" engine . He gave the walk-behind tractor a lot of work - he actively cultivated the plot with it, planted potatoes, plowed and cultivated, hilled and transported loads.

The Agat L-6.5 is unpretentious in operation and requires little fuel. The downside is light weight. Sometimes the walk-behind tractor simply gets knocked out of the strip being processed, so it won’t hurt to install additional weights on the lugs.

The gear selector is located on the gearbox, which is very inconvenient. No other comments were found during the work. The walk-behind tractor copes with any job, and is not afraid of sub-zero temperatures - in winter it is used to remove snow in the yard and in front of the yard. The Lifan engine starts up perfectly and runs stably.

“Start the engine!”

The two-year experience of using the Agat KhMD-6.5 has been successful so far. After several years of cultivating the beds, such mechanization of work is simply heaven and earth.

“Agat KhMD-6.5” was used very actively after running-in. In your own garden, and then on the land of your relatives. The speed of cultivation pleased me, as did the fuel consumption. The engine always starts the first time (you need to move the “flag” on the carburetor). There are practically no downsides to the operation of the walk-behind tractor. The only thing I don't like is the steering wheel mount. Everything else pleased me.

“Agat BS-1” is an ambiguous technique, with its pros and cons. The first outings on the site surprised and pleased - the walk-behind tractor pulled perfectly, although with a small depth of tillage. Moreover, even at second speed it went and processed perfectly. But after just a few days of operation, the walk-behind tractor began to “be capricious”: “shoot” from the exhaust pipe and “sneeze”. Then the power and speed began to decrease.

Changing the oil slightly improved the situation, but these problems did not go away completely. For the second season, too: at first “Agat” worked great, but then it “sank down” again. At the end of the second season, oil began to leak from the gearbox. I asked the dealer and they said it was normal. So there is an ambivalent attitude: the equipment seems to work and cope with the tasks, but it is not flawless at all, and even from the first season of work.

I have been using the Agat walk-behind tractor with a diesel engine for two years. This technique suits everything. I ran it in as expected and immediately started working with it intensively. At first speed, the walk-behind tractor calmly takes up virgin soil (but in several passes, through a gradual deepening).

The gearbox is not very well designed, because there is no oil dipstick on it. To find out the volume, you have to do a long drain. The axis on which the cutters are mounted is constantly stained with oil, although oil does not leak from under the gear selector rod. But I didn’t have any other problems with Agat.

I have “Agat” - this is my first walk-behind tractor, I’ve been using it for the first year and I’m very pleased. The earth is dug up not like a shovel (in pieces), but downright! And all the weed roots are cut and fly out. And all this is very fast and convenient. You free your arms, legs, and most importantly your back from excessive stress by digging up the entire garden by hand. I dug up my 12 acres with the Agat walk-behind tractor in 25 minutes! These are simply miracles and the technique is working great so far!

I purchased the Agat walk-behind tractor about 7 years ago. With a motor (I strongly DO NOT recommend that anyone buy equipment and, in particular, engines from this company). Because the walk-behind tractor worked poorly with this engine, often stalling, although I did the run-in strictly as expected, and after about 5 years the connecting rod broke.

I had to buy and install a new engine, the Lifan brand. After running-in, the walk-behind tractor with the new engine began to do things that it could not do before: plowing, transporting a homemade wheelbarrow with a full body, etc. However, it was not without modifications: for the mower we had to make a front trailed one, for plowing we had to order a driven pulley larger diameter than factory (to reduce speed).

“Behind the wheel” of the “Agat” walk-behind tractor.

I have been using the Agat walk-behind tractor, also known as Salyut-5, for three seasons. I ran it in as expected and even more than that. The Lifan 168-F2 engine has very high power, I would even say excessive for such a baby. I plowed virgin soil with it too. True, in several passes, gradually going deeper, but walk-behind tractors are not designed for such actions. + Pros: Excellent loosening, easily pulls 6 cutters on medium-density soils. It pulls uphill like a tractor, but on the descents the power is lost somewhere. — Cons: The seals on the axle where the cutters are attached are of poor quality and constantly leak oil. That's why the axle is damp all the time. There is no oil dipstick on the gearbox; you only know how much to add once you have filled it. Starting a walk-behind tractor seems simple and commonplace, but no: you still need to adapt, since the starter cord must be pulled out almost to its entire length.

The Agat-Salyut 5 walk-behind tractor left a mixed impression on me. I tried to work with different walk-behind tractors, so I have something to compare with. The jambs began to emerge soon after the start of operation. If at first he pulled the plow vigorously (only the cutting depth left much to be desired), and at the same time he walked well in second gear. Then, after digging 30 acres, he began to act up: shooting with the exhaust pipe and sneezing.

After changing the oil, these symptoms subsided (but not completely), and the initial power readings decreased slightly. I didn’t plow with it in the following seasons, but it does cultivation better than anything else: the soil is soft, loose, and the roots of the grass are crushed. Despite its small dimensions, the power is good and it is easy to drive. The oil constantly leaks and the engine rattles loudly, but it works efficiently.

I bought an Agat with a Briggs&Stratton Intek PRO206 motor about 5 years ago. I just exploited it mercilessly all this time. From the very beginning, after the first 20 acres, I additionally bought new cutters to increase the coverage of cultivated land. With 6 cutters, the processing speed has noticeably increased, with the same quality, and the motor runs normally. The cutters themselves are not of very high quality; they have to be sharpened often, after every 50 acres. Since the metal is bad, one set has already been ground down.

The motor itself is too powerful for such a light device. It thins out the oil a little. The Agat walk-behind tractor, in my opinion, is too light for cultivating dense soils, and there are no hooks for placing weights. I place a barbell plate on top. + Pros: Large, with reserve, power, versatility, excellent cultivation. — Cons: Lightweight, oozes oil, strong engine vibration is transmitted to the handles - your hands get tired quickly.

The Agat walk-behind tractor is entering its third season.

I bought this miracle of Russian-Chinese technology three years ago. The first impression of the work of “Agatom” was great. It crawls on its own, just correct the movement, sometimes lifting it if it is buried. But it soon became apparent that oil was escaping from under the gearshift rod. And it drives like that normally. It's impossible to see the level. To do this, you need to drain all the oil and see how much there was.

With this doubt, I went to the dealers. There they assured me that this is the case for everyone. That there are no oil seals and therefore the oil is and will continue to be driven. In the fall, problems began with the clutch. And it has a belt, like in a variator. I opened the casing and there were belts. In the third year the engine (Lifan) died. It smokes, smokes, but there is no power.

In my experience, the costs of oil and gasoline are negligible compared to the benefits that the Agat walk-behind tractor brings. What I like most is the way he cultivates. The cutters finely shovel the soil. After cultivation, the soil turns out to be soft, loose, and your feet will sink right into it. This is a big plus of this walk-behind tractor. One of the advantages I would say is the great relief of physical labor.

The walk-behind tractor itself is small, quite light, stable, and does not fall over on its side. The work is done much faster than doing it without a walk-behind tractor. Saving time and effort in person. It is simply impossible to loosen the soil with a shovel like that.

Cost of the Agat walk-behind tractor

The new Agat walk-behind tractor costs, depending on the brand and power of the engine with which it is equipped (see review above), from 27,000 to 38,000 rubles.

The manufacturer also offers a wide range of additional equipment for it. The prevalence of walk-behind tractors of this brand throughout the country is quite large, so there are many advertisements for the sale of used Agat equipment.

Depending on the technical condition, the price of a used Agat walk-behind tractor will range from 10,000 to 18,000 rubles.

Thus, based on the reviews of the owners, we can conclude: the quality of Agat walk-behind tractors and the Chinese engines with which they are equipped is not always the best. As they say, how lucky is anyone. Almost all owners note oil leakage and loss of engine power, unstable operation if given intensive tasks. Therefore, “Agat” is not well suited for plowing. But it performs cultivation (loosens the soil with cutters) excellently.
