How to lubricate the trimmer gearbox? Trimmer lubrication points

Tips for builders | 08/02/2017

Sometimes, in the midst of intensive mowing work, your trimmer begins to make unpleasant, grinding sounds. This complains about the lack of lubrication of the gearbox - the most intensively loaded unit of the device. And soon these “warnings” may be followed by jamming of the drive...

How to lubricate a lawn mower gearbox

Gearbox for brushcutter
Buying any equipment is a lottery, but a lot also depends on the gardener. In caring hands, Chinese samples last a long time and do not let their owners down at the wrong time. And if you forget to lubricate the brush cutter gearbox on time, do not clean the filters, or use cheap, low-quality gasoline, then garden equipment from the most famous brands will become a headache.

Lubrication of the brush cutter gearbox is one of the most important elements of maintenance of a gasoline trimmer, which must be carried out directly by the user.

Time and procedure for gearbox maintenance

I recommend that you carry out preventative maintenance on a new gasoline trimmer immediately after purchase, adding lubricant to the gearbox. Despite the high cost of gardening equipment, some manufacturers save money and add only the minimum amount of lubricant for the break-in period.

How often to lubricate the gearbox of a brush cutter

Often, a preventive inspection of the transmission with the addition of liquid grease is carried out once a year at the beginning or end of the season. If you do not use a gasoline trimmer professionally, this is enough.

For large mowing volumes, it is necessary to lubricate the brush cutter gearbox every 20-50 hours of operation. If the operating conditions of garden equipment are difficult, for example, a large field is mowed at the same time, and the lawn mower simply does not have time to cool down, or cheap lubricants are used, then the lubricant must be checked and added every 20 hours of operation.

Indirect evidence that the gearbox needs to be lubricated can be overheating or increased noise of the unit.

I also recommend a complete replacement of the lubricant, including disassembling and washing the unit, when purchasing a used gasoline trimmer.

Range of lubricants for garden equipment

According to the instructions, a special gear lubricant should be used to lubricate the bevel gearbox. As a rule, manufacturers of garden equipment produce and recommend chemicals of their brand as the most adapted to their devices.

At the same time, to reduce the cost of operating garden equipment and increase the attractiveness of the auto chemical brand, lubricants for garden equipment are usually produced as multifunctional ones. It is intended not only for lubricating the gearboxes of gasoline trimmers, but also for treating hoses, gears and gearboxes of any garden equipment and mechanical devices operating under high loads.

This gear lubricant is sold in tubes that are convenient for use and subsequent storage.

Even if the specialized lubricant for the gearbox is almost completely used up during operation, the additives still create an effective lubricating protective film on the surface of the gears.

It should be noted that many owners of brush cutters in the former CIS use regular Litol-24 or lithium-based grease for CV joints to lubricate the gearbox. It is convenient to fill the gearbox using a 5 cc medical syringe.

The undoubted advantage of using Litol and lithium-based grease for refueling the gear of a lawn mower is the reduction in cost of operation. But there are nuances due to which spears are broken on the Internet gardening forums. My thoughts on the topic of what can be lubricated with lithium-based lubricants and what cannot be read in the article “Litol as a lubricant for the gearbox of a lawn mower.”

How to lubricate the gearbox of a brush cutter or gasoline trimmer

Side bolt 17 on the gearbox of a gasoline trimmer

For safety reasons, in order to avoid accidental starting, all maintenance work on the lawn mower must be carried out with the electrical cap/plug removed from the spark plug. Do not turn the trimmer over to avoid gasoline leakage.

Unscrew the side screw on the brush cutter gearbox. Depending on the manufacturer of garden tools, instead of a hexagon screw, there may be a wrench bolt, usually 17. The thread is normal, unscrew it counterclockwise. Be careful not to lose the sealing washer.

Add specialized lubricant

If no grease is visible on the inner end of the screw, then you need to add 3 - 4 grams. Rotate the gear by hand, changing the direction of rotation so that the lubricant is distributed throughout the gears.

Then reinstall the screw, tightening it securely.

Checking the correct application of lubricant to the angle grinder gearbox

The last step when servicing an angle grinder is to ensure that the lubricant is properly applied and distributed inside the gearbox. To do this, after the gear unit has been assembled, turn on the power tool without load for several minutes, while ensuring that there are no extraneous sounds, smells, etc. If they occur, you must immediately disconnect the angle grinder from the network. The heating of the gear unit is also checked. The lubricant must distribute heat evenly and the temperature of the gear unit should not be very high.

After some work, unscrew the 4 screws, then remove the cover from the gearbox. The helical gears should be visually inspected for the presence of lubricant. If it is missing, it means that too little lubricant was used and should be reported. If during work it is squeezed out of the cracks, then it means that there is too much of it and the excess should be removed. After making any changes, check the operation of the angle grinder again without load.

Purpose

When purchasing a new walk-behind tractor, the kit must include accompanying documents, which contain special sections with recommendations for proper care and operation. The names of oils ideally suited to the unit are also indicated there.

First of all, you should understand the basic functions of oil fluids. Liquids perform the following actions:

  • System cooling;
  • Obtaining a blurring effect;
  • Cleaning the inside of the engine;
  • Seal.

During operation of the walk-behind tractor in an air-cooled engine, the oil liquid begins to burn, and accordingly, the burnt particles remain on the cylinder. This is why smoke-filled exhaust is formed. In addition, tar deposits are the strongest pollutants for the remaining parts of the walk-behind tractor, which makes lubrication of parts more difficult.

To choose the right oil fluid, you should remember that each individual composition is intended for a specific season and climatic temperature.

  • The summer variety of oil liquid is used exclusively in the warm season. Has a high level of viscosity. There is no letter designation.
  • Winter varieties of oils are used during cold periods. They have a low viscosity level. Letter designation. W, which means "winter" in English. This variety includes oils with the SAE 0W, 5W, 10W, 15W, 20W, 25W index.
  • A variety of all-season oils are becoming more popular in the modern world. Their versatility allows you to fill the engine with liquid at any time of the year. It is these lubricants that have a special index in the general classification: 5W-30, 10W-40.

In addition to seasonality, oils are divided by composition. They are:

  • Mineral;
  • Synthetic;
  • Semi-synthetic.

In addition, all oils differ in the performance requirements of a 2-stroke and 4-stroke engine.

The price of the issue is, of course, high, but the response of the unit is its long service life.

In the gearbox

The gearbox is the most important part, because it is responsible for converting and transmitting torque from the gearbox. Careful care and high-quality oil used for the device significantly extends its service life.

To replace the oil composition in the gearbox, it is necessary to perform a number of manipulations.

  • The walk-behind tractor must be placed on some kind of height. best for the pit.
  • Then the hole for disposal of used oil is unscrewed. The locking plug is usually located on the transmission itself.
  • After this, a prepared container is placed to drain the damaged lubricant.
  • After complete drainage, the hole must be tightly closed.
  • When these manipulations are carried out, clean oil must be poured into the gearbox.
  • Then you need to tighten the hole plug.

The initial oil change is performed after the break-in time has passed. For example, in the Energoprom MB-800 model the break-in time is 10-15 hours, in the Plowman TSR-820 unit. 8 ocloc'k. But the Oka line of walk-behind tractors was designed with a 30-hour break-in period. Subsequently, it is enough to drain and fill in new oil every 100-200 hours of full-time operation.

How to lubricate the trimmer gearbox

Disassembled trimmer gearbox

Almost every brush cutter gearbox is equipped with a small technological hole, which is plugged with a special bolt during operation. After thoroughly cleaning the unit from any remaining grass and debris, you need to unscrew the screw and inject 1.5 to 3 ml of lubricant into the gearbox cavity, depending on the brand of the tool. For ease of dosage, you can use a traditional medical syringe. During the operation, foreign particles and objects must not be allowed to get inside the gearbox, as this can lead to intense wear of the gear transmission, as well as its jamming.

Experts recommend that at the end of the mowing season and long-term storage of the tool without work, disassembling the gearbox, washing the gears and bearings, and re-lubricating the unit.

DIY grease for an angle grinder

A self-made lubricant for grinder gears consists of a base and a diluent. The basis of homemade lubricant is usually a CV joint with molybdenum disulfide or Tsiatim-221. They have a second NLGI viscosity, so for use in an angle grinder gearbox, the base must be diluted. As a diluent, it is best to use simple mineral industrial oil, which, for example, is I-20 oil. To obtain a viscosity of NLGI 0, you will need to mix approximately 70 percent base and 30 percent thinner. The resulting mixture is thoroughly mixed and ready for application to gears and bearings of angle grinders.

Making your own lubricant

Timely maintenance of any electric tool is the key to its long-term and trouble-free operation. A properly functioning tool is also a guarantee of safety for the person using it. Using the tips given above, everyone can choose the right lubricant for the angle grinder gearbox and replace it without resorting to the help of expensive power tool service centers.

Requirements

High-quality oil that can be poured into a gasoline trimmer must meet a number of requirements and standards to ensure reliable operation of the device and its performance. The oil should:

  • Provide increased wear resistance for different parts (namely, the gearbox is especially susceptible to this)
  • Provide very low smoke and exhaust emissions;
  • DO NOT allow pre-ignition;
  • Mixes well with gasoline when exposed to low temperatures;
  • Have excellent viscosity and fluidity characteristics in different temperature ranges;
  • Be as safe as possible based on environmental impact beliefs.

As already mentioned, oil for a two-stroke engine will differ from the composition for a four-stroke engine. It has higher power, which is why its fuel comes out as a result of mixing a certain amount of gasoline and oil. For each lawn mower the ratio will be different. You can find out its meaning in the annotation for the device. These proportions must be observed with the greatest accuracy. When adding additives, you need to take into account the type of motor.

If mineral oils are used, then mixing should occur here and there in a ratio of 1: 25, 30 or 35, depending on the type. If we are talking about synthetic analogues, then the proportion will be 1: 50 or 80. In other words, a certain amount of oil is dissolved in the volume of gasoline.

Trimmer gearbox device

Regardless of the manufacturer and model, a modern trimmer is equipped with a gearbox to change the angle of transmission of mechanical energy between the drive shaft and the head with fishing line. Bevel gears are most widely used in lawn mowers, since, unlike spur gears, gears with helical teeth are able to withstand enormous speeds, have smoother engagement and have increased load-bearing capacity.

Main parts of the trimmer gearbox

In the duralumin housing (1) there is a gear shaft (2) and a bevel gear (3), pressed onto the driven shaft (4). To reduce friction forces during rotation, rolling bearings (5) are installed at the support points of the shafts. Any gear transmission is a highly loaded mechanism, the duration of operation of which, the noiselessness and reliability of which depends primarily on the lubricant. Therefore, in addition to the main components listed above, the trimmer gearbox device includes a special hole through which you can lubricate the bearings and gears without disassembling the unit.

Prevention and possible malfunctions of the gearbox

The brush cutter requires the first maintenance to be carried out immediately after purchase, because the manufacturer provides a small amount of lubricant. If the trimmer performs a small amount of work, then lubricate the device at the beginning and end of the season. If the lawn mower works a lot, then lubricate it after 30-55 hours of operation.

The main faults include the most common options.

  • High heat. This indicates that the lubricant has run out. It is necessary to add lubricants and run them in on low mode.
  • The gearbox vibrates or wobbles. This situation indicates mechanical damage.
  • There is a knock. Then the bearing collapsed and the boot was damaged.
  • If the trimmer blade is jammed, the mechanism should be changed completely.

Trimmer gear lubricant: which one to choose?

Selection of gear paste

Currently, the market for gasoline-powered tools and consumables offers a wide selection of greases that are designed to reduce friction and overheating of rubbing parts. Therefore, every owner, when it is time for maintenance, is faced with the problem of how to lubricate the trimmer gearbox for long-term operation. For these purposes, special plastic pastes are used, which vary in properties and manufacturer.

Lubricant for famous brands of trimmers

Every brand that manufactures gasoline trimmers always recommends its own production of lubricant for the trimmer gearbox.

  • Husqvarna. This Swedish manufacturer recommends using Multi-Purpose Grease Grasa Universal. This material is available in blue-black tubes of 225 or 250 grams. According to the company, this trimmer gear lubricant was developed specifically for Husqvarna equipment, taking into account the steels used and operating speeds.
  • Stihl. For Stihl FS series lawn mowers, the manufacturer recommends using Stihl Superlub FS gear lubricant, available in 225 gram tubes or 80 gram disposable containers in silver-orange color.
  • Patriot. It is recommended to service the gearboxes of this brand of lawn mowers with original Arsenal lithium grease brand AR-417. It is specially designed for gear reduction gears operating at high speeds and temperatures.
  • Huter. For bevel gear models of tools from this Huter company, you can use any of the above brands of gear lubricants, as well as universal ones such as Rezoil, CIATIM and others.
  • Champion. In the instruction manual for the Champion lawn mower, the recommended lubricants include CHAMPION Super-Lube EP-O. The material is supplied in a 250 gram jar or in a disposable Premium Champion C1104 oil can.
  • Makita. This Japanese manufacturer advises its consumers to use Makita branded lubricant, which comes in white tubes with a red cap of 65 ml and 80 ml.

Factors for choosing a brush cutter gearbox lubricant

Often, the owner of a particular brand of gasoline trimmer is not able, for some reason, to purchase the lubricant recommended by the manufacturer. In such cases, you will need to search for an analogue whose properties will be identical to the branded paste.

Therefore, when choosing a paste for a lawn mower gearbox, you should pay attention to the following factors:

Lawnmower gearbox lubrication

  1. Lubricant viscosity. All pastes on the market are divided into three main groups, namely: high-viscosity (contain additives), solid lubricants (soften during operation of the unit) and universal plastic compounds.
  2. Lubricant consumption rate. This factor is taken into account based on the owner’s personal experience and is characterized by the period between two lubrications. Most manufacturers require that the gearbox be serviced every 20-40 hours of operation.
  3. Degree of adhesion to gearbox parts. This indicator is characterized by the adhesion of grease to the metal parts of the trimmer assembly.

Lubricate the trimmer video - tips from the online store Mow Scythe

We looked at what needs to be lubricated and how to do it in detail.
More detailed work can be seen in the video. The site’s clients also have access to photos in which each trimmer user will find useful information. In general, the lubrication process does not take much time and effort; our store offers the product itself at a low cost. That’s why, if you make a request online “to lubricate the video trimmer,” you will definitely end up on the KosiKosa website. Specialists filmed a video to provide the user with a complete understanding of the process of lubrication of individual elements and the trimmer gearbox, which is mandatory in the context of working with any type of mowing tool. Knives for brush cutters in Ukraine, as one of the types of cutting equipment, will always be offered by a specialized online store at competitive prices. From time to time, in the midst of busy mowing work, your trimmer begins to make an unpleasant, grinding sound. This complains about the lack of lubrication of the gearbox - a more actively loaded unit of the device. And soon these “warnings” may be followed by jamming of the drive...

During operation, the mechanical part of the trimmer is loaded with contact forces on the teeth, resistance reactions from adhering grass (from time to time with dirt), dynamic, shock loads due to constantly changing torque. Trimmer gear lubricant

must take into account these features in all respects, therefore the selection of a brand must be strictly personal.

The following reasons are taken into account:

  1. Manufacturer's brand. It is not unreasonable for any brand to focus on lubricants of its own production (we can talk about cheap Chinese products later). This applies to manufacturers such as Husqvarna, Stihl, Huter, Makita, etc. The exception is Russian-made trimmers: for example, Caliber in the user annotation does not show the brand of lubricant at all...
  2. Lubricant viscosity. As everyone knows, what remains for our client to do is that lubricating compounds are divided into three groups - high-viscosity (colloidal accounting systems containing various additives), plastic compounds of universal application and solid lubricants that soften during operation.
  3. Not bad adhesion to the surface of the gearbox parts, and therefore where lubrication is required, it is not squeezed into the gaps or out of the unit.
  4. The intensity of lubrication use by the gearbox. Here you have to rely on your weight characteristics, experience and advice from professionals, since some of the Russian automotive trimmer industry, relying on the presence of their own service centers, generally do not give clear advice regarding the period of operation of the gearbox between two lubrications.

Lubricate the shafts of the Huter GGT-2500S lawn mower. #128515; And all the other gas trimmers!

The consumption of a lubricant also depends on the temperature at which it retains its lubricity. When the gearbox is heated to 40°C, it is considered that its operating conditions are satisfactory and there is enough lubrication.

Characteristics and features of lubricants for angle grinders

When servicing any hand tool with moving parts, a lubricant is used that has the following characteristics and features:

  • It should not contain solid particles that could cause chipping of the moving parts of the mechanism.
  • The temperature at which the lubricant becomes liquid must be more than 120 degrees.
  • The oil should not absorb moisture and should form a durable film that protects parts from corrosion.
  • And also, most importantly, the oil must be of such viscosity that it is able to adhere to moving parts.

The consistency or viscosity of lubricants is classified according to the NLGI (National Lubricating Grease Institute), and in certain cases it is necessary to use oil of a certain thickness. The viscosity of the oil is selected depending on the speed of the gearbox; the higher it is, the thinner the oil should be. So, depending on the tool, the viscosity is selected:

  • Drills, hammer drills, jigsaws, where the gearbox has a low rotation speed. Lubricant with index NLGI-2 which is soft.
  • Lightweight rotary hammers and impact drills. Class NLGI-1, very soft consistency.
  • Angle grinders, circular saws, brush cutters. Class NLGI-0, semi-liquid consistency.
  • Heavy hammer drills, jackhammers. Class NLGI-00, consistency is liquid.

Engine starting

ICEs of household mowers are equipped with manual starters. The starter device is simple: a strong cord is wound onto a drum, which is directly or through a gearbox connected to the crankshaft, the start is made by sharply pulling the cord, and the drum unwinds, driving the crankshaft, which in turn starts the engine. More complex models are equipped with an easy-to-start Flash Starter system. This system has a special mainspring, which is twisted through a ratchet by several pulls on the starter cord, accumulating kinetic energy. After which, a special release button is used to release the latch, and the spring unwinds along with the drum and crankshaft. “Easy start” ensures faster start-up and lower energy consumption for the owner. Also, for quick starting, an additional fuel supply to the carburetor is provided with a special button. To supply an additional portion of gasoline, you need to press the button once or twice. The starter gearbox is lubricated with oil intended for lubricating the gearbox.

How to lubricate the trimmer gearbox?

In the upper part of the housing, where the gear block is installed, there is a technological hole, which is plugged with a screw during operation of the trimmer. This screw is unscrewed, and 1.5...2 ml of lubricant is injected into the hole using the spout on the tube. If the lubricant was purchased in a different package, then a regular disposable medical syringe will be suitable for this operation.

After this, the screw is installed in its original place. This procedure, regardless of the user’s recommendations, should be performed every 10...15 hours of using the trimmer in operating mode. Other reasons for updating or replacing the gearbox lubricant are performing minor routine maintenance on your own (for example, cleaning and washing the gearbox gears before the start of the summer season), repairing the unit, preserving the trimmer for the winter, etc.

If the gearbox assembly is disassembled, it is recommended to completely remove any remaining grease from the surface of the parts, even if it does not have traces of oxidation or contamination. How to lubricate a trimmer or how to lubricate the gearbox of a gasoline trimmer. And only then apply new lubricant. After applying the lubricant, it is recommended to rotate the shaft several times by hand and make sure that the lubricant is evenly distributed throughout all gearbox parts.

When lubrication, special attention is paid to the following elements:

  1. Flywheel: as a rule, grass residues intensively adhere to its surface, and thickening grass juice creates additional resistance.
  2. The starter coil pawl, which constantly comes into contact with the grooves on the flywheel when the drive is turned on. In this case, not only mechanical wear occurs, but also mechanochemical corrosion of the flywheel-pawl joint, since the materials of this pair are different (the flywheel is aluminum, and the pawl is steel).
  3. Bearings, if their seals are worn out, and through them the remaining lubricant is squeezed out. How to properly lubricate the trimmer reducer? #28 How to properly lubricate the trimmer gearbox Lubricating the gearbox. In this case, the unit begins to vibrate intensely when loaded. This happens with Chinese-made trimmers, so in the future it is worth thinking about replacing the bearing assembly with a better one, for example, from the Swedish company SKF.

Varieties

The oil that is poured into the engine may differ in the production method. In this aspect it happens:

  • Mineral. this type comes out during the processing of petroleum products;
  • Synthetic. it is obtained by processing or synthesizing gas;
  • Semi-synthetic. this type has more advanced properties due to the introduction of synthetic-based components into it.

Oil for lawn mowers refers to compositions created for use in air-cooled engines that have a combustion chamber volume of 50-200 cubic cm. In addition, any two-stroke oil may differ from its analogues in terms of additives, which give it certain additional properties . They come in the following types.

  • Anti-wear. The main task of the oil will be to reduce wear of parts during operation of the device.
  • Antioxidant. They DO NOT allow oxidation to occur and make it possible to preserve the working properties of the oil for a long time.
  • Anti-corrosion. Their task. prevent corrosion from forming on engine parts.
  • Friction modifiers. These additives can significantly reduce the coefficient of friction.

In the near future, when purchasing oil for dilution with gasoline, users very often encounter the fact that special letter abbreviations are applied to the canister. These designations are made as part of the API systematization. Let's look at what types of oils there are in accordance with it.

  • And it is used for air-cooled lawn mowers, the engine volume of which is no more than 50 cubic cm. It can be used not only for mowers, but also for mopeds, lawn mowers and other types of equipment. This is the best solution for a gasoline trimmer.
  • TB is used to refuel a chainsaw, scooter, moped or bike, the engine capacity of which does NOT exceed 200 cubic cm. It can also be used to refuel petrol trimmers.
  • TC is suitable for diluting with gasoline and pouring into a snowmobile, bike and other types of equipment.
  • TD is intended for refueling boats, yachts and hoverboards.

But in addition to this systematization, other letter designations of the FA-FD type are often found. It should be said that the API is a South American standard that is used in Europe. But there is a discrepancy between European standards for emission of smoke and South American ones. For this reason, additional letter designations should be taken into account.

  • FA can be used in states where low emissions of exhaust gases into the atmosphere are required by law. When using oil marked as such, barely noticeable smoke may be released.
  • FB. may be used in countries where smoke and gas emission restrictions are much stricter. In this case, virtually no smoke will be released.
  • F.C. here smoke appears of a transparent color that the human eye cannot see.
  • F.D. A special category of oils for 2-stroke engines, they do not produce smoke at all. They have high chemical properties. Typically, this oil is used for mixing with gasoline and subsequent refueling of boats and yachts.

In addition, oils come in two more categories:

  • Selfmix;
  • Premix.

In the first case, this will mean that you need to do the mixing yourself, which does not require shaking, and in the 2nd case you will need to do that too.

Removing and Lubricating the Upper Trimmer Shaft

First of all, we remove the lower part of the rod from the coupling, and then disconnect the coupling from the upper part of the rod (here we are talking about the coupling connecting the two halves of the rod).

Trimmer PRORAB-8406 with disconnected coupling and lower part of the rod

Now the most interesting thing: in some videos, like this one, holding the shaft coupling protruding from the top of the rod from below with pliers, knock it out of the rod along with the rolling bearing by hitting the pliers (here we are talking about the coupling connecting the upper and lower shafts). Some lawn mowers with a collapsible rod, as in the video, have a coupling connecting the upper and lower shafts that is pressed into the rolling bearing.

With our trimmer PRORAB-8406 and others like it, this number will not work. They do not have a rolling bearing, and the coupling (bushing) is a continuation of the shaft of the upper rod. There is a retaining ring installed at the top of this shaft, which must first be removed.

Place of attachment of the upper part of the rod to the clutch housing

  1. Unscrew the central screw completely. It secures the upper part of the rod, partially entering the hole drilled in it. Loosen the side clamping screws and remove the rod from the clutch housing.
  2. We push the shaft out from the top of the rod towards ourselves, as much as the play allows, in order to get to the locking ring and remove it. A special puller may be required*. Remove the retaining ring.

Retaining ring on the upper shaft of the brush cutter

  1. Without a locking ring, the upper shaft can be easily removed from the rod on the opposite side. We lubricate** it, not forgetting about the splines in the bushings (couplings) on the rod shaft and on the clutch shaft.
  2. We install the lubricated shaft in place in the upper part of the rod and secure it with a locking ring. We insert the rod into the hole in the clutch cover and align the hole on the rod with the threaded hole of the fixing screw.
  3. We screw in the fixing screw and secure the upper part of the trimmer rod with the side screws in the clutch cover.
  4. We clean the rod coupling from debris and install it from below to the top of the rod.

* I don’t have a puller, but I use two large paper clips to remove the retaining ring. First you need to straighten them, make half rings for your fingers on one side, and bend small hooks on the other.

** In many videos, technicians recommend using lubricant for CV joints; this is the best option. If it is not available, you can use Litol-24, which is rated for temperatures up to +130°C, to lubricate the shaft of the lawn mower. But solid oil, which has worse lubricating properties and operates at temperatures up to +70°C, is not recommended.

However, if you urgently need to lubricate the shaft of a lawn mower, but there are no suitable materials, then solid oil or even regular motor oil will be better than nothing at all.

Gasoline trimmer lubricant

Properly selected care for your lawn mower guarantees longevity and high-quality operation of the equipment. Manufacturers try to take into account all the nuances and prescribe what materials to use for maintenance. Typically, a specific type of lubricant is not specified; generally known standards are simply given that lubricants must meet.

The lubricant must be selected in such a way as to take into account temperature conditions, rotation speed, load dynamics and vibration. The main requirement is that this mixture remains in the zone of maximum friction.

Based on the above information, it should be noted that manufacturers of lawn mowers are developing universal additional tools for their equipment. It can be serviced with general industrial compounds. The main condition is compliance with operating conditions, namely, the presence of an anti-rust and lime substance in the composition, as well as a filler, which consists of a solid lubricant. Lubricant is poured into the gearbox through a special hole; the unit is not dismantled.

Replacement is done fairly quickly.

First, turn off the device from the network. Gasoline devices must be drained of gasoline. If the lubricant is changed completely, then be sure to flush the gearbox. To do this, first fill in the cleaner, then rinse the gearbox well, then drain

It is important to clean the housing completely. Using a special tool, which is included with the trimmer, you need to unscrew the gearbox plug. Apply new lubricant: insert a syringe with a tube into the hole and squeeze out the lubricant (2-5 ml). We manually turn the shaft and turn on the scythe at low speeds without load. This is necessary so that the lubricant is distributed efficiently to places subject to maximum friction.

Not the best lubrication option. Not much different from low-budget “graphite”.

The key to long-term operation of any mechanism is properly selected and high-quality oil. There are many similar products on the market, and price is not always an indicator of quality.

It is more difficult to choose narrow oil because it is less in demand, and sellers do not like to stock them with warehouses.

After purchasing the trimmer, 3-speed gear oil was purchased.

3-lube gearbox

Package 100 gr. About Bosch there were 250 rubles. It is expensive for this level of oil, but there was no need to buy a trimmer from a suitable manufacturer. I had to go to the construction market and with great effort find at least some oil for the trimmer gearbox.

Lubrication is produced in the Moscow region.

This company is actually quite good for car care products, but I wouldn't buy it for equipment lubrication.

READ Stihl Fs 55 brushcutter does not develop speed

Due to the fact that the trimmer practically does not lubricate, I decided to take a risk.

By the way, this oil can be used for toothed drills, that is, it can work at both high and low speeds.

The price is still too high. For 200-250 rubles you can buy high-quality oil from a well-known manufacturer.

Let's go to the list and use.

Removing the protective cap, we see a cone-shaped trunk.

Opening the tube (will have to be cut) This has a negative impact on the brand's budget, since without additional tools we will not be able to open this tube. On more expensive models, the tube opens from the back of the cover.

By the way, each trimmer brand is focused on its own brands of oils and lubricants. This is done specifically to sell their products. In fact, you can use any brand of lubricant. The main thing is that they meet the tolerances.

He was not lazy and found old oil from a well-known brand. Here, in my opinion, this is the best option for the mechanism. In other words, even the advantage of one oil over another is visually visible.

In the case of 3Ton, something inside turned out to be something very similar to CV joint oil interspersed with graphite. Even the smell of each other. Of course, I didn't do chemo. Analysis, but with 98% probability I can say that there is regular speed corner joint oil inside the pipe.

Compared to conventional lubricant

As a result, we guarantee that we overpay even more, because CV joints usually cost pennies.

The grease is easy to pump due to the conical shape of the nozzle.

The lubrication procedure is simple. Pour in oil, turn the shaft and add it. If the transmission is removed, oil may leak into the rear. This is actually good, so we push the oxygen plug out of the gearbox.

Gearbox Packing Also, the lubricator shaft is filled with this lubricant. Water is optimal for this purpose.

Initially, 12 acres of land were cleared. The oil in the gearbox did not leak and remained almost at the same level. The only gearbox is noisy. Here I cannot say for sure whether this is roofing felt made from low-quality lubricants, deficiencies in the production of roofing felt (new braid).

By and large, this is ordinary “graphite”, and there is no point in overpaying for it.

I'll use it as a temporary option and replace it with a more decent model soon.

If this oil was priced at 80 rubles, then I could recommend it, but for 250 it makes no sense to buy ordinary graphite oil. That's why 3ton is good as a car care product. When it comes to lubricants and oils, I prefer something else.

Responsible maintenance. The key to long tool life. One of the requirements for the operation of a brush cutter is timely lubrication of the gearbox, as well as cleaning of the filters. Every user of such a unit knows what compound to lubricate the gearbox. First clean in several steps, then remove the element from the housing. It is cleaned with gasoline and dried. The place for the filter is carefully prepared, clearing it of dust and old oil. The main signal for brush gear lubrication is extraneous noise and rapid heating of the equipment. This means you need to lubricate the part as soon as possible. Lubrication intervals are indicated in the instructions for the brush. According to experts, the transmission should be serviced every 15 hours.
