The LTZ 60 tractor is a general-purpose vehicle on wheels, produced at the Lipetsk Tractor Plant. The unit replaced the legendary “T 40” and was produced from the beginning of 1991 to mid-1994. In 1994, it was replaced by a modernized tractor under the symbol “LTZ 60ab 10”, equipped with a more powerful and efficient engine. In 1995, an improved model of the previous unit was born, under the name “LTZ 60 Av”. It was produced until mid-2004, when the company was declared bankrupt and was formed on its basis. Until 2008, the organization was part of the Agromashholding concern and specialized in the manufacture of parts and components for tractors and tractors. Today the plant produces modern models of general purpose machines and working equipment for them.

Modifications
There are several modifications of the LTZ-60 that are worth considering in more detail.
- The LTZ-60A was practically no different from the base model, with the exception of the engine. Instead of the D65M1L, the D-144, produced in Vladimir, was used. Despite the reduction in volume to 4.15 liters, the power of the power unit remained at 60 hp.
- The LTZ-60AB was equipped with a D-248 diesel engine with a power of 57 hp. with water cooling produced by the Minsk Motor Plant. The largest load capacity (900 kg) in the model range. Seven-speed gearbox. Single-plate clutch using a clutch with cermet linings and reinforced damper springs.
- LTZ-60AB-10 is a continuation of the AB series. The modification is universal, can be assembled with various attachments and is used for any agricultural, loading and unloading, utility work, cargo transportation and general purpose work.
- LTZ-60AV with a diesel engine of the base model D65M1L from the Rybinsk Motor Plant. An improved power steering was used, and the overall dimensions of the cabin were increased.
- LTZ-60AV-01 served old-type farms and had a lowered cabin.
Attachments
The tractor can be rationally combined with 120 types of various mounted units.
This station wagon is capable of replacing a combine and loader, a powerful truck and all-terrain vehicle, a snowplow and sweeper, an excavator and a mower.
Thanks to the optimal distribution of the structural weight on the rear and front wheels, minimal pressure is created on the soil, which makes it possible to use the LTZ-60 not only for cultivation and plowing, but also for inter-row cultivation of crops, spraying, and weeding of plants.
Features of operation and repair
A significant advantage of the LTZ-60 tractor is that the new machine does not require running-in, so from the very beginning it is allowed to fully load and perform heavy work.
However, before operating it is recommended to test the tractor for technical readiness:
- Serviceability of electrical equipment.
- The battery is properly secured and there are no electrolyte leaks.
- The play of the tractor steering wheel is no more than 25° when the hydraulic pump is turned on.
- Tightness of oil and fuel systems.
- The presence of a rubber mat in the LTZ-60 cabin.
- Clear operation of windshield wipers.
- Neutral position of all control levers.
The movement should begin after the driver is convinced that there are no obstacles (people, animals, property) near the LTZ-60 tractor.
During operation, it is necessary to carefully analyze the instrument readings, avoid overloads and smoke from the motor.
Do not brake sharply on a slippery road! Always check the functioning of the braking system before transporting loads!
The LTZ-60 tractor is serviced with fuels and lubricants according to a standard scheme in accordance with the maintenance schedule.
The machine is unpretentious in operation; repairs and maintenance work usually do not pose any difficulties.
High build quality, optimal access to the main mechanisms and systems, unification of components and parts - thanks to these features, LTZ tractors are distinguished by rational maintainability, durability and reliability.
Among the most annoying faults, owners note the structural inconsistency of the clutch basket, taken from the old T-40, with the modernized engine, which provokes breakage of the studs and fastening bolts in the clutch.
History of creation
The history of the LTZ-60 tractor began at the Lipetsk Tractor Plant (LTZ), created in 1943 on the basis of the production facilities of the large industrial enterprise Stankostroy. At the same time, a small workers’ settlement began to be organized nearby, called “Traktorny”. The first to be produced at LTZ was the Kirovets-35 tracked tractor, which had a gasoline engine. Wheeled modifications of this heavy equipment began to be produced at the enterprise in 1957.
During the operation of the Lipetsk Tractor Plant, many different models of tractors rolled off its assembly line. These were mainly all-wheel drive modifications. Already in 1970, LTZ manufactured more than half a million tractors. The plant produced the most T-40 tractors, the production of which lasted from 1961 to 1995. During this period, the company produced about 1,196 thousand different modifications of the T-40 for the national economy. The all-wheel drive tractor LTZ-60, which replaced the obsolete T-40, began production in 1991.
Unfortunately, in 2004, after LTZ was declared bankrupt, a new one was organized on the basis of the enterprise, which was part of the Russian machine-building concern Tractor Plants. In 2006, the company became part of Agromashholding OJSC, and the concern remained its partner.
In 2009, the work of the machine-building and assembly shops was discontinued; only some auxiliary production facilities functioned. Many factory buildings were demolished and empty ones were rented out.
Currently, in partnership with the Tractor Plants concern, the Volgograd Tractor Plant and the Cheboksary Aggregate Plant, which produces spare parts for tractors, it has begun producing tractor and loading equipment. The company also produces a modernized model of a universal row-crop tractor under the brand name LTZ-60AB. This suggests that there is hope for a revival of production.
Owner reviews
Vladimir : “If you choose an LTZ 60 or MTZ 80 tractor, then of course the Lipetsk one is better. Economical in terms of diesel, parts can be selected. In general, the design of the machine is very intelligently made, everything is clearly worked out. If you carry out maintenance on time and do not overload, it will work reliably. I’ve had an LTZ tractor for 11 years, I bought it almost new, there have been no serious breakdowns during this time.” Anton , Podolsk: “I accidentally bought an LTZ-60 tractor after a major overhaul. The cabin is spacious, excellent visibility, the window was made independently. I've had it for 7 years now and I've been using it to the fullest. I changed the clutch discs and will probably have to change them again soon. But overall I like it, it’s a responsive car.”
Let's sum it up
LTZ-60 is distinguished by good technological and operational indicators when performing various types of agricultural and other types of general purpose work. With constant and timely care, the tractor will last for many years without major repairs.

I'm a farmer myself. For me, there is nothing better than MTZ. Of the imports, only Jondiir or Kubota are superior, but the price and service.
"rutting can be changed, if it is fashionable to say ground clearance" ... track and ground clearance are different concepts
If everything is clear with the rutting (it changes relative to the axle axis by stretching/retracting), then does the ground clearance also change? (what does it look like structurally? Turn it around the axle axis, then what to do with the castor?
Change the ground clearance if you only install larger diameter wheels
Why is it so corny?)
I know that they change the track on tractors, I don’t remember that about the ground clearance, they don’t seem to change it
Features of use
Speaking about the versatility of the machine, the manufacturer states that the LTZ 60 does not require running-in. The tractor goes on sale completely ready for work, including with a hitch.
However, experienced tractor owners advise conducting a short test of all systems before starting work:
- Power supply.
- Checking the reliability and quality of the battery.
- The steering wheel should play no more than 25 degrees when the hydraulic pump is running.
- Ensure that the oil and fuel systems are tight and that any leaks are excluded.
- There should be a rubber mat in the tractor cab.
- The windshield wipers should work.
The maintenance procedure and schedule is carried out according to a standard scheme, which is described in detail in the operating instructions. Another feature of the tractor is its undemanding quality of lubricant mixtures and diesel fuel.
Regular maintenance will save the owner from premature breakdowns.
If you plan to preserve the tractor for a long period, then it is advisable to prepare it in advance. Namely, wash, clean, drain the fuel and lubricant, dry, wipe all parts with an oily rag and place in a dry place.
Cabin
The use of LTZ-60 is possible in different climatic zones due to the high level of cabin comfort, which is absolutely sealed and reliably protects the tractor from vibration and noise.
The driver's seat has a high level of comfort and is adjusted using a lever to suit the dimensions of the tractor driver. An autonomous heating system allows you to keep the cabin warm in winter. Ventilation is provided through the side vents.
Due to the large glass area of the cabin, the entire surrounding area is visible.
Malfunctions of the LTZ 60 model
Despite the fact that all series of tractors are distinguished by their quality and long service life, some breakdowns still occur. Owners pay attention to the fact that the clutch basket, taken from the T-40, has poor contact with the new engine, resulting in breakage of the studs and fastening elements in the clutch. Main faults:
- Overheating of the gearbox, which occurs due to unadjusted gear clearance or a small amount of lubricating fluid.
- The starter may not work due to broken contacts or low battery charge.
- Ineffective braking may be due to unadjusted pedal travel or due to worn brake discs or pads.
- There is no way to lift attachments. In this case, you need to check the oil level.
Device
The tractor is designed according to the classical scheme: the half-frame is based on a pneumatic-wheeled chassis, and the body serves as the basis for the installation of power equipment. A diesel engine is located in front, the task of which is to transmit torque to the rear axle through the transmission, and to the front axle through a transfer mechanism. A cabin and a device for mounting attachments are installed at the rear. The transmission and the engine are combined with each other and form a rigid frame of the tractor. The rear axle consists of the following segments: the final drive and driven gears, satellite, brake discs, PTO switching device, adjusting rod and pedals. The design of the LTZ 60 front axle includes such elements as wheel hubs, tie rod joints, balancers and swing arms.
