In 1958, the automobile plant in Yaroslavl (YaAZ) was transformed into a motor plant (YaMZ) for the serial production of diesel engines. This design solution made it possible to increase the diesel power, primarily due to an increase in the number of cylinders, from six (YaMZ 236) to ten (YaMZ 240).
This ability provided the power units with a variety of applications. In addition, the production process was simplified, which increased the number of motors produced. It was also important that broad unification facilitated the operation of various equipment with the specified motors and increased maintainability.
Engine YaMZ 238M2
The successful design of the YaMZ 238 diesel engine made it possible to carry out numerous upgrades in order to improve technical parameters and create various modifications to complete numerous variants of machinery and equipment. Currently, the plant continues to produce 22 modifications of the 238 engine, including those with the M2 index.
The YaMZ 238M2 engine replaced the model with the “M” index in the production line and has been produced since 1988. The diesel power unit is characterized by the following main features:
- a special device for the oil pan, which allows the operation of a diesel engine in conditions of increased roll and strong trim;
- fuel supply system, made in a separate version with direct injection;
