Capabilities of Caterpillar D6N bulldozers
Caterpillar D6N bulldozer equipment is used for leveling and cleaning areas, developing and moving bulk materials, and clearing clearings. The front blade of the bulldozer makes it possible to work with light and medium soils, move heavy objects over short distances and dig pits and trenches. The advantage of this bulldozer is its ability to differentially control turns.

DESCRIPTION AND PURPOSE
The Caterpillar D6N XL is one of the modifications of the popular Cat D6N series of mid-range bulldozers. The model is characterized by an extended chassis and a long service life. The design of the machine provides excellent performance regardless of operating conditions. The Caterpillar D6N XL combines excellent balance, ample power and structural strength to handle a wide range of applications, while AccuGrade, ATS and GPS systems ensure precision operations.
The model has proven itself well in mining and construction sites. Caterpillar D6N XL is used for clearing glades, leveling areas, developing and moving materials and soil of various categories, and clearing the area of stones, stumps and debris. A powerful blade allows you to work with medium and light soil and move large volumes of soil and materials over short distances. The geography of use of this model is quite wide - areas with temperature conditions from -40 to +40 degrees.

Working equipment and dimensions
The basic version of the Caterpillar D6 bulldozer is equipped with a standard dozer blade and ripper. The ripper has the design of a knife-like unit mounted in the rear of the machine on a powerful frame. Single and multi-shank rippers are available. Special plates with replaceable pointed tips made of hard steel alloy create a digging force of up to 8 tons. In this case, the loosening depth from a height of up to half a meter is 500 mm. The reverse excavation thrust reaches 18.5 tons. Powerful working bodies ensure crushing even rocks into small fractions.
Overall dimensions of the Caterpillar D6 bulldozer:
- length - 3860 mm;
- width with blade - 3360 mm;
- width without blade - 2640 mm;
- height - 3195 mm (up to the rollover protection structure);
- track - 2160 mm;
- ground clearance - 507 mm;
- dump capacity - 4.28 m3;
- operating weight - 16,605 kg.
Cat D6R works with the following ripper and dozer equipment:
- rotary blade, supplemented with hydraulic skewing;
- hemispherical rotary blade with hydraulic skew;
- fixed hemispherical blade;
- straight fixed blade;
- single-shank ripper;
- three-shank ripper;
- scoring knives (side and middle).
Advantages of Cat D6R special equipment:
- ability to work on wet and sticky soil;
- wide selection of attachments;
- high control accuracy;
- comfortable working conditions;
- versatility;
- power.
Advantages of the chassis
The American brand presented several Caterpillar D6N models with differences in the chassis. For example, an option with reduced support pressure (LGP) or extended (XL) is possible. Tubular track frames increase the durability of equipment due to resistance to damage.
The guide device is in direct contact with the track of the track chain, which allows the belt to stay firmly on the rollers. The guide wheels are designed so that they do not touch the link cheeks, which ensures smooth belt movement and increases service life. They are adjusted using a reverse spring in the track tension unit and a sealed hydraulic cylinder.
All Caterpillar modifications have the side part located high above the ground, which contributes to its better isolation from the ground and protection from shock loads. This SystemOneTM design is unique, developed by the Caterpillar brand and used only for equipment of this brand.
Engine device
Engine Caterpillar 3126B
The bulldozer is equipped with a Caterpillar 3126B engine with electronically controlled direct fuel injection. The special equipment is equipped with an electronic pre-heating system for forced air with automatic activation. There is also a turbocharger and intercooler of charge air (ATAAC system), perfectly matched to the engine and necessary to increase its power.
A V-belt made of innovative material and automatic belt tension made it possible to abandon the engine cooling scheme with 3–4 fan drive belts. And installing aluminum plates in the radiator increased heat transfer.
ENGINE
The Caterpillar D6N XL is powered by a proprietary Cat C6.6 ACERT diesel engine. The design of the unit includes a turbocharger, intercooling of charge air and an electronically controlled Common Rail direct injection system. Direct injection contributes to an increase in fuel supply at a reduced speed, which increases the throttle response of the unit. The ACERT technology used in the engine provides improved air supply and precise dosing of the volume of fuel injected into the cylinder.
The engine itself is compact in size and robust in design. It is equipped with a pre-heater to facilitate starting in the cold season. Another feature of the engine is electronic control, which optimizes fuel consumption and emissions of harmful substances. The engine complies with Stage IIIA environmental class.
Characteristics of the Cat C6.6 ACERT motor:
- engine volume – 6.6 l;
- power – 111.8 (152) kW;
- number of cylinders – 6;
- cylinder diameter – 110 mm.
There is no reduction in engine power when operating in areas with altitudes up to 3000 m above sea level.
Transmission Features
The design features include mechanisms such as Auto-Shift and Auto-Kickdown. The first one switches gears automatically, the second one switches in auto mode to a lower gear when the load increases.
The gearbox has three reverse and three forward gears, and power shift. A single-stage torque converter is responsible for preventing shock loads on the Caterpillar bulldozer transmission under difficult operating conditions.

Operator department
The cabin of the Caterpillar D6N bulldozer is comfortable and practical. It is equipped with:
Caterpillar D6N cab inside
- air conditioning system;
- soundproofing foam panels;
- sealed windows and doors;
- laser and satellite leveling systems AccuGrade.
To reduce noise, the cabin is additionally upholstered with sound-absorbing material. As a result, the noise level at the operator's position is 79 dB.
The hydraulic system makes it easier to control the bulldozer. The technical condition of the systems is monitored using the EMS III device, which informs the driver of the operating parameters of the main components.
The Caterpillar D6N bulldozer is a reliable and versatile machine. The special equipment is adapted to work in the Russian climate and can withstand temperature changes from 40 degrees below zero to 40 degrees above zero.
