John Deere 9500 combine harvester - fast and powerful American

According to statistics, half of the world's grain harvest is harvested using American John Deere combines. Domestic fields are no exception, where American technology with a galloping deer on the logo has taken root well. The unpretentious, simple and powerful wheeled model John Deere 9500 is one of our most common. After all, it is also the most affordable.

Modifications and features

The John Deere 9500 is offered in a single version with many extras and options.

The strengths of the combine:

  • reliable and simple power plant. Diesel, developed in America, has a long service life. It operates efficiently on Russian fuel and does not require regular maintenance;
  • significant performance. In terms of harvesting speed, the John Deere 9500 is the leader in its class. Compared to Russian analogues, the performance of this model is 2-3 times greater;
  • adaptation to harsh working conditions. A unique system with an on-board computer allows you to select optimal parameters taking into account external factors. In addition, the combine performs excellently on rough terrain;
  • high transport speed. special equipment is capable of accelerating up to 31 km/h, which allows covering short distances on public roads without the use of vehicles for transportation;
  • comfortable work area. A heater, an easy chair, a radio and air conditioning make the interior of the combine as suitable as possible for a long stay;
  • latest developments. The Countour Master system ensures the repetition of field unevenness and improves the quality of harvesting ears of any type, the AME system (analogue of an autopilot) automates the operator’s actions, minimizing the human factor, the Hillmaster system controls the movement of the machine, reducing the risk of overturning even on steep slopes;
  • ease of maintenance and availability of spare parts. Compared to European combines, the costs for the John Deere 9500 model will be significantly lower, and the waiting time for the necessary parts rarely exceeds 1-2 weeks.

Weaknesses of the combine:

  • assembly defects. The quality of the American versions of the John Deere 9500 is standard, but models assembled in Germany or Austria sometimes turn out to be defective;
  • high price. The cost of the combine is many times higher than the price tags of Russian-made analogues, which is its main disadvantage;
  • noise during the threshing process (the noise level of the machine is comparable to the Niva model). Operating at maximum power may cause some inconvenience to the operator.

Combine John Deere-9500

It all started with a small blacksmith shop in Illinois, built by the inventive John Deere in the mid-nineteenth century. First, he came up with a unique plow, then created a company, giving it his name. The first combines were produced in 1927, and ten years later the company became a world leader among manufacturers of agricultural machinery. Today, it still maintains its position, with production facilities in both Illinois and Germany (in the city of Zweibrücken).

The John Deere 9500 combine harvester model has a threshing system consisting of a drum and a beater with a separation grid.

Other features of the grain harvester: active straw walker with six long keys, finger-type cross agitator, grain pre-cleaning system. The company's own developments are used, such as terrain leveling and copying devices, an electronic control system with an Info Trak monitor, and a Quadra-Flo cleaning system.

The machine copes well with the entire harvesting process, cultivating fields with wheat, sunflower, corn or soybeans. The main purpose is grain harvesting. The combine cuts the ears cleanly, threshes them, and then cleans them, operating smoothly and quickly.

Advantages and disadvantages

Pros:

  • Powerful and durable diesel engines of our own brand, which, together with a large grain tank volume and long straw walker keys, provide good performance.
  • The machine perfectly adapts to the peculiarities of the domestic climate and terrain, surpassing many foreign analogues and being economically profitable in our fields.
  • The Contour Master system, which accurately follows the unevenness of the field, makes it possible to work even at night, as well as collect fallen ears.
  • For work on slopes, the unique Hillmaster leveling system is used, which prevents the equipment from overturning.
  • Comfortable conditions for the combine operator - a spacious cabin with a comfortable seat, a refrigerator and TechCenter air conditioning. Thanks to the central location of the cabin (in front of the engine and hopper), vibration and noise are almost not felt.
  • An electronic control system that allows you to accurately monitor the correct adherence to technology and, if necessary, respond quickly. It is possible to set the necessary parameters automatically using the AME system.
  • Spare parts for the unit are easy to obtain and are relatively inexpensive. We also note the high-quality service of the company.
  • The increased size of the drum and the area under it allow the use of soft threshing modes, due to which the grain and straw remain intact.
  • High speed of movement - it can exceed 30 kilometers per hour.

Minuses:

  • If compared with domestic combines, the price of the product is quite high. In this case, a considerable part of the funds will be spent at customs.
  • Instances collected in Germany are of lower quality than purely American ones (according to consumer reviews).
  • Due to its design features, the threshing machine is quite noisy (louder than the Don - about the same as the Niva).

Analogs

Only products from leading manufacturers of high-quality and durable business-class grain harvesting equipment can compete with the John Deere combine. In its power range, potential buyers are interested in the combine harvester line of branded models Claas Tucano and Lexion 670, Case 5130 and New Holland TR 88.

These machines and their versions are included in the list of highly rated grain harvesting equipment, therefore, despite the high cost, they are in approximately the same demand in all regions of Ukraine.

To control the loading of the sieves, it is possible to close the rear part of the rotor concave. The rotation speed of the rotors varies infinitely over wide ranges, adapting to specific cleaning conditions. At the rear of the rotors there are 4 blades that ensure an even flow of straw into the straw chopper.

Cleaning

Structurally, the cleaning system consists of transporting screws, a pre-cleaner, fine and coarse cleaning sieves, and rotary fans. Powerful, wear-resistant conveyor augers easily and evenly feed the material to the screen frame. The high efficiency of augers is especially noticeable when harvesting wet crops, as well as when working on slopes. The pre-cleaner removes 25% of the thrashings. About 1/3 of the grain after pre-cleaning goes directly into the clean grain auger, which reduces the volume of grain and threshings passing through the sieve mill. The laser system for monitoring the volume of unthreshed grain provides the transmission of accurate information that is necessary for the correct adjustment of the cleaning system components. The screen mill on the left and right edges is equipped with screens with elongated rods, thanks to which, with a transverse slope of up to 7 - 9 degrees, the accumulated multi-layer heap of threshing is returned for additional threshing, without increasing losses.

Grain bin

A full hopper with a capacity of 10,000 liters is unloaded in 2 minutes.
The hopper is equipped with a double-leaf lid that prevents moisture from entering. On a number of models it is possible to install a special extension that increases the useful volume of the grain bin. The hopper lid is opened from the control panel in the cabin. You can take a grain sample from the bunker directly from the cabin platform. The unloading auger is available in 2 versions: 5.20 m and 6.10 m, depending on the selected header width. When unloading on the go, it is possible to increase engine power by 34 hp, which allows simultaneous combining and threshing. Unloading grain is possible in any position of the unloading auger. Straw chopper
Straw can be either placed in windrows or chopped and distributed throughout the field.
The straw chopper is equipped with an integrated chaff spreader; in this case, the chaff is scattered with the general flow of chopped straw or thrown to the side. Straw is spread evenly over a width of up to 9.15 m, which is especially important with minimal and zero tillage technology. Three speed ranges of the straw chopper allow you to choose the optimal speed for working with grain crops, corn and other crops. For coarse chopping you can use regular or fixed knives, for fine chopping you can use serrated knives. Electrical adjustment of the reflector blades allows adjustments to be made directly from the cab, taking into account the strength and direction of the wind and the topography of the soil. Comfortable cabin
An automatic control system for air temperature in the cabin is included in the standard equipment of the combine. Excellent visibility of the working area - glazing area of 5.2 m2. The controls are conveniently arranged in a logical sequence. Four separate displays with control buttons are conveniently located on the right vertical pillar of the cab. Unlike many modern combines from other manufacturers, John Deere combines are easier to operate because they do not have complex hierarchical menu systems. Therefore, learning to operate John Deere combines takes less time, and combine operators use the full potential of the machines.

Headers and adapters

CTS series combines are equipped with rigid and floating auger and draper grain headers, corn adapters and roller pick-ups.
Engine and drives
Engine power 336 hp, plus additional power when unloading.
The 8.1 liter engine has an innovative fully electronic fuel injection system. The main drive is activated by a 4-disc friction clutch. Equipment / Additional equipment
Combines are equipped, depending on specific operating conditions and customer wishes, with different types of concave, straw choppers, kits for retrofitting the combine for corn harvesting and other types of equipment.
John Deere also offers a wide selection of tire sizes and brands, for example, Bridgestone/Firestone tires, the warranty period of which in the CIS is 4 years. The steep-slope modification of the combine is the Hillmaster II system. The system, consisting of pendulum wheel drive gears and 2 heavy-duty hydraulic cylinders, holds the combine in a horizontal plane with a lateral tilt of up to 15 degrees. Thus, in contrast to systems used by other manufacturers, the mass is leveled not only at the cleaning stage, but also at threshing and separation, which greatly increases the harvesting productivity and reduces total losses to an absolute minimum. Hillmaster II also allows you to fill the grain tank completely. Combined with the SlopeMaster system, which provides reliable cleaning on slopes up to 7 degrees, the Hillmaster II system allows the combine to work on slopes up to 22 degrees with the same quality as on level ground. Computer crop monitoring system – “Greenstar”. This system will provide you with current information about the yield of the crop being harvested and its moisture content. The system allows you to compile computer maps of field yields, which can then be used by subsequent trains of John Deere machines. John Deere's latest development is the AutoTruck system for combine harvesters, which automatically controls the movement of the combine across the field, parallel to previous passes. The system processes signals simultaneously from 21 satellites located in geostationary orbit of the Earth. Thus, unprecedented
precision of passes is ensured, and the maximum error is no more than 5 cm. You will be able to appreciate this additional option when working with a wide header, a gripper of, for example, 9 m, as well as on slopes and in the dark. Thanks to AutoTruck, the load on the operator is reduced and the productivity of the combine is increased. CTS series combines, starting from 2005, can be equipped with the HarvestSmart system, which automatically adjusts the operating speed of the combine based on a number of factors: combining conditions (humidity of grain mass, combining on slopes), volume of grain mass on the feeder conveyor and threshing drum, loading of the straw walker, the amount of losses behind the straw walker, load on the engine. HarvestSmart significantly increases the productivity of the combine, while simultaneously improving the quality of threshed grain. The sieve mill can be equipped with electromechanical adjustment of the sieve angle. In combination with a system for automatically adjusting the settings (for a range of crops) of the combine. The sieves are adjusted automatically, based on preset indicators for the specific crop being combined, on the fly. This allows you to reduce grain losses during cleaning, while simultaneously increasing the efficiency of working hours and the overall operating time of the combine. At the customer's request, combine harvesters are equipped with xenon work lights. Their luminous flux at a distance of 10 m is 1.5, and at a distance of 80 m - 2 times more intense than that of conventional halogen headlights.

Maintenance

The John Deere 9780 CTS combine does not have a single daily maintenance lubrication point. No unit is lubricated more than once every 50 operating hours. No other manufacturer has similar indicators

The John Deere 9500 combine is an excellent American-made agricultural equipment. This combine is a real workhorse with an optimal price/quality combination.

The John Deere 9500 is popular all over the world. Suffice it to say that in North America, over 40% of the combine harvester fleet is of this model. In addition, the John Deere 9500 combine is characterized by ease of operation, basic and fairly cheap maintenance and a large number of standardized spare parts, which can be purchased at all specialized centers.

Engine

The manufacturer installs diesel engines of its own brand on John Deere 9500 series combines. Models JD 6076T or JD 6076H are almost identical in characteristics and design, but have a different cooling system (liquid and air). The marking of engines clearly indicates their parameters (the first number is the number of cylinders, the rest are the working volume). In this case, the units have 6 cylinders with an in-line arrangement. Fuel is supplied directly (via an electric fuel pump). The units are again turbocharged. A distinctive feature is the Posi-Trock system, which automatically regulates the tension of the drive belt.

Most modifications of the John Deere 9500 are equipped with a JD 6076H motor. JD 6076T diesel engines are used in versions for countries with hot climates.

Characteristics of the JD 6076N unit:

  • working volume – 7.6 l;
  • rated power – 142 kW;
  • design rotation speed – 2200 rpm;
  • cylinder diameter – 115 mm.

The fuel tank capacity is 530 liters, which, when operating at medium power, allows you to go without refueling for up to 18 hours.

Operational Capabilities

Equipped with a powerful and economical diesel drive, the machine provides high-quality harvesting of grain, industrial and oilseed crops with a productivity of 8.9 tons per hour. Even in difficult conditions of combining low-growing and laid down grain crops, the loss of the final product is minimal.

Saving working time and high productivity of John Deere combines are realized by reducing the amount of inter-shift maintenance, efficient operation of on-board automation and computer equipment.

Design and operating features

The John Deere 9500 is built on a specialized 4 by 2 platform with an axle 2-section chassis design. The chassis allows the combine to work on any type of soil. The combine's transmission consists of a hydraulic motor, a hydrostatic pump powered by a diesel gearbox, final drives and a 3-speed gearbox (2 forward speeds, 1 reverse speed). The gearbox is represented by movable bushings mounted on the shaft and a differential. To select the direction of movement, a hydrostatic system is used, which is controlled by a lever (the farther it is located, the faster the special equipment moves). Off-road tires and wheels of several diameters are again available for the car.

The brake system includes brake pads, cylinders and a fluid reservoir. Braking is performed using the pedals. The mechanical parking brake is activated by a pedal located to the right of the steering wheel.

The hydraulic system of the John Deere 9500 has a complex design with several independent pumps used to support the operation of overhead devices, the main hydraulic system, straw spreading equipment and other mechanisms. The hydraulic system is responsible for the operation of the threshing drum, the reaping part, hanging adapters, unloading the grain mass from the bunker and moving the reel. An important part of the hydraulic system is 2 oil filters, which carry out coarse and fine cleaning of the oil.

The John Deere 9500 electrical system consists of 2 large batteries and a generator. The batteries operate in parallel, so the failure of one of them will not affect the functioning of the combine. The electrical system is responsible for the operation of the electronic clock, lighting (internal and external), instrument panel, air conditioning and emergency system.

Main working parts of John Deere 9500:

  • reaping part. The combine has its own grain header, JD 922, with a width of 6.7 m. The element has a mechanical drive, including an electromagnetic clutch located next to the auger. Operation of the reaping part is possible only when the separator is turned on. If the header switch is in the "on" mode, the combine engine will not start for safety reasons. The header is lowered and raised using a hydraulic lever. Under the bottom of the device there are 4 mechanical sensors that determine position, and the Contour Master function ensures accurate copying of the surface topography in the transverse and longitudinal direction. Adjustment of the feeder chamber in several positions allows you to use the capabilities of the equipment with maximum efficiency;
  • threshing and separation system. The combine is equipped with a threshing and separating device based on an axial rotor system. The technique uses a 6-key visor straw walker with keys 4500 mm long;
  • grain bin with quick unloading. The machine has a control system to monitor process parameters.

The John Deere 9500 has a large operator cabin. The equipment is controlled using a joystick, steering wheel and levers. The cabin has an on-board computer that displays information about the main parameters. A special program creates a yield map for planning the work of other machines. No other combine has similar functionality. The working area of the machine is characterized by increased comfort. Air conditioning, a soft seat with adjustments, large windows and many compartments allow the combine operator to work for a long time without fatigue.

Flaws

Even taking into account the costs of customs clearance and transportation, many potential buyers consider the cost of this model to be quite high. This is the main reason for the consistently high demand for used grain harvesting equipment.

Many owners note increased noise from the threshing unit. According to the designers, there is no cause for concern, since this phenomenon is a characteristic feature of the operation of single-drum threshing devices.

The prevailing opinion that German-assembled combines are of lower quality than those assembled in the USA can rightfully be considered subjective.

Keep up with the times

Like other world leaders in the supply of equipment to agriculture, (John Deere) is an international corporation. To keep up with competitors, the company’s specialists try to annually improve the technical parameters that characterize the grain harvester (John Deere):

  • grip length of headers and threshing devices;
  • separation authorities;
  • engine power;
  • electronics, hydraulic drives and hydraulic transmissions are successfully used.

All this is perfectly positioned by the John Deere combine, the technical characteristics of which are represented, in particular, by the expanded use of hydraulic drive of the drive wheels based on a stepless change in translational speed. Thus, the optimal speed mode is selected and throughput is used rationally.

All combines of this brand are distinguished by the central location of the cabin, which reduces noise (up to 76 dB) and vibration.

In addition to two shaker boards, the 2200 series machines have a third sieve, which is blown by a fan.

A few words about the manufacturer
