To cultivate large volumes of agricultural land, high-power tractors are used. One of them is the domestic tractor K 744. One such tractor cultivates up to 5,000 hectares of land in one season. The machine is used not only in agriculture, but also in other fields of activity. Using the K 744 tractor, you can clear snow from coverings, tow heavy loads, etc.
History of creation
The Kirovets K 744 tractor has been produced at the St. Petersburg Tractor Plant since 1995. Russian and German designers were jointly involved in the development of the machines, and the first models were manufactured exclusively for export. In 2000, the St. Petersburg Tractor Plant began mass production of K 744P machines intended for the domestic market and for sale to allied countries.
Since 2002, the Kirovets K 744 tractor has replaced previous models such as K 701, K700, K703. 2014 was the year of complete modernization of the Kirovets K 744 tractor. Several modifications of this machine are produced at the St. Petersburg Tractor Plant. Starting from 2016, the models are equipped with an automated gearbox of our own production.

The Bosch-Rexroth hydraulic distributor is controlled by a cable drive from the cab. The output units of the gas distribution unit are routed to the rear semi-frame and are equipped with quick connection breaking devices.
Unit movement control
The steering wheel acts on the DANFOSS hydraulic steering system with a separate pump unit. The steering column is adjustable in angle and height.
The Wabco pneumatically controlled brake system has three circuits: two act on the brake drum pads of the tractor wheels, one on the towed vehicle.

- K 744R2 – TMZ (350 hp), or Mercedes (350 hp);
- K 744R3 – TMZ (390 hp), or Mercedes (401 hp);

K-744R2: technical characteristics
In the first modification “Standard”, the K-744R2 tractor is equipped with a V-shaped 8-cylinder turbocharged engine TMZ-8481.10 from the Tutaevsky Motor Plant, with a displacement of 17.24 liters and a power of 350 horsepower. In the second “Premium” modification, K-744R2 tractors are equipped with 6-cylinder Mercedes OM460LA E3A/5 , which are used on many heavy trucks in the world. Cabin and steering
To reduce operator fatigue during long-term work, the K 744R tractor is equipped with a comfortable cabin. It is located at a high height, which gives the operator a large viewing angle. Good tightness protects the interior from dust during operation. The air temperature in the tractor interior is regulated using air conditioning and autonomous heating. This makes it possible to use the tractor in any climatic conditions. The cabin design includes specialized protection that minimizes the risk of death of the tractor driver when the machine rolls over.
The cabin has two seats for the tractor driver and the passenger. For convenience, the operator's seat is height adjustable. The machine control levers are located in close proximity to the seat. This creates comfort for the operator while operating a multi-ton machine.

Brake system

Cabin of tractor K-744
On St. Petersburg energy-rich tractors, a two-seater cabin is installed, with a built-in safety cage, with improved thermal, vibration and noise insulation; equipped as standard with powerful air conditioning and heating systems.
Instead of a flat composite windshield, the K-744R is equipped with a one-piece panoramic glass. Radial roundings on the sides of this glass provide a wide field of view from the operator’s workplace. The rear window also has radius sides, and the side pillars do not limit the view at all. The side glass and cabin door in the K-744R cabin have become virtually completely transparent, equipped with convenient windows for ventilation. However, the increased area of the cabin glazing is combined with an increase in the strength structure of its frame - by 20%, compared to the previous K-744, from the fourth generation of Kirov aircraft.
The interior of the cabin of the main PTZ model has been significantly transformed. A completely new steering column changed the perception of space and significantly improved ergonomics in terms of ease of operating the tractor and monitoring its parameters.
Modifications
K744 is produced by the manufacturer in 4 versions. Each differs in the power of the power unit. Each of the modifications will be briefly described below.
K744R
The model is equipped with a diesel unit with a capacity of 306 horsepower. The number of revolutions of the crankshaft is 2000 rpm. The front axle of the car is mounted on springs.
K744R2
The Kirovets K744R2 tractor is equipped with a German-made power plant. The design of the K744R2 tractor gearboxes is planetary type. This makes it possible to significantly increase the traction characteristics of the machine.
K744R3
Has technical characteristics identical to the previous model. The manufacturer replaced only the power plant with a more powerful one.
K744R4
The K744R4 tractor, the technical characteristics of which have been improved compared to previous modifications, completes the model range. The K744R4 tractor is equipped with a 420 horsepower engine.

K-744R3: technical characteristics
In the first modification “Standard”, the K-744R3 tractor is equipped with a V-shaped 8-cylinder turbocharged engine TMZ-8481.10-02 from the Tutaevsky Motor Plant, with a displacement of 17.24 liters and a power of 390 horsepower. The rated speed is 1900 rpm. Maximum torque – 1864N.m. Rotation speed at maximum torque – 1300…1500 rpm.
Mercedes OM460LA E3A/4
In the second “Premium” modification, K-744R3 tractors are equipped with 6-cylinder Mercedes OM460LA E3A/4 12.8-liter power units, boosted to 401 hp. The rated speed is 1800 rpm. Maximum torque – 1900 N.m. Rotation speed at maximum torque is 1300 rpm. Specific fuel consumption – 151 g/hp.h (205 g/kWh).
The operating weight of the K-744R3 tractor with a TMZ engine is 16.63 tons; with a Mercedes engine - 16.165 tons. The wheels are also equipped with larger tires of size 800/65 R32.

Reviews from owners and people who worked on this machine are extremely positive. The power of the power unit is sufficient to operate any attachment. The engine starts easily in any weather conditions and has a long service life.
Spare parts are freely available. This eliminates long-term downtime of equipment while searching for the necessary components. The main part of possible malfunctions are minor breakdowns that can be easily repaired in the field. The price of domestic spare parts is more affordable than their foreign counterparts.
From the above it follows that the Kirovets K744 tractor is a multifunctional machine of traction class 5 - 8. Thanks to its attractive price, it is affordable in comparison with foreign analogues, and is not inferior to them in technical indicators.
