Expert for experts: test drive the 2022 Peugeot Expert

Peugeot Expert II (alternative names: Expert Mk2, or Peugeot Expert 2, second generation) was produced from November 2006 to March 2016 in France in a consortium with the FIAT Group at the PSA Peugeot Citroen SEVEL Nord plant in Valenciennes. In addition to the Peugeot Expert II, its “triplets” of the same project were also produced here:

  • Citroen Jumpy II (sold as Dispatch in the UK);
  • FIAT Scudo II (minivan: Scudo Panorama);
  • Toyota ProAce (minivan: ProAce Verso).

Moreover, Toyota joined the PSA and FIAT consortium after the Peugeot Expert 2 proved its advantages and excellence over its competitors, and the model was updated. Therefore, Toyota ProAce began production at SEVEL Nord in the summer of 2013.

Model history

Peugeot Expert II and its “brothers” are holders of the prestigious title “Best Van of the Year 2008” (“International Van of the Year 2008”). At the same time, they won the competition with a record advantage of 40% of the votes over all other competitors combined.

All “twins” differed from each other only in fragments and emblems specific to a particular brand.

Changes during restyling 2011

  • a more streamlined, redesigned grille;
  • headlights with more powerful optics;
  • a “grippy” steering wheel with a “plump” comfortable “donut” and a new design airbag housing;
  • optional multimedia systems with navigation and Internet access.

If the first generation Peugeot Expert had commercial and passenger options clearly separated from the Peugeot 806 platform minivan, then the second generation Expert combined them together.

The range of options has become so

  • Expert FT (Fourgon Tole) - all-metal van;
  • Expert ChC (Chassis Cabine) - chassis with cab for installing bodies from third-party manufacturers;
  • Expert Combi - 6-seater cargo-passenger van;
  • Expert Minibus - 8-9-seater minibus;
  • Expert Tepee is a comfortable 8-seater minivan.

Design

Peugeot Expert II all-metal vans and minibuses provided the following options for choosing body dimensions:

Two wheelbase lengths “standard” L1 3000 mm (overall length 4805 mm); “long” L2 3122 mm (overall vehicle length 5135 mm).

Two roof heights “standard” H1, cabin/load compartment height 1449 mm (vehicle overall height 1942 mm); “high” H2 (only for L2), interior/load compartment height 1750 mm (vehicle overall height 2276 mm).

The Expert Tepee minivan was only offered with a "standard" roof height and two wheelbase sizes.

The capacity of the cargo compartment varied from 5 to 7 m3, and the carrying capacity - from 1000 to 1200 kg.

Exterior

The body of the Peugeot Expert II, according to the tradition established at PSA since the 70s of the twentieth century, is completely galvanized on both sides, and in addition has powerful anti-corrosion protection with mastics and other special coatings.

If the Peugeot Expert of the first generation had a trapezoidal sectional shape of the cargo compartment/passenger compartment, borrowed from the Peugeot 806 minivan, then with the Expert II this section became rectangular - ideal for placing and conveniently transporting cargo in boxes or on pallets. Now the comfortable Expert Tepee minibus has borrowed the interior shape of the van, and the owners liked it.

For both cargo and passenger versions, both hinged and single liftgates were available. At the same time, hinged ones were basic for cargo and budget passenger modifications. For them, the left sliding side door was offered as an option, and the front passenger seat was a two-seater sofa without adjustments. A lifting door was offered by default for top-end passenger trim levels, standardly equipped with two sliding interior doors and an individual front passenger seat with a set of adjustments identical to the driver’s. Looking ahead, we’ll say that in the third generation, cargo versions can only have hinged rear doors, and passenger versions can only have lifting doors.

Cargo and budget passenger versions of the 2nd generation had 2-section rear-view mirrors as standard. The lower sector was intended to facilitate reversing. Optionally when ordering and as standard in rich passenger trim levels, which initially included rear parking sensors, cars were equipped with single-section mirrors with large aspherical mirror elements.

The cargo compartments of the “second Expert” vans were replete with rigging devices (anchor rings, hinges, fairleads, etc.) to firmly secure the cargo. There are several options for finishing the floor and sides of the cargo compartment with rubberized plastic, hardboard, waterproof or laminated plywood of various thicknesses and structures.

All cars were standardly equipped with Webasto engine heaters, which was very important for the Russian market and gave another advantage over competitors, whose heaters were additional equipment and offered at an additional cost.

Driver comfort and safety were ensured by ESP and a full set of brake electronics, full power accessories, which could be supplemented with a rain sensor, light sensor and other comfort systems. Even against the backdrop of existing wealth, Expert Tepee minivans stood out - in the Premium configuration, their doors had a “smart” electric drive for remote opening/closing, electrically adjustable driver’s seat with memory and other luxury equipment options.

Interior

The interior of the Peugeot Expert Tepee has become noticeably larger and much more spacious than that of previous passenger Experts and the 806 minivan. Now it was possible to move freely from the first row of seats to the 2nd and 3rd, as well as vice versa. What about comfort? Peugeot are traditional masters in this matter, and their skills are on full display in the Expert Tepee.

Upholstery of the seats with a combined fabric was the province of only the most budget level of the Comfort package. All the others, especially the luxurious Premium, sported soft velor trim on the seats and sides of the cabin, filling it with home comfort. “An endangered species” - at that time, velor was used in interior decoration very rarely, even among Americans who valued prestige. And here - please! However, since all modifications of this car, according to the manufacturer’s internal classification, belonged to the class of commercial vehicles, even the richest configuration options had a front panel made exclusively of hard plastic.

The windshield had a very high angle and the front panel extended far forward, which created a feeling of additional space and safety.

The seats of the 2nd and 3rd rows could be folded, swapped, rearranged and adjusted in length.

The third row could be ordered

  • in the form of a single 3-seater sofa;
  • in the form of 2 separate chairs with individual adjustments;
  • in the form of 3 separate chairs with individual adjustments.

Peugeot Expert Profi Transformer: between a van and a bus

Today it is the transportation of passengers, and tomorrow it is the delivery of cargo: small and medium-sized businesses often have to solve such diverse transport problems. And it is for such cases that Peugeot in Russia offers a transforming van based on the Expert model. To test out a car with a variable interior configuration, we went to the Yaroslavl region

Mikhail Ozherelev
Peugeot Expert Profi Transformer. Gross weight: 2880 kg. Start of sales: 2013 Price: RUB 1,614,000

Welcome aboard! There are enough places. There are three comfortable seats in the passenger compartment of the Peugeot Expert van, and two more people can comfortably fit in the cabin next to the driver. Starting from the center of Moscow, we go to the Yaroslavl region with the task of assessing the functionality and mobility of the “Profi Transformer” based on the Peugeot Expert VU. The final point of the route - the El Rancho agrotourism complex - was not chosen by chance. Rural tourism in Russia is gaining momentum: farms have begun to appear in the country that not only produce food, but also actively work with tourists, inviting hardcore city dwellers to take a closer look at subsistence farming. It is not surprising that for a farmer entering this business, choosing the right vehicle is very important.

DIVE INTO BUSINESS

Peugeot is making a serious bet on commercial vehicles. And this is not surprising. The parent concern PSA Peugeot Citroen is Europe's largest manufacturer of light commercial vehicles (18.8% of the market). The company considers the Russian market a priority: in our country, the share of commercial vehicle (LCV) sales in total PSA sales by country last year was 24%.

Under the Peugeot brand, a wide range of LCVs based on the Peugeot Boxer, Expert and Partner are presented on the Russian market. In terms of ranking, the Expert is an intermediate option between the larger Boxer and the Partner heel. Let us remind you that the second generation “Expert” is currently on sale in Russia; it is presented in cargo and passenger versions. The cargo version is offered in three body versions: L1H1 - standard wheelbase (3000 mm), low roof; L2H1 - increased wheelbase (3122 mm), increased rear overhang and low roof; and finally, L2H2 - increased wheelbase, rear overhang and high roof. The external dimensions of the machine can vary from 4806 to 5136 mm in length and from 1955 to 2266 mm in height. Depending on the dimensions, the useful volume can range from 5 to 7 m3. The range of Peugeot Expert engines for the Russian market consists of two HDi diesel engines: the first, with a volume of 1.6 liters (90 hp), is coupled with a 5-speed manual gearbox, and the second has a volume of 2.0 liters (120 hp). .) and works in conjunction with a 6-speed gearbox.

The sofa bench can be secured in a vertical position if additional cargo space is needed

In Russia, commercial vehicles for various purposes are manufactured on the Peugeot Expert chassis. The most popular versions on the market are the refrigerated truck and cargo-passenger van versions. The copy that will be discussed today was released in partnership with the Ulyanovsk bodybuilder Avtodom LLC based on the Expert L2H1 with a 90-horsepower engine.

The partition is equipped with an elastic sealing valve around the perimeter

Externally, the cargo-passenger Expert looks exactly how a workhorse in a big city should look: not too flashy and at the same time not dull design. The wide front bumper, huge headlights, radiator grille with silver edging and small hood look quite balanced and pleasing to the eye.

Unlike the basic version of the van, the Pro Transformer has two side windows - in the sliding door and opposite. Door window with window. The walls and ceiling are finished with molded plastic, and the floor has an anti-slip coating. The gray atmosphere inside gives off business notes, but there is no obvious cheapness. All details are clearly adjusted to each other.

At the driver’s workplace, all controls are optimally arranged

We look around the driver's workplace. There are so many niches for travel luggage! A camera fits into the door pocket, a phone neatly fits into a rectangular stamping on the panel, and above the glove box there is such a large recess that it can fit, for example, a paper atlas of roads in Russia and Europe. The driver's seat is adjustable in three directions; the flat back creates some inconvenience, especially on a long journey. But a definite plus is the steering column, which can be adjusted in two directions. At least you can sit with it in a more or less comfortable position. All controls, including the gearshift lever located on the center console, are at hand; there is no need to reach anywhere. But the parking brake lever is located unusually - on the left side; By the way, the same solution is used on the Peugeot Boxer. The plastic finishing on the front panel may be inexpensive and hard, but it is of quite high quality and pleasant to the touch.

When driving, the Peugeot Expert handles like a car. The modest dimensions of the machine play an important role in this. In terms of sound insulation, the car is also good. And it’s also worth noting the excellent visibility - the result of the increased glass area in the cabin. The similarity in many respects to a passenger car can simplify the solution to personnel issues - it is easier to find a driver for such a car. At least, a person driving a personal car can quickly adapt while driving an Expert.

A three-seater sofa is secured in the van on a sliding partition

Most carriers know that recently the city authorities have become more zealous than ever in exposing those who enter the city center in light vans, and documented in trucks. Sanctions apply to vehicles with a carrying capacity of 1 ton and above. Our “Expert” is capable of taking on board 873 kg. There is a shortage, which means he can go to the city center.

As for the dynamic properties, the 90-horsepower engine is still rather weak for intensive acceleration (for example, when overtaking). But for measured driving in the city, this solution is just right. In general, the car looks quite decent and meets all the functions assigned to it.

FINANCING AGREEMENT

However, it is worth making a reservation. In the case of a commercial vehicle, the car, as a rule, is not chosen by the person driving it. For a business owner, the cost of ownership (including fuel consumption and maintenance intervals) and favorable financing conditions are critical.

The sofa seats are equipped with stylish headrests

The strength of Peugeot's offer is purchase financing through products developed jointly with PSA Bank. For example, within the PSA Finance loan program from Peugeot Finance, business owners can choose a loan depending on their needs: with a minimum down payment (from 15%), with a minimum monthly payment (about 10,000 rubles) or a loan with a minimum overpayment. In the fall of 2016, the PSA group opened a captive leasing company PSA Finance. Its main task is to support corporate sales of new Peugeot cars. Currently the company offers financial leasing for legal entities. As for private buyers, individuals will be able to use the services of PSA Finance as early as 2022. The company also plans to launch operational leasing, leasing with the possibility of buyback, additional services and fleet management services.

UPDATE COMING

In 2016, sales of the new generation Peugeot Expert started in Europe. The car, built on the EMP2 modular platform, is externally and internally different from its predecessor. The new product received such modern solutions as an automatic sliding door with hands-free sensors, an Active Safety Brake automatic braking system, a rear view camera with the VisioPack option, as well as network 3D navigation. The car is offered in three lengths - from 4.6 (Compact version) to 5.3 m. The height of 1.9 m facilitates comfortable use of the Peugeot Expert in urban environments. As for Russia, the appearance of a new generation model is expected in our country, but configurations and the start date of sales will be announced later, the company reports.

  • 2.0 VVT 143 hp (EW10A) + 4 automatic transmission

The Peugeot Expert II engine and transmission range had an emphasis on the great variability of the wonderful 2.0-liter diesel engines of the DW family, famous for their reliability, and their combination with a 6-speed manual transmission and the world's best 6-speed front-wheel drive “automatic” AM6 from the famous Japanese Aisin AW.

The option with a gasoline 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine and 4-speed automatic transmission AL4 was in very limited demand, mainly among services for transporting people with limited mobility and among wheelchair drivers, and by 2011 this option was discontinued.

Suspension and ride quality

Peugeot Expert 2 was equipped with a front fully independent McPherson-type suspension with anti-roll bar. Its rear suspension is an improved design that worked well on the first generation: a semi-independent torsional “H-shaped” beam, into which a torsion bar was integrated - an anti-roll bar, which began to work in tandem with a Panhard rod.

New: in addition to the usual “spring” design of the “second Expert” suspension, it became possible to order an air suspension with inflation, which instead of springs had air cylinders, and the design was supplemented with an air pump. It is now possible to adjust the vehicle's ground clearance and suspension stiffness depending on the weight of the cargo being transported and the quality of the road surface.

PSA Peugeot Citroen in France has a partner company, Dangel, which converts many front-wheel drive Peugeot, Citroen and FIAT models into 4x4 all-wheel drive up to the “professional” level. Peugeot Expert II also received four off-road options from Dangel, ranging from simply equipped with a limited slip differential and increased ground clearance, up to “Profi” with cross-axle differential locks and “lowering” in the transmission.

In terms of handling and comfort, the commercial, passenger versions, and minivan were as close as possible to passenger cars - just as accurate, comfortable and aerobatic. The Expert II's suspension stiffness was given a non-linear characteristic, making even a fully loaded van ride just as smoothly over rough roads as an empty one.

Ground clearance of 18 cm is very impressive, but visually it always seemed that it was lower. Not at all. The Expert Tepee could be used quite confidently over rough terrain, where even other crossovers were afraid to tread. And this one behaved well.

Expert for experts: test drive the 2022 Peugeot Expert

The new Peugeot Expert is a roomy and practical van that not only offers large cargo space and functionality, but also demonstrates excellent manoeuvrability.

The 2017–2018 model year car is created on the EMP2 modular platform and is intended for use in the field of light commercial vehicles. Such a car will be useful for a cargo taxi service, a building materials store, a chain of coffee shops and in other areas of business. The first generation of Expert was released in 1995, the second in 2007. The third generation of vans has been produced since 2016.

One of the advantages of the van is its total weight: it is 2495 kg, which means the van can easily drive into the center of Moscow. This is especially important for business owners whose facilities are located in the center of the capital.

The appearance of the Peugeot Expert fully corresponds to the corporate style of the French brand. Strict body lines and many chrome elements make the exterior of the car modern and stylish. The brutality and solidity of the model is emphasized by a massive bumper, a textured radiator grille and LED optics with complex geometry. The appearance of the “muzzle” is moderately “evil”, in case you suddenly decide to “press someone on the highway.

It feels like the car can start moving either from first or third gear, the main thing is to smoothly release the clutch and apply the gas. All 370 Nm of torque are available from 2000 rpm. So the car accelerates quite quickly and responds adequately to smooth movements of the accelerator. And it’s easier to get closer to the promised fuel consumption.

The test Peugeot Expert had a 1.6-liter 90-horsepower engine with a 6-speed manual transmission. The maximum speed of the van reaches 185 km/h, and the car accelerates to 100 km/h in 9.5–15.3. When driving in mixed mode, the van consumes about 7 liters per 100 km.

While driving, as in parking lots, at high speed, you get good information content and precision control. Moreover, I have a good sense of the solidity and dimensions of the minivan. Compared to some competitors with their electromechanical control systems, the Peugeot Expert steering wheel with electro-hydraulic power steering is heavier.

The main thing is that the road is good - an unloaded van bounces over speed bumps so that you can get a concussion. Because on bumps and potholes the steering wheel twitches noticeably in your hands. This is especially noticeable in corners. Otherwise, the van stands very confidently on the trajectory and deals with defects. In a loaded state, behavior changes dramatically. The independent suspension has a high energy intensity, works efficiently and quietly. You can only hear the creaking of eco-leather rubbing against the partition.

The seating position for the driver does not provide for a long shoulder of the stretch; the back quickly gets tired in the almost vertical position of the seat back. Nothing can be done, adjust it, recline the back, the partition is in the way.

True, the car has cruise control, controlled from a separate remote control located on the left of the steering column.

The basic version of the car will delight you with a full range of passive and active safety systems - an airbag is provided for both the driver and the passenger. The ABS anti-lock braking system is equipped with the AFU brake force distribution function. It will help the driver during emergency braking in difficult road conditions.

The ESC dynamic stabilization system with ASR traction control controls how the steering wheel position corresponds to the actual trajectory of the car. When, during a skid, the direction of movement suddenly no longer corresponds to the position of the steering wheel, the system intervenes in the steering and helps the driver avoid an accident.

The vehicle is equipped with a right side sliding door, thanks to which the van is unloaded quickly and with maximum comfort. The loading height of the car is only 544 mm. A side door is indispensable when there is a lack of space - for example, in a warehouse. The rear doors open as standard - 90°, but they can also be opened 180°.

In the partition, under the passenger seat, there is a window that allows you to monitor the status of the cargo during the journey. In addition, the partition provides high-quality noise insulation, which reduces the load on the driver - this is especially important during long trips.

The loading area floor has anti-slip aluminum thresholds. Special fastenings are provided to secure loads.

TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE MODEL The car is available in three versions.

The length of the L1H1 van is 4609 mm, L2H1 – 4959 mm, L3H1 – 5390 mm.

The width of the model is 1920 mm, the height is 1892, 1881 and 1877 mm, respectively.

The wheelbase of the car is 2925 mm (L1H1) or 3275 mm (L2H1 and L3H1). The car feels confident on any surface, and next to the driver there is enough space for two passengers.

The useful volume of the car is 4.6 m3 (L1H1), 5.3 m3 (L2H1) or 6.1 m3 (L3H1).

So what are the benefits of PSA's new commercial vehicle?

To start the engine, it is not enough just to turn the ignition key - you also have to depress the clutch. This reduces the load on the engine in winter - it starts faster and easier. All van controls are at hand, and control instruments are located at a level convenient for the eyes. Thanks to the hydraulic booster, the steering wheel obediently responds to the driver’s movements. The car is responsive when cornering.

The car looks stylish and modern on the outside, while remaining functional and practical on the inside. A spacious cargo compartment, the ability to transport long items, the ability of the partition to be transformed - the Peugeot Expert van will become a reliable partner in the development of your business.

The length of the loading space reaches 2862 mm, and thanks to the presence of a hatch in the partition, it increases by 116 mm. You can easily transport long items up to 4 m. Ground clearance has been increased to 175 mm. This allows you to feel comfortable both in the city and outside it.

The car looks stylish and modern from the outside, while remaining functional and practical inside. A spacious cargo compartment, the ability to transport long items, and the ability of the partition to transform are excellent qualities for a city carrier.

Typical problems and malfunctions

The spare wheel of the Expert II, like the first generation, is mounted under the trunk floor on a winch. It is advisable to clean the mechanism annually and lubricate it with a lubricant like LITOL or similar, and be sure to tension the cable during winding so that it fits into the required “streams” of the reel. Otherwise, the cable may get tangled inside the winch body and the next time you try to use the mechanism, it will simply jam. This is true for all cars of all brands equipped with a similar device.

To prevent water from getting onto the engine through the ventilation slits on the hood, a special “bathtub” with drainage pipes was installed above the engine underneath them. Because of this, on cars with 1.6 liter turbo diesel engines, access to the oil filler neck was blocked. But the manufacturer solved this problem by including a special Z-shaped funnel in the car package.
