On a car with a YaMZ-238 engine, the glow of the warning light when the engine is warmed up to normal temperature indicates contamination and increased resistance of the oil pre-filter element, the opening of the bypass valve and the supply of unfiltered oil to the lubrication system, which is unacceptable. The indicator light is allowed when starting the engine with cold oil and when warming up. Engine break-in occurs during the first 50 hours of operation. During this period, it is recommended to avoid full loads and high engine speeds. During the break-in period, the parts of the cylinder-piston group, gears, bearings and other parts are uniformly worn in in order to reduce their subsequent wear, and oil consumption is stabilized. Overloading during this period will negatively affect the break-in of parts and lead to a reduction in engine service life. When operating the YaMZ-238 engine during the break-in period, it is allowed to release a mixture of fuel and oil through the exhaust system, the formation of oil stains in places of oil seals that do not affect oil consumption, in the connections of fuel supply, lubrication and cooling systems, the release of individual drops of coolant or a mixture of it with lubrication through the drainage of the water pump, the formation of individual drops of oil and the release of condensate through the breather, without interfering with the normal operation of the engine.

MAZ-516
— three-axle large-tonnage truck. A distinctive feature of the machine was the “floating” third axle, which could be lowered and raised depending on the load. This made it possible to increase the vehicle's carrying capacity without exceeding the permissible loads on the road surface, and when driving empty with a raised axle, to increase maneuverability and reduce fuel consumption. MAZ-516 became the first Soviet truck with such a system.
The first batch of cars was produced in 1969. The design of the MAZ-516 is largely based on the MAZ-500, and after the plant switched to producing the modernized MAZ-500A, the three-axle vehicle was similarly improved, receiving the new index MAZ-516A. Its production began in 1973 and continued until 1981.
There was a modification of the MAZ-514, which was distinguished by the absence of a suspended 3rd axle (6x4 wheel arrangement); on its basis, in turn, the MAZ-515 truck tractor was created.
