The GAZ-66 truck can be called an ideal truck for Russian roads, or, more precisely, for Russian off-road conditions. The design features of this model made it popular and widely used. Therefore, its improvement taking into account the requirements of the time was a natural process: all-terrain vehicles based on the GAZ-66 appeared, called “Vepr”. They combine the best qualities of their predecessor with new advanced technologies of our time.

GAZ "Vepr" was specially designed and developed for use in rather difficult climatic conditions, which are very typical for both the Russian Federation and other CIS countries. GAZ "Vepr" cars are essentially a slightly shortened version of the GAZ-33081, equipped with a modular body made of solid high-strength alloy metal. “Vepr” is absolutely unified and aggregated with vehicles of the “Sadko” type and optimally combines all the best qualities of both an SUV and a fairly comfortable minibus.
GAZ "Vepr", the photo of which is given below, is equipped with wide-profile tires, the size of which is 12.00R18. In addition, there are aluminum inserts at the top of the rear bumper, on the side sills and areas between the fenders and the front bumper. It is these protrusions that allow you to stand on them and carry out engine maintenance.
The rear bumper is box-shaped and has built-in powerful lights. It is deliberately made of two components in order to make it as easy as possible to access the towbar, which, in turn, is fixed to the frame.
"Vepr" has a mechanically driven winch, which has a tractive effort of 4.5 tons. The cable is 50 meters long. The lifting unit is installed in a specially designed compartment located on the front bumper. The designers have provided for the possibility of installing an electric winch. Also on the front bumper there is a so-called kenguryatnik, which, in addition to providing protection for the headlights, additionally gives the car solidity and impressiveness.
There are two hatches in the roof of the vehicle, which provide not only additional ventilation, but also, if necessary, the ability to fire while standing from the passenger compartment. Hatches can also be used as an emergency exit in unusual situations.
GAZ-33081 Vepr

The car is created on the basis of standardized components and assemblies of existing production, this allows for operation, maintenance, supply of spare parts and repairs at the lowest cost. A shortened wheelbase, all-wheel drive and an all-metal body, together with the preserved advantages of the Sadko series vehicles, allow the GAZ-33081 to be used as a modern, multifunctional SUV, used for work purposes in hard-to-reach places, as well as used for hunting, fishing or for tourist purposes for a comfortable holiday in nature.
“Vepr” is made on the basis of “Sadko” with an all-metal, two- or four-door body, it retains all the advantages of the “Sadko” car (dynamics, maneuverability, cabin comfort), from which it inherited drive axles with cam limited-slip differentials, a five-speed a synchronized gearbox with direct and reduction gears, a transfer case, a tire pressure regulation system, radial tires of size 12.00R18, a mechanically driven winch with a traction force of 4.5 tons and a cable length of 50 m. Dynamics and cross-country ability are achieved by installing a diesel engine MMZ D-245.7E2 (117 hp), which also provide high efficiency - about 18 l/100 km. The car is initially equipped with two tanks. “Vepr” is ready for operation in the most severe conditions, including the Far North, hot deserts and mountainous areas, because it is capable of overcoming passes of 4650 m above sea level, and the ambient temperature regime for the vehicle is defined from -40 to +40°C .
The Vepr combines high off-road qualities (it fords up to 1 meter, climbs slopes up to 31 degrees) with the characteristics of a comfortable minibus: up to 10 passengers, the presence of an autonomous heater, comfortable seats and decent speed on the highway (up to 100 km/h).
The Vepr can tow a trailer with a total weight of up to 2 tons.
The car is available with 3 or 5 doors, passenger and cargo-passenger versions; in the passenger version, the number of seats, including the driver, is 12 people. In the cargo-passenger version there are 5 people and 1.5 tons of cargo. The microclimate in the cabin and interior of the Vepr is achieved by installing a main cabin heater, an autonomous heater under the front seat and an additional one in the cabin. The installation of two hatches in the roof of the cabin allows for additional ventilation of the interior and body. Hatches can also be used for firing or as emergency exits.
