Model SN24

The most popular semi-trailer model from the manufacturer in question is the Kogel SN24, since its operating and technical parameters are the most outstanding in comparison with analogues from other manufacturers.

This modification has the following performance characteristics:

  • maximum permissible load on the fifth wheel mechanism – 12 t;
  • technically permissible load on the fifth wheel mechanism is 12 tons;
  • maximum permissible load on the axle unit – 24 t (7.5 t on each axle);
  • the maximum technically possible load on the axle unit is 27 tons (9 tons on each axle).

The other mass parameters of the semi-trailer are also large:

  • total weight of the semi-trailer (with cargo) – 35 tons;
  • technically possible total weight (with cargo) – 36 tons;
  • unloaded weight (net) – 6.3 t (basic configuration).

The equipment in question is capable of withstanding a fairly large load.

Thus, Kogel can easily transport more than 10 tons of cargo at a time, which makes it possible to transport large volumes in a short period of time.

You can find out why dismantling of Schmitz semi-trailers is necessary in our article. After reading this review, you will become aware of the technical characteristics of KamAZ-65116.

If necessary, the Kegel semi-trailer can be loaded from the side. However, the load will need to be lifted to a fairly high height - 2,800 mm, which, according to owners, is not always convenient.

The internal height is as much as 3,000 mm. That is why even a very large load can easily fit inside the equipment in question without the need to disassemble it.

Another very important technical characteristic is the back tilt radius. For almost all Kogel semi-trailers this parameter is 2,100 mm.

You can overcome even very large descents and ascents of up to 45 degrees without any fear. Considering the load capacity, this parameter can be called outstanding.

What are they made of?

New Kegel trailers are made from durable and reliable materials. The floor is covered with multi-layer plywood, the thickness of which is 30 mm.

Thanks to this, it is quite difficult to damage even a very fragile load, since the wood used is soft and easily dented. The seams between the individual sheets are sealed, which prevents moisture from entering from the street or, conversely, any liquids leaking out.

The superstructure is made of durable wooden slats arranged in several rows in a row. The length of each rail is approximately 100 mm.

The front wall of the trailer is a frame made of aluminum posts attached to profiles on the frame, also made of aluminum. Fastening is carried out using bolted connections and special rivets.

Along the entire length of the trailer there are specialized rings for securing the load. The fastening itself is carried out using special belts.

The tailgate located at the rear is a rigid aluminum frame on which the awning is stretched. There are three tie bolts, as well as T-type sliding latches.

There is a folding step: if necessary, you can quickly pull it out, which will allow you to climb into the trailer without any difficulty.

The side walls consist of six special folding racks, which are a patented invention of Kogel. The rings located on them for securing the load can simultaneously withstand a load of about two tons.

Some trailers are equipped with four pairs of folding sides , which are aluminum profiles with a number of tracks designed for laying a special cable at customs.

The roof has the following parameters:

  • thickness – 0.72 mm;
  • The cross-sectional diameter of the awning arc is 30 mm.

The arcs themselves are attached using special plastic loops.

There are two bumpers to accommodate lighting devices. They have identical overall dimensions:

  • length – 160 mm;
  • thickness – 65 mm;
  • height – 85 mm.

The awning itself is made of PVC. Its density is about 680 g/m2. There is a special vertical type locking belt.

Electrical equipment

The equipment in question is equipped with fairly reliable electrical equipment.

Important! Connection to the electrical wiring of the truck-tractor is carried out through special pole sockets (depending on the modification and model): 2×7 1×ISO1185/1X ISO, 24VN or 1×15 ISO, 12098.

All modern models and modifications are equipped with:

  • a mechanism for attaching light-emitting devices;
  • lighting fixtures made of durable technical plastic;
  • lamps illuminating the state license plate;
  • bright side lights;
  • a pair of combination lights.

All this is usually more than enough to ensure comfortable and safe travel on the road.

Air suspension and braking system

One of the most important advantages of the technology in question is the presence of a device called EBS 2S/2M. It is equipped with auxiliary systems:

  • ABS,
  • A.L.B.

Their presence allows the driver, even with a full load, to feel as comfortable and confident on the road as possible.

If necessary, you can diagnose this equipment through a special connector (ISO 7638).

In addition to hydraulic ones, the design includes a parking brake and a spring-driven one.

Many models come with special anti-recoil mechanisms. They can be used instead of a parking or regular brake. They can also duplicate brake systems if the loaded trailer is on a steep slope and there is a possibility that the disc brakes simply cannot withstand an excessively heavy load.

These mechanisms are located on the semi-trailer frame in special steel pockets.

The pneumatic system consists of steel pipes in which special oil is under pressure.

There are two valves: one is necessary to raise the platform, the second is necessary to lower it. The system is extremely reliable, its operation is completely safe and complies with the EN-286-2 standard.

Chassis

The chassis of semi-trailers usually consists of the following main parts:

  • six wheels;
  • rubber tires 385/65 R 22.5;
  • 120 mm steel wheels designed for use with disc brakes. Kogel semi-trailers are equipped with exactly this.

From the factory, rubber from a reliable and well-established manufacturer - Continental - is supplied as a standard tire.

Subject to operating conditions, it usually lasts for a very long period of time.

Also, most models from Kogel are equipped with special boxes designed to store two wheels as spare ones.

This allows you to be sure that even if a screw or nail punctures the tire on the road, with the help of a spare tire the driver will be able to get to the nearest tire service station.

Not far from the spare wheel container there is a hermetically sealed box designed for storing tools and other things needed for the trip.

Its overall dimensions are quite large, even taking into account the specifics of the equipment on which it is located.

Information and analytical publication TECHNOmagazine

At the beginning of July, when there was a break in the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Kögel

arranged a “friendly match” with Humbaur at the Allianz Arena. Journalists from leading European publications about trucks and commercial transport attended as spectators.

At the press conference, company leaders summed up the interim results of work for the first half of 2022, shared plans for the future and presented to the audience the new Kögel semi-trailers and Humbaur vans.

Thomas Heckel, Managing Director of Sales, Purchasing and Marketing at Kögel Trailer, noted the favorable market situation around the world, which allows the company to actively modernize its production. At the beginning of this year, Kögel launched a robotic welding line, and in the second quarter of 2022, a robotic impact wrench began operating at the Burtenbach plant.

Despite the large investment program, Kögel and Humbaur have a very low debt load - it amounts to less than 1% of the companies' turnover of 580 million euros. This allows businesses to face the future with confidence.

In terms of sales, orders for Kögel semi-trailers in the first half of 2022 increased by more than 48 percent compared to the same period last year. The main driver of growth was Eastern Europe, where orders increased by almost 63%. Moreover, the growth leaders are the Czech Republic, Russia and the Balkan countries. In total, from January to June this year, Kögel managed to receive orders for 12,087 trailers. At the same time, the company has not yet adjusted its sales plans and adheres to the goal of selling 18,000 trailers for the entire year.

It is worth noting that Kögel has high hopes for our market and strives to become closer to clients from Russia. Thus, to reduce the cost of semi-trailers, the company imports them disassembled and assembles them at its site in Domodedovo. At the same time, it purchases some components from Russian suppliers. Of course, frames, axles, sandwich panels for refrigerators and some other components are imported from Germany. But Kögel plans to localize the production of trailers in Russia as much as possible. “Semi-trailers made in Russia are a reality. We are not planning, we are already assembling trailers in Russia,” notes Milan Strmecki, CEO of Kogel Trailer Ru.

During the first half of the year, 90 Cargo semi-trailers were assembled in Domodedovo, and by the end of the year another 800 units are planned to be produced. Currently, localization is about 38%, but the company hopes to exceed the 50 percent mark. However, the complexity of this process lies in the fact that in addition to standard product certification, components and spare parts must undergo internal certification at the Burtenbach plant. This is necessary so that Kögel can continue to provide a 12-month warranty on all components of the supplied products.
