“City News” continues its joint “road” project with the municipal specialized motor transport enterprise (SATP). In today's issue we will talk about the grader. It is this car that is the first after (and sometimes during) a snowfall to take to the winter roads and clear the roadway of the dirty white mass. Each snowflake individually is a miracle of nature, but when such crystals collect hundreds of cubic meters, they become a problem that needs to be solved as quickly as possible.
Purpose
A motor grader, depending on the attachment, can be used to perform various types of work. It can be:
- Construction and repair work on roads of all categories.
- Land reclamation and irrigation works.
- Embankment equipment.
- Loosening and development of soil rocks of classes 1-4.
- Layout of terrain for a given profile.
- Municipal construction.
- Snow removal works.
The technical characteristics of the DZ 98 allow the specified work to be performed.

Classification of motor graders
By wheel type:
- On metal wheels. Such models will cost less, they are simpler and do not require expensive maintenance. A significant disadvantage of such graders is their low speed - 5-6 km/h.
- On pneumatic wheels. This type of grader is more expensive, and maintenance is somewhat more difficult, but they are more powerful and can move under their own power at speeds of up to 30 km/h.
By weight and power of the motor grader:
- Lungs. The mass of such machines is 9-12 tons, and the power is 75-90 horsepower. They are used primarily for planning, marking, and patrolling;
- Average. Weight 13-15 tons, power 120-150 hp. Such models are used mainly for reconstruction, road profiling, as well as mixing materials on site;
- Heavy. The weight of motor graders of this type is 19-20 tons, the power is 250-300 hp. The main scope of application is the construction of asphalt and earthen roads.
By transmission type:
- With manual transmission. This type of transmission provides for stepwise and manual changes in the speed of the vehicle;
- With hydromechanical transmission. Automatic and smooth regulation of vehicle speed.
By type of final drives:
- Final drive (for light and medium type motor graders);
- Separate drive axles (heavy vehicles are equipped with them).
Based on the type of frame, motor graders are divided into:
- Models with a rigid frame are more durable, but less maneuverable;
- Models with an articulated frame - such machines are more maneuverable and can perform a wide range of work.
Device
The main elements of the DZ 98 grader are the transmission, chassis, control cabin and attachments. The transmission is used to transmit power to the grader wheels and to drive hydraulic pumps for attachments. It includes: 1. Gearbox. 2. Clutch basket. 3. Gearboxes of the hydraulic pump and parking brake; 4. Cardan transmissions to axles. The chassis consists of three drive axles with a 3x3x1 wheel arrangement. The front axle is controlled by the operator from the cab and can be turned on or off if necessary.

Types of graders
On running equipment. This criterion divides the equipment into a conventional grader and a motor grader, and also determines their maneuverability and maneuverability. Based on this parameter, the following types of machines are distinguished:
- trailed and semi-trailed – compact graders fixed to the frame of a tractor or other equipment;
- self-propelled – motor graders on a wheeled chassis, capable of moving under their own power due to the wheelbase.
In terms of performance. This parameter is determined by the total weight, engine power, and the dimensions of the blade. According to it, motor graders are divided into the following classes:
- lightweight - such graders are equipped with blades 2500–3000 mm long. The lightweight motor grader has an engine with a power of up to 80 kW and a weight of no more than 9 tons;
- medium - these graders weigh around 13 tons, are equipped with power units up to 130 kW and dumps with a length of 3000–3500 mm;
- heavy – this type of grader is heavy (up to 19 tons). Heavy motor graders have an engine power of up to 185 kW and a blade size of 3500–4500 mm;
- super-heavy - such a grader has maximum weight, power and size of the working body.
On the management of the working body. The type of mechanism determines the maneuverability of the blade when moving in different planes. The following drives can be installed on the grader and motor grader:
- mechanical – gearbox;
- hydraulic – hydraulic cylinders;
- combined – gear-hydraulic or pneumoelectric.
Cabin
It has a high glass area, which increases the driver-operator's visibility. Ergonomics and comfort are ensured by an adjustable steering column and a comfortable seat. The option of additional installation of an air conditioner is possible. The cab is equipped with a ROPS rollover protection system and a FOPS operator protection system. The cabin can, as a separate module, be quickly mounted or dismantled. To increase operator comfort and work productivity, additional equipment is installed. It includes: 1. An automatic terrain leveling system, which allows you to level the working area as accurately as possible. 2. A system for suppressing vibrations of the blade when it enters the ground. 3. Installation of servo control for all motor grader systems. 4. Availability of heating systems for rear-view mirrors, operator's seat, and fuel system cleaning filter. This is important when working in cold climates.

Grader (motor grader), types, types, classes, its working equipment, application and characteristics.
Grader is a trailed or self-propelled wheeled machine with an adjustable blade located between the front and rear wheels that cuts, moves and distributes material, usually for grading purposes.

What does it come with?
Attachments have been developed for the motor grader , which allows you to perform work of varying degrees of complexity. It is installed on the head of the main frame and includes:
- equipment for loosening soils and road surfaces;
- equipment for laying tracks;
- equipment for bulldozer work;
- equipment for snow removal;
- picker operator
Equipment for laying tracks includes a blade and two wings, which are attached to it on hinges. They are raised and lowered using hydraulic cylinders. Depending on the degree of exit of the cylinder rod, the wings are in a track-laying or bulldozer state. They can have a right or left grader position. Equipment for loosening soils includes a ripper with a suspension. The ripper has a beam shape with five teeth. A blade is used for snow removal work. Cone-shaped makes it possible to move snow to one side at low speed. When driving speed increases, the snow is thrown to the side up to 20 meters, which guarantees the absence of snow accumulations along the road. Bulldozer equipment is used to move rocks and fill ditches. It includes a blade, push frame suspension and hydraulic cylinders. To work with frozen soil and category 3-4 soils, they are loosened. The picker is used for crushing category 4 soils, destroying waste road surfaces and frozen soil.

Benefits and reviews
The popularity of the DZ98 grader lies in its numerous advantages. These include: 1. The ability to use various attachments. 2. Ability to perform work on soils of varying densities. 3. High level of overcoming obstacles. 4. Easy to operate. 5. Ability to adjust blade width and depth of depth. 6. Reliability of units and mechanisms. 7. Easy to maintain and repair. 8. Long period of operation. 9. Replaceable attachments for performing various construction works. 10. Possibility of using a motor grader at temperatures from minus 50 to plus 50 degrees. Numerous reviews indicate that after many years, the DZ 98 grader remains one of the most popular in its class. One significant drawback remains constant among the reviews. This is a slight gas pollution in the cabin during operation. It exists on old models of technology. Modern machines are equipped with improved gas exhaust devices, and ventilation and air conditioning systems are installed in the cabins.

American and Japanese manufacturers are significantly ahead of domestic ones, but they are also much more expensive. Chinese analogues are also appearing on our markets, the most famous being XCMG, LongGong CDM, Changlin, Shantui Construction Machinery and others. In terms of cost, they are comparable to motor graders produced at the Chelyabinsk Road Construction Machinery Plant or the Bryansk Arsenal, but they are superior in functionality to Russian equipment.
