I read the reviews and decided to write. I have owned this unit for 4 years. Before that there were VAZ-21011, 2106, 2107, GAZelle - 3302, 2705, UAZ loaf, Volga 31029.

In 2004 I bought it at the Barguzin showroom, engine 406 carbs, I didn’t dare take the injector, there were bad reviews about reliability, mileage 10 km, gray metallic, low roof, 6+1, price 275 thousand rubles. I took it as a family car. Already in the cabin, the first defect was discovered: the middle door did not close. My brother and I fixed the lock ourselves, dismantled the upholstery of all the doors, filled everything with Movil, additionally anti-corrosive, lubricant, fasteners, well, as usual for our cars. I installed music from the TV, an alarm with a pager, a rear view camera, etc.

First impressions are enthusiastic, the sound of the engine is almost inaudible, not like the Volga with 402 engines, the steering wheel is light, it is still power steering, the interior is large with a table, the seats are comfortable with armrests, you don’t get tired while driving, etc. I constantly traveled 1,700 km south with my family, almost always in one fell swoop. The seating position is very comfortable and your legs don’t get tired. But soon the delight disappeared, and constant breakdowns began. The weakest point is the power steering. The hoses are constantly breaking, once the car almost burned out, fortunately it was standing at a traffic light, the hose burst and oil splashed onto the manifold and caught fire, they quickly put it out. I had to buy a short belt, and in such cases I just put on a short belt without a steering wheel and drove home. The reason for this is the Gur pump. Our pumps do not have a bypass valve, so in extreme steering positions the pressure increases to such an extent that the weakest point tears, and this is the hose. Foreign cars do not have such problems; they have normal pumps. Doesn't the factory know about this problem? Or they don’t want to do anything, they’ll buy it anyway. It's a shame for our auto industry.

The steering wheel constantly jams, the reason is the pendulum, the needle bearing is falling apart. The radiator is plastic, antifreeze was constantly leaking. I went to Yuzhport, bought a new three-row one, the heater pump was also plastic, it was constantly dripping, after a lot of trouble with it, I turned it off completely and connected the hoses directly. The mirrors are like on a gazelle, old style, large blind spots, changed, installed heated ones. The generator is rubbish, very poor charging when the headlights are on, I installed a second regulator from the Volga parallel to the tablet, the effect is excellent. More problems with a weak battery due to undercharging. did not have. Poor tension roller design. Due to the play of the roller holder, it warps and the belt slides onto the side of the roller and begins to separate into ribbons. I’m not even talking about jamming of the roller bearing, so I always keep a spare roller, fortunately it’s inexpensive, it’s helped me out many times, otherwise I would have been left on the road. Therefore, you should always keep a belt, roller and hose in stock.

The suspension is very stiff. I talked to specialists, they say that this is due to gas shock absorbers. Before this I had a Gazelle, its front end is much softer, although there are no springs. Conventional shock absorbers are not suitable, I thought about redoing them, then I decided not to touch them. Changed shock absorbers, ball joints, and rods. The suspension became softer, but after a month everything became the same. Didn't bother anymore. The low beam is very weak, you can’t see anything on the highway at night. The high beam is excellent, but you won’t be able to travel with it for long; oncoming people immediately blink. The headlights are a new type (plastic), you can’t install a 90-watt lamp, everything will melt, I had to come to terms with it. Ventilation is very poor and it is very hot in summer. In the heat there was a smell of gasoline in the cabin. I checked everything, there are no leaks anywhere, there is a smell. Then I found out that the factory mastic, where the composition is like that, starts to smell like that in hot weather. They said it would smell for two years, but in the fourth year it still smelled, although it was much weaker.

There was one problem with the engine: the mileage was 35,000 km, and it rattled in front of the house. I took it to 31 auto plants, they disassembled the entire engine, everything was in perfect condition, put it back together - it works perfectly. So no one understood anything, what was the reason for the roar, they ended up with 25 pieces. After this there were no problems, which cannot be said about the carburetor. You need to constantly wash and adjust. The dynamics are acceptable, but overtaking trucks is difficult. I used semi-synthetic oil, the consumption is negligible. I read in reviews about the speed of 150-170 km, clearly too much. The cruising speed is 120, at 140 the car rocks so much that you immediately take your foot off the gas pedal. Now I have a Sobol 2752 with a 405 engine, I don’t see much difference in dynamics, although it has 140 horses. It eats a lot of oil. I looked through the forums, many have this problem with 405 doors. I removed the valve cover and did additional sealing as described on the forums. Consumption has dropped, but is still high compared to 406dv. Simply due to a poor design, oil is sucked into the intake manifold and escapes through the pipe. Two years later I installed LPG, fuel costs immediately dropped, and acceleration dynamics dropped a little. Consumption in Moscow: gasoline 12-18 liters, gas 14-20 liters, highly dependent on traffic jams, on the highway 9.5-14 and 11-15 depending on speed. Having driven 100 thousand. I changed all the chains and sprockets, although they said that it was still possible to drive, but I decided not to risk it.

It was a pity to sell, because I bought the car from scratch and did everything myself. After the first maintenance I didn’t go to the service again, it was a complete rip-off, you know what the quality of the work is. I just needed a Sable 2752 for work, it’s more convenient to load goods. I wanted to take a Dodge Caravan, but I didn’t take the risk, I thought that it wouldn’t survive on our roads with a load, which I really regret now. I talked to Dodge drivers, the reviews are good, there are no special problems. I took Sobol 2752, 7 seats, engine 405, but the problems are the same: Steering wheel jams, hoses are flying, all fluids are leaking, etc., the list can be endless. Nothing changes at the factory.

I agree with many, the idea is good, but everything was done wrong. Everything rattles, creaks, there are constant crickets, the metal quickly begins to rot, especially the hood - this is the weak point of all cars of the Gazelle-Sobol family. The spare parts are rubbish, there is no guarantee after replacement, you don’t know how long it will last, one day or one year, and the most important thing is that you always have to do something, even if it’s just small things, it still gets you. Therefore, I consider it a mistake to buy Barguzin for 600 pieces. It’s better to take a Hyundai Grand Starex or a Dodge Grand Caravan/Chrysler Town Country; since 2005, their seats have been retracted into the floor, which is very convenient for both work and family. It may be used, but the comfort is completely different.

This is my first review, so forgive me for some confusion.

The GAZ-2217 model has been in serial production at the Gorky Automobile Plant since the spring of 1999. A number of cars were also produced in an all-wheel drive version - the Sobol Barguzin minivan with a 4 × 4 wheel arrangement, modification of the GAZ-22177.
