The procedure for adjusting the control of the YaMZ-239 gearbox of Maz-5516, Maz-5440, 64229, Maz-54323, 54329 vehicles is as follows:

— set lever 2 to neutral position;

— by longitudinally moving the plate 16 with the bolts 17 released, set the angle a of the lever 1;

— by changing the length of rod 3, set the angle.

If the travel of the plate 16 or the adjustment range of the rod 3 is insufficient, loosen the bolts 5, move or rotate the rod 6 relative to the shank 4, tighten the bolts 5 and repeat the adjustment of angles a, b, as indicated above.

Angle a should be 80°, angle b should be 90°.

Adjust the locking device of the telescopic elements of the YaMZ-239 gearbox of Maz-5516, Maz-5440, 64229, Maz-54323, 54329 vehicles with the cab raised as follows:

— unpin pin 8 and disconnect rod 6 from fork 9 of the gearbox drive lever;

— loosen locknut 13 and unscrew shank 14 until the thread stops;

— push the internal rod 6 until the protrusions of the earring 12 stop into the grooves of the tip 15;

— holding the mechanism in a compressed state, screw in the shank until the mechanism is locked by bushing K) under the influence of spring 11:

— tighten locknut 13, check the smooth operation of the locking mechanism. When the mechanism is locked, axial and angular play should be minimal.

In the unlocked position, bushing 10 is shifted to the left. The movement of the extension rod must be smooth, without jamming, and the locking mechanism must ensure clear fixation of the extension rod in its original position.

When connecting rod 6 to fork 9, the hole in the shackle for pin 8 should be located above the longitudinal axis of rod 6. Adjust the drive when the engine is not running.

When the cabin is raised, oil under pressure from the cabin lift pump is supplied through hose 7 to the cylinder of the locking device and mechanism 6 is unlocked.

After lowering the cab, to securely fix the telescopic mechanism 6 in the locked position, it is necessary to move the gear shift lever 1 forward along the vehicle in a movement similar to engaging a gear. In this case, the mechanism is blocked and is then ready for work.

It is impossible to imagine a single construction site in Russia without the MAZ-5551 dump truck. This hereditary “handyman” has been successfully transporting goods for a long time. The ability to drive is not only about turning the steering wheel when maneuvering and alternating presses on the accelerator and brake pedals, it is also about the correct choice of gear engagement position in the transmission shift box.
Of course, CVTs and other types of automatic and semi-automatic gearboxes were developed a long time ago, where the variability of torque is selected by the unit independently, following the preset settings. But they have some limited “choice”, and they are rarely found on SUVs and trucks. Why, and why are they needed at all? We answer... How does the switch happen?

Different coverage or variations in the absence of it, changes in the topography along the “up-down” vector, movement empty, with an average or full load - each of the proposed cases requires a specific torsion speed of the moving wheels and the force with which all this occurs. An internal combustion engine has certain limits in terms of the numerical expression of frequency and torque; to expand it and gain the ability to be stable in several positions, a gearbox is called upon.


At the same time, automatic transmissions also have clearly defined reactions, and the operation of a heavy truck is often associated with the ability to quickly, sometimes even unexpectedly vary the speed and torque of the drive shafts. Especially if you have to drive along a road whose condition is far from ideal. And since the manual transmission is controlled remotely, using a switch lever, it must know which positions correspond to which torque and speed.

Of course, it would be possible to do something like a linear displacement, but in this case the rocker mechanism would resemble the dimensions of a thick rocker arm, and it is possible that the cabin would become a bit cramped. And this is even with a standard 4- or 5-speed transmission, and we won’t even talk about 9, 12 and 16-speed transmissions. Therefore, designers have to “cram” all the possibilities into a complex, but compact drawing diagram. And it is necessary to remember it because the discrepancy between the selected gear and range means not only problems with overcoming the route, but the risk of increased wear of parts, especially if the “incorrectness” is systematic.

HOW TO SWITCH

The standard version of the control circuit, for example, is present on the 500th MAZ. For those who are able to forget in what order everything happens, a drawing is printed on the handles of the main working tool for changing the speed and transmission. It looks like this:

  1. — the handle freely walking along the horizontal average vector is “neutral”;
  2. - left-up - first, -down - reverse;
  3. - center-down - second, -up - third;
  4. - to the right - up - fourth, - down - fifth.

In a gearbox with multiplier dividers, the pattern either remains and the upper and lower ranges overlap when the additional box is first initiated, or the pattern itself becomes more complicated, receiving a couple of additional “branches.”

The transmission of “commands” from the handle-lever is transmitted via a transverse roller to the industrial mechanism, and from there through the main rod to the industrial lever. Then a special axial roller “turns on” and sets the gearbox shift lever itself in motion.

For such a “workhorse” as the MAZ-500 and its modifications, due to the loads experienced, problems even with the correct change of gear speed are not uncommon. There are plenty of possible malfunctions due to which the MAZ gearbox circuit does not work as intended, but three options are the most common.

1. The first and rear ones do not “catch” when the others are functioning normally.

• To eliminate such a problem, you need to mark the position of the rod to its tip, loosen the tightening bolts and turn the tip clockwise by about 4-5 degrees (about 1 mm between the marks). Then the bolts are tightened and functionality is checked. If the problem persists further, then we repeat the operation, that is, we move the tip a little more.

2. When the others are working, the 4th and 5th do not work.

• We do the same as in the previous case, but this time the tip must be turned counterclockwise.

3. The system itself works fine, but switching is made difficult by the incorrect position of the lever (for example, the lever rests against the panel).

• Set neutral and disconnect the rod end from the shift mechanism earring. We make sure that the mechanism lever is also in a neutral position - the fork is located vertically, and when angularly rocked, resistance to rotation is felt. If everything is so, then tighten the locking screw on the intermediate mechanism until it stops, thereby “tightly” fixing the intermediate roller. We loosen the coupling bolts and adjust the length of the rod so that the stopper pin easily passes through the holes of the earring and the tip. We connect them and tighten the coupling bolts. After this, unscrew the locking screw of the industrial mechanism five turns and lock it with a nut.

By the way, after partial disassembly of the drive, its adjustment is carried out according to the same principle.

Change of oil

In order to change the oil in a MAZ gearbox, you must:

  1. Drive about 5-10 km by vehicle to warm up the old oil in the box. At elevated temperatures it becomes liquid and is easy to drain.
  2. 10-15 minutes after stopping the engine, place the vehicle on a lift or inspection pit.
  3. Remove the crankcase protective cover.
  4. Unscrew the plug and check the volume of oil fluid in the manual transmission.
  5. Check the gasket for wear and, if necessary, replace it with a new one.
  6. Replace worn filter elements.
  7. Open the drain hole and drain the oil into a prepared container.
  8. Fill with new oil fluid.
  9. Screw on the drain cap.
  10. Reinstall the clutch protective cover.
  11. Start the engine and check the oil level at various speeds.

The MAZ gearbox is equipped with five ranges and is combined with a YaMZ-236 diesel engine. It has an acceleration range and remote control. There are also several other modifications of this unit. To activate the second and third speeds, the synchronizer is activated. Let's look at the structure of this car unit and its features.

Essential elements

The MAZ gearbox includes a primary shaft with a gear mounted on a crankcase with ball-type bearings. In addition, there is an intermediate shaft. From the front it looks like a device on a cylindrical roller bearing, and from the back it looks like a ball analogue. The rear element compartment is protected by a cast iron cover, the first and reverse gears are cut directly onto the shaft, and the remaining ranges and power take-off are carried out through keyed drive gears.

The MAZ gearbox with range control is equipped with an intermediate shaft drive gear with a damper damper. This makes it possible to reduce vibrations transformed from the power unit to the transmission box. In addition, this solution makes it possible to reduce the noise of the gear at idle speed. The need to install a damper is due to the insufficient uniformity of operation of the YaMZ-236 type motor.

The gear tooth is made separately from the hub. It is disconnected using six cylindrical springs. Residual vibrations are damped by deformation of the spring elements and friction in the damper unit.

Device

An axle with a pair of roller bearings and a reverse gear is installed on the side between the intermediate and secondary shaft. The front gear element is aggregated with the analogue of the first speed using an additional shaft, and the rear gear is engaged by activating the reverse gear.

On a MAZ semi-trailer, the front part of the secondary shaft is mounted on a roller bearing, and the rear element is installed in a ball bearing bath. On the protruding part there is a speedometer drive gear; at the back, the part is protected by a cover in which the oil seal and speedometer drive are located. A mechanism for shifting first and reverse gears is installed on the splined rear part of the shaft. It is worth noting that this gear is equipped with straight teeth.

Peculiarities

A gear sliding structure is freely installed on the secondary shaft of the MAZ gearbox on steel bearings. This includes adjusting the second, third and fifth speeds. The elements are protected from longitudinal displacement by means of oblique teeth and thrust rings. Three gears have constant mesh with the intermediate shaft. The gears are made with a conical base and an internal toothed surface.

The synchronizers are located between the gear elements of the second and third speeds. They ensure silent switching of gears. The synchronizer itself consists of a coupling, which is located on the splines of the rear hub, as well as a housing with bronze o-rings. The frame is aggregated with the coupling using ball-type clamps. The coupling is equipped with gear rims. Her fingers pass through special sockets; rings with pins and a switch fork are attached to them on the outside.

When this unit operates, the housing ring of the housing is pressed against the cone by the gears. In this regard, the friction between the contacting surfaces causes rotation and installation of the cavity on the slot with the coupling pin, and the element is blocked by the housing.

After the effect of friction occurs between the speed cones and the gear with the clutch, the load forces are leveled and the locking device releases the clutch from the base of the synchronizer. Then the gear ring of the assembly engages with the internal teeth of the mechanism, which entails the inclusion of one or another gear.

Functional scheme

There are three adjusting rods in the crankcase cover sockets. Their forks are combined with a control carriage for first and reverse gears, as well as a pair of clutch synchronizers. The switches are equipped with ball detents and locks.

The MAZ gearbox diagram presented below confirms that the most loaded bearings receive lubricant under the created operating pressure. Oil flows from the bath through a detachable filter element. It is equipped with a magnet that allows fluid to flow through the suction of the gear pump. This unit is driven by the leading edge of the intermediate shaft. Next, the mixture is pumped through a groove in the crankcase and enters through the channel of the primary and secondary shafts into the gear bearings of the mechanism. The remaining elements are lubricated by splashing the incoming oil.

Oil pump

The MAZ-4370 gearbox is equipped with an oil pump, which has a ball valve that serves to limit the oil pressure in the transmission system. The crankcase of the unit is equipped with an internal partition, which causes the release of used oil through two holes blocked by special plugs.

Gear control is carried out via a lever located in the cab. The operating principle of the circuit is to mechanically switch a remote drive located above the power unit. In the bracket of the transmission unit crankcase cover there is a pair of support rollers that serve to change speeds using grooves and necks located on the adjusting rods.

In the middle position, the lever is located with a pin with a lock and a spring upward. At this time, the lower analogue of the fuse is activated along with the spring.
