The engines of this series are designed according to the principle of aggregation, in other words, engines with different power characteristics are built according to the same design principle using, if possible, identical units. The main common feature is replaceable wet cylinder liners and individual cylinder heads.

The 4-valve cylinder head is a separate diametrically opposed cylinder head with cast-in swirl intake and exhaust ports, seated intake and exhaust valve seat rings, and press-fit valve guides.

The cylinder head is secured with six high-strength Torx flange bolts. The coolant is directed through the cylinder head from the exhaust side to the intake side in a cross flow.

Cast guide ribs ensure optimal coolant flow. The bridge between the exhaust valves is cooled by a cast channel.

Each cylinder head has two intake valves (9) and two exhaust valves (8) in a suspended structure.

All valves are driven by a carbide pushrod, push rods and a forged rocker arm (10).

The transmission of force from the rocker arm to the intake/exhaust valves is via a flared base adjusting screw (12) and a valve rod (13) passing through the ends of the valve stem.

The exhaust bridge contains an EVB engine brake mechanism. The rocker arms rest on the rocker arm axles, which are pressed into the rocker arm support housing.

The rocker arm support housing (11) is attached together with the cylinder head to the crankcase using a threaded connection.

The cylinder block and crankcase are cast as one piece. Light alloy pistons have two compression rings and one oil control ring.

The crankshaft is a forged part and is equipped with seven support bearings.

For each piston/connecting rod, counterweights are installed on the crankshaft. The connecting rods are made according to the principle of oblique division.

In the engine timing mechanism housing, on the flywheel side, the rotational movement of the crankshaft is transmitted to the oil pump and camshaft through a gear located on the crankshaft.
